the symbolism in the video from my perspective: the wife treats the husband like a child and he submits to her without putting up a fight. in the beginning the husband sees himself in the child because he feels like he has to ask permission for everything and that he isn't in charge of his own life. he sees his wife as more motherly than an equal to him. the whole cheese fiasco shows just how dysfunctional their relationship is. later in the video, when he goes to the store and it's closed, its symbolizing that his attempts at getting his way have been shut down in the past because he lets people walk all over him and control him. when he sees the child again, he is yet again seeing the younger version of himself and what he truly wants. he finally lets himself have what he wants - this is symbolized by the child giving the cheese to him. finally, during the final scene, the dance symbolizes transformation. he goes from dancing with the child version of himself, to dancing with his wife. this shows that he is learning to stand up for himself and, in doing so, finally feels like an equal to his wife. by the way - I LOVE YOU RUBY ROSE! :3
Is this what it's like to be in a toxic relationship? One person changes your words and makes you feel guilty that it's your fault for causing the problem when it really wasn't?
seriously, there could be someone sitting there bonking themselves on the head with a balloon while saying "Mommy" over and over and Ruby Rose walks in and just does what Ruby Rose, and I would watch it AND thumbs up it. Anything can be made worth watching if it has this God/des prancing around being the best thing to hit the interwebz and baffle everyone, since the color changing dress.
This is so powerful. "You should never disobey your woman, the lady is always right" It shouldn't matter what gender, you are human. If the person is wrong you speak up and tell them ! Gender has no part in what is right and what is wrong!!
Plot twist, the guy actually devised a false cheese motive to kidnap the little boy for his tracksuit and continues to be haunted by visions of him dancing and holding cheese.
This basically sums up me and my sister's relationship. :/ Example, our drive to university when we're running late: Sis: "Why did you take so long to get ready?! You need to start waking up earlier" Me: "I woke up before you." Sis: "Yeah and then took forever in the bathroom." Me: "Well you could've used the downstairs bathroom." Sis: "The upstairs one is the only one with my shampoo Jennifer." Me: "Well I was in the car before you, so I don't see how this is my fault..." Sis: "Are you saying it's my fault we're late?!" Me: "no I'm just saying it's not really all my fa-" Sis: "Next Time you can just walk." -__- «fml #iNeedAcar
The beginning sequence was all about gaslighting. Where someone psychologically tortures you, making you think you're crazy and making every situation all about them. My MIL does shit like this.
I think it's supposed to be a role reversal of a classic domestic violence dynamic/abusive relationship... although it kind of just makes her seem like an overbearing, over-controlling wife which just plays into a different stereotype.
Diana Muniz Considering that if a person is over-bearing and over-controlling it is deemed abusive, I think that it was pretty accurate. Both men and women abuse in relationships, it has been recorded that women are generally more abusive, using tactics such as manipulation and mental abuse. Physical abuse is rarer for women due to the fact that we are generally weaker and smaller (there are exceptions, and size/strength won't stop someone who is aggressive)
I wonder how many people actually picked up all the serendipitous allegorical complexity of this genius psychological parable that was sitting under the surface…
the way ruby keep saying unless I'm wrong made me crack up and feel awkward like dude just put back the cheese you can hear the patience breaking in her voice
I simply dont know what I have just watched But hearing ruby rose saying "IS IT MY FAULT THAT THERES NO CHEESE IN THE FRIDGE" somehow healed me from something I didnt knew what it was
I actually love the portrayal of this movie on gender roles and controlling relationships. And especially loved how they used the younger kid as a younger version of him (or at least I think that's what they did.) And then how at the end they were able to communicate on the same level, rather than her talking down on him and abusing him mentally.
says a lot to me about the genesis of male/female relationship, learned stereotypes, transference, and how simple/savagely difficult it can be to transgress them
Bernice Armould I didn't see it as commentary on gender roles, but I understand why you would see that. The question to ask here is, are these things actually learnt? Women have been found to be by far more manipulative and verbally malicious but stray from physical violence due to the fact of their size and strength (exceptions are made of course)
+Makenna Suhrbier it's like a manipulative relationship where they always put the blame on you and make you feel guilty for everything even if it was their fault
Tash Richardson Exactly. I was just trying to make a point to this girl. If she didn't understand the reasoning behind it she shouldn't have made up her own.
Basically, what this video meant is that the the small boy is the guy himself as of when he was small. Before, he had to get permission from his mom to buy things. Similarly, when he gets older he has to get permission from his wife to buy stuffs. He always had to rely on either his mom or his wife. But later when he dances with his former self, that means that he no longer is going to rely on others for stuffs.

i love the way ruby talks and i watched it over and over again
The beginning sequence was all about gaslighting. Where someone psychologically tortures you, making you think you're crazy and making every situation all about them. My MIL does shit like this.
She is awesome...I love that she can adapt to any role.
I think it's supposed to be a role reversal of a classic domestic violence dynamic/abusive relationship... although it kind of just makes her seem like an overbearing, over-controlling wife which just plays into a different stereotype.

That was a Gouda ending.
I thought it was Edam good ending...
who would have thought that ruby rose would make me have a weird sudden craving for cheese? XD
ruby could tell me what to do and what not to do any day and I would listen tbh
I wonder how many people actually picked up all the serendipitous allegorical complexity of this genius psychological parable that was sitting under the surface…
the way ruby keep saying unless I'm wrong made me crack up and feel awkward like dude just put back the cheese you can hear the patience breaking in her voice
I'm Australian and her accent is so strong I can hear it and I was born and raised in Australia and I'm honestly in love with her voice
Ruby Rose can lie to me about cheese anyday
Ruby makes everything look good, even a green tracksuit
Ruby is such a wonderful person and actress

I simply dont know what I have just watched
But hearing ruby rose saying "IS IT MY FAULT THAT THERES NO CHEESE IN THE FRIDGE" somehow healed me from something I didnt knew what it was

his wife has the calm anger that I mother has like they put on that fake happy face but inside you're just like holy shit what did i duo now
She’s rocking that look though
if i saw someone dancing like at the store i would dance along with them
I don't have a clue what I just watched but my reason was "I see ruby"
I don't know what i actually just watched.
Good point! Be a kid! Life is too short, and childhood goes by in the blink of an eye!
I actually love the portrayal of this movie on gender roles and controlling relationships. And especially loved how they used the younger kid as a younger version of him (or at least I think that's what they did.) And then how at the end they were able to communicate on the same level, rather than her talking down on him and abusing him mentally.
there is never anything wrong with having more cheese! never!
says a lot to me about the genesis of male/female relationship, learned stereotypes, transference, and how simple/savagely difficult it can be to transgress them
Huh...
"I wear the cheese. It does not wear me."

Ruby Rose perfect!
I have no clue what's going on but RUBY rose talking about cheese is my new favourite thinh
I wonder if Australians or British think the American accent is cool like some Americans think the other accent is cool.
No American accents are dumb
+Chewy wow thank you you are literally the nicest person.
A boy from the uk would only talk to me because of my "American accent" so idk
I'm Australian. I think most American accents are pretty attractive I guess.
American is in like every movie and series so it seems so normal and basically everything else seems like a cool accent (like Ruby)
This was so lame i wouldn't have watched this if ruby wasn't in it. Only here for Ruby
Tell me, what is the meaning of the film?
+Makenna Suhrbier it's like a manipulative relationship where they always put the blame on you and make you feel guilty for everything even if it was their fault
+Tash Richardson Okay. Now, what is the film? Is it lame? Or is it art?
+Makenna Suhrbier it's very creative and needed to be said
Tash Richardson Exactly. I was just trying to make a point to this girl. If she didn't understand the reasoning behind it she shouldn't have made up her own.
The fact that its 2:34 am And I just watched a six minuet video about cheese just because it had ruby rose in it...
Doesn't bother me at all
what the fuck did i just watch and why did i love every second of it
i think the little boy represents him. his mother gives him everything and Ruby tells him no.
I just watched a video about a man wanting cheese
3:45 is the " No this bitch didn't" face XD
I love how Ruby looks in the tracksuit😭❤️
she is fucking perfection.
this is so fabulous
2:04 is that Kylo Ren ? haha

Same😂

RUBY ROSE I LOVE YOU BABY 😍😍
For a fleeting moment in the beginning I thought the dancing man was Aaron Paul. My heart hoped.
this isnt a man struggling to find his voice, this is emotional abuse
That struggle when woolies is closed and ya really want some cheese! ;/
