Hey guys, we're looking into Defensive Flying today! Something you need to put time in to master. Hope it helps you out in some way! And let me know if i missed something ;) Do like, comment and subscribe. It helps me out a lot! Enjoy your day :)
yeah in the 1 vs 4 ot more one needs to have the luck that they come at you in one's and two's ;) not all at once. By diving away and extending Mr M! then climb up slowly again when the seperation is enough.
Jengar could you talk about your keyboard binds? I’m relatively new and I understand the yaw and roll, but did you reassign the pitch binds from page up and page down?
Hi Jengar, nice useful video! I want to ask you if you can, when reviewing planes, to give advice upon which parts to upgrade first, as for some planes the guns are better to have earlier, for others the engine makes the difference. I know that nowadays you can't afford to play stock planes, but I think it'd be great advice for players like myself. Thanks!
Hi Jengar, your tutorials are extremely useful. Last time when I started playing I could barely shoot down one enemy plane and died early even before the match ended, after using 5 planes. But after watching your tutorials, they became a great help and now I'm getting at least 7 kills per match using 3 planes maximum in arcade matches.
Dammit, i figured straight flying with a bunch of small movements to throw of your opponents aim was a good move since you’re less likely to get pilot or gas tank sniped cuz ur a small target, and that sharp turning was suicide since it leaves all the vitals totally exposed (plus i’ve shot down so many planes by shooting them while they were in the middle of turning, took down 5 planes in a short amount of time with a J22-B (or was it a J22-A?) bcuz they kept turning and leaving themselves exposed
hehe, i was contemplating it, but i used my fw 190 clips already, both in normal review and in dogfighting clips ;) and i didnt have time anymore to find new clips, as i planned to make it this weekend ;)
Fantastic. I’ve watched a ton of videos and read a bunch of stuff but nobody has emphasised the camera in this way. Lots of talk about situational awareness and watching your opponent in a dogfight but this is the first time someone has explicitly explained how separating the camera view from the flight vector is how you get this situational awareness. I’m re-learning how to fly now and all the techniques (scissors, hammerhead etc) are just falling into place.
For me is constantly checking your back while executing defensive flying. Your main objective is to waste all their energy while avoiding their gun sight. Best way I do is diving into them than away as this makes aiming for them a lot harder. Pulling maneuvers and using air brakes trying to get on their six o clock is also viable but kinda risky sometimes as it makes you a easier target. For jet is basically don’t fly straight or you eat a missile on your ass
For me, whenever I had to fight defensively, I'll check where my teammates are. If they are nearby, I'll call for help; if they are far away (say, 5+km away), I'll call for help and fly towards them; if most of them are already dead, "crap basket"
What you did at 4:47 was incredible and you say take the camera control to the mouse in order to be able to do that. I'll study that starting from this moment. Thank you for all those videos. Best wishes to you from Turkey.
Hi Jengar, Thanks for this video. I am really looking to take my skills up to the next level as I have bashed my head against my next ability ceiling (3.0+ B&Z) and seem unable to break through. With your videos I hear you talking about precisely what you are doing and how you are doing it and why you are doing it from a tutorial point of view, even in your non-tutorial videos, and its giving me ideas and things I feel I should try myself. I've watched Jingles, Bo, and a little of Phly & Magz, but they don't cover this as well as you do. Or perhaps I didn't pay the same kind of attention back then that I am to you now. But no one else I've watched has covered the flying-by-camera-&-keyboard approach, and it has me interested as I have been gradually moving in that direction myself. The others seem to be either all about the entertainment value and/or the planes and tactics -- which again that is what I was looking for at the time, but now I need to improve or forever be a potato/tomato/mediocre-to-horrible pilot who rage-quits because he's just not good enough to compete at the level he's trying to. Referencing my extensive comments/whining on your J-out video, the reason I would land and J-out is because I know it to be a hopeless situation, and that it *is* hopeless because I don't have the skills to carry a 3-vs-1 inferior position. 2-vs-1 I might give a go if it looks favourable and/or I'm in a plane I am in fact confident of my abilities in, such as a Merlin Spit, the Typhoon Ia, the Zero, or the Corsair. So, I'm going to be watching all your tutorial videos now, so I hope they are not so old that you no longer pay attention to their comments. Also, I hope you have one on being a bomber gunner...
bomber gunner is a nono ;) didnt make that yet. Good that you found the spirit to step on the road of self improvement, its a tough road, which will take blood sweat and tears, but you'll exit the other side completely transformed!
Awesome comment Andrew I totally agree with you about Jengar's content. about the camera and keyboard defensive flying, try and watch some "green fury" videos, he talks about it, but Jengar is more clear in his explications. Do you think Jengar should continue this defensive series to help us improve ?
Of course he should. :) That said, can you please do a tutorial on how to shoot -- and by that I mean judge distance and deflection angle -- with centreline guns? I made some progress thanks to another player's suggestion and spent a day training in the mission editor aiming from in the cockpit through the actual gunsight and using a joystick. However, two matches in RB proved that was just unworkable, even when just switching to the gunsight view for the actual shot. Following his manoeuvring when he's blocked more than half the time by the engine or cockpit frame using the mouse did not work either. Reaction times are just too slow and visibility is a massive issue.
Hi, Jengar! Nice video! I'm still developing my camera Control skills. It takes time to master! To reduce overload in left hand, I set the mouse's right button as camera activator. I'm using an Thrustmaster TWCS throttle on left hand for Engine/rudder/target Lock/map/etc. It also has a mini joystick for indicator finger, wich I use to simple roll and pitch corrections, but this is not as good as the keyboard control.
You should do a video how to bind and set buttons to control a plane cause I totally don't understand those words (I am from Slovakia and I still don't understand those words even in Czech)
Fantastic tutorial, eaven for us old horses of WT, not to mention new playes :-) One thing I think is important is key bindig, put as much controls on muse so that your left heand can play with WASD and other keys for moving your aircraft. I use mouse for flaps control, trottle, zoom, gears, enemy lock and enemy position to me (default C key), yes I have mouse with lot of keys :-) (logitech G502) End practice as much as you can. Jengar thanks for making videos like this, because lot of so call big youtube WT chanals do not do that any more.
PS4 players can look at the target and press X. Once the target is set, the L2 trigger allows you to peek at him. It's easy to get disoriented if you look too long. Not an equalizer, but it helps.
I do try, i mean dont get me wrong, some matches i get 4 kills and on average i get 2 per match, but i do feel im missing something when it comes to being more tactical.
I mostly fly bombers. If I get jumped early, I head for the airfield, and if I am followed, the flak does a good job deleting pursuing pests. If I'm on the other end of the map, I prefer to dive and lead pursuers away from the bases, so even if they get me, they'll be as far as possible out of position to get any more allied bombers.
Thank you for this video! It took me over 2 days to actually get the hang of airbattles.Achieved my first 10 kill match last night and thats because i purely watch my surroundings. But i still havent mastered how to head on in close range.Im still a newbie and i often rip aim so its very hard to do.Also,i would be very happy if you make a video about how to fly with damaged engines/control surfaces
A gaming mouse with extra buttons helps tremendously with camera control. I use a Dark Core Pro, which has two mouse buttons on the side that I press with my thumb.
Great guide, my friend! It's hard to sum up a huge topic like defensive flying in a few minutes, but this video shares the right information to get people started in learning what can only be self-taught. Cheers!
Great video - covered everything I go through with new squad members - the only thing missing in detail (though I think you mentioned it a few times) is plane knowledge. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the various planes you fly and fly against improves tactical decision making a lot in my view. Great video dude, keep it up (also, seafire FR 47!!! check it out, it’s actually interesting now once fully upgraded)
Very usefull guidline mate.. go on pls... This is a fantastic platform to provide valuable advices, tips & tricks etc.. Even the basic of basics like not groundpound with fighters above (allied teams) in initial parts of battle, situational awareness, gun settings and belt choice.. Even though, beginning with such advanced technics is rather for discussion imo :)) I still cannot do the same despite some... thousands of kills and deaths..Thumbs up!
Mad respect jengar. You can fly for sure. X box players can’t do this though bro. Your camera control is awesome. We don’t have enough buttons like pc players do in order to pull those fancy moves. My left stick alone controls roll left or right and throttle up or down. Right stick I use to aim like you would use a mouse. I’d live longer if I could figure out how to pull those rolls and what not. Any advice would help. Keep up the good vids.
Hi Jengar, from your videos I can see that you have a lot of high rank vehicles among almost all nations. I wonder what gamemodes you play, because some clips used in your videos are form RB and some from AB. Which one you recommend to play? Because I used to play ABs, where I was progressing quite quickly, but after skipping to RBs (because I started to dislike the AB physic) the progress slowed down. Do you somehow mix it, or are you just playing one type and the other only for fun?
i used to play only AB, now i play mainly rb, with sometimes ab for premium reviews. to unlock stuff or spade it you should fly the mode you're most comfortable in!
Great job. Could you make a further video elaborate how to maintain camera on enemy and doing defensive moves the same time? I have been trying to learn it for a long time. still not able to perfectly manage it. It would be a great help for medium level players. Thank your
Thank you Jengar ! Once again a great video ! could you keep up this series about defensive flying ? I feel like we don't have much knowledge about it. Maybe do a few episodes, with some examples maybe ? I my mind comes the channel "green fury" wich already makes some defensive videos, but i feel like he is not clear enough. I think you could be a better teacher than him. I still have trouble pulling those defensive manoeuvers. You are always very clear in your explications ! Keep it up ! it's great #Jengarbestpilot Your channel is awesome keep it up ! you deserve so much more
Glad to see you making such wonderful tutorials. But my I request making a tutorial about Aiming. 99% of the time I lose my nerves because of my shit aim
So I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. You disable mouse aim completely and use the "View" setting, leaving only WASD to control your plane? If so, how do you unlock the camera so that it moves the way it does in your video? For me the camera really loves flipping with the plane leaving it upside down which really disorients me. In some cases it even just gets locked up so I can only move it up and down and not side to side. If that's not how it's done, please help me because I just cannot find where the setting for this is.
You let go of view or c view mode and take over the camera with the mouse. Practice with it in test flight and get basic controll over it there before going into a match to try this.
Papa Emeritus IV , *It is hard* only If you plan to play WT using Joysticks in Arcade or Realistics Battles modes. No other combat flight sim can give you that situational awareness given by WT's 3rd view, as other sims puts you locked in cockpit with a very restrictive view & situational awareness. Of course you can play in Simulator Battles mode, using joystick and cockpit view: It will looks and feel pretty much as DCS and IL-2...
Only when flying german 5.7 BR. 9 teams out of 10 consist of either idiots or noobs that bought a fw 190 d13 with lvl 5. Not to mention the insane spam of spacefires and shitbolts
using the camera and doing evasive moves (corckscrews, loops) always fucks me up, i get disoriented. i try my best to check my 6 o clock, above and below as much as possible though. great tips and been looking all over youtube taking bits and pieces of tips from each war thunder content creator, subscribed!
I'd like to learn more about close quarter defensive maneuvers. I play on Xbox 1 and it's quite hard to keep an eye on your surroundings and keep an eye on close opponents. My weakness is once someone is already engaging me, no matter how many times I try to roll feint left and split right and down or immelman out, their always there. Also, I have an issue with throttling too much just out of stress of the moment or forgetting to limit my throttle. I'm am good if I have air breaks, but if not I usually settle with a split S or immelman or barrel roll to the left or right or a combination. Do you have any videos of any of these?
I was surprised you didnt mention usage of flaps in this one. Also i noticed you didnt have much throttle control, and it's quite evident in the 109F4 vs E3 scissor, and in the Spit Vc vs 109F4 clips where you nearly overshot.
An excellent video. I never considered controlling the camera AND the plane at the same time. Now I just need to figure out how the bastards can one-shot me, while I have to hit them 10x to get a kill.
Nice Vids. At least defensive flying helped me survive longer than before... Hope theres some tips for helping bombers to survive longer (esp in high tier one, often got chased by Spitfires or 109s at high altitude or 190 and Yaks at low )
hey jengar, i love your videos in the first place. I have a question: Do you think that defense flying is even possible with any other control method then mouse in RB? Isn´t this the reason why all other control methods fail to be anyhow successful in RB? And if you share this view, do you say RB is balanced somehow? Thx anyways for your work.
Hi Jengar, Thanks for this great video ! I am playing WT for about 1,5 yr now, but so far I have been playing ground forces only. I would love to learn to master planes as well, so I have watched several of your tutorials. However, I have some trouble in setting up the camera controls to my mouse. What button do you use for mouse look activation ? And do you need to hold that constantly while playing ? I assume you are using 'mouse aim' as control mode ? Could you please share your set up ? Thanks in advance ! JP
When you maneuver with the keyboard you can swing the camera around with the mouse. Practice with it in testflight till you can fly looking behind you while maneuvering with all surfaces. And without crashing ;)
Hi Jengar, I had the best evasive flight of my life last night, but it was due to my dead wingman calling out help and directions over voice comms. I was in an unspaded but better-than-stock 109 G-2/trop against a Spit Vc/trop firing stealth. I was only ever trying to evade and get him off my tail after the initial head-on pass. There was no thought about how to actually reverse and gain the upper hand or even get to allies for help because he was able to follow my every move, even though he never hit me once. I was wondering if I could send you the replay for you to analyse, perhaps even feature in a tutorial video of what to do, what not to do, and what should have been done?
you would generally loose in a not spaded g-2/trop against a vc/trop in a dogfight. trying to extent would be best, if not that extend the flaps, use good throttle control and hope for the mistake on his part. i dont take replays.
Whatever you do, whatever you try you can never escape from that one API ammo burst from your teammate and see the flames laughing at you :D P.S. Good job again with the video but this is not a surprise :)
Yes! this is exactly what I needed. Q and E control the rudder and A and D control the wings but how do I control the elevation without going into a spiral? that's something I just can't find the keys for. What do you suggest?
Thanks for the awesome vid, just wondering do you lock the camera on the enemy aircraft or look backwards or adjusting it continuously during defensive flying? I find that Camera is the hardest thing to adjust when doing so.
To bad I’m on ps4 so I can’t use the camera while I’m maneuvering lol. Although I’ve been playing for a couple of years off and on and I can say that after a long time of getting used to it I’m able to somewhat judge where planes are most of the time.
Jengar true enough. Guess I can’t complain about pc master race 😂. I do pretty well in rb though usually anyway so it’s not too big of a deal for me personally. Great video as usual though!
i have my camera set with the hat switch on my joystick... I never fly RB only SB...in your opinion do you think the hat switch can be used like the mouse?
when you fly with the keyboard you can move with the mouse without the C key needed. you need to practice this in testflight. take a plane to 3000m, start flying with the keyboard, and attempt to move the camera with the mouse to look behind you. And while maneuvering, try to keep it there. Expand practice from there.
@@jengar6258 Hey 😃 As an afterthought I decided to add this information for you to consider, or not. (lol) ==Additional Information== Lemme try to be more explicit... Arcade mode - Test Flight Objective: Quickly change direction of flight 180° Example: Flying level with WEP/100% throttle. 1) I hold down A-key and roll plane 180° then... 2) I hold down S-key and flip the plane direction 90° then... 3) I release S-key and the plane *snaps back to original flight direction. (How do I prevent the plane from *snapping back to original flight direction, and follow the new direction I input using the aforementioned keyboard-keys?) ✌
I really need to know the same thing. All the keyboard flying in the world will just get me killed if my plane starts flying itself in a direction I don't want afterwards
Hey Jengar, on the topic of your first key to defensive flying. Is there a way to not have to hold down the C key to have your mouse take over the camera? I play using my keyboard to control my inputs, while using the mouse to control camera, but my current setup means i have to hold down the c key, which limits the amount of inputs i can put in on the keyboard wasd keys, along with q-e for rudder control. Any help with this would be appreciated

Jengar Nice video as always, but i have one question: how you survive a Zero or a Spitfire on your tail when you are in a 109 or a 190?
yeah in the 1 vs 4 ot more one needs to have the luck that they come at you in one's and two's ;) not all at once. By diving away and extending Mr M! then climb up slowly again when the seperation is enough.

So no flying in a straight line....Damn that was my one move.
hehe ;)
Dammit, i figured straight flying with a bunch of small movements to throw of your opponents aim was a good move since you’re less likely to get pilot or gas tank sniped cuz ur a small target, and that sharp turning was suicide since it leaves all the vitals totally exposed (plus i’ve shot down so many planes by shooting them while they were in the middle of turning, took down 5 planes in a short amount of time with a J22-B (or was it a J22-A?) bcuz they kept turning and leaving themselves exposed
I'm 3 years late but, flying the twin mustang that's still my only move
You'd be surprised by how many noobs can't hit a plane flying in a straight line..
Source: am noob
Unless you can straight up out run them
Well stated. I'd also add throttle control to the list of things to keep in mind. Downing someone by forcing an overshoot is very satisfying.
it absolutely is, i would file it under plane controll, one can only put so much in one video ;)
Of course. Just make it a 75 minute video. :D
shhhh, dont tell them all the secrets ;)
Jim Chamberlain? What do YOU know??? Ha! Ha! So you ARE still alive?!!
Nope. Nobody here by that name.
*getting shot from behind*
Me: *goes defensive*
*Immediately gets pilot sniped*
Me: *._.*
in the beginning you will perform less good, you gotta hang in there.
I feel your pain
Literally me, first day playing and I’ve never had such a pain inducing rage fest. Think I’ll stick to 4 wheels on a tarmac surface 😐
A defensive flying video without an FW190?
I AM OUTRAGED BY THIS BLASPHEMOUS VIOLATION :P
UKoctane go to archive of his videos you will find a few Fw defensive videos bro.
ua-cam.com/video/deLBeZwiPyA/v-deo.html
Don't worry mate, *I* got your joke. ;)
hehe, i was contemplating it, but i used my fw 190 clips already, both in normal review and in dogfighting clips ;) and i didnt have time anymore to find new clips, as i planned to make it this weekend ;)
When the camera flips is when I lose my orientation. I hate camera flips
with enough experience they dont trow you off anymore ;)
Unfortunately on Xbox, camera flips are the only way
I put this on in the background of a match, and won while fighting a J20 in a J22! Thank you for the video, it educated me well!
Glad to hear it mate! and good job!
Fantastic. I’ve watched a ton of videos and read a bunch of stuff but nobody has emphasised the camera in this way. Glad to hear it Julian! That relearning phase is tough, you might actually do worst first, but you have to press on! its the road to the next lvl :)
every player feeling "a little bit unsure sometimes" will thank you for that. Excellent tutorial, thank you!
you're welcome mate!
Awesome vid and worldly advice. This is so good for anyone to refresh their skills (new and experienced!). Thanks for the great content
Thanks silo, much appreciated!

what you do is called a split-S, its a trusty maneuver thats a good way to start a dogfight.

So much to do with situational awareness. Keeping a mental note where everyone is and what they were doing.
absolutely!

Dat fw reversal at the outro is the shit Jengar haha, camera work, plane control, throttle control and air combat maunuvers in just a few seconds!
That Fw 190 reversal is what really hooked me onto Jengar. it is a well-chosen "marketing PR" clip! ;)
cheers guys, i also quite like that moment, there's a lot in there, thats why i chose it for my outro :)
This is an odd question but didi you liked the last of us 2
Hi Jengar,

Not even a couple mins of watching you use the tips I am using them quite well already, I love how quick I can learn
nice one Joel, keep at it!
Defensive flying is something your hands learn, not only your brain. Couldn't agree more about practice/experience.
yeah, muscle memory plays a huge part in reflexes. I dont even remember what i do exactly doing certain moves.
I'm from Germany but didn't found any good German Videos about Defensive flying. But this here is great
Glad to hear it :)
Hi, Jengar! Nice video! I'm still developing my camera Control skills. It takes time to master!
To reduce overload in left hand, I set the mouse's right button as camera activator.
I'm using an Thrustmaster TWCS throttle on left hand for Engine/rudder/target Lock/map/etc. It also has a mini joystick for indicator finger, wich I use to simple roll and pitch corrections, but this is not as good as the keyboard control.
got to find the most comfortable setup for your hands and habbits.
You should do a video how to bind and set buttons to control a plane cause I totally don't understand those words (I am from Slovakia and I still don't understand those words even in Czech)
i'll consider that mate
Shame on me, for not finding this gem of a video earlier.
glad you got something out of it :)
Fantastic tutorial, eaven for us old horses of WT, not to mention new playes :-)

Jengar thanks for making videos like this, because lot of so call big youtube WT chanals do not do that any more.
Thanks Moxie, most i see is pure entertainment, which i cant bear to watch.. but it does pull in a lot of viewers that entertainment ;)
flip upside down and fly straight down than turn to the side
Thank you Jengar Finally someone that knows what he is talking about .!

yeah, it doesnt compare to camera controll unfortunately.
This is a great video! I've been playing WT since 2015 and i'm still shit!
never to late to start progressing consiously!
I do try, i mean dont get me wrong, some matches i get 4 kills and on average i get 2 per match, but i do feel im missing something when it comes to being more tactical.
2 kills on avarage isnt shit, thas far above avarage.
After utilizing this I got like 4 maneuver kills in one day. And 1 of them had 2 planes on me.
I mostly fly bombers. If I get jumped early, I head for the airfield, and if I am followed, the flak does a good job deleting pursuing pests.
If I'm on the other end of the map, I prefer to dive and lead pursuers away from the bases, so even if they get me, they'll be as far as possible out of position to get any more allied bombers.
yeah, good tactic.
Thank you im progressing on the game
I'm glad to hear that mate :)

i do have a head on tutorial in there ;)
A gaming mouse with extra buttons helps tremendously with camera control. I use a Dark Core Pro, which has two mouse buttons on the side that I press with my thumb.
roger that!
Very useful, will stay relevant for a long time
yeah, this wont age.
This really helped me even though I play on PS4. I'm practicing this is custom battles and i'm getting used to it. Thanks my guy :)
you're welcome!
Hello fellow ps4 player, pleasure to meet you
I play pn xbox 1 but i connect a keyboard and mouse to it
Great guide, my friend! It's hard to sum up a huge topic like defensive flying in a few minutes, but this video shares the right information to get people started in learning what can only be self-taught. Cheers!
Thank you Toshio!
Good stuff J!!
Thanks mate!
Great video - covered everything I go through with new squad members - the only thing missing in detail (though I think you mentioned it a few times) is plane knowledge. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the various planes you fly and fly against improves tactical decision making a lot in my view. Great video dude, keep it up (also, seafire FR 47!!! check it out, it’s actually interesting now once fully upgraded)
cheers mate, make this mandatory watch for your squadron ;) i've got the fr 47 on the to do list :)
thank you one of the best videos i have seen
Great video, thank you.
You're welcome! and ty!
good tips. thank you
you're welcome!
Very usefull guidline mate.. go on pls... This is a fantastic platform to provide valuable advices, tips & tricks etc.. Even the basic of basics like not groundpound with fighters above (allied teams) in initial parts of battle, situational awareness, gun settings and belt choice.. Even though, beginning with such advanced technics is rather for discussion imo :)) I still cannot do the same despite some... thousands of kills and deaths..Thumbs up!
np mate, you are welcome! :)
Jengar you are amazing man
thanks mate!
Ah some nice advise there matey :)
ty sir!
I always learn something or see something which makes me think thank you sir!
you are welcome !
I gotta leave the comfort zone and learn the keyboard flying thing
You're gold Jengar!!
Thanks!
o7
Excellent video, there's a lot I still need to work on
Thanks mate :)
I've got to say, you make some of the best tutorials!
Thanks bro, for sure I will use your tips in dogfight ! Great video
You're welcome sir! o7
Thank your
I'll put it on my to do list mate!
Jengar Thanks!;-)
Awesome video, really needed this
Thanks Elias! glad to hear it!
Show us your keyboard adjustment please ;)
Thank you Jengar ! Once again a great video ! could you keep up this series about defensive flying ? I feel like we don't have much knowledge about it. Maybe do a few episodes, with some examples maybe ? I my mind comes the channel "green fury" wich already makes some defensive videos, but i feel like he is not clear enough. I think you could be a better teacher than him. I still have trouble pulling those defensive manoeuvers. You are always very clear in your explications !
Keep it up ! it's great
#Jengarbestpilot
Your channel is awesome keep it up ! you deserve so much more
thanks mate! its definitely in the plans, thats why you saw 2 tutorials in one month, more are on the way!
Glad to see you making such wonderful tutorials. But my I request making a tutorial about Aiming. 99% of the time I lose my nerves because of my shit aim
im working on it, may take a few weeks, but its comming.
Practice with it in test flight and get basic controll over it there before going into a match to try this.
war thunder is probably the hardest online multiplayer game ever
Papa Emeritus IV , *It is hard* only If you plan to play WT using Joysticks in Arcade or Realistics Battles modes. No other combat flight sim can give you that situational awareness given by WT's 3rd view, as other sims puts you locked in cockpit with a very restrictive view & situational awareness. Of course you can play in Simulator Battles mode, using joystick and cockpit view: It will looks and feel pretty much as DCS and IL-2...
Alessandro Borges Really? I play in PS4 and you can play WT on SIM with joystick?
Alessandro Borges its hard as fuck
Only when flying german 5.7 BR. 9 teams out of 10 consist of either idiots or noobs that bought a fw 190 d13 with lvl 5. Not to mention the insane spam of spacefires and shitbolts
it definitely has one of the longest learning curves towards mastery. There are other hard games, but WT is amongst them if you're aiming for mastery.
Great Video Jengar !!!
ty mark1 :)
Very nice video. And yes, practice makes perfect 👍
absolutely ;)
using the camera and doing evasive moves (corckscrews, loops) always fucks me up, i get disoriented. i try my best to check my 6 o clock, above and below as much as possible though. great tips and been looking all over youtube taking bits and pieces of tips from each war thunder content creator, subscribed!
Do you have any videos of any of these?
yes, i have my old Air combat maneuver series, and i have a tutorial series. You can find those playlists on my channel.
thx jengar, u gave me a big hope.
I might use custom battles to practice
also good! as long as the practice happens ;)
I was surprised you didnt mention usage of flaps in this one. Also i noticed you didnt have much throttle control, and it's quite evident in the 109F4 vs E3 scissor, and in the Spit Vc vs 109F4 clips where you nearly overshot.
This will help me because with my luck everytime I try to do something someone comes behind me
An excellent video. I never considered controlling the camera AND the plane at the same time. Now I just need to figure out how the bastards can one-shot me, while I have to hit them 10x to get a kill.
I usually end up pressing the wrong rudder key when doing a sledgehammer :P
Very very informative, thanks jengar! Even though u said what I didn't want to hear, the keyboard flying. Lol. I'll figure it out though
you are welcome!
Dankjewel voor deze tips man
np mate! geen probleem! o7
@@jengar6258 alleen die gasten die met zn 5en achter je aan zitten en mouse aim gebruiken vind ik echt nie leuk tho
Jengar the teacher XD
Perfect video
Ill try with keyboard
ty sir! practice makes perfect!
Nice Vids. At least defensive flying helped me survive longer than before... Hope theres some tips for helping bombers to survive longer (esp in high tier one, often got chased by Spitfires or 109s at high altitude or 190 and Yaks at low )
Thanks for Help me for This type of combat
Your accent is so Dutch, the 100gr of Gouda left in my fridge grew back to a full kilo block :D
hehe, 100%!
Another nice and usefull video!
Cheers nando!
hey jengar, i love your videos in the first place. I have a question: Do you think that defense flying is even possible with any other control method then mouse in RB? Isn´t this the reason why all other control methods fail to be anyhow successful in RB? And if you share this view, do you say RB is balanced somehow?
Thx anyways for your work.
im not sure mate, i never used any other way to control, nor master it. A seasoned ps4 player would be better placed to answer your question.
Gonna practice this to *b u l l y* battlefield pilots lol.
hehe.
Ty m8 this will rlly be helpfull :D
glad to hear it mate :)
Jengar ga deze sws na mijn examens uitproberen 😄💪🏾
Hi Jengar,
I had the best evasive flight of my life last night, but it was due to my dead wingman calling out help and directions over voice comms.
Whatever you do, whatever you try you can never escape from that one API ammo burst from your teammate and see the flames laughing at you :D
P.S. Good job again with the video but this is not a surprise :)
Cheers Mambo!
Thank you !!!
you are welcome david!
Hello Jengar! You did again an interesting video. Thank you for that. Could you please make a video for aiming?
working on it.
2:10 it sounds like I've already completed step one towards camera mastery.
hehe ;)
I’m bad at aviation anyway but this is entertaining
Yes! this is exactly what I needed.
Q and E control the rudder and A and D control the wings but how do I control the elevation without going into a spiral? that's something I just can't find the keys for. What do you suggest?
i have pitch on w and s, and i've put that throttle that used to be there on left shift and left ctrl.
Gotcha! gotta try that out
Are you steadily holding down the camera button or did you set it to where you just tap to activate and tap to deactivate?
Great video ;)
Thanks mate!
good advice in a well presented vid. Very nice. 👍
Thank you neil!
Yo dude, when I flick my mouse back, it starts fighting controls for aileron and elevator, is there some sorta control setup to reduce this?
Hold down C.
Thanks for the awesome vid, just wondering do you lock the camera on the enemy aircraft or look backwards or adjusting it continuously during defensive flying? I find that Camera is the hardest thing to adjust when doing so.
i control the camera with the mouse while dogfighting and fly the plane with the keyboard.
Thanks a lot for the reply, well that is a lot of work to do and practice then
indeed ;) good luck!
To bad I’m on ps4 so I can’t use the camera while I’m maneuvering lol. Although I’ve been playing for a couple of years off and on and I can say that after a long time of getting used to it I’m able to somewhat judge where planes are most of the time.
good stuff, maybe buy mouse and keyboard for your ps4?
Jengar true enough. Guess I can’t complain about pc master race 😂. I do pretty well in rb though usually anyway so it’s not too big of a deal for me personally. Great video as usual though!
cheers mate :) and fair enough.
When you perform the camera work, does your plane auto-roll by itself or did you have that option off?
Edit: Thank you for your guide video.
no it doesnt, you control the plane with the keyboard at that point :)
@@jengar6258 It is strange that I can manually pitch and yaw, but whenever I roll the plane, it automatically leveling out somehow 😂😂
i have my camera set with the hat switch on my joystick... I never fly RB only SB...in your opinion do you think the hat switch can be used like the mouse?
very nice video !!
Thanks mate!
The only reason I know you is because you were in Long5hot's series of master classes
You need hands like Andre the giants to use c key AND control the plane
once you have the camera with the mouse you dont ;)
Jengar But dont you have to hold c down to keep in camera mode?
i dont no, when i maneuver into a turn i take the camera with the mouse and i can let go of the c key, and continue to look around with the mouse.
You're right! Found that out last night. Starting to get to grips with these techniques. Great vid mate. More tutorials!
nice tips bro
you're welcome!
Asking "How" the C-key works with preventing your aircraft from snapping back to original direction while performing manevuers is all I want to know.
when you fly with the keyboard you can move with the mouse without the C key needed. you need to practice this in testflight. take a plane to 3000m, start flying with the keyboard, and attempt to move the camera with the mouse to look behind you. And while maneuvering, try to keep it there. Expand practice from there.
@@jengar6258 👍 Thank-You!
Practice, practice, practice... Got it. ✌
@@jengar6258 Hey 😃 As an afterthought I decided to add this information for you to consider, or not. (lol)
==Additional Information==
Lemme try to be more explicit...
Arcade mode - Test Flight
Objective: Quickly change direction of flight 180°
Example: Flying level with WEP/100% throttle.
Any help with this would be appreciated
you can let go of c once you have it with the mouse
when i let go of C the camera resets to the front, giving mouse control of the plane once again. is this a setting i have to change?
not that i remember, there is a way to go about it. i'd actually have to do it to see what i uncontiously do each day ;)
ill post this question on the warthunder forums then to see if i can get more responses. thanks for the help jengar
