Thank you so much for highlighting how professor selection, if possible, can make a lot of difference in how one course or section of a course goes versus another. And as always, thanks for your honesty. Glad to know I am not the only one who thought the DUC was solid.
Thank you so much for this video! You seem very genuine and it was generally very informative! I'm planning on transferring here next Fall and super excited, but of course really nervous at the same time. If you don't mind answering some questions: What was your GPA coming into Emery? I'm scared I may not be up to par paired with the other students that might be thinking of applying here aswell. How good is the science department there in regards to the professors and the overall lectures/labs? Again, thank you for shedding some light on a few stuff!
I can't really say my GPA because our school had a weighted scale so it doesn't really translate well. The truth is, while a lot of people here are hardworking, there are also people who are not so great too. You have nothing to worry about - everyone learns to adjust! When I first got accepted, I thought I wasn't smart enough at all but I adapted my study habits and things worked out! You got this!!!
thanks!! do you have any recommendations for how to choose classes for freshmen year? like filling up the general reqs or any other professor recs or anything? thanks again loved the video!
Freshman seminars are ~supposed~ to be easy so take one or many that sound interesting. I have a ton of professor recs and easy classes if you want to message me privately!! In general, I would say, look on ratemyprofessors and take classes that genuinely are of interest. Sign up for as many as you can right now, and then once you get the syllabus, you can drop any that seem out of your range.
I guess it depends on how you were in hs. I was a lazy and didn't try at all so I had to work really hard in college to get decent grades. But if you have the work ethic, you just have to build up tolerance at the library!!
Thank you for the great info! I'm the mom of a HS junior whose top choice right now is Emory. I'd love to know what other schools you considered and why Emory won out. Did you apply ED?
I applied ED - I was deferred then accepted during regular admissions. I would highly recommend ED but ONLY if Emory is your child's top choice. Ultimately, I chose Emory over other schools because it resonated most with what I was looking for in my college experience. I wanted a medium size school, in an area different from where I grew up, close to a city, and heavy on student involvement. I thought hard about what I wanted to major in but also other departments because I knew college students change their major often. When I visited the school during accepted students day, I could really envision myself at Emory more than other schools. Choosing a college is a very personal choice for someone at 17 years old - trust your child's gut feelings about what they want!
I just got accepted into Emory as an ED applicant, I'm looking forward to it with a cautious optimism, but your videos have given me a lot more information.
I lived in Alabama!! the first couple weeks are daunting but meet as MANY people as you can because this is the only time people will all be nice! Dobbs is fairly small so don't pack too much stuff. Make sure you have ways to save space. Get excited, first semester is gonna be a blast!!
First - Just work on keeping up those grades! Emory is getting more and more competitive each year. Second - have a passion or something that you're working on outside of school!! Anything you can do to stand out as much as possible. Third - don't limit yourself to Emory! Check out all schools and be open to seeing what you love!
CS 170 and 171 are pretty rough - just a lot of heavy nonsense work to be honest so its all a guessing game in terms of those professors. After that, I took a couple classes by Professor Cheung that were very manageable - all of his exams are open notebook AND he cracks lots of dad jokes!
I've taken two introductory courses and my professors are really great. Emory makes a big deal about getting really famous writers for the department - some of whom are excellent writers but just okay teachers. I will say that the two professors I've had were astounding, though there were some other people who didn't love the way the workshops were taught. I love that people say Emory has "the best cw department in the nation" but like.. not that many schools have a cw dept. But I do highly recommend that you try it out because I absolutely do not regret the classes I took (plus the intro classes are a pretty easy A)
@@hello-sjc Ohh, awesome!! Thanks so much for the reply! :)) Emory is my dream college for the future and the creative writing course is my dream course XD
Hiiii... Plz reply!! Emory is my dream college! Can you please tell me that are there Muslim girls studying over there? And how are they treated? Love you☺️
Hello!!! One of my best friends was a part of the Muslim community. It's close-knit from what I hear, with their own group chat and events! I will say this with complete honesty - other religious groups on campus have larger populations, so to me, at times, it seemed that they were more vocal and connected to the administration. That being said, I wasn't a part of these large religious groups so I can't directly say what that experience is like. I hope that answers your question and doesn't deter you from applying. My Muslim friends are absolutely incredible and it would break my heart to think that they wouldn't have applied if they feared campus life.

I’m an incoming freshman, I move in the 24th. Do you have any tips for move-in/dorm-living? I’m going to be staying in Dobbs. Where did you stay?

I still can't decide to choose between Emory and UofW for my MPH.
What did you end up choosing? I’m looking into a MPH as well
@@asmital7160 Finally I chose WashU 😄. But Emory and UofW are also very good schools. You will definitely get a quality education 👍.
