Pity the technology led to a bunch of computer generated crap. In the end the power of story telling is what matters, the means of secondary importance. Greenaway became too obsessed with innovation, and forgot the basic art of story telling. What made his cinema so enthralling was great acting, and writing - backed up by exquisite images. Unlike in painting and sculpture - too much innovation in the cinema just looks self indulgent and pretentious. The cinema is technology, so doesn't need to embrace technology, rather the technology needs to embrace content, to always be the slave of content, never to allow its form to dominate. The technical wizardry should be left to the geeks at Pixar and Dreamworks, in the end it's not like Greenaway has added to the remorseless advance of CGI. It would've happened anyway, and besides it soon became an advance into Hades.
Thanks for uploading.
James Gumm no problem.
thank you so much for this! it's incredible
thank you for the nice comment :-)
Not all the actors were professionals. My friends kids got to be book sliders at the opening
of the film - their first and last roles ever.
best movie ever
Gielgud is simply the best.
4:45 young Jonathan Romney!

A pity good taste and refinement of senses are so rare...the Author's predictions could have been fulfilled...
