Ah, auto-exposure. Bane of videographers everywhere. Is there an exposure lock or manual setting? You could use a piece of raw chicken to get the right EV ☺️
ty for the video and explaining this all your videos do help me understand what does go on behind our games and appreciate them even more I have been around since BG started but makes me sad when they had lay off's what will happen to my beloved games like DA & ME especially starting to lose hope but I do love all your video's ty again for all the info and your year's of experience
Great video as always, very insightful to learn about :p Can't say that I have any experience with regards to game dev, so I can't comment on the subject matter itself I'm afraid, but it definitely sounds reasonable.
Thank you Mark! I hear you on the reduced visibility of the EP. I've noticed it's been hand-in-hand with title inflation and with being pushed from creative responsibilities into focus on resource/ schedule responsibility. In fact, acountability and responsibility over a P&L is not a guaranteed element anymore. Personally I think it's a loss for quality teams and products, evident with the delayed projects and loggerheads on decision making we're seeing.
Thanks for the explanations! With all that said in the video, I don't know whether I'm the EP or not. I think in our studio we're doing the "two people taking the two different roles" and it's explicit that the finance guy (my boss) is on a higher standing than me (the [mostly] creative person). The EP role as explained in this video definitely is a really hard job, and I don't think I want it eventually in my career. Even just de facto doing some of that balancing act has been super stressful, the most stressful thing I've done in game dev.
I would love to hear some specific or pseudo-specific examples of those financial vs. creative decisions. What is a creative direction you might have said no to for financial reasons, or what is a financial decision you had to push back against for the integrity of the game?
No - Repace this level for a minor improvement of quality Yes - Repace this level for a minor improvement of quality It really depends on the detail and risk and impact
I really found your comment at the end the most interesting part, about the EP role possibly transitioning out. Is there any reason you’d think these other roles like PMs or directors would become more public facing? Was/is the EP role maybe too difficult to nail down?Love the video and thanks for doing what you do.
My pasty white skin makes the camera color correct every time I raise my arms...
Haha, I didn't really notice until I read your comment. You need a make up professional to apply some stunning bronzer on them for the camera. 😄

Did you get any qualification in finance or did you have someone to calculate this stuff?
I had some limited training.
There are finance people to do modeling but I built my own models too.
I have a LOT of math in my background
What did you enjoy the most about siding with the finance guys?
a pay check
@@MarkDarrah Good answer lol

No idea. More an observation
Fair enough. Thanks!
Could Creative Director be considered the "creative executive producer"?
Edit: Nvm, you mentioned that in the end of the video.
It happens. Not my preference
