Oh my gosh! Love your fabrics. I always get a couple cat dresses donated and they’re just the cutest. I can’t wait to see your roosters in a dress. ❤ elastic in the dresses is ok. There’s lots of fun sundresses and peasant dresses that use it and they’re so easy to make 😊 great video
Have fun at Frocktails! yes, I try to make 3-5 dresses a year. It's fun. I can't believe how much I sweat choosing the fabric and pocket style, though! 😂
I’m participating for the first time this year. I’m using Alyssa’s (Thoughtful Creativity) pattern. It’s so cute and I love how the pockets are incorporated into the side panels.
Many thanks Janine, really helpful video. Loved the fabrics you have picked out. It will be the first time I have participated & am looking forward to getting started. Many thanks Ali 😊
Project Dress a Girl is a worth my time. I had learned from Mari sews couple years ago and I iplan on making as many dresses as I can, I bought labels from Mari. Thank you for sharing Janine. It is a fun project.
I just received big box of cotton fabrics from a friend whose late mother was an excellent seamstress. There were also a few girl's dress patterns. This September project couldn't have happened at a better time. I am happy to sew up some dresses for girls with beloved fabrics from my friend. I'm glad you mentioned the elastic before I cut out a dress requiring it. Maybe just put a drawstring in to casing instead?
Sandra, I misspoke when I said that elastic wasn't permitted so that opens up a lot of possibilities! How fortunate that your friend shared her late mother's stash with you! I'm sure her mother would be pleased to know that someone is loving and using the fabric.
Last year Mari donated dresses to Ukranian refugees. Many have come here with nothing.😢 the ambassador on the east coast is sending dresses to Ukraine this year so I'm planning to use denim and corduroy and patterns with sleeves.
Last year I used M7221 to make a dress for this. It is a night wear pattern and worked out perfectly. The yoke and heart shaped pockets made colour blocking easy and fun. It has no fastenings and can be made with an extra ruffle or not, with short sleeves or long.
Janine, when do the dresses need to be completed? I came upon your video just now. Do I have to wait till next September? ….. (it’ll give me time to make a few). Do they accept dresses throughout the year? Thank you, I’m in Calgary.
Anne, I received an email from @PraticalStitches the other day and she is collecting dresses. If you would like to send me an email, I can connect you with her, and also send you a few labels. My email address is lifeofjanine@gmail.com
Oh, dear. I bought a McCalls pattern like another UA-camr showed she’s been making, but it has elastic at the neckline. 😮 I wasn’t aware of that requirement. Time to regroup!
Here are links to a couple of free dresses that are available for download. You could also check with local charity shops as often have patterns for a dollar or so, and sometimes that's easier that printing and taping. I'm trying to find an ambassador here in Pennsylvania USA. With no luck, I've contacted a person (no help). I also want to purchase the labels but it is only saying PayPal. I don't use that anymore. Please help. Very informative video BTW.
You can use any dress pattern for girls aged infancy to 12. In one of the previous comments I posted a few free downloadable patterns. I wound up buying a pattern - Simplicity 9280. It has a bit of a sleeve and a gathered waist. simplicity.com/simplicity/s9280 (Simplicity patterns aren't generally sold in Canada but this one was sold in Michael's) McCalls 7739 is cute with big ruffles simplicity.com/mccalls/pdm7739

Hello from Edmonton! I. will hopefully be able to make a dress! Thanks
Hi Mary! Hope you're able to join in!
I’ve made 4 dresses so far.
Last year I used M7221 to make a dress for this. It is a night wear pattern and worked out perfectly. The yoke and heart shaped pockets made colour blocking easy and fun. It has no fastenings and can be made with an extra ruffle or not, with short sleeves or long.
Nancy, that dress pattern is just precious! What a great find.
Have made 5 dresses that will be off to my ambassador this week. I’ll be making more this month.
Five dresses?! 👏 👏 👏 👏 Well done!

@@brendalindsay5419 Thank you!
Thank you Belinda! I’ll add a note so everyone knows I misspoke 💕
When I Google “Project Dress a Girl” I get linked to “Dress a Girl Around the World.” Is this the same organization?
They’re affiliated but Project Dress a Girl has slightly different (loosened so easier to follow) requirements.
