Similar story with me. I went to college for 2 years, dropped out cuz I hated it and was left with a fat debt. I've been debt free for a few years now but back then, my student loans were my highest monthly expense and prevented me from moving out of my parent's house until I payed it off.
It's something that will take time. Just gotta take it month by month, making sure you're making your payments. It'll take a long time but eventually you won't have it hanging over your head anymore.

Also, all states have public state schools that offer reduced tuition towards people in that state. Said schools also may offer decent merit-based scholarships. In addition all colleges are federally required to offer specific kinds of financial aid for people below certain income levels. The problem is that you have to apply for this stuff, and it’s not widely known.

Even if it works out, the salary isn't necessarily bigger, the job or carrier not fulfilling, there is no progression, or it's just simply unfulfilling. Surely, I would say it's better than crippling debt. But it's still a lot of time, effort wasted, and that hits people emotionally, which disadvantages them even further.

College isn't quite a scam, but it ain't always the best investment either... She saved herself a lot of time and money by not going to college and she should be proud that she didn't need to waste those resources to get to where she is now.
For anyone looking where to go after high school, consider a trade school. They are less expensive AND less time consuming. If you still want to go to college like your peers, go to a community college for your first two years and then transfer to a university. Probably won't save you time but it will save you money.

I couldn't finish college either. Had to stop after 1 year, because of no money. Went to trading school instead. No jobs with that either, economic recession, too many for too little. Started working. Did overworks. Got some money. Did another trading skill. Didn't work out either. I got more money in my previous job. I started working, using my handiness and labor, going towards better paying jobs, doing things mainly with machine operations and production. It's nice. I learned things. Now I'm planning to learn another skill.
I can already make wonderful cakes, code, make websites, and forklift certified. Finds things that make you happy, and places, things, with which you can work. Things you can do. Don't underestimate yourself. If you put in your CV that you are capable, ready to learn and work, handy or able, you already got it. The real world is more about excels, and less about rocket science. Working for yourself is harder, but it is just steps away. Doing it gives you experience, routine, knowledge and that helps in pretty much everything.

For young people (middle/high school age), get good grades even if you don't plan on college. It just opens up the opportunity if you change your mind. Also, why cap the opportunities allowed for y'all? Open as many doors as possible as there's no age where education ends. But it's easiest to get the qualifications in the teens.
In response to Finana, I felt the same. But I really wanted to go; even though it turned out that I didn't really want to in the end. Slow rolled uni and I wasn't saddled with student debt after. We all have our paths to take. Hers is one of many ways to do it.

I would assume that after highschool, maybe her parents would support her to go to college, but I guess not

I don't think going to a college is a very common thing. It's plenty okay to not go to college. Life is big, and I'm happy she found a good part in it, that makes her happy.

I think, people should go to college, out of love for a profession, already with money and some life experience, and not from public education to "get a job". It's very much undervaluing the quality of the education and the purpose of it.

Not being able to attend college even if you wanted to because it's expensive sucks. From where I'm from a lot of Universities are actually free or the tuition is cheap (except if you want to go to a fancy one). Our town even gives scholarship to everyone as long as you prove that you're from there but since a lot of the schools have cheap or free tuition anyways that scholarship just basically becomes our pocket money.

um, why didn't you ask/apply for financial aid?

    • @sejama6625
      @sejama6625 3 роки тому +8

Financial aid still requires decent grades...so if Finana can't balance that, it'll still be a wasted investment.

The quota for scholarship is limited and only few got them. There is student loan, but I heard it was nightmare to pay it back. It is common story that some people cant go to college like her.

@@sejama6625 or nessarily depends on the grant but at least in the us you have to be at least half time and some of the better ones of grade requirements.

Even if she wanted aid, her parents probably made enough income that they can support her and then she would probably be rejected for that aid but just speculating
