Clapton has earned the right to be a touch boring and commercial having been the guy all guitar players in the world wanted to sound like in the '60s when on his Gibsons. Nobody got near him in those days, not even Hendrix, and nobody can play like that, not even Clapton himself, anymore. It was pure magic.
Totally agree, the years Eric spent with Cream and Gibson guitars were by far his best, yes influenced by Hendrix, but he added his own melodic synthesis of major and minor, combined with superb bends and vibrato, all of which he could repeat in live performances.
Clapton's style is so smooth and chewy. He makes the simplest things sound like they're sexy and supple. Somehow notes connect to one another like stretched taffy, and he can make even straight 8th notes swing
I like it all. His sound with John Mayalls'Bluesbreakers and Cream. His tone on Let It Rain from his first solo album however is my favorite. Thanks for your insight, always a lot of fun. 🙏😷🎶🎵❗👀
Gibson, Fender, Clapton can sound great playing anything. I've always said you can give him a Teisco guitar and he'd make it scream. I met him back in 69 at a little clothing store he did a grand opening for and he borrowed another bands guitarist SG sounded great.
I like your channel. Im not very good in English but when i listen to you i understand everything. Its must be your talent in that sphere. Miss dizzy lizzy is one of Best rock n roll tunes ever. Cheers brother
I love his Gibson period, but my favorite Clapton period was Derek and the Dominos. Live at the Fillmore is some of his most passionate playing. Even though I prefer the the grit and power of Gibsons he has recorded a lot of great guitar on Strats.
Nice. Thanks GP. I still just love the guitar and rock and blues after all these years and I’m a GP too. Except I’m a grandpa. Ha. Some hippie long hair. Well not so much anymore. Cheers!
Totally agree about Clapton's best stuff was on Gibson's. I've mentioned that before and got called a heretic! Personally I think EC's best strat tone, excluding the Layla sessions which are phenomenal, is on The Pros And Cons of Hitchhiking with Roger Waters.
I think Eric's most incredible stuff is from the unreleased jam sessions recorded during the Layla recoding sessions. You can find them on UA-cam. G-Damn!
Great video & I agree with you about Clapton playing Gibson guitars. However, when Fender forked over the big bucks to get him to promote their guitars, well you know the rest! 🎸🎸🤔🤔
I live in a unit, Therefore I need to keep the volume down, Somewhere you described the gear & Software you use. I like the idea that you have all effects and Amp's at the click of the mouse.Hope you can advise me on this.
now your asking - clapton def has more bad patches with the fender (think late 70's 80's and now) he also played some of his best stuff with a fender though - DD, from the cradle..
you're right there....the gibson humbucker sound suited Erics style of playing so much better...the strat needs somebody like Rory Gallagher playing fast and more agressive, not as layed back as Erics.....:-D...when i play Strat it's a bit like "hard work"...and a humbucker guitar is my lazymans tool....:-D another perfect example is Billy Gibbons.....
I too prefer Eric Clapton before "Eric Clapton", The Yarbirds, John Mayall Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominoes. He is a virtuoso, but his creativity, his inventiveness with these groups has been unmatched since.
To me it doesn't matter what guitar Clapton is playing, he's always getting the best out of it. Just check out his sound in the 80's (his concert in Birmingham in '86 with Phill Collins, Greg Phillinganes and Nathan East), his Southbank Session with Buddy Guy in '87...he even gets a fenominal sound out of Lace Sensor pickups!!
I love your program since the beginning your style, but...this awful black les paul... I guess studio ...horrible in your hands...was expecting a custom 59...but anyway greetings from Morocco 🤙

Gibson.

Totally disagree! Best EC periods were Derek & Dominoes and Journeyman! And what guitar did he plays there?
Same here. I prefer the sound & the songs of the Gibson period.
Well his best Gibson solo IMHO is from “While my guitar gently weeps”. That solo is iconic!
Totally agree, the years Eric spent with Cream and Gibson guitars were by far his best, yes influenced by Hendrix, but he added his own melodic synthesis of major and minor, combined with superb bends and vibrato, all of which he could repeat in live performances.
Clapton was with cream before he even knew who hendrix was I believe
Hendrix was influenced by Clapton more than Clapton by Hendrix
Check your chronology mate...
The value of a good riff should never be underestimated. You really know to sniff them out, especially the old school ones. Thanks!
love that you covered some of Clapton's Gibson work, it gets drowned out by his strat work so much
Clapton's style is so smooth and chewy. He makes the simplest things sound like they're sexy and supple. Somehow notes connect to one another like stretched taffy, and he can make even straight 8th notes swing
TY Pilgrim, your the best when it comes to finding these great riffs, you always make me break out my guitar and play,, So Thank you again,,,😎✌✝💕💕💕
I like it all. His sound with John Mayalls'Bluesbreakers and Cream. His tone on Let It Rain from his first solo album however is my favorite. Thanks for your insight, always a lot of fun. 🙏😷🎶🎵❗👀

Your playing abilities always amaze me. Thank you for this video, as I've been a great Eric Clapton fan since the '60's.
You always make me grab my guitar!! Awesome!! Thank you so much!!
brilliantly explained. Remember learning the start the rhythm lick on two from listening to Robert Johnson. Your videos are terrific.
So great you covered this particular magical Clapton performance, as I myself have marveled at it for years

GP the best guitar channel on UA-cam, by miles. When are we going to have the pleasure of hearing one of your riffs?
Jetair reflexes... I love the way you´re on. ;-)
Great! As always!
E C been my favorite since I was 16 many years ago 🎸
Genius. Thanks Pilgrim!
Love that. Thanks.

Grazie Maestro!
Thanks! Every videos-syper👍👍👍
erics best playing was prob from the cradle sessions - played both!
Toronto1969 - great energy
Very cool Mr Pilgrim! Learned something new!
Thanks for the tab and the backing track GP.
Merci for creating enjoyable videos.
"Jedi reflexes ", 🤣👍
Nice work as usual, thanks Piligrim.
Muy buen video
Gracias muchas.
Claptons best period was late 80s through the 90s. Everything he did combined with just as much passion if not more than before.
The turnaround at the very end is great, you need to show that! :)
Nice. Thanks GP. I still just love the guitar and rock and blues after all these years and I’m a GP too. Except I’m a grandpa. Ha. Some hippie long hair. Well not so much anymore. Cheers!

@@talkshow122, Thanks for this.
Could you do a lesson on magic sams song sams boogie from 1969.
Cheers from Indonesia country 🇮🇩
Nice!
Jedi reflexes
🥷😊🙃
I'm surprised to see you with a Les Paul! How long have you been with this guitar?
For a couple of months, love the sound!
begreep ik nou dat je terugkomt naar NL? groet Constant
Well done, again :-)
I don't think so.....His Strat tones after Cream were EXCELLENT!
What’s the tab of the lead lick? Is it on the B string or G string? I can’t tell.
Bending B up to match the E and playing both strings together
@@runreilly That would snap a string for sure. It's more like a bend to a C or C#.
What's the name of this song? Loved it..
Dizzy miss lizzy
Fender, Gibson, or Schwinn. I think Clapton makes them all sound great.
Gibson!
Yep a gibson had more sustain and real highs...but it was cold....a strat is sweeter hardly no sustain...hence fuzz face etc...
I might of missed it, but what song are they playing here?
Yes, the Beatles made it famous, but you might have mentioned it was by Larry Williams, who also wrote "slow down". Talk about brilliant riffs.
now your asking - clapton def has more bad patches with the fender (think late 70's 80's and now) he also played some of his best stuff with a fender though - DD, from the cradle..

another perfect example is Billy Gibbons.....
Is that from The Rolling Stone's R and R Circus?
No, plastic Ono band I think
Thank you. Again. Out of ignorance I only know I prefer the early Eric to the late Eric.
I have always wished Eric Clapton would put down the Fender Strat and go back to the Gibson SG.
Wasn't that originally a Larry Williams song
You forgot to mention the importance of the face expressions for a great guitar solo!
Ha ha indeed!
Guitar Pilgrim, I reckon Mr Clapton has heard of your channel a d if he did , he'd be sure to (re) learn something
Guitar God
The best Fender guitar is the JEM!
This the reason why i buy ebony les paul gibson. 😅

Or just hitting the open A would be even better
I like Clapton a lot, but it's a Beatles song, and a Beatles riff. Clapton does it well, but didn't really create it...
Clapton so very over rated
I love your program since the beginning your style, but...this awful black les paul... I guess studio ...horrible in your hands...was expecting a custom 59...but anyway greetings from Morocco 🤙
I guarantee there are riffs Eric can’t play, so who gives a crap
