There are really 2 different environments. I tried Unity, and although I had some .NET background I got overwhelmed quickly. On the other hand you can get things working in Construct in a couple of hours. If you want to make an HTML5 2D game you probably better off with Construct anyway, since Unity webgl is very heavy. On the other hand if you are very serious about indie games dev, you will probably have to switch to Unity at some point. However Construct learning curve is very short, so you won't waste much time starting from there.
Wish you would have touched on the subject of lighting. You can't do fancy lighting effects with C3 and that can be a problem depending on the type of game you want to make. Don't forget to let me know what YOU think and feel about this topic! Do you think Unity is superior due to its 3D abilities? Does Construct 3's speed win out? As a teacher, I want to hear from you!
I started with Unity many years ago, but it was way too big for my meager talent and ability at the time. I think I'd do better with it today, now that I've got more experience and "hard knocks" under my belt. When I discovered html5 and webgl, I drifted away from Unity and entered a whole new world of game development that included Hippani (Hippo Animator), Construct 2 (now 3), Playcanvas and Babylonjs. Even though Construct 3 is "small" in comparison to Unity, I've found that it's also very flexible. Not only have I discovered ways to make it seem more 3D-ish, but I've leaned to use it in larger projects that involve streaming Vimeo video, Babylonjs 3D walkthroughs, Playcanvas scenes and other content embedded in s. In fact, the treasure hunt game I'm working on now uses Construct 3 as a central framework element that directs the player to all of the other content. What I like most of all is that the player doesn't have to download anything; it just all plays directly on the web pages.
As a game developer myself. Construct 3 is my choice. Its enabled me to make many tutorials on how to use it and I was even able to publish a game to Google play store with adverts within a few weeks of using it ❤👍
Thank you for this review. And for an engaged comment-section! My situation: basic web programming knowledge, and looking to make my first and probably only 2d fighting game- just as a hobby. And will be released as freeware. Is g3, unity or godot best for me?
i think unity is best as there are lot of tutorials but as a gamedev, i suggest you godot as it is simpler btw if u are a teenager use coppercube engine , it has no coding and is very versetile hope it helps u edit:coppercube can only be used to create 3dgames
For now I am still sticking with Construct 2. It does greatly the job and I can really work at high speed with it. A point that was not mentioned is the price of C3 (I would compare it with C2's one too). Construct has also a great way to manage parallax in a very simple way and it can be used to simulate quite well zoom effect with a bit of coding. You can see one example in this template I made: ua-cam.com/video/JgPktsF0ycs/v-deo.html
You can use C2 anytime anywhere and its free (the pirated one) But in C3 subscription is kinda costly And u need to log in once a week for you to be able to work on it in offline mode
Hey, could anyone please tell me where to find solid tutorials for construct 3? not the ones that shout out "game in 10 min", but the ones with explanations of how to program functions, how everything works, what is what. I've created my first game, repeating after one series of tutorial, but in some places I just copied what the guy did and I didnt understand the logic of his actions. Btw construct can be frustrating as well, when something doesnt work and I have no idea why
. And for a 2d game I am pretty confident the development time will be less in C3. However... if you get comfortable with Unity your options will be much wider.
