I have been using your advice and services since 2012 when I bought my 1992 Mercedes R129. Thanks to your rebuild cylinder services and your guidance I was able to rebuilt my entire hydraulic system on this car myself. Now I just found out your videos about the w208 hydraulic system which is another MB that I own. I want to say a big THANKS for taking the time to make these videos and instructions that are invaluable helps to both the professionals and car enthusiasts like me. Thank you Klaus
Thank you very much for the kind words. We apologize for this video not being Hollywood quality - the important part was to get as much information across as possible.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Klaus for these FANTASTIC videos. I've owned my CLK for 15 months now and these videos completely illuminate how to fix my soft top.
Thank you sir for these videos. I am a former Benz mechanic and no longer have access to repair info. Wife drives a 2002 CLK and she loves her convertibles. So I gotta keep her running.
Thank you, it is good to know that our videos are appreciated by a former Benz mechanic! As you know, any modern convertible will have trouble with the top hydraulic system sooner or later, so you may as well be prepared to fix it once it happens. None of it is terribly difficult to do, and very rewarding when you think about how much money you saved.
Fantastic video, this is how I bought my CLK 208 cheap as owner thought it was pump when it was leaking exactly that silver cylinder. I opened it up (is not an easy job to open it) and Klaus is absolutely correct it hasn't user serviceable parts inside especially not using O-Rings or A/C seals or stuff as sealing parts are squarish in the cut reminds of seals inside master brake cylinder only different material of course for different oil (fluid) in the each system.
Thank you so much for the educational videos. My 2002 clk5amg top has stopped working for 5 years now. Thank you for taking the time and posted these videos. Hopefully I'll be able to fix the car for my 16 yrs daughter to enjoy her 1st vehicle
Thanks for the videos - solid and thorough work! My trunk unlock button only works when the soft top is down (on my 99 CLK230). The soft top opens perfectly: I continue lifting the soft top button until I hear a beep at the end. Then I can unlock the trunk from inside the car. The soft top also seems to close fine, but there is no beeping sound at the end and the windows down roll up automatically. So I suspect the car thinks the top is not securely closed. I hope you can point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!
Hello Klaus... Have just seen you on TV in England/Britain on Wheeler Dealers with, Mike Brewer... I just Googled Klaus Hydraulics & this UA-cam video popped up... The wonders of modern technology, hey ?.. 😃
I''m glad you found us! We had fun with Mike Brewer's visit, even though Wheeler Dealers' editors took out most of the footage that we thought was great.
Excellent information, thanks! So what would it cost to have you rebuild all the cylinders from my car? I'm in the UK so would need to factor in shipping costs too, unless you can recommend someone here to do the same thing?
Thanks for asking. To rebuild all seven cylinders, we charge $800 plus shipping. We ship to the UK on a daily basis. We ship via FedEx International Priority. Currently, shipping from us to you is $50 and most shipments to the UK arrive within two days. I am not aware of any similar rebuild service in the UK.
Thanks for asking about taxes and shipping cost. We ship to Europe via FedEx International Priority, which is very fast (2-3 days to most locations) and affordable. Unless you are ordering a pump, shipping should be only $50-$55. In many cases, we will pay the VAT/GST/Steuern.
Good morning, I thank you for the video... I have the same Mercedes. But for some time now when I open the hood, I see oil leaking onto the rear hood of the car... And the mechanism no longer works. can you tell me which pump seal I need to replace? Do you have one please? help me please . THANKS
If you have fluid dripping onto the rear hood, I assume that means either the rear of the soft top or the front of the trunk lid. In either case, the immediate leak would be from the rear bow lock cylinder A1298001672 in the rear bow lock A1247700426. Either one is available on the W208 CLK section of our website, see www.tophydraulics.com/23-w208-clk. The next one to leak will be the case cover lock cylinder A1298000072 mounted inside the case cover lock A2087500984. Neither is available from Mercedes any longer, but Top Hydraulics carries them.
Hi, I just bought an a208 and the top was working fine until i dropped it off at the detailers. After picking the car up, I heard a clicking noise from where the windshield meets the softtop, closer to the center reading lights. when i tried opening the roof, the rear bow and the tonneau cover came up, and everything stopped working. i manually opened the roof all the way, hoping to close it the right way, but now nothing works. the button stays red and i cannot hear any motors or electronics. i cannot even manually close the roof, it seems to be stuck inside the trunk. please help. i want to get the roof closed up asap and then get around fixng the softtop. thank you in advance
Congrats on the new ride! The problem appears to be electrical, based on the clicking noise you are describing and the red light being on. For help with the electrical issue, you had best consult a CLK forum, such as mbworld.org. There are many helpful and knowledgeable folks on that forum and you will find it to be a wealth of information for anything related to your car. Meanwhile, to manually close the top, please be sure to have the pressure relief/manual actuation valve at the back of the pump open and the ignition off.
Hello my 2000 clk 2.3 kompressor roof has stopped working, when releasing the handle main windows go down, then I have to manual push button for back small windows and headrest to go down. The back window sometimes releases other times not, the flap no longer pops up and the folding sequence does not start. Button flashes red when pulling up or pushing down. Relay switches and fuses checked and are working. We released the pump pressure and did a manual fold and closing, after locking with 10 mm key we do not have the special one, and pushing the headrest button it at least lock back into closed position. It seems to make a clicking sound when trying to open but that clicking sound stops if we unlock the window manually. The back flap never opens and the folding never attempts to start. any help would be greatly appreciated.
A flashing red button indicates an electrical problem. If the roll bar goes down only when you use the roll bar switch, then I suspect a problem with the top control module (computer) next to the pump. They are susceptible to failure when the battery of the car gets drained a lot or the car gets jump started a lot.
From my 2001 CLK 230 Kompressor the roof stopped, I replaced the pomp, it worked again for about five times. I replaced the convertible module and it worked again, again only about five times. The rear part of the convertible top went up, the lid opened, the rear part of the convertible went down and that was it. Now the top doesn't do anything anymore, only the windows go down. The sensor in the trunk makes a clicking sounds when I press it, so I assume that's working well, I replaced the relais next to the pomp and also the one by the fuses, still nothing. I have no oil leaks, the level is good. Do you have any idea what the problem else can be? I'm going on vacation about two weeks with the car, so I'm not really happy that the top does not work anymore now. :(
Check the power supply to the pump - you could have loose wires near the fuse holder for the pump’s 40A fuse. One way to check power is on pin 87 of the relay pigtail. If there is 12 Volts on pin 87, then bridge pins 30 and 87. The latter should make the pump motor run.

If you own one you understand how well this is explained and how important this is. Thank you so much Klaus and Top hydraulics.

Thank you for these, very helpful
Muchas gracias por su trabajos y por su información desinteresada, tanto aquí como en los foros de Mercedes. Ojalá su negocio estuviera en España.
Thank you sooo much straightforward and super helpful 5 stars!

If when trying to use my drop top I hear the motor working however nothing moves. Where do I look first for that type of problem
Start out by checking the fluid level in the pump, see ua-cam.com/video/ykIBMH6QWgg/v-deo.html
