I've just been a crazy fan for Backstreet Boys for no more than 1 month, something inside BSB couldn't be replaced which is their strong bonding with each other along 20+ years and their non-stop hard work they made before becoming famous
Howie is stealing my heart once again.. I was adoring him when he had long hair back then but this.. this is perfect. :)
The one thing boy bands did do is bring back nostalgia for me. I remember I stopped listening to all these boybands, and music as I grew older (I hate being an adult), but then one direction came, and made 'boybands' big again. It reminded me of when I was a teen and obsessed with bsb and westlife etc. Now that I am turning 30, I really do not mind the nostalgia lol

Love BSB and One Direction as well! Oh and I'm not a 12 year old girl so there goes that theory that 1D only appeals to little girls'. I was a teenager when BSB were around so do the math. They are very talented and I actually just saw them in concert in July. They blew my mind and
I like the fact that they are not the typical boy band with the same outfits and choreographed dance steps. Like BSB they are a little different from the rest of the pack. I have much respect for both bands.
Well, whoever stated that theory obviously doesn't know anything about 1D at all. They appeal to women and men actually as well across the whole spectrum of ages. They have since the very beginning. And they are actually a little more edgier than most boy bands, not in looks and personality or anything, they are less edgy in that category. More like edgy in actions. On stage and in interviews, they aren't afraid to be mischievous and show it in front of everyone. They aren't afraid to be a little naughty for the whole world to see. Most boy bands were always discouraged from that. Sure most boy bands look edgy with their dress and perceived attitude and some even had tattoos, but they were never able to really go beyond that, at least not back in the last boy band era, in the 90's and early 21st century. 1D did sexually explicit moves on stage, made sexual innuendos, etc. And nobody gave a crap that they did it, that wouldn't have been the case back in the 90's. They are also a lot funnier than any boy band I have ever seen. Most boy bands are just so freaking serious, way too serious, all the time (trying for that whole bad boy image). Another reason 1D was never your typical boy band. And 1D's members are so different from each other and all of them have very strong, independent personalities, no two members are alike and it shows big time. Same with the vocals, probably why they harmonize so well. Since each has a completely unique voice from the other, they fill in the gaps that the other voices leave, making the harmonies truly full. What one doesn't have vocally, another can add and build on the whole until you get this full, rich sound. Another thing many boy bands lack, not all but many. Probably one of the many reasons 1D got so big so fast. They pretty much broke the mold on what a boy band had to be like. They went outside the box. That is very refreshing.

Yeah me too. You are allowed to like more than one boy band at a time. Some people see boy bands as competing with each other. I think there is room for more than one big boy band in the world. There are so many people on this planet, that it doesn't have to be a competition.

Can't wait fans question part
First of all One Direction didn't rip off any songs and do not look like little girls!! They are worlds apart from BSB and NSYNC so do not even think of comparing them. It's a whole other generation and different style of pop music. I'm not hating on anyone's comments on here because I grew up with BSB and NSYNC. Best time of my life but I also enjoy One Direction and I don't think people should compare them or put them down. They are doing their own thing ans representing the Brits well.

When Backstreet Boys first came out, I'm pretty sure most of their fans were teens to. You grew up and so did the band.When One Direction is older, the fans will be twenty some years old and they will still love them. I'm thirteen currently, and I know for a fact even if they are broke up when I'm twenty. I will always be a fan because they made me realize things. One Direction are role models for girls AND boys. I bet the Backstreet Boys were like that to?You know role models?Idols? So yea.

Were the Jonas brothers a boy band? Cause whenever people talk about boy bands they never mention them. I'd understand if they wernt successful but for a while they were the big thing. Were they maybe classified as just a band because they all played instruments?
probably because they played instruments while singing. They are sort of in the in between, not entirely a boy band, because of the instrument thing, but also they have elements of a boy band, such as all of them having leads vocals at some point and them singing together as a group, instead of it being just one lead singer with back up. It's sort of up in the air with them. It's like with the Beatles, who also played their own instruments but also sung together as well, people debate on whether to actually count them as a boy band or not. Where is the line on that one? I guess it's where you want it to be. Whatever your definition of a boy band is. If we put bands who play their own instruments into that category, then the boy band category would grow much bigger than it is. And then you have those in between, such as One Direction, due to the fact that Niall Horan in that group, actually does play the guitar during a lot of their songs on stage. So yeah, the Jonas Brothers are sort of in the grey area here. You can include them in the boy band category, or you don't have to include them. Either way is fine.

why are people comparing 1d and the backstreet boys? there completly different bands, for one 1d are much younger than them and two for me both of their music is really different from each others so its impossible to compare them

I'm a huge BSB fan, and forever will be, but I honestly can't stand One Direction. People have told me to give them a chance, and I have, but there's just something about them that almost makes my skin crawl. I don't know what it is. I respect the boys in One Direction, but I can't bare to listen to their music.
