    Thank you for explaning the reason you look for high casein content and how it affects the products you make! That makes so much sense. The kitties were so funny while you were milking Stormy - I could hear Cheddar purring in my headphones. LOL

    Margie's Casein results bodes well for our four! We might test them in the future, but Mayhem and Boba have been great. Can' wait to see how Tallulah and Hollie's udders look and how much they produce.

    Pretty cool to find out their casein types and learn what it can mean for their milk and how the milk's casein content levels impact things like cheese or even digestability of milk. Hoping for many awesome milk does coming out of Feral in the spring! Will be cool to find out Nef and Mooche's too just to know how breed pairings could potentially turn out. 💚🎁💚

    How exciting! More cheese! I milk a cow 2 days a week and buy milk from another farmer . I had noticed when I make cheese from both their milk the milk I buy makes way more cheese and now I know why!

    I am sure enjoying your daily videos. I wasn't around last year for these.
    That's pretty exciting test results! Do you happen to know if they test the A2/A2 milk vial milk or hair sample? I'd like to test my cow and heifer.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  5 днів тому +2

      The hair test doesn't test for subvarients of the A protein, I'm not sure how it works for cows!

    A common saying among people in my generation surprisingly is someone who is a good-for-nothing 'isn't worth the teats on a boar hog'. But like you talk about you're on your male goat, if you are wanting to keep some of your pigs for sows, you really want their daddy to have enough, evenly spaced teats, so he can pass that down to his daughters. So it's kind of the same thing.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  4 дні тому +1

      Yes! It's really cool how genetics work and how sires can pass down traits that are very much beneficial for the females to have!

    What is that concoction you were sipping on? Do you do anything for the sores on Ferals head? I know that is typical for bucks heads to look similar to that. I usually see 3 cats in your videos but I think I saw the other one in the last video. Is that Colby?❤

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  5 днів тому +2

      Yes my daughter was holding Colby! For now I'm just watching Feral's head. I will spray on chlorhexidine if it looks like it's getting infected. My coffee has brown sugar, goats milk, and a mushroom focus blend in it by the honeystead :)

    It's great to know the results. Are milk allergies the same as being lactose intolerant?
    I want to get our 2 dogs' DNA done, just out of curiosity. I don't know how accurate they are, but they are kind of expensive to have done.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  4 дні тому +2

      From what I understand lactose intolerance is intolerance to milk sugar, and milk allergies are a histamine response to the proteins in the milk.

  • @BecomingaGreenstalker

    I noticed they use milk from the quart jar in your coffee. Why in some states can’t you buy milk that comes directly from the cow or from a goat and use it? I know in New Jersey. You can’t get it. Do you know the reason? I just love cheddar he is so funny!❤

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  5 днів тому +4

      In Most US states raw milk is illegal to sell! You can sometimes get around this by using herd shares, where you technically own part of the goat or cow and you pay someone to care for and milk the animal.

    • @BecomingaGreenstalker
      @BecomingaGreenstalker 5 днів тому +1

      @ that’s very interesting, but do you know why it’s illegal?

    • @vixxcottage
      @vixxcottage 5 днів тому

      @BecomingaGreenstalker the health department is horrified when raw milk is mentioned. Many years ago cows were kept in unsanitary conditions in cities and only fed the cast offs from whiskey making. This created contaminated milk and people were sick. That is when pasteurization of milk began and people were told raw milk was bad. This started the raw milk being vilified.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  5 днів тому +2

      @@BecomingaGreenstalker the government wants dairy regulated because they are worried about public health risks of raw milk. When milk is not handled properly (raw or not) it can and does grow some gross pathogens. It's a public health concern in their eyes but really, people buy raw chicken and are trusted to cook it well. We should have the same feeling about raw milk imo.

    • @BecomingaGreenstalker
      @BecomingaGreenstalker 5 днів тому

      @ I’m inclined to agree. To each his own. Thanks. I was really just curious. I can’t have dairy either but always good to know the info!

      The hair has worn off and he's got a raw spot from sparring with the other boys. Nefarious has it too he's just darker so less noticeable. It's from them fighting without horns. Very normal for rut season and no signs of infection :)

      Hi there! We don't make regular sales of anything from our farm since we use it all up within our own family's needs, I really appreciate the sentiment though and there is a small sheep dairy locally that does sell their cheeses at Oak Ridge Country store in Cadiz!

    Don’t the babies need that milk? Milk is baby food.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  5 днів тому +2

      Humans have been farming dairy animals for ages. The wonderful thing about dairy animals of today is they have been specifically bred by humans to produce milk far beyond the needs of the babies and we are able to collect that milk for ourselves. The babies are old enough to be weaned, and will grow out very well on pasture and grain until they are ready for freezer camp as intended by me, the breeder and farmer.
