A late bloomer in the horse/stud/ game, INTO MISCHIEF ... heard Acacia and Andy talking about IM on their NYRA show. Very interesting, never thought about horses in that sense before - like a ballplayer coming into his own @ 30 instead of 20. Am I right about this? Any other info/corrections concerning IM I'd gladly accept.
I agree, his knees look absolutely horrible in this video. He always had a slight problem there when he was young, but this is a massive issue now. If you pause at 1:44, you gotta wonder how he's still standing. I was also bewildered about how flat and wide his hooves look from the front. Surely these horses get good farriers? Lord Nelson seems to have a really good hoof care, he's walking quite well considering how bad his shape was.
Weirdly being over at the knee, while a fault, shows up in a lot of fast horses. Go look up old photos of Champion sire St. Simon. He was the same way.
@@thorne1239 Actually, I've kind of noticed that. I know from having owned horses that sometimes, they will stop walking midstride and just leave their leg bent like that momentarily. Most of my time has been around Saddlebreds, and I remember that one Saddlebred show trainer told me that pigeon-toedness can be not only corrected with excellent shoeing but enhanced into greater leg action than if the horse had not been pigeon-toed. Still, Saddlebred breeders aren't about to start breeding for that forefoot/foreleg structure fault.
Into Mischief looks like his feet need attention here! Does remind me of Northern Dancer! What's wrong with Lord Nelson's front feet? Why is he wearing padded shoes?
