So you want to see for the rest of your life his home renewal stuff or other content he will make after that? Even people that create this stuff will get tired and when we talk about viewers they will get bored of it soon and forget it sooner.
I don't mind him taking more time to finish his work because I am just a viewer and I want to see his best work. Still I would like to see a end to this soon and see new projects he is excited about.

A lot of European cabinet legs can be shortened by cutting the middle part of the leg. It's a workaround but can work.
If the middle tube part is fully threaded then you can cut from the bottom as much as needed. Sometimes the top part can be trimmed by a small amount so you still have enough to engage into the top connecter.

    • @-_James_-
      @-_James_- 2 роки тому +5

      This.
You don’t even need the whole tube to be threaded because you don’t need the full range when adjusting. Just trim the tube and the insert by the same amount.

Hi Mike, I'm an italian furniture maker, I just want to say you something about the mating part of the leveling leg. In Europe we usually place that part not completely on the crosspiece of the cabinet, but 5 mm under the side panel. In this way you can distribute weight of the cabinet, its content and the countertop to the side panel. In the way you showed all the weight is loaded on the junction between trhe crosspiece and the side. I hope I was understandable despite my english. I love the renovation you are doing, very inspiring.

  • @campfather
    @campfather 2 роки тому +23

This is gonna sound weird but you can just bandsaw off the bottom of the leveling feet to make them shorter. Ikea cabinets are built like this and I modified them to fit very square cabinets in a not very square kitchen. Works totally fine, as there’s still plenty of thread for the feet to grip.

The kitchen is starting to look amazing!
"european" (standard here(NL)) are amazing. the are really easy to install, allow access to everything under the cabinet, while also prevent possible water damage. Because the legs are sturdy plastic they aren't really effected by any spilled liquid. BTW it is standard practice to anchor the cabinat's to a sollid wall if possible. that goes for the tall- and the "counter-" cabinets. Just to make sure the weight is equally devided, the cabinets can't every topple over or slightly move in the years to come ;)

I'm not one for commenting usually. But as a Carpenter from London I've installed tons of those legs on the base of the carcass. The hole you drilled then put then the leg into is correct but the little pin sticking out on the other side should be gently tapped and then it expands holding it in place if that makes sense.

Man, your kitchen is coming together great! I didn't notice anything strange on potentially missing the toe kicks as I thought the legs were used worldwide (I am from Europe btw). Biggest advantage I see is avoiding any damage from water leaking, for example if you dishwasher would leak imagine the damage to all your cabinets if they would be sitting on the floor. This is btw also the reason you have to be careful with electricity underneath the cabinets.

another tip -- for lower cabinet installation -- use the leveling feet on the fronts of the cabinets but for the backs of the cabinets, run a straight (or jointed) 2x4 horizontally along the wall at 4" or whatever height you're going for with your toe kicks. you set each cabinet on the 2x4, and then to level each you only have to futz around with the 2 front feet, not any rear feet (since the 2x4 takes the place of rear feet). Super simple and avoids hassling with rear feet!

The fact that you put in even a little effort to do something towards the goal and other stuff, is progress in it self, even if it didn't end up being the way you wanted or not getting finished! And "Failure" isn't to be taken as bad thing, but as a lesson to learn from! 1. Primer not only makes a water resistant surface it also makes it clean as drywall mud will make dust. I can never understand why leave it unfinished.
    2. European style walls, European carcasses, sliders, legs. That is so amazing to look from American channel.
    3. You can easily make those plastic legs shorter by cutting the lower part of it. I guess it would be much quicker and cheaper to do.
    4. Can't wait to see the finished kitchen. It already looks really good.

3dprint the levelling feet, you can get exact spec you want and probably save alot of cost.

Almost every project is going to have setbacks. It's how you flex and adapt that shows what kind of craftsman you are. Sorry that things went sideways, but it's looking good so far. In the end it will be a minor niggle in the whole process. Which is lookin' FANTASTIC, by the way! This project is amazing. I'd love to have the chance to live there when you're done. Good work and can't wait to see the end!

In Finland we have this saying "Itse kun tekee, tulee sellaista mitä sattuu tulemaan." That translates to english somewhat "When you do it yourself, you're gonna get what you get."
All the best from Finland and happy holidays! Looking forward to see this kitchen progress!

In my experience of fitting kitchens here in Scotland you can cut the legs down . If the thread on the inside of the tube that gets fixed to the underside of the cabinet gos all the way in you could have trimmed a little of the tube and a little of the part that screws in to adjust the height . This could probable have saved you a whole lot of hassle . I have done this in the past . Looking the business keep up the good work

Oh man I’m so pleased how darn hard your working on this insanely complicated project! It sucks that there was so many knock on effects but your doing awesome work for the first time working this way. And wow it’s like nearly there!
And the art in the workshop looks so great!!!

I learned that if you drill halfway through then switch to the other side and drill the rest you won't get that damage on the panels. Not sure if it applies to "all" drill bits though.

I'd say the main advantage with that style toe kick comes with in case of water leakage. Your cabinets will be safe when they're off the floor.

We all pay the "oops" tax at some point during a project! Been there, done that! I'm just glad it wasn't too terrible and you won't have to wait like 3 months for new doors! Happy Holidays!

Hey mate great work. I had same problem with adjustable feet. I cut them down to allow it work. And it did the trick for me.

That is why we use "mm/cm" instead of the inch/feet thing. It is much easier to read 😁

Another big advantage (if you have an iRobot) is that it can go easily under them and keep the kitchen area clear of crumbs et al.

Cool kitchen can't wait to see the end result. Just a note for the future, you don't really need screws in those Euro legs, just knock the pin in and they expand and grip the hole. Try it and then try pulling one off, you'll see that screws are redundant. Keep up the awesome work and Happy Holidays!

It is soo true that dry wall absorbs smells. Wild party in a house with a newly built wall resulted in a full bottle of Malibu getting spilled on the drywall. Long story, short - it smelt like mouldy alcoholic coconut in that walk in cupboard for 8 years before it eventually went away.

You could have possibly unscrew the bottom part of the plastic leg and trim 10/16". I have done it before. In many of these legs the internal threads are about 1.5 inches long. It's quite possibly that you checked that already. You have good skills. I enjoy all your videos. Keep it up!

Looks really good. Hopefully you learned its much easier, faster and cheaper to modify a bulk head if its only a 1/4 - 3/4 inch than to modify cabinets next time! Not sure if you bolted the island to the floor but you want solid wood or steel between it and the floor, and for it to be fastened to both the floor and the cabinets so they can not tip over or shift, also helps support the weight of the massive counter that will be on it.
