If We Were Vampires hits me hard every time I hear it, but to see and hear the two of them sing it to each other was incredible. Beautiful beyond words.
It reminds me of my bf who's a bit older than me an I always tell him we better get 40 years. That's song made me cry when we heard it live not long ago.
How they can sing If We Were Vampires like that to one another and not cry is beyond me. I get blubbery every time I hear it. Jason and Amanda are amazing together.
I found her first, and am so grateful she to brought me to Jason as well. Her phrasing is always awe-inspiring, and the way her childhood turns one syllable words into two just delights me. If Jason messes this up I will find him in whatever gutter he's laying in and beat him down into it again. You might like this: I listen to it again and again. ua-cam.com/video/fkHyP3hpB5c/v-deo.html
@ it is a great song but I prefer streetlights live version. It is by far his most underrated song. It tells such a sad story about a drunk that hits so deep. If we were vampires is a great song though
I spend way too much time searching for my favorite versions of Jason's touching, enigmatic and personal musical revelations. This is my discovery today and, once again, I'm led to open my heart to his healing, his sharing. Don't think I'll ever tire of this powerful voice, and the truths this remarkable man lays out in each song. Thank you, Jason.
You are absolutely correct. And in a slight disappointment, when I saw Jason and the 400, on their trip to NJ, they did the more Rock oriented songs , and it was great but ... I love the intimate, acoustic type stuff , so much better.
Love how Jason gives Amanda little winks ... the way they look at one another ... they're amazing together musically, harmonically, - their connection is evident. Love Sadler's slide work ... so good ...
In my opinion "Vampires" is one of the best love songs ever written. The fact that he gets to sing it to her on stage is enough to make an unsentimental, cynical malcontent like me get sweaty eyes.
Sadler was a lot cooler when he was in a band in Charleston SC called "Leslie" and I opened up for them at the Windjammer...now he's playing with a grammy winner, and I'm playing dive bars in the Appalachian Mtns.....lmao I'm not being salty either, just sarcastic....Sadler will always be cool.
@@robrowden1018 Jason said in an interview that after he wrote it, he couldn't record it at first because he couldn't make it through the song without crying.
i absolutely love EVERY single piece of music this man has written and performed. his voice and amandas together are just hauntingly beautiful. such an amazing talent we are all so lucky to have Jason Isbell in our Lives.
Bleessed voice of an man who knows how to say it and not afraid of being heard!!!Talent with conviction is Blessed. I love each and every song, every note and the blend is perfect harmony and rythyme drifts like a dream......amazing
Ive seen Jason and the 400 Unit about 8 times now in all formats, small clubs, Jason solo, and in the bigger venues in London and a festival couple of weeks ago. Love all of them. Initially his acoustic stuff was what grabbed me but love the new album and the faster songs just as much now.Just goes from strength to strength.
His first solo show in London was a pure sweaty rock gig. One of the best I have been to. His songs can hit home in any format. It would be good to see a different format again in Europe now - but I can understand how he wants to push that Grammy winning album.
I really liked James Mcmurtry until I saw him open at DPAC in Durham for Jason 2 nights in a row. Played the exact songs and said the exact few words identically. He was just going through the motions. Not good.....
How in God's name did they make it through that song staring right at eachother? I couldn't hold it together listening to it on UA-cam let alone looking my wife square in the eye while I'm singing it.
the first time I heard this song, I was driving for Lyft waiting for someone needing transportation. I had to pull over and just be done for a while. It's a song written with such deep love and tenderness, it's too good to hear.
Rivals Neil Young, God willing he'll stay sober. The lyrics are so timely, the rhymes are flawless, and he's got a beautiful wife and young daughter. Is There Vengeance Up in Heaven?
Wow, What an introduction to Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires and Sadler Vaden. Thanks for this, so glad to have heard this music, haunted by "White Man's World". " Still breathing, it's not too late..."
I ❤️❤️❤️ seeing White Mans World and how he looks at Amanda right now and the up and coming of her band The Highwomen they are fire 🔥 and he smiled at her like he knew in that line “they never gonna let her”
That is some pretty darn great lyrics he's got going there. It is also so nice to have that look of being totally in love each time Amanda looks at Jason.
I love how him and Amanda are sing to each other in "If we were vampires". I believe it provides a little insight as to why he can write such meaningful lyrics. Awesome video!!
Saw him when he came to MN and it was one of the best shows I have been to in a while. I wish they could have played longer I was really hoping to hear some more throwback Brive by Truckers songs. This man has been underrated for a long, long time. Thank you for taking the time to upload this and get him some well-deserved airtime!!!
That's the best version of "If We Were Vampires" I've ever seen or heard. Goodness me. He just continues to grow & evolve as a songwriter and artist, continually building this incredible catalogue of emotions and timeless moments. Quite simply, brilliant. The best of our time? Yeah, quite possibly.
Jason is currently 41 in 2020. For my money, when this was recorded in 2018, he was the best American songwriter under age 40. He’s still on another level.
Great to see Amanda and Sadler stretch a bit. Seems Amanda dug deeper into the songs than I usually see in performance. This is one of the best UA-cam uploads I have seen of them.
I am so happy that Jason got his life together and found his way. But I honestly can't relate to him the same way I used to. Still a beautiful songwriter and performer, but I miss the old Jason sometimes.
He is still the same and in ways better- listen to Tiny Desk he jokes about aliens and LSD and in the new video when he sat in with the Highwomen the new band Amanda is in (they are amazing) he makes a joke about being gay! He was probably a fun drunk “up until a certain point” I know ppl like that. They have to take it to the next level and be offensive and an ass by the end of it!
I wish I could see him playing live. He is one of few authentic musicians and every line he writes is so meaningful. I only wish we could really be vampires...
I saw them here in my home state of North Carolina and besides We Were Vampires they put on more of a rock concert. They have a very talented drummer who is not with them in this video and more guitars and guitar solos by Sadler. It is an amazing show though. It is only a matter of time before they will make it to Poland I am certain. Amanda’s band opens the show (she does a lot of work) and plays her songs which are amazing.
When my favorite singer/songwriter John Prine says he is great I know it isn't just me that thinks he is. Damn I wish I had the ability to write so much into a song, a short story that you can read while drinking a cup of coffee driving down the road at 70 MPH and know all about the subject in less than 5 minutes. I didn't come up with that quote about the short story, I don't have the ability to come up with something like that, if I did I would have a tiny bit of the talent Isabell has.
I just heard of him and I have chills. I don't even listen to country. I'm a straight 90s-2000s hip hop fan. This guy might be the greatest lyricist I've ever heard.
If We Were Vampires hits me hard every time I hear it, but to see and hear the two of them sing it to each other was incredible. Beautiful beyond words.

I honestly believe that Jason is the greatest song writer of our generation.
No Doubt.
Agreed.
As a lifelong musician who has listened to thousands of artists, you'll get no argument from me.
i am 54, i like to think i span a couple of generations at least. Isbell is as good as it gets. Period.
Our generations (born in 81) greatest songwriter! Brilliant stories set to perfect music.
How they can sing If We Were Vampires like that to one another and not cry is beyond me. I get blubbery every time I hear it. Jason and Amanda are amazing together.
Amanda Shires is so subtle, but adds so much. I love them together.
Flip Flop check out The Highwomen her new supergroup with Brandi Carlisle and two others- they are true fire 🔥
Amy Farris and gorgeous,Jason did well, wish both of them happiness and success.
I’ve never heard such a love song...if we were vampires....tears came, and flowed.
“If we were vampires” is one of the greatest songs of all time.

“Songs she sang in the Shower” is not a bad one either.
Writing these four songs alone would be a hell of a songwriting career.
He's managed drunkard, husband, father, guitarist and songwriter, in no order.
I'm still struggling with the 1st :)
Jason has a way of writing words that cut so deep and feel so familiar to my own life and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
As a singer songwriter just starting out, Jason Isbell has really given me hope for ppl wanting to hear intelligent well thought out lyrics 🙏
I love these pared down performances. It gives us a clear listen to the extraordinary musicianship of these 3. Fantastic.
You are absolutely correct. And in a slight disappointment, when I saw Jason and the 400, on their trip to NJ, they did the more Rock oriented songs , and it was great but ...

I love this man's writing so much.
The best 17:50 minutes I've spent in a long while. This man is the songwriter we all wanted to be!
Richard Alan Prow Every line he sings hurts my heart.
In my opinion "Vampires" is one of the best love songs ever written.
The fact that he gets to sing it to her on stage is enough to make an unsentimental, cynical malcontent like me get sweaty eyes.
Proof nothing lasts forever…
Can we all agree that Sadler Vaden is the coolest name ever?
I'm partial to Jimbo Hart as well. Some solid country names in that band, haha
Agree.
hard to argue
Sadler was a lot cooler when he was in a band in Charleston SC called "Leslie" and I opened up for them at the Windjammer...now he's playing with a grammy winner, and I'm playing dive bars in the Appalachian Mtns.....lmao I'm not being salty either, just sarcastic....Sadler will always be cool.
As cool as Gurf Morlix.
What a song to sing together as wife and husband, If we were vampires. Powerful.
No idea how they can sing that together and not tear up...sad but beautiful
That song is brutally beautiful.
@@robrowden1018 Jason said in an interview that after he wrote it, he couldn't record it at first because he couldn't make it through the song without crying.
Thanks for having the guts to sing those songs.. Great song writing. Beautiful
As the father of two biracial children, White Man’s World is so powerful. The last line makes me cry every time ✊🏼
jaw dropped at if we were vampires. incredible songwriting and music, wow
i absolutely love EVERY single piece of music this man has written and performed. his voice and amandas together are just hauntingly beautiful. such an amazing talent we are all so lucky to have Jason Isbell in our Lives.

"There's no such thing as someone else's war", Whew, that one hit home like twin 50's blasting on a gun boat. ✌❤🙏
The intimacy, songwriting, their interaction, their musical skill all make this a powerful, soulful, moving performance. Thank y’all so much.
Hard to argue with Zack. "Questions like directions to the truth". Beautiful line, beautiful sentiment. Lucky man.
When Jason left the last line as "Am I?" and didn't finish the line was genius. Left me wanting more.
Good lord.
Might be the first time I’ve commented on a video. This gentleman and his band are the truth.
A friend of mine, who is a studio sound engineer and has heard it all, said as much. The most honest lyrics he's ever heard.
Commenting on UA-cam videos should be an act of voting. Only voting have nowadays.
Am reasonably new to Jason's music. Fast becoming a huge fan. Wonderful writing and performance.
What an artist saw him in Dublin last year pure class !
Ive seen Jason and the 400 Unit about 8 times now in all formats, small clubs, Jason solo, and in the bigger venues in London and a festival couple of weeks ago. Love all of them. The best of the best. True musicians.
Amanda was ON IT in this video 🙏🏼🙌🏼

These guys are awesome❤❤❤ salute to the best there is🎉
Shires fiddle really shines in this format. Love it.
Totally inspirational to know that songwriters like Jason are out there, keeping it real.
omg, this black lady is in love. fabulous artist
I ❤️❤️❤️ seeing White Mans World and how he looks at Amanda right now and the up and coming of her band The Highwomen they are fire 🔥 and he smiled at her like he knew in that line “they never gonna let her”
This pack really gives me different perspective on a day like today. Thanks for posting this.
That is some pretty darn great lyrics he's got going there. It is also so nice to have that look of being totally in love each time Amanda looks at Jason.
Vampires - A great love song between J and A. Great performance.
This is the partnership we all strive for...meeting your Divine Complement...and sharing the joy of music.
Beautiful guys, and thank you 😊✌️❤️
Holy smokes Isbell, you get me every time.....
One of the best 20 minutes I've ever spent.
absolutely incredible performance. White Man's World slowed down just a little bit and stripped to acoustic... SO GOOD!!!
I love how him and Amanda are sing to each other in "If we were vampires". I believe it provides a little insight as to why he can write such meaningful lyrics.
Awesome video!!
there's so much love in that wink from Isbell to Shires at around the 5:07 mark :)
i know, he totally is telling her "i'm going to fuck you in the ass at the hotel tonight, and you're gonna fucking like it"
Jack Kanov Baaaaaahaha!
Hahah you sound like Joe Buck at cowboy stadium....Isbell to Shires in the corner of the end zone
I loved the audio recording of this session, especially the conversation between the songs but his video makes me feel like I was there! Well done!

Goosebumps... love this. Hope to see them perform live one day.
Nicely done Thank you!
Well, this stopped me in my tracks for 17 minutes......
keep trucking Jason!
Great job folks! Love your stuff Jason.
Jason is currently 41 in 2020. For my money, when this was recorded in 2018, he was the best American songwriter under age 40. He’s still on another level.
Amanda's solo on Vampires brought tears to my eyes.
Can't wait to see Jason and the 400 Unit next month. They are so great live!
Just beyond amazing, don't know what else to say!
That wink you gave Amanda at 3:44 made my heart skip a beat. So sweet.~thump!~thump!~♥️
Awesome, and Sadler is as good as it gets to boot...
Jason and Amanda were reallyyy feeling sparks during this one
Really beautifully wrought songs...
Great to see Amanda and Sadler stretch a bit. Seems Amanda dug deeper into the songs than I usually see in performance. This is one of the best UA-cam uploads I have seen of them.
There's not a lot of REAL music out there anymore... but Isbell and Prine are still keepin it honest.
I reckon they pretty good
John Moreland?
Ed Fulginiti can't forget Tyler childers
John Fullbright too
Agree, but you can't forget Chris stapleton, and chris Knight
Not only are these songs are impeccably done, but Sadler and Jason's shirts are pretty dope, plus Amanda is as fly as ever!
"Last of My Kind"...whoa. Some tasty slide guitar and fiddle right there.
I am so happy that Jason got his life together and found his way. But I honestly can't relate to him the same way I used to. Still a beautiful songwriter and performer, but I miss the old Jason sometimes.
No offense, but as someone who was on the same road as Jason and also managed to get off it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Arkansas is a long long way from here…gets me every time
SIMPLY GREAT!!
I wish I could see him playing live. He is one of few authentic musicians and every line he writes is so meaningful. I only wish we could really be vampires...
Anna Szostakowska he is absolutely phenomenal. Best $45 I ever spent.
John Salazar I wish he could come to Poland where I live I would pay twice as much to see him
I saw them here in my home state of North Carolina and besides We Were Vampires they put on more of a rock concert. 17 times and counting 😍
If you ever get a chance go❤️
just wonderful!
The way he looks at her when he’s singing “if we were vampires” is so beautiful to watch.
great music
OMG... linked here through duet with Ryan Adams... both have restored my hope for singer/songwriters!
WOW, I LOVED this!!!
Had to watch again.
Just beautiful music!
Yep can't beat him
Don't mind me, just over here listening to If We Were Vampires and sobbing
You cant fake goosebumbs
You can't spell it either.
(Sorry, obvious set up line, I couldn't resist. :)
Saw him in KC this past weekend. Show was great. Wish Amanda could have been there.
I was there too! Great show with Turnpike Troubadours and the Old 97s.
Saw these three, acoustic, at Lyric in Birmingham Al.
Beyond perfect.
Jason's new signature D-18 got a good look to it!
Even the cameras eyes are watering. What a performance. 11:40
Hahaha totally!
Both guitarists are hot blues players as well...... Great stuff I wish we had that music in Ireland, come over some time Lads and lassie
mr.Schrock;
yes mr.Isabell is a great song writer. His song are very straight forward. He stands up there with todays great song writers.
I hope he will always play smallish venues like the Rymen in Nashville. Heart driven honest words with beautiful musicianship…

Your questions like directions to the truth. Wow!
I heard the name but not the song, on National Radio NZ, the other day. Anything they play is worth checking out. Glad I did.
Anyone else selfishly wish that this phenomenal artist never "makes it big"
I just heard of him and I have chills. I don't even listen to country. I'm a straight 90s-2000s hip hop fan. This guy might be the greatest lyricist I've ever heard.

Thank you so much for uploading this video. What a wonderful performance.
wow.. that Vampires song had me wrecked.. 😢
