I have actually been thinking about this for close to 2 years since I started my current job. I knew since my polytechnic (high school) days that I am not suited for the corporate world. After watching this, ir serves as a reminder for me to start looking out for agency to help me in my first step. Thanks for making this video!

Hi Annette and Xenia, thanks for sharing your thoughts on quitting your job to freelance!! I just quit my job today to do the same and actually have the same thoughts as you guys. Nice to know that we share the same fears when quitting

Great video, super relatable and inspiring. Xenia is so naturally charming on camera. Annette too but that goes without saying. Once you hit bottom and stay there for a while, you transform, part of the process. True potential does not come from comfort zones amirite.jpg
Man, its stuff like this that makes ALL those other entrepreneurial "gurus" look like grifters. This is solid stuff.

Great video @Annette as someone who used to work as a freelancer and is now an agency owner, runway is a very feasible and fiscally responsible target to work towards. Your runway is the time period of having zero money coming in and you STILL being able to run your business. A safe goal is to target having a runway of 6 months. This sets you up to take more risks, more passion projects and upskill yourself.

Thankyou so much for creating this content, enjoyed watching it so much! 😁This is so relatable however my experience was different because I wasn't treated with respect and dignity in my previous job, which in turn made me muster my courage and venture the freelancer route :-) Although there are certainly tough times as a freelancer and it does feel alone sometimes, but I've no regrets because I've emerged to be a stronger and matured person. And it's a wonderful feeling knowing that I've picked myself up after hitting the rock bottom. So thankyou for creating this video!!🥰

im sorry to hear that, it's never easy dealing with situations where you're disrespected (i've personally encountered some nasty people too) but glad to know that freelancing has helped you find a new path and that you've emerged stronger since! :)

    Wow!
    Wow!
    Wow!
Actually i remember Xenia saying in the htht show with alastair pang and john lim on the overthink youtube channel that in the US sometimes actors would just take up regular jobs like waitering at restaurant during off peak seasons in their acting career.
It is also endearing to see an actor working in a restaurant. (Imagine someone saying "I am eating at a restaurant where Rowan Atkinson worked during his summer holidays!")
I also love how you guys advocate for the less sexy approach of building up your portfolio and pursuing your craft part time before becoming a full time freelancer.
Less sexy but more responsible. Important when the stakes are high.
It is interesting also that Xenia mentions building up your team with interns.
Mongabong does it! And her interns love her!
Interns are like a pot of gold that the new age has to offer.
The new age where tertiary institutes are making industrial attachments compulsory.
Interns are full of energy and aliveness, yet not expecting much in return.
That said, Xenia, as the economy is opening up, feel free to go work in a restaurant.
Many restaurants are willing to offer part time positions that do not demand your entire day. Maybe 5pm to 10pm etc.
You can find new ways to wipe tables, new ways to smile, new ways to walk, new ways to greet people...
"New" not necessarily in the sense of being more efficient or more effective.
But new in the sense of being more graceful, more beautiful, more entertaining.
Because, after all, customers may be watching you.
I mean isnt that very similar to what you do in acting?

Being from Germany, I don’t quite understand the terms. Do you call being an independent actor freelancer, or did Xenia transition/extend from being an actress to doing freelance work such as digital marketing? Thank you for the fun video!

    • @AnnetteLeeMusic
      @AnnetteLeeMusic  2 роки тому +7

hallo!! i think here in singapore, independent actors are def freelancers since they dont belong to an agency, though we'd also consider actors signed to most talent agencies freelancers too, since there isn't a full-time monthly pay and job supply isn't fixed.
There is only 1 agency that is an exception, which is that of Singapore's main broadcasting network (Mediacorp) where actors receive a salary every month and have a steady supply of acting work - and in some cases even have a quota of working hours to fulfill (this is according to my understanding of actors who work there). That feels closer to a full-time job arrangement.
But as Singapore has a strong consumerist culture, a large majority of actors do digital marketing content on their social media on top of their acting work at the same, which answers your qsn on Xenia's case :)
Hope this helps! I wonder how differently it works in Germany😂

Sorry I am very concerned fan.. Does Xenia by any chance have any conflict with smart local or her current boyfriend Sean? I am really worried... Even personally went down to the old office at towner road and kallang road to ask bout her wellbeing.. Is she really safe ? I am really worried... Even called few of my friends to subscribe her new channel to show true feelings for her... Hope she will feel the same way as I do.. Genuine efforts were made ... Friends said that I am silly but I think it tooks integrity and patience for this true feelings... Hope she will melt to know my true feelings and hard efforts.
