It is refreshing to look at you're post, and see someone like yourself who is not trying to promote either themselves or a friend's bar, or a friend's restaurant, there seems to be one or two youtubers recently who all they do is try to sponge a coffee or a beer from thier subscribers , and in return give the same information out that everyone else is giving, and has been giving for many years, there is one who in a vlog was saying how corrupt the thai police are, !! Well it's only a matter of time before he's in a certain hotel on beach road, a hotel with many bars, but they sure don't sell Leo or chang !! I annoys me to hear certain vloggers to call first time visitors Simps, we have all made the same mistakes in the past for sure, the bar owners that suddenly become vloggers, forget themselves to, they left England or other countries bought a bar and became pimps, !! Yet they have the nerve in thier videos to try and warn us about the girls they employ, that's double standards and a joke !! Agh well I enjoyed you're post, and look forward to the next one, I hope you're health stays good.

Woww. Appreciate your comments. i have been here thirty years and have seen mny bars come and go. Except for the pandemic now appears to be the real death knell for many bars with the change of tourist demographics. It seems like many thing Santa is going to bring all the trade back... will see. Lots of bars epmty, closed going out of business. So what they do? Build another few hundred... crazy huhh?

As a first impression of your channel as an elderly man I totally get what you’re saying. Personally I’m putting the loss of my own muscle as being a symptom of age, something that if you can’t change we’ve got to make the best of.
Wise words that might be better delivered with a smile, a grim worried in the eye expression portrays a pessimist. Thanks for providing something of interest and please don’t be afraid of well meaning critics.

Hi, I'm a little older than you and over thirty years ago I found that what you consume is key to having a higher quality of life. Next, maintaining physical activity/ Things to reduce or eliminate as much as possible:
Stress, Dairy products, Alcohol, sugars, carbs, activities that increase your chance to be hospitalized. Reduce the amount of walking/running due to joint issues at our older age. Find low-impact exercise like the Elliptical machine vs the treadmill. Swimming is great if you are not in a 'chlorine' sanitized pool, this toxin at our age should be avoided.
    Things to add in:
Take vitamin supplements since many food items don't have all enough important nutrients.
Note that the Foods from around the world are not as healthy as we think. This because of the complex mixture of ingredients. Our body will be stressed as it tries to digest this mix. I keep my meal very simple with one or two items lightly seasoned and I chew it thoroughly and not rush to eating it. Consume a very small amount of liquids while eating so that don't add more complexity to this food. Having a beer, soda, alcohol or fruit drinks should be avoided.
Cook most of your meals at home and reduce eating out. Cook most of your meals at home and reduce eating out. Eat less not more, the all you can eat deal is not healthy for anyone.
I hope you feel better and think about what I've learned from real nutritionists after having had many foods related health issues.

Your post is really appreciated and I think I already follow most of your advice. The beers have long gone, no spirits. Drinking lots of water which is essential here. I am guilty of a very occasional can of cider, with no intention of stopping. We do eat out a lot but small Thai outlets and healthy foods, salads and noodles etc. No frying! Enjoy fish and seafood and fresh fruit. I do have a rowing machine here which has become an ornament. I keep promising myself to give it a go again.... tomorrow! Thanks again!

Not much chance to forget. Where I stay is okay actually. Only during the burning season do we see a problem here. Sanitation is good all houses have there own sewage tanks which get epmptied as required. But go down Pattaya can smell the sewage in many areas coming out of the drains. Why the locals put covers over :-( The really big problem rests in the Philippines!

I spent several years in the RN and had a few dinners on the Victory plus several beers over the years. I have had my family in Portsmouth dockyard twice since I retired, 2018 and earlier this year in March. I bought this model several years ago at auction. I believe it came from a bar that shut down called the Lord Nelson. Still got the Navy in my system although I retired in 1991!

@@mrpaul6356 Over the years I went on 2 week trips and 1 month trips, my last visit 22/23 was 7 months, insurance wise the first few 2 week visits I chanced it, then on my month visits I got cover easily up till I was 65 y/o, my last 7 month trip I intended to just stay 3 months and I had cover for that, but I chanced the last 4 months, I turned 69 in TH on 23 may 2023,.In the past I’ve used “insure & go” but this week I tried a quote off “Allclear travel insurance” 3 or 4 options and prices all well under £500, it was a yearly multi trip policy with no medical conditions, I’ve toyed with “AXA” and “AVANTI” “SAGA” in the past but to be honest I’ve not committed to any since turning 70, I could go down the self insurance road yet,oh I have a “ post office” travel insurance pack I have yet to read thoroughly,. Just now you are talking travel insurance. I used to use Insure and Go on an Annual cover. At that time each trip was maximum 90 days, maybe that has changed now? Have you seen UA-cam Steady Eddie Travels? He was using the Post Office Travel Insurance when he developed serious Brai Cancer here in Pattaya. Spent about 3 months in Intensive care before getting medevaced back to UK. With existing conditions his PO insurance cost him GBP 1100.. I have heard that the bill here was close to 8 million Baht! Travel insurance is no good if you are settled here, it is Health Insurance that is required. I really have no idea what you would pay for insurance. I know many guys use Pacific Cross, based in Hong Kong. :-)

Difficult question. Medical bills in hospitals here can rake up quickly, particularly in private hospitals. A fall back is the public hospitals which expats can use. Obviously care and attention drops also, but they can do the job! Insurance is the way to go but is expensive. Also consider existing conditions if any! I have a friend retired here. Had a major heart attack and died, was revived after 5 minutes but with severe brain damage. His medical bill here in private hospital was 3.5 Million. Then he still had to return UK for treatment. Never made it back to Thailand. Feel free to keep in touch and good luck in retirement.

      1) I live in Udon Thani and I am 67 yo and had heart stents put in when I was 58. As I got pre-conditions and at my age Health Insurance is expensive and there would be exemptions and I know they won’t cover me for anything heart related or a stroke. So I self insure.
      2) Hospitals In Thailand Wikipedia & List Of Hospitals Thailand In Thailand Wikipedia explains all the different types of hospitals and gives a list of every hospital in Thailand by Province in alphabetical order.
      - All Government Hospitals are Public Hospitals and come under the MOPH (Ministry Of Public Health) but all Public Hospitals are not MOPH hospitals. A good example of this is King Chukalongkorn Memorial Hospital which is a Red Cross Public Hospital that us run by a Non Profit Trust and though not under the MOPH is affiliated and then teaching hospitals for Chulalongkorn University Medical School.
      - A few Private Christian Hospitals are Non Profit and a good example is Bangkok Christian Hospital which has a good reputation with Expats.
      - In recent years there has been a trend for Government Hospitals to open Foreign Customer Offices. The first and which was the Model for others was Vachira Government Hospital in Phuket City. Others that I know of are Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani. I have used the service at Udon Thani which costs 810 THB per visit. They have an a/c waiting room, your fast tracked to seeing a Dr, There are customer relation ladies who speak English and will help with any translation you need. I spoke with these Oadies and they told me they have agreements with most Thailand Health Insurance Companies who they can bill direct. Not sure how it works in places like Bangkok but in Places like Udon Thani the same Dr’s cover Private and Government Hospitals. I had an operation in both Private & Government and thought the medical care was about equal but the Private is a nicer environment but the Public is about a 1/3rd the cost of a standard Private.
      - Udon Thani also has a government cancer hospital and I do know one guy who had his prostrate cancer treated there and got the all clear and was happy with the care and cost. Khon Kaen government hospital also has the Queen Siriket Heart Center which only gets good reports.
3)With reference to Public/Government hospitals you might want to check the following out.

      - This should take you to a thread which is one of many but you will Queen Siriket Heart Center at Khon Kaen government hospital gets good reviews and you can see the cost compared to private hospitals - Heart Treatment Info Needed ASEANNOW.
      - This should take you to a Thread where Toast 1 says Udon Thani cancer hospital was excellent, cheap and easy to get an appointment - Government Hospitals Cancer ASEANNOW.

I want to make it clear that I am not attempting to argue with you, but you are suggesting that COVID vaccines made you illl. Whilst it cannot be excluded as a possibility, there are numerous other explanations that are more likely and ignoring them is not in your interest, as it prevents you from recovering. You clearly attempted to exercise and whilst I suggested previously that you might not be trying hard enough, I would have expected you to make some progress regardless of your attitude to exercise. This implies that you have another problem. Please report your symptoms accurately to a qualified doctor. It is a pity you didn't do this in Scotland, as an NHS doctor would have been a good opportunity to get an independent opinion. Be careful with Thai doctors, as they are notorious for extracting money out of patients for unnecessary treatment. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.
