Fantastic video, and the mixing on the intro music was perfect. Well done! I never really gave much thought to Cait before this, so thank you for pointing all of this out. I'm really hyped for the next season and these videos are helping with that. I'm sure you've got an endless list of topic ideas, but I feel like you'd have a lot of fun with the Castlevania animated series as well.
@@SwogglesFroggles Eyyy glad this video passed the audio vibe check! Going forward I'm gonna try keeping to audio around these levels. In regards to the show Castlevania, I have... opinions. lol
Yeah this. Cait is a Vi supporting character in the most dramatic arc in the show. The fact that the story building doesn't reduce her to just Vi's girl is a testament to the show's writers.
i love that in this show nobody is “someone's girlfriend”, “someone's brother”, every character has its own story and development regardless of their relationships.
@@chiakinanami965 No. The United States is home to nearly 16% of all incarcerated people in the world, despite having only about 4% of the global population. The US imprisons more people than China, who has four times the population of the USA.
fun fact, the dinner party scene in ep 9 is actually a parallel to a mel and ambessa scene in ep 8. in ep 8, mel asked her mom why she banished her to piltover and ambessa responds "because you weakened me! I couldn't endure the look in your eyes whenever I made the decisions, the nesesarry decisions to keep us safe", and then in ep 9, you see cait hesitate to shoot jinx bc vi is literally begging her not to, she knew she couldn't hurt jinx bc she knew what that would do to vi, and thus making vi HER weakness in that moment. I literally just noticed this parallel in my last rewatch and I cant stop thinking about it
That’s such a cool observation! I really think ambessa is going to be a sort of mentor figure to Caitlyn in season two and this definitely supports that idea
Omgg I can see that being one of the reasons Cait and Vi separate, like Ambessa getting so much into Caitlyn's head that she ends up dumping Vi because she's her weakness while hunting Jinx and she can't have that, I will be devastated
Thank you so much for sharing this parallel! Such an interesting observation!!! That line has so many interesting connections to characters and philosophies in the show. On my own most recent watch, it reminded me how different it makes Ambessa from most of the other parental figures in the show. Both Silco and Vander are undone by their daughters over the course of the show. As Silco puts it well, “Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?”. With each of them losing control and power over the lanes when they were weakened by the love and devotion they felt to their daughters. In comparison, Ambessa only gained more power and influence as a result of pushing the “weakness” or Mel’s love away from herself. But as a result, and in contrast to both Vi and Jinx’s relationship with their main parental figures, it is likely that the ignoring of Mel’s “weakness” could lead to her death. As Ambessa once said, “I would set the world ablaze to protect our family”, it may turn out that Mel may die in that fire. With the power and strength gained through the shunning of “weakness”, possibly, not being enough for Ambessa to protect her daughter (I really hope Mel doesn’t die, but it really looks like she might ;-;). Unfortunately, it may be one of the first times we see a child die before the parent has….. (Minus Renni’s son I guess) Gosh, it is such a good line and ties in to so many different things so well! I’m very interested to see where that line takes Ambessa next season!!! (sorry I got lost in the sauce there for a bit, but I appreciate the interesting new perspective on that powerful line very much!!!
I LOVED Caitlyn, just because she wouldn't stop investigating. She was DRIVEN! Even after she was only "slightly blown up" she never stopped. She's my number 2 character for the show.
“Curiosity is the death of ignorance” is something that his me hard im currently in high school and deal with ignorance all the time being queer and when these ignorant people ask curios questions I answer honestly because I hope that they will continue to be curious and learn and that line summaries the hope for my peers
I wish you luck, and hope your school isn't in an intolerant area. Kids are kids, but if adults too are intolerant that's gotta be much worse, I say as someone that'd be accepted by those people. I think it's very strange looking in at the US, with churches that most of the time are very intolerant, "love your neighbor" "but what if they're not the same skin colour as me, or queer". Meanwhile the previously national church here is openly queer accepting, flying rainbow flags at events and all and playing an active role in the LGBTQ community....... From what I can see from my perspective anyways.
elder queer here. *hugs* your hope for your peers is admirable. but if you ever get tired of answering ignorant questions, also remember you're worth so much more than a lesson on someone else's intellectual journey. hang in there, little one.
I was genuinely so interested when you started talking about prison and law that I forgot this was about arcane 💀😭 like fr you explains that so well ✨😭✨
Hey dude, this is an incredibly analyis. Its frustrating that Caitllyn doesn't get as much focus as the other characters. Really excited to see how Caitlyn reacts in season 2.
I'm not gonna lie, throughout that entire final monologue about being curious and asking questions and continuing to learn, I fully expected you to transition into a sponsorship from Skillshare or Curious Archive lol
Maybe the reason no one is talking about Caitlyn is because we are all like Caitlyn, watching everything unfold. She sort of takes the place of the audience in a way. 🤔
caitlyn is the human embodiment of curiosity and pursuit; I cant describe how cathartic it is to watch someone so ambitious and keen for knowledge go about their journey, peel back the onion and not only confront their ignorance but take their first steps at true growth. such a refreshing expansion on 'the detective'
I had a conversation once with someone who had this rather nasty point of view on people who have been failed or forgotten by those in positions of power. It was a lengthy ordeal that took us all the way from disability to mental illness to drug abuse to the american prison system. Now I am not american, the other person was. I grew up poor, im physically disabled and had to damn near kill myself to get any semblance of higher education. Having to fight tooth and nail for even the most basic treatments of respect from people who believe themselves perfectly justified in their treatment of you is one of the most frustrating experiences ive encountered. Being denied jobs because "people like you are a liability" having to fight my teachers across my education for things as simple as bigger font on exam sheets so i can actually read whats in front of me or not having teachers interrogate me like a criminal for leaving the classroom for a few minutes when it said in my student file that im allowed to do so, being in the hospital for weeks just to come back to classmates complaining about how good i have it for getting to go on "vacation"... when i now have heaps of material to catch up on and not a lick of sympathy from the teachers. It boils my blood, but I cant get angry or yell or give up because itll only confirm to those people that i am all those nasty things they think of people like me. I ended up disengaging the discussion because they continued to argue in circles, like i was talking to a brick wall.... but I did rediscover that day that some people just do not have the capacity to even just consider changing their mind. Be it due to pride, insecurity, past trauma or because the other side of the argument makes them feel icky inside. I love that Caitlyn shows how difficult it is to be confronted with your own privileged experiences and ignorance while showing that wallowing in self loathing or digging your heels in the mud isnt the answer. Not everything thats different is evil, and not everyone that struggles deserves it. Asking questions and listening to the answers is what drives humanity forward.
Had no idea. It must be an American/western thing to pressure people to be "educated". I don't like that very much, because they say "education" is great but only some ideas are considered an educated take. Or they act like we are only well educated if you go to college, adopt their ideas, and get in debt. Some people are trying to gate keep or dictate the truth. As if work experience or simply talking to one another isn't just as attainable and arguably better for starting a career or knowing the reality. It doesn't matter to me much that average people are unreliable, so are egotistical teachers. And the cherry on top is the influencers/ UA-cam channels I thought I could look up to are privileged, "kind" people act like they're high education equips them to pretentiously helping us poor average people, saving us from ignorance. Sadly, it's people I thought I could side with like the left wingers that are the most stuck up.
@@ThreadBareHope1234 I don't think it's a uniquely American or western concept but one that's permeated throughout a very many parts of the world. The idea that the good, rich and powerful need to protect the bad, poor, uneducated plebians of the lower class yet don't afford them the bare minimum regardless just to pat their own back for saying some rehearsed lines about how important it is to be altruistic is one as old as time. We just see it more in the west as a consequence of social media. But I agree with you overall. People always think they are smarter or know more than they actually do. This in of itself is fine, it's very normal actually, it only becomes an issue when once presented with supplemental information the person in question clams up and doubles down on their incomplete knowledge. People are prideful, especially those within echochambers and social media is a breeding ground for those, now more than ever before. The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all. Another big issue i noticed around the conversation of lower class/disabled/mentally ill people is that the only ones that get to be seen or have their stories heard are those that worked disproportionately harder than everyone else in their communities. I for one only ever was made to feel like I'm worth the air I breath if I overachieve, if I'm the smartest person in the room, the one with all the answers, the one to fix everything that's wrong. Now, it's not inherently bad to encourage people to grow past their shortcomings but it becomes an issue when I'm made to feel expected to sacrifice my own health for the sake of everyone else with nothing but thinly veiled contempt in return. It's the concept of "the good one". The good cripple who hides their pain so no one feels inconvenienced. The good poor who works three jobs just to not have to ask for help. The good *anyone* that bends and breaks themselves for the sake of everyone else. I've been told to leave my mobility aid at home because it would be "embarrassing" and I thought I'd gone insane.
Brilliant last paragraph about Caitlain, and I'm so sorry you had to ensure difficulties in school cuz of people's ignorance! It's amazing how real this show can feel!
Bless you for this! Caitlyn is so fascinating and so difficult to put into words. Thinking on that in conjunction with your final words, i can't help but wonder if some of the audience doesn't find her intimidating to the point of not liking her? Her character, the who and what she is, pushes a lot of uncomfortable buttons; justice, abuse, anger, compassion, ignorance, privilege. I never tire of her!
So to clarify the queerness of vi and cait- league has a long history of having queer CODED characters and wanting to tell queer stories, but being held back from doing so due to censors since a huge part of their income comes from deeply conservative/homophobic markets- i.e. Korea, China, and Russia. Neeko and K'Sante being canonically gay is something they had to fight for and only happened very recently when it was clear it wouldn't touch the bottom line. Writers have often said that Diana/Leona and Tobias/Graves has always been endgame, but they were not able to properly execute on those pairings largely due to corporate interference. Most infamously, Taliyah was always envisioned as a trans character, but Tencent shut that shit down instantly. The writers have been very careful not to add anything that would fully falsify a trans reading so they could possibly tackle it later down the line when the world is less on fire. It's frustrating to witness as a fan of runeterra- especially given how loud the writers are about the exact situations they're put under on social media. But now that Cait and Vi are printing money, we can possibly start seeing other implied relationships expanded on.
Interesting. I assumed it was something along the lines of RIOT pandering to Chinese/conservative markets, but I am not well-versed enough in League lore, nor the drama surrounding the game, so I didn't want to speak on it as if I was an authority on the subject. From an outsiders perspective (I don't play League) it seemed to me as if the relationship was hinted at frequently, but never confirmed, so I wanted to present it as such. This is very useful information, thank you!
Another fun pairing was that time a writer wrong a story for pulse fire Ekko and Ezriel hinting that they were ex's and then having to say on twitter that they couldn't confirm it because it would put Riot employees in danger in certain countries if they did.
I absolutely loved your essay! Her character immediately resonated with me on all fronts and was disappointed like you to see her mosly analyzed as a love interest. Incredibly excited to see what Season 2 holds for her. I could see her turn to a path of nearly military totalitarism after her hesitation and curiousity cost her so dearly. Making her the counterpart to Heimerdinger who is learning to embrace the chaos of the undercity and challenging her to find her good heart again herself.
Thank you, that means a lot! And yeah, I wanted to use Cait's theme-- it's not too intrusive, and I found it appropriate music for the essay in question.
I rewatched season 1 recently and frankly I vastly overlooked her character the first time to the point I didn't even recognize her and spoilers an couple.
well, shoot. you just made me realize through this video essay that i as a heavy caitlyn kiramman kinnie, would probably aspire to be a cop & pursue that career IF the system wasn't so corrupt. honestly, such a shocking self discovery of mine that i never thought i'd come to without watching this video..that is pretty much an analysis of me LOL for that, thank you. and also - pretty tight video essay!
Actually same. I like the thought of what law enforcement could be - protecting and serving, bringing things to justice. I used to want to be that when I was younger. However, in reality, the very system our current police orders work on are deeply flawed, discriminatory, and just...not able to fulfill those core values. People can say "fix it from the inside" but that's not as viable as they think. Especially considering the structure itself is ALSO resistant to change thanks to those in TRUE power. The only times corruption in these places are ever brought to justice is because they made the mistake of being caught so very publicly that the normal people can't ignore it or mistake it for something else. It's a shame. ):
We've used his music in several of our videos now! He's an amazing composer and I can't be grateful enough that he releases this music under Creative Commons so people like us who can't afford music licensing fees get to use good music in our work.
I cant wait for her arc. It just started and i wont tolerate slander. Idk why people gate her, she has a good heart and works for what thinks its right.
I think our "Cupcake" is the best at saying and going for what she wants. She's very straightforward. Other characters are more subtle or conflicted, but Katlin is easy to decifer so she hasn't required as much analysis. I think she's equally loved to other characters who get more analysis videos.
Thank you for this!! Caitlyn is one of my favorites as well and as much as I love Caitvi, she's definitely more than just a love interest. She's incredibly overlooked as a character. Your analyses are also thoughts I've had and it frustrates me they often go ignored or unnoticed. Caitlyn has a BRILLIANT, observant mind. For one, if not for her piecing things together as she does the rest of the plot doesn't happen as Vi would still be imprisoned. A lot of other fans are quick to hate on her because she's privileged and an enforcer (or cause Jinx hates her🙄), but as you said, she has the most character growth through s1. After all she's seen, she could easily throw her hands up and just concede to ostrich syndrome as a lot of topsiders do, but she doesn't. She doubles down on her convictions that shit's sus and actively WANTS to help make things better for the people of the under city and suss out the corruption. Cait IS privileged, she does come from wealth. As a child she is sheltered from the "real world" through no fault of her own as she is brought up with privilage and ignorance instilled on her. However, she chooses to not let that completely define her even if that means defying her mother's opinion of what Cassandra sees as things not befitting of her station. Seeing others trying to control Cait's autonomy (with maybe the exception of Grayson whom I'd love to know more about in regards to her influences on young Cait) is infuriating and that's how she was likely raised, so for her to grow up and become an enforcer knowing her mother will disapprove and investigating the great conspiracy knowing Marcus would rather she stay in line speaks volumes for her character. Also her becoming self aware of her privileges along the way during her journey with Vi and checking them is also great character evolution. Sorry. Long-winded! There are few characters I've been this invested in and that's indicative of the show's writing. They make watchers actually care about their characters and their depth and why I love Arcane. Tl;dr I 100% agree with this analysis and it's one of the best Caitlyn videos I've seen anywhere
I love Caitlyn, this is such a wonderful discussion of her character. I enjoyed the humor as well as how you guys highlighted the inhumanity of the American Criminal Justice system. Great work!
Love this! I too have a lot of thoughts about Caitlyn's character and arc, especially as we get close to season 2 lol Like how the first thing Caitlyn learned about being an Enforcer was that it meant protecting people and being of service to the city. That is what a person in that uniform should be shooting for. And in that final scene she had a chance to prevent the bombing and potentially the war, but she failed to do so because of her desire not to hurt Vi by shooting her sister I could definitely see her taking that lesson to heart in season 2. That her first and only priority should be protecting the citizens of Piltover from further destruction, specifically by never hesitating to take the shot again. By doing the hard and unpleasant thing, making what someone like Ambessa would describe as “the necessary decisions to keep us safe.” By keeping topside and the undercity from hurting each other, whether they like her means of doing so or not And I could see her deciding that things like empathy and personal feelings are only holding her back, so she needs to bury them deep inside (or ship them halfway across the continent like a Medarda). Which will be tragic to watch, given how empathetic she actually is, so you know it's just going to be boiling over inside and tearing her apart with guilt even as she's fighting tooth and nail not to let that kind of weakness show Until, presumably, there's a moment where it becomes too much and she realizes she's gone too far and is hurting people more than she's helping. And she finally remembers that what this city needs is healing
I think this is a very good theory as to where Caitlyn's story will be going next. I would be surprised if Caitlyn didn't have a dark streak followed by a realization that what she is doing is wrong. I imagine witnessing Ambessa be so brutal in how she carries out justice might push Caitlyn to that realization. Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@HedgehogEditor I am specifically hoping for a scene that parallels Mel's flashback from season 1, where Ambessa and Caitlyn have defeated Jinx and have her at their mercy. Caitlyn wants to send her to prison, but Ambessa just wants to kill another "symbol of the old regime" But this time someone steps in to stop her, maybe even Caitlyn herself, and saves Jinx's life, marking a very interesting turning point for all three characters
@@aranthur There is that shot where Ambessa is clearly killing a bunch of Piltover's Enforcers. That very well could be that moment. We'll all find out in November!
Incredible analysis. You're right that it's so unfortunate much of the discourse about Caitlyn has been solely about her relationship. Her character in S1 does take a backseat when compared to Vi and Jinx, but doesn't make hers any less compelling even with what we've gotten from her so far. I love the little tangent about the prison segment because that grounds analysis better by drawing real world parallels. When S2 rolls around she would be taking a much greater role and I can't wait to hear what you've got to say about that as well! Also side note, love how you highlighted the importance of her being mixed race, being a big win for Asians. In the game it's only been alluded in certain splash arts, cinematics, and skins (but then it could be argued that it was just the artist's rendition) so it really wasn't until Arcane that they made it clear once and for all (her ASU/game update at the time of Arcane's release and subsequent skins made sure to follow what Arcane helped set).
Thank you so much for this! I've loved Caitlyn from the get go, and it's nice to see more in-depth admiration for her character and her growth. I can't wait to see how she unfolds in the new season!
Animated or live action, film or series, there is _NOTHING_ else that even _begins_ to comapre to the absolute MASTERPIECE that is Arcane. Full Stop. :)
I'm very passionate about the topic of incarceration and how it's a flawed system designed to mass-produce convicts, who inevitably become repeat offenders because of their past convictions. Prisons are a business, not a rehabilitative institution.
One of the things I think is cool with Caitlyn is that her poses, mannerisms, gestures, etc. mirror her parents. When she's making snide comments about the undercity, she sounds just like her mother and she's animated just like her mother. When she's tending Vi's wounds, she's animated the same way as her father tending to her wounds. So despite her clashes with her parents, it's clear that they are a part of her, and they are a reserve of strength she often calls on.
Schnee does a great analysis of Caitlyn and how she is a direct honest person that doesn’t fit in with top side, because that’s an under city quality (she’s a misfit too). She was a really well written character, but the entire script is pretty masterful, we just needed more Ekko and Powder scenes to build on their conflict on the bridge.
❤ Thank you for this thoughtful and well done video. As a black woman living in the US I occasionally relate to Vi as the poor kid or Jinx, as the one who, “will show them all…”, but my current life makes Caitlyn my most relatable Arcane character. Curiosity and a desire to know what is truly going on in the world despite being discouraged to do so because everything one could ever want is right here, is so unsatisfying. And even thought there is good that I can do right here, I know there are other experiences and perspectives abroad and I’m under no allusion that there is nothing for me the learn as I travel. I don’t want to be afraid to engage with people whom I know consider me to be to privileged because of where I was born and can help me to appreciate it and guide me to do better.
As a queer, mixed race person, I too feel a kinship with Caitlin. Love the representation, it’s so rare to see in media to the point that it makes me really happy any time I see it
Thank you for this incredible analysis video! I was just talking about the lack of Caitlyn analysis videos on here today!! :0 She's been so overlooked in season 1 and with the way the fandom is losing their minds over her arc in season 2 (without us even getting much information at all from the teasers so far) I'm wondering if a part of it was on purpose by the writers. Just make it so that people underestimate her character and then in season 2 she'll be an even bigger deal, a heavy hitter and plot driver more so than they'd imagined. Maybe I'm just losing my mind too haha but I can't wait to see what she does in the next season and how she finally becomes the sheriff and comes into her own.
I really appreciate you talking about the injustice in the prison systems while also still being on topic. Arcane's writing is awesome, and more videos NEED to be made about Cait.👏👏
This is genuinely the best Caitlyn analysis video I have ever seen. How you formatted and worded everything left me in awe the whole time I watched it. I could not stop smiling. I would love to see another video of yours dissecting her character arc in season two if that's something you'd be willing to do! I'm glad that more people are growing to appreciate my favorite character more, thank you so much for this video.
I just wanted to say, thank you so much for making that video ! Caitlyn is, to me, one of the best characters of the show (she might be my favorite) and it's really disappointing to see how underrated she is... Hope this changes with season 2 coming soon :) So thanks a lot, plus your video is very interesting and I agree with pretty much everything you say, we all need to be more curious and opened to our world.
Dang, this was a great character breakdown! Makes me appreciate Cait even more, definitely an underrated character! Will for sure be sharing this video to friends! :)
Man this was such a great breakdown. I didn't even pick up on this characterization and it is brilliant. Thanks for bringing it to light to the plebs like me.
oh how glad i am to finally find video-essays on caitlyn!! i really like this one and the one done by "shaped by stories". the deep dive into cait's character is lovely
Oh this is GOOD! Really hoping Caitlyn will get a lot more discussion after s2 and I've subbed so I can see what you have to say about where the story takes her character.
I'm not gonna lie, my papers in college were awful lol. I was more focused on learning about filmmaking and spent less time worrying about proper essay structure. Wasn't until I started really practicing writing videos that the importance of good research and strong structure really came together for me. As an example, this video? I started writing it back in January 2024. Only finished recording the audio back in August. So about 7 and a half months for this one script. Of course, I didn't work on it non-stop, I had other projects to work on, but I would check in on it constantly and try to improve it here and there. Good essays take practice and I have a lot to learn. Thank you for your lovely comment!
The truth is she really took a backseat in season 1. Vi took her for most of the ride becuase she didnt know shit about the undercity. I wanted more scenes of her doing detective work becuase everytime we saw her replaying a scene in her head or interrogating people i was Genuinely invested. But then again those scenes were too few and far in between. Ekko had a similar/less amount of screentime yet they put more focus on him, they even changed the intro for him! Its just there were not many "crimes" for caitlyn to crack down on wich i think is going to be the opposite in season 2...if there is a cat and mouse game between her and jinx i just pray it shows us more sherrif caitlyn.
I agree with this statement-- Caitlyn, Ekko, and Viktor were secondary characters to Vi, Jinx, and Jayce. It would be awesome to see them get more screentime in Season 2, which seems likely.
Actually she had more than double the amount of screentime Ekko did, only less than 15 min from Jayce and also less than 30 min from Jinx. It's just there's not much to work with her, at least not yet.
LOL i died in that scene in the brothal where it's written "they seem to be very good friends" 🤣🤣🤣 Vi is a fucking hot kick ass character buuuuut I'm sooooo in for Caitlyn. Like everything you have mentioned about her in this vid...I totalllyyyy agree. Love Caitlyn!!!!!
Thank you for this video, I agree with everything you said and honestly the fandom belittles and underestimates many characters because of ships, I understand that it's fun and all but let's be honest that's not all we're being fed. I'm looking forward to seeing her arc in the second season, which by the looks of it, will have a very important role!
Absolutely wonderful analysis. I love it when media makes me question the way I see the world or even deal with my own personal problems, and your video made me go even deeper. Congrats and thank you for the amazing work 🙏
Awesome video about an awesome character! So many great characters in this show some do feel like they dont get as much of the spotlight as they deserve
Shes my very favorite and I only care abt her most times which probably makes my viewing of other characters limited, but DUDE shes so cool. Ik the lack of Caitlyn thay we're seeing in the advertising for season 2 is probably because she plays such a large part ot thay entire season but it still urks me. And ngl im VERY glad that Caitlyn and Vi may "split" for a little bit and then come back to together simply because I need everyone else to see her as her own character seperate from her relationship with Vi. I seem to like characters that are dumbed down to their partners for some reason. My other fav is literally Ymir from attack on Titan, and no one talked abt her without talking about Historia
Caitlin's character goes through an arc. She starts out as a bright eyed conservative law abiding citizen but later on learns you can't always be by the book in a messy gray world. Caitlin is one of the characters who has to change her lawful good nature to one that has to acommodate shades of grey. and without Caitlin, Vi might have turned fully evil.
Also important to add how VITAL it is for people with influence, like Caitlyn, to learn about the real world and become the change. It is undeniable that changes are faster when people with power take the initiative. It is so hopeful to see Cait, a clearly hiper privileged kid, to be this interested in justice and peace for EVERYONE, specially coming from such a corrupt environment.
Fantastic job! It’s so nice seeing someone Get It Right with Caitlyn’s character. She’s my favourite so it’s honestly been so disheartening seeing all the wrong takes on her, reducing her character, or just writing her off completely. But you got all her traits and flaws that make me love her so spot on. Kudos!
Hooooo boy, an Ekko video? I'd really love to, but I don't think I have time before the new season releases! I also don't have something to say about Ekko at the moment-- when it comes to Arcane, there's a million things to talk about, but not that many that I feel would bring something new to the table. This video took me months to write up and finish. I don't even have an Ekko script drafted. One of the reasons I talk about multiple characters in my Arcane vids is because I probably won't do a full video on all of them. Characters like Vi, Jinx, Jayce, Heimerdinger, Singed, etc. are all awesome, but they've also been spotlighted by other UA-camrs where I feel like I have nothing new to say about them. That being said, I'd love to do a video on Ekko someday. (After S2 maybe? It seems like he's gonna get a lot more screentime) I DO plan on doing a video on Mel Medarda at some point-- she's one of my favourite characters. Thank you for your lovely comment!
thanks so much for making this video man.... we need this... also i just know ill need something to come back to if season 2 caitlyn is gnna go full villain arc

I like it when I'm baited with media litteracy of a game, show or book, to being utterly educated about world news and current social problems.
other countrys have way worse justice systems bruv
I really think ambessa is going to be a sort of mentor figure to Caitlyn in season two and this definitely supports that idea
yuuuup. which is going to be a huge reason for their splitting up (hopefully temporary, sobs)
oh my god this is so brilliant its craaazzyyyyy
I was genuinely so interested when you started talking about prison and law that I forgot this was about arcane 💀😭 like fr you explains that so well ✨😭✨
A lot of research went into that section. I'm very passionate about incarceration and criminalization, so I'm glad it rang true!
@@HedgehogEditor IT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE but easy to understandd 🙏
@@Pinkywinkykinky I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hey dude, this is an incredibly analyis. Its frustrating that Caitllyn doesn't get as much focus as the other characters. Really excited to see how Caitlyn reacts in season 2.
I'm glad you liked it!
I'm just so intrigued, i can't wait to see how her story will unfold
I hadn’t realized how much I was dismissing Caitlin’s POV during the tea party, good points.
I'm not gonna lie, throughout that entire final monologue about being curious and asking questions and continuing to learn, I fully expected you to transition into a sponsorship from Skillshare or Curious Archive lol
Lol That would've been funny, huh?
oh my god FINALLY someone is talking about my girl, thank you!
i can only hope she gets even more chances to shine in season 2
I'm definitely not the first to make a breakdown of Caitlyn! I linked some other useful Caitlyn essays in the description of the video.
the fact that the first line each character has is related to their lore, after watching so many video essays I had never saw that, it blew my mind
Maybe the reason no one is talking about Caitlyn is because we are all like Caitlyn, watching everything unfold. She sort of takes the place of the audience in a way. 🤔
So THATS why I love her
caitlyn is the human embodiment of curiosity and pursuit; I cant describe how cathartic it is to watch someone so ambitious and keen for knowledge go about their journey, peel back the onion and not only confront their ignorance but take their first steps at true growth. such a refreshing expansion on 'the detective'
This actually made me feel.
It's amazing how real this show can feel!
caitlyn and the straight joke was brilliant, it works on 2 different levels. 😂😂
Caitlyn is my FAVORITE arcane character, absolutely love her thank you for this video!
In lore, Cait is a detective before she's a police officer, so I'm really hoping we'll get to see more investigating from her in Season 2
this is the best caitlyn video ive seen!!! thank you for this!!!
also love the addition of her theme playing in the background
Thank you, that means a lot! And yeah, I wanted to use Cait's theme-- it's not too intrusive, and I found it appropriate music for the essay in question.
I rewatched season 1 recently and frankly I vastly overlooked her character the first time to the point I didn't even recognize her and spoilers an couple.
Truly she is so underrated
well, shoot. you just made me realize through this video essay that i as a heavy caitlyn kiramman kinnie, would probably aspire to be a cop & pursue that career IF the system wasn't so corrupt. honestly, such a shocking self discovery of mine that i never thought i'd come to without watching this video..that is pretty much an analysis of me LOL
for that, thank you. and also - pretty tight video essay!
It's a shame. ):
I was very pleased to hear Scott Buckley as the background music for this (incredible) video!
We've used his music in several of our videos now! He's an amazing composer and I can't be grateful enough that he releases this music under Creative Commons so people like us who can't afford music licensing fees get to use good music in our work.
So happy to see my girl finally getting some recognition!
Yeah, this character is do damn underappreciated! She totally deserves more love❤
You took all the words out of my mouth - this is FANTASTIC - I absolutely adore Caitlyn
I love Caitlyn, this is such a wonderful discussion of her character. I enjoyed the humor as well as how you guys highlighted the inhumanity of the American Criminal Justice system. Great work!
Didn’t start my favorite character. Thought she was pretty boring. Video essays like these helped me grow in appreciation
That's honestly the biggest praise you can give me. I'm glad I was able to illuminate!
cat appreciation, cute hedgehog icon, AND a deep understanding of the ways of corruption? you earned a subscribe ❤
Love this! I too have a lot of thoughts about Caitlyn's character and arc, especially as we get close to season 2 lol
Like how the first thing Caitlyn learned about being an Enforcer was that it meant protecting people and being of service to the city. That is what a person in that uniform should be shooting for. And in that final scene she had a chance to prevent the bombing and potentially the war, but she failed to do so because of her desire not to hurt Vi by shooting her sister
I could definitely see her taking that lesson to heart in season 2. That her first and only priority should be protecting the citizens of Piltover from further destruction, specifically by never hesitating to take the shot again. By doing the hard and unpleasant thing, making what someone like Ambessa would describe as “the necessary decisions to keep us safe.” By keeping topside and the undercity from hurting each other, whether they like her means of doing so or not
And I could see her deciding that things like empathy and personal feelings are only holding her back, so she needs to bury them deep inside (or ship them halfway across the continent like a Medarda). Which will be tragic to watch, given how empathetic she actually is, so you know it's just going to be boiling over inside and tearing her apart with guilt even as she's fighting tooth and nail not to let that kind of weakness show
Until, presumably, there's a moment where it becomes too much and she realizes she's gone too far and is hurting people more than she's helping. And she finally remembers that what this city needs is healing
That's a pretty good reading of the text, dude. 🎉
Caitlyn wants to send her to prison, but Ambessa just wants to kill another "symbol of the old regime"
But this time someone steps in to stop her, maybe even Caitlyn herself, and saves Jinx's life, marking a very interesting turning point for all three characters
@@aranthur There is that shot where Ambessa is clearly killing a bunch of Piltover's Enforcers. That very well could be that moment. We'll all find out in November!
damn this is a GOOD video essay, i never realised how ignored caitlyn was by the fandom
11:23 I too agree older Vi's entrance is awesome and underrated.
Thanks, I also felt this character was heavily overlooked especially for how relevant is to the overall plot
Thank you so much for this! I've loved Caitlyn from the get go, and it's nice to see more in-depth admiration for her character and her growth. I can't wait to see how she unfolds in the new season!
I'm glad you made a video on Caitlyn. She's fantastic.
She was and still is my favorite character from the show! So glad someone recognizes why she’s so interesting 😊
Animated or live action, film or series, there is _NOTHING_ else that even _begins_ to comapre to the absolute MASTERPIECE that is Arcane. Full Stop. :)
I had too re read the title when you started talking about prison law 😭
I'm very passionate about the topic of incarceration and how it's a flawed system designed to mass-produce convicts, who inevitably become repeat offenders because of their past convictions. Prisons are a business, not a rehabilitative institution.
Great video!!
Idle scree really just sat down, and decided to produce an abseloute masterpiece of an analysis.
It's what we do!
Yeah I agree, CAITLYN is my fav. character too!
20:17 And she’s an only child with no siblings.
Great video dude!
Can’t wait for arcane season 2!
She’s my favorite and she’s so underrated.
I really appreciate you talking about the injustice in the prison systems while also still being on topic.
Arcane's writing is awesome, and more videos NEED to be made about Cait.👏👏
Season 1 was about Jinx & Vi. But I believe Caitlyn & Viktor will shine in Season 2.
One can only hope
as someone whose favourite character is caitlyn, finally some good fucking food. thank you for making this.
We're glad you enjoyed!
Ohhhhh dangggg I can't tell you how excited I am for this one, she's my Arcane fave!!
People will talk about her for S2. For sure.
If Season 2 is as good as Season 1 is, then I will certainly be revisiting Caitlyn!
I just wanted to say, thank you so much for making that video ! Caitlyn is, to me, one of the best characters of the show (she might be my favorite) and it's really disappointing to see how underrated she is... Hope this changes with season 2 coming soon :)
So thanks a lot, plus your video is very interesting and I agree with pretty much everything you say, we all need to be more curious and opened to our world.
OH
OH OH OH
I just had an epiphany
Cait’s gonna kill Sevika! I’M CALLING IT NOW
Omfg true
Dang, this was a great character breakdown! Makes me appreciate Cait even more, definitely an underrated character! Will for sure be sharing this video to friends! :)
just wait till season two drops. soon enough we'll be getting endless 'caitlyns decent to madness explained' videos
Didn't expect such an amazing analysis! With only 8k view??
Man this was such a great breakdown. I didn't even pick up on this characterization and it is brilliant. Thanks for bringing it to light to the plebs like me.
Very well made video. Caitlyn definitely needs more attention and shes gonna get it in season 2. I cant wait.
oh how glad i am to finally find video-essays on caitlyn!! i really like this one and the one done by "shaped by stories". the deep dive into cait's character is lovely
Oh this is GOOD! Really hoping Caitlyn will get a lot more discussion after s2 and I've subbed so I can see what you have to say about where the story takes her character.
I LOVE HER SO MUCH, SHE KINDA REMINDS ME OF CLARICE FROM SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
you are so articulate and structured this video so well. i immediately subbed. i bet your research study/essays EAT 🙏
Thanks for this video! Caitlyn GOAT
Caitlyn appreciation, writing analysis, AND commentary on the justice system? This video has everything I could want.
Caitlyn is my favourite character for sure. So many cool characters. Bigger, punchier characters. But as you said, Caitlyn drives this story so well.
I really enjoyed this analysis. It’ll be interesting to watch/listen to your predictions about the future development of Cait’s character in S2!
Glad the last portion of the video wasn't a sponsorship transition, I honestly got a little worried.
This is genuinely amazing and more than just an arcane video, extremely underrated man, please keep this up!
I paused mid video because of the hellsing abridged clip lmao I love that. Also agreed, more people need to talk about Caitlyn.
I quote Hellsing Abridged quite frequently irl. It's truly peak comedy.
@@HedgehogEditor it really is
Thank you for your video!❤💙Caitlyn's been my fav Caracter in Arcane. Love her like hell
Thank you for watching!
Absolutely wonderful analysis. I love it when media makes me question the way I see the world or even deal with my own personal problems, and your video made me go even deeper. Congrats and thank you for the amazing work 🙏
brilliant analysis, made me appreciate caitlyn's character when i never gave her much thought
Preach. Possibly the character I love the most (they're all so incredible).
YES YES thank you so much for this video it's great! Caitlyn is my favourite character in the show, I'm so glad to see her getting some love
Kudos!
I loved this thank you!! Could you do Ekko next? I feel like I don't know him very well since he barely appears on the show :(
Hooooo boy, an Ekko video?
Thank you for this!
idk why nobody is talking about her, i’ve been talking about her for 3 years 😭 she’s such an amazingly written character
From what I've heard about season 2 People are definitely gonna talk about her
Good or bad you just gonna have to wait and see
I certainly hope so!
One of my fav videos on Arcane so far :) Commenting to get you more viz!

This was sucha great analysis!!! Caitlyn is my fave character from arcane! I know I'm gonna have a hard time in season 2 but I love how complex she is.
What a great conclusion. Massive props, this was a great watch!
I'm glad you enjoyed!
That's for the great video! I love the deep dives on Caitlyn
