@@johnporkthe3rd51 I was two years old and wasn't following football in 2006 but having watched videos of the games of the tournament it seemed great, my favourite world cup was 2018 in Russia, mainly cause England did very well and won on pens, but also cause very few people thought it would be a success but FIFA and Russia absolutely smashed it, very little hostility and violence, many surprises as well, from Germany getting knocked out at the group stage to Croatia getting to the final, Japan giving Belgium a scare, from an organisational standpoint it was fantastic

I remember this final against Italy. The game was going ok for France but somehow we could feel that if Italy took us to the goal kicks we would loose. Italy was super confident that day.

Even teams like Sweden, Czech Republic, Mexico, USA had great teams. That Ivory Coast team is one of the greatest african teams to play in a world cup. Golden era of football 90s-2000s!

France was an amazing team but Italy had the easier bracket and were fresher. Zidane is very private and protective of his family. I cannot say I would not have reacted the same way. But I would have love for him to keep his composure, win the World Cup via penalties and the icing on the cake would be to beat the brakes off of Materazzi ass.

On paper they had really strong attacking minded Players. But they don't really have balance team. Their defence are penetrable and this is maybe cold take for me but Kaka and Ronaldinho not suit playing together. You don't need all that stars player to win the WC just need solid team like German or Team that knew how to play their style the best like Spain's Tiki Taka or France with their counter attack style.
