They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

I was browsing YT a few months after getting into K-Pop by way of Blackpink and I saw a thumbnail of a girl in a black dress holding a sword and thought, "That looks cool". 3 minutes & 29 seconds later I was a fan and 4 years later they're my favorite group in all of music. Killer vocals, ridiculous performances, great choreo, & meaningful messages and themes make them some of the best to ever do it, imo. The rock infused k-pop sound is what Dreamcatcher are known for. They were dubbed "The face of rock in K-Pop" by rolling stone India and it's very accurate. Every title track and some b-sides will incorporate different genres of rock and metal instrumentals, but that's not all they do. They're discography is full of dozens of other genres & sub-genres of music including EDM, Trance, Trap, Funk, R&B, Rock, Metal, Pop, Jazz, Reggae, & much more. Yes, please, more Dreamcatcher! This is my Ult Group in all of Music, not just in K-Pop. That is because they do a whole bunch of different genres and they do a GREAT job of all of it! In this MV and in 'Boca', one group member was missing. The group's only foreign member, Han Dong, is from Wuhan China and she got STUCK there for almost a year (because of that pesky world-wide problem we had) when she went back home to do a few things. The group did a great job as Six members during that time but they all missed Han Dong like crazy! It just literally was not the same without her. The fandom CELEBRATED when Dongie got back to SK! She came back stronger as a person, her Korean language skills improved and she had gained confidence. She's AWESOME. I mean, she was AWESOME before she left and now... While Dongie was stuck there, she even reacted to this MV and 'Boca' and at least one more that I can think of that took place around the same time as 'Scream', so JiU still had Purple in her hair (totally iconic!). Her reactions can be found on Dreamcatcher's channel. I can't help but compare cases between Dreamcatcher (when Han Dong got stuck in China) and ITZY, when Lia went on a year-long hiatus to take care of her mental health and anxiety issues. She needed the break and she deserves to be happy but we are SO GLAD To have her back! She has recently changed the English spelling of her name to Gahyun so now it matches the name on her passport. Newer content of theirs will have the new spelling. Recently at their Oakland concert, the music cut out midway through Scream so naturally they just... finished the song using their own vocals and the crowd singing along. No back track, no nothing, just talent. And they killed it (and then they did the full song again without the music cutting out for the sake of the crowd getting the full experience, because they're sweethearts)

Five of the seven members were a girlypop group called Minx before they added the other two and rebranded into DC and went the rock and horror/fantasy route. They are amazing performers, which really shines in their live performances. If you think the vocals in Scream are good, you should check out some of their more vocal-heavy songs like BONVOYAGE and their most recent comeback, Justice. Their music deals with many social issues, such as cyberbullying, stalking/cyberstalking, climate change, social justice, etc.
