Good to your wife, any kind of cancer is nothing to mess around with. My prayers are with you and your family. Had a friend that had skin cancer next to his eye 👁️ didn’t get it taken care of right away. It got into his lymph system and he passed away from it. Always I joy your posters. May you post many more, GOD bless you and your family.
So glad you got that skin cancer cell taken care of Nathan. You’re too important to those you love and who love you doubly right back. Your wife, Bruno, and all of your loyal subscribers are so thankful that it is not a melanoma. May God continue to heal you and bless you, your wife, and Bruno.
Nathan, Glad you will be sticking around for years to come. You are one of my most favorite Sawyers. Son, You got skills! Stay healthy Nathan and good luck.
It took me 2 years to set up my sawdust collection system in my shop. It is well worth the time saved in shoveling wood shavings. Take care of yourself! Your family needs you.
Thank you for sharing and telling us about your experience with skin cancer. I am one of the lucky, or maybe I should say unlucky ones who has all three of the skin cancers. Basil cell, squamous cell, and melanoma (had that 3 times). The treatment you had is called MOHS. Check it the first time, do a biopsy, then go back in and have more removed, and if they didn't get it all go back in and they take a little more, check it and if they don't get it all take a little more. I have had that done more than a half dozen times. I am on the 6 month routine. Next time you get a spot you are not sure of go get it checked. By the way, I am also 77, almost 78 years old. Keep up the good work.
Nathan - make sure you stay on track with your doctor visits. So much better to be safe than sorry. Glad you decided to hook up the dust collector to the mill. Your shop looks bigger and brighter when there’s little to no dust on the floor. A tidy shop makes for a happy sawyer, right? 😉 Enjoy your weekend, Nathan!
My husband has had maybe 8 Mohs surgeries on his face/ears and several more cancer spots removed that didn’t require Mohs. One melanoma on his back. Your advice to visit dermatologist once a year is a good one.
Wear a respirator mask, also: oak dust can be carcinogenic when breathed in, as can other wood. Dusts. Curing early-detected skin cancer may seem like a stroll in the park compared to lung cancer.

i used to work in a furniture factory. Our dust collector, like saw dust, and sanding goes through the 6 inch round pipe in a thin round sheet metal, depending on how much usage you use of it. The pipes go along the top over your head or under the roof area inside the factory. Our blower was located on the end of the pipe, next inside the wall where it goes outside along another pipe (by blowing) to a silo bin where it starts to go down in the bin. The ideal location is for you, is along the wall where the Logrite sign where the flexible pipe from the Woodmizer to the pipe on the ground then goes in the pipe, up vertically ,then down horizontally towards to the blower. Additionally you can an junction like a Y shape and add another pipe back with the other machinery in the factory, to the blower.
Glad you got that checked out. I'm 53 and have worked outside most of my life. I've had 3 pre-cancerous spots removed. Just life in the outdoors apparently. Again, glad you're doing well.
I worked in a closed in sawmill, for 12 years and quickly became chronic asthmatic, as did 60%of all us employees, even after 23 years since I now have chronic lung disease, so good that your doing this, 😊 11:21
Nathan, sorry to hear about your minor surgery for skin cancer !! I've had the same and at 80+ years of age am following Doctor's orders. Like your new piece of equipment too !!
That’s what got Jimmy Buffett. Markell cell that metastasized into lymphoma. It was a wake up call for me being in construction my whole life. Thanks for sharing with us.
Nathan, when piping your dust collector, use as little flex tubing as you can. The corrugated tubing slows the airflow by quite a bit. For running it outside, use solid piping (PVC or metal HVAC duct) and run it straight up to the ceiling, then 2 45* PVC elbows, tor 2 adjustable metal elbows, to make the 90* turn to the outside. The 45*s or adjustables will make a wide 90* turn and allow the air to flow more smoothly.
Sending you prayers for rapid and complete recovery. That vacuum system really does it's job but a permanent install is better. You got a good wife that got some action.
Hi Nathan! I would recommend a festoon system to help with your hose/duct management. It hangs over head and slides in track which allows it to move with the mill.
The older I get, the smarter I try to be when working around the house. I've had two of those dust collectors for 4 years and they've never missed a beat. Happy you got that issue taken care of early, as waiting is only hurting yourself in the long run.
I think I told you this before, that I watch you on my smart TV so I can’t leave comments unless I go to my iPad. I just wanted to say young man that your health is very important to a poor man like me. We get to see a awesome young man do something that some of us wish we could do, I know that that’s my case. Had a big old tumor removed from my stomach and I had two stents put in my heart. Doing fine but have to watch the things that I am doing. You and others in the woodworking community is what I watch instead of regular tv. Love this technology.
I believe I may have the solution to the hose situation for the dust collector. Use some angle iron, 3/4 inch would do it, I think. Attach a section to a rafter at each end of the travel area of to mill. In those pieces of angle iron you'll need probably 2 holes where they would attach to the rafter and another at the loose end to accept a 1/4" eye bolt shaft. Attach the ends of maybe a 1/4" wire rope or cable to the eyebolt eyes. And then some small pulleys and short cables to the hose, maybe some sort of attachment to keep the hose off the floor. The pulleys will allow the hose to move back and forth as the mill works and the collector will pull the sawdust out and to your pile. Just an idea, I've seen in truck cleanup shops where they do this with their water hoses, it keeps them from snagging and wearing out very quickly. Just an idea Nathan. Get that ol' headbone mo' betta as our Cajun friends would say!!!
I'm Really glad you don't have melanoma! I think your dust collection system will work well and also help protect your lungs. Good on you, for getting onto both these things!
Nathan, I have the same exact dust collector from Harbor Freight on my mill. I use it just as it came with the plastic bag collection. If you just blow the saw dust out side, Some day there will be another mess to clean up!. If you use the plastic bags, every so often just replace the bag. Tie up the end of the one you take off and stack them outside. This leaves you with clean and dry sawdust that you can sell or give away. You are still going to have a small amount of dust and bark on the floor but a battery operated blower cleans that up in just a few seconds.
So glad you were sensible about your medical issue. Your advice to check with a dermatologist is so good, especially for people who lead an outdoor life. Dust collection system looks good. I love to watch how you develop your projects.
Yep, Basil Cell Carcinoma. I had a "mole" grow in the corner of my eye. The surgeon took quite a bit of skin away and stretched the remaining skin back. Took 5 hours of snip, test, snip test, to make sure the skin didn't have cancer cells. Free facelift! It's the least threatening skin cancer but it still needs to be watched. I've been going to dermatologist every 6 months for several years now. Great video. It does look like a spring support from the ceiling for the 6 inch tube is in order.
I have a 2hp grizzly hooked up to my lt50 and eg200 edger. Everything works great. I leave a little sawdust on the concrete floor to act as a buffer for the hose
Nathan, I worked as school crossing guard for almost 25 years before retiring. I wore a plastic pith helmet to keep the sun of my head and ears since I wear my hair short. So wear your hat every time you go outside. It is such an easy thing to do rto prevent skin cancer. I even wear a hat I made to keep in the car because of the sun .
I hope you heal up quickly. Cancer of any kind is no joke and nothing to fool with. I have been on light duty myself for going on 2 weeks. I had a stroke on the 15th. I'm only 57, non-smoker not overweight and get plenty of exercise, but it happened to me. I would encourage others to visit their doctor regularly. I hadn't seen a doctor in many years prior to my stroke. Your dust collection system looks like it will work just fine. I agree that some kind of system is needed to keep the intake hose off of the concrete.
Been going to the dermatologist for over 20 years due to outside AC work on rooftops and living in the sun tan capital of Florida all my life (70 yrs old). Been thru 16 MOHS surgeries on my face and head. Not a lot of fun, but I'm in good hands. Any skin growth that doesn't heal should be checked out. Keep going with the dust collection system, you'll get down pat soon enough
Got to keep an eye on things like cancer - well done getting it sorted. I'd recommend attaching the hose to the ceiling on a long "bungee" (elastic rope) about where the wheel of the saw mill is - just enough so that when the sawmill is at the operator end the hose is low to the ground, as the mill moves back the bungee should lift the hose backwards and upwards out of the way. Just an idea - all the best.
Cancer of any kind is bad. Glad you took care of that. I see a dermatologist once a year myself, seeing that I was a red head he told me that the sun is not my friend.
Glad the doc caught it. The scary skin cancer is the one you don’t notice. Regular trips to the dermatologist! (I confess with all that equipment moving at head height, I expected you to tell us about a mishap.). For your dust system: maybe a floor sweep with its own hose so you can handle (most of) the dust that escapes.
Extractor system will work well with some form of overhead carrier. Possibly a traveler beam carrying skeins of tube. All the best with your cancer treatment. I lost a very good friend a couple of years ago to what started as cancer on his scalp which he ignored. Good to see you're on top of your health care.
Glad you went to the doctor to have it taken care of. Until we moved here I visited a dermatologist once a year for melanoma screening. I have a lot of abnormal moles and get them removed regularly. You are smart to have them checked. Glad it wasn't melanoma. That's not something we want. Have a great day sir
Thanks Nathan an SUPER GLAD you had that taken care of 👍.......l have had the same thing because i fished the Bass Tournament Trail for about 30 years after i got out of the Navy air Corps.....Shoe🇺🇸
Nathan on your collector I have the same collector and I found that If you take that two four connector on the collector off. I put a five to four inch reducer and made a lot better. I would use a five to six inch taper reducer. you can fine those at home depot in the AC metal dept.
well Nathan, good advice on the skin cancer. I have had to have 3 removed over the past 5 years, 1 on the chest & 2 on my face near the Right ear but different places. The 2nd one was removed just before Christmas 2023 but it had gotten into some of the nerves so I had to have Radiation Therapy there. All ok now. I think the dust extraction actually is an essential with any wood working equipment. I have one for my jointer & thicknesser. Good video mate, thanks for sharing. Cheers, don from South Australia
Looks great so far! I mentioned that a long while ago. You know..when you think about it..building a box big enough to attach the hose on so you can slide your bucket into it to remove the sawdust so’s to get rid of it may be a good idea as well. Hope that cancer is gone now, take care and stay safe! God bless!✝️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Having worked with dust collection for years I can tell you that sawdust will eat right through the plastic. Part of our regular maintenance was replacing hoses. I would suggest you make the exhaust metal and 1/2 of the intake metal. It will still eat through the metal but it will take longer.
Nathan, Replace the double four inch fitting with one six inch fitting on the collector unit. This will remove the restriction going from the six inch hose down to the four inch collector.
Hope you feel better soon. I’ve had two BCCs removed from my face and you are so right whilst the surgery hurts it’s well worth getting rid of them. Thanks for your brilliant videos.
YES, glad you went to check it out. I have also had multiple basal cell carcinomas removed ... so far. I go see the doctor every 6 months, so don't be surprised if that once a year changes to more frequently. We fair skinned folks my age (70) never heard of sunblock until we were adults. Regarding the leftover sawdust, how about a mini leaf blower to get it off all the rails and other horizontal surfaces. I use one every day just to make a path on the decking in my back yard from a neighbor's prolific pecan tree with millions of leaves that fall all over my house and deck and yard. I never knew anything about sawmills until I found your channel eons ago.
Hope you continue to heal. I have had the same procedure several times, cut, check, and cut again. Not much you can do but continue to be checked. My doctor aid most of it is from sun exposure 20-40 years ago.
Perhaps some sort of curtain track arrangement up on the rafters could suspend the hose while allowing it to move? Hoping you have a good recovery from the surgery and a good outcome.
Good job on the dust removal setup, saw where one point it bent and probably had blocked for a moment until saw head came back, what about some sort of pentagraph (sic) to hold hose off floor and lessen the bend so it doesn't clog. Glad you are taking care of yourself rest well my friend. John Toccoa GA
I like your new sawdust hose. If I remember right you burn your sawdust rather than sell it. I use a lot of sawdust as bedding for my chickens. It absorbs moisture very well.
Just a comment on the dust collector...I increased the performance by over 50% by adding 2" aluminum extensions to each blade. I riveted them on the blades and then balanced the whole thing before reinstalling it. I use it in my production shop using 5" hoses as it does not restrict the collector so much as the 4" hoses do.
Just for your consideration. If I may recommend that you remove the 4" Y at the inlet of your dust collector a buy a single reducer to 6". The 6" hose isn't helping because you have it restricted to 4". It would also help the efficiency if you would remove the 4" outlet hose and replace it with the factory outlet of 5". If you restrict the air flow on either end you will loose collection ability.

well Nathan, good advice on the skin cancer.
Yup! Came here to say this after I saw that 4” splitter. He should be able to pull that off and directly attach to the inlet.
Hope you feel better soon. I’ve had two BCCs removed from my face and you are so right whilst the surgery hurts it’s well worth getting rid of them. Thanks for your brilliant videos.
Need to wear that nice hat every time you're outside. The vacuum system sucks, that's a good thing.
Thanks for sharing.
Heal my friend - look forward to seeing you when you are ready and able. Rest, let your body do what it is meant to do.
Don't mess around with any cancer. Glad you had it taken care of. My head is a basal cell factory, and I see my dermatologist regularly.
🙏🙏, for your recovery from skin cancer! I 🙏 you heal quickly & completely!
Glad you got it checked! Take care of yourself and get well!
I like your new sawdust hose. If I remember right you burn your sawdust rather than sell it. I use a lot of sawdust as bedding for my chickens. It absorbs moisture very well.
Feel better soon Brother!
Cool dust collection set up…Take Care, REST UP, your video content is always very cool.
Fantastic! Good to hear you got checked and fixed. Blessings on you Nathan! Terrific channel.
get well soon Nathan your set up looks great..
Take care of yourself. We need you to provide excellent videos.
Nathan any video you put out is appreciated heal up , see ya on the next one
Been there on the forehead surgery. I go to the dermatologist yearly. Good luck on the recovery.
Great work Nathan.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just for your consideration. If I may recommend that you remove the 4" Y at the inlet of your dust collector a buy a single reducer to 6". The 6" hose isn't helping because you have it restricted to 4". It would also help the efficiency if you would remove the 4" outlet hose and replace it with the factory outlet of 5". If you restrict the air flow on either end you will loose collection ability.
