Exactly! The gross-outs should be incidental and not THE FOCUS. "REN & STIMPY" worked best when the crossness was minimal and it relied on wacky, satire and just being silly. Also, in the original, Ren & Stimpy...while they were profoundly dysfunctional, still were buddies who cared about each other deep down (in a weird, twisted sort of way). If Ren was being abusive, it was for good reason and simply a matter of him overreacting rather than sadism. Some of the best humor didn't involve extreme gross-outs at all...That silly "Happy Helmet", the nature show spoof (the 'Frilled Ren' was adorable), the space adventure with the red button, etc. --- However, John K is an idiot and assumed everyone liked "R & S" for the gross-outs. I don't buy his "I was forced into it by Spike" for one second. The Emperor has no clothes and his later offering bear this out. "REN & STIMPY" was awesome DESPITE John K not because of him. "REN & STIMPY" can come back and be great again without ANY of John K's involvement! --- JOHN KRISFALUSI IS AN "EEEDIOT!" AND A "BLOATED SACK OF PROTOPLASM!".
One problem, his distinctive voice for ren stands out from all the others. John Kricfalusi is Ren Hoek, I'd rather keep the original Ren & Stimpy without any new version being made and let APC fade to black.
The problem is, Kricfalsui is so poisoned by toxic masculinity that he thought pathos was anathema to Ren and Stimpy. That's why they did that one cartoon where Stimpy falls in love with a fart, to prove some point about how fake pathos in animation is. Unsurprisingly, fans have rejected this read for the nihilistic bullcrap it is.
Ren and Stimpy feels like this inside joke I was never in on because I was born in the middle of the 90s and barely caught reruns of it but I damn saw its influence everywhere. Even Stephen Hillenburg made a tiny doodle of them in his notebook - but God, I love the art direction of earlier seasons.
Every time you sprinkled in a clip from the 90s Ren and Stimpy to mock the Adult Party cartoon it gave me so much joy- having the occasional palette cleanse was much appreciated! And the comparisons just made me love the original even more
@@ExtremeWreck not APC, but without him ren & stimpy simply wouldn't exist. You can't deny someone's skills solely based on their person. Separating art from artist is a constant thing i have to do with this series
As someone who saw stripperella and this in my teens, this show was the worse of the two. Sure it has better animation, but it is an insult to the original series.
I forgot how even the colour palette of APC was disgusting to look at Speaking of Ren and Stimpy, I really hope the new revival they’re doing will bring back the original spirit of the show as well as heal R&S reputation after APC basically killed it. I’m hoping the team working on it give John K one big ‘F You’ with it (the idea of a R&S show without his involvement must already piss him off)
I remember being so excited to see that Ren and Stimpy were coming back. I actually tuned in to the premiere episode when it aired. My problem was that the humor tried too hard to be edgy. By the time you had Ren freak out on Stimpy by saying, "How many times do I have to remind you? I'm the pitcher! You're the catcher!" I figured that the show wasn't the show I was thought it would be. The original series had some edgy humor to it, but I think being on a kid's network made it walk a fine line that actually made it funny because of how they had to work around that limitation. This was just basically John K going, "Now that I'm not doing this for a kid's network, I'm going to make it as offensive as possible." and shoehorn in a bunch of unfunny edgy jokes for the sake of it.
I absolutely LOVED the original Ren & Stimpy - and saw all of the adult versions, and agree they were absolutely unwatchable. In the original, Stimpy was a brilliant inventor and his character was innocent. In the adult versions, Stimpy is just stupid and banal. It is as though John K. wanted to create his ultimate F*U middle finger to everyone in the industry who had turned on him. I once thought John K. was brilliant. Now I think he’s a pervy creep who is into young girls and that all the fun, joy, and humour of the original series had almost nothing to do with John K.
The original Ren and Stimpy, particularly the early seasons, were already so dark and twisted that they basically defined the line for what's acceptable viewing material and what isn't. Allowing the twisted mind of John K to produce an unleashed version of this show when NICKELODEON could barely keep him to the basest levels of human decency was one of those things you look at in retrospect and think "what the ever loving hell went through the executive's minds?"
I was a huge R&S fan back in the 90s so i was super excited about them coming back in 2003. I was on the edge of my seat for the first episode. It was so bad i didnt even watch the whole thing & never even bothered to see when the rest aired. It even kinda ruined the old episodes, i dont know if ive watched any R&S since. In order to do a good job, John K needs limits imposed on him from outside, if you cut him loose you get shit.
I was so pumped for Adult Party Ren & Stimpy back on the day. As a huge fan of the Nickelodeon original I had high hopes....Boy! was I disappointed. Almost from the start it flew off the rails. I wish I could wipe it from my memory.
Damn is it really that disgusting to watch? It almost seems unreal a cartoon could be that bad, I actually want to watch it just to see how disgusting it really is lol
@@megacide84 I just watched some clips on UA-cam and you’re absolutely right. Wtf were they thinking it’s absolutely atrocious and makes me feel so weird about the original show now 😩
I actually watched the entire thing from the time it came out to the time it got cancelled. I was 10 and I had already been in love with the original show. It left a bad taste in my mouth and it was hard to watch the original show afterwards.
I reviewed APC for a blog I used to contribute to, I still remember writing about how Stimpy became pregnant and Ren's first reaction was to grab a wire hanger... I followed it up with "Feel free to take a few minutes, lord knows I did."
I've heard Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon is just awful and it's definitely one of the far worst 2000s cartoons of all time. It is infamous for its episode Ren Seeks Help. I've only seen some bits of it on UA-cam and it's absolutely horrific. Ren is seen torturing the poor innocent frog, removing the caterpillar's legs and killing the ants by burning. At the end of the same episode, he starts attacking and killing Mr. Horse as he goes completely mad. I thought I had no idea why the American company Viacom (now ViacomCBS) decided to make an adult spin-off of the popular 90s cartoon. They should be absolutely ashamed of this terrible spin-off. I'm not gonna watch Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon anymore. Anyway good night 🌃 from Ireland 🇮🇪
From what I hear, Ren Seeks Help was inspired by real life events in John K's life. Not to mention I think it was also made to be absolutely gross and abhorrent at the behest of a fan.
@@SaiyanGamer95 The sad thing is the Original already had an episode similar to that and miles better. Remember the Jimmty Lummox episode? That was the one where Ren did horrible things because he literally didn't have a conscious. Stimpy decided to lend his conscious to him and whenever Ren did something terrible, his conscious would literally beat up on him. It was one of my favorites as a kid.
But on the bright side, it inspired the writer of the creepypasta "Red mist". Just think about it. Both stories are about a lost episode of a popular Nickelodeon show that is somehow really disturbing and included extremely violent scenes. Except Ren seeks help was released in 2003 and Red mist was made in 2005.
The clip right off the bat where Ren is pulling out the nerves from his gums... I actually physically cringed and felt the pain from that, and I hate that it exists...
I hope the reboot has a villainous character modeled after Krisfalusi that Ren & Stumpy clobber or something. Call him "Jerk Grosskowski World's Worst Cartoonist". Jerk would take over the reins of Ren & Stimpy's fave in-universe cartoon show only to butcher it. Ren & Stimpy then got out to stop him and many gags referencing (albeit more tactfully) junk from "APC", "Cans Without Labels" and that "Pee Boner" nonsense.
I remember when John K got fired in the early 90's they interviewed him in Cenimatique (?) Magazine in 1992 and they listed off a bunch of episodes that Nickelodeon rejected in 1991 and two of those episodes ended up being "Onwards & Upwards" and "Altruists" and they included quotes from the script & storyboard that ended up in the Adult Party Cartoons over a decade later. I think if Vanessa Coffey let him do them for Nickelodeon but made him tone it down a bit, they would have ended up being better episodes. When John K is left to his own devices unchecked, he tends to ruin things.
I watched the adult cartoon when I was 16, and it traumatized my teenage psyche in ways I wish it hadn't. It introduced me to things in the adult world I should NOT have seen at that age. Nothing has come even remotely close to horrifying me as this show did, not even in a good way like the original. Now, it's 10 years later. The show still makes me incredibly uncomfortable.
Yeah this pretty much nails it on the head with APC. I will say I do genuinely like the Firedogs part II Episode. It has a lot of the major flaws with the other episodes for sure but actually has a good amount of classic Ren & Stimpy style humor. My favorite part is Stimpy playing the pan flute and Rens little dance. Plus the fire chief character was pretty funny. But beyond that episode I wish this show never existed.
Adult party cartoon came at the wrong time on the wrong channel. It's still funny. Billy is talented, but Ren and Stimpy is the only reason I know his name. John K may be a creep, but still an insanely talented creep. Weirdos are way more interesting than average minds. Facts.
I have to say this every time I see one of these APC reviews. John K is the worst thing to happen to R&S. He created them, yeah, but for the most part he wasn't there to work on the show. He wanted perfection and had high demands, but Nickelodeon got tired of him not showing up to work, so they eventually got rid of him due to deadlines. APC happened, and the same thing happened again. He wasn't showing up to work. Except this time Nickelodeon couldn't step in and continue without him. The staff had to work on the show without John K. John K deliberately designed APC to appeal to the dumbest people, saying something like "they're so stupid they won't even realize how bad it is". That design, PLUS he wasn't showing up to oversee the project, and that was the result. The guy had TWO chances to make R&S a success. And he failed both times. The guy only worked on season 1 and 2 of the original, and season 1 was only 6 episodes long. Nickelodeon did three other season PLUS the original two without him. He deserves no credit for R&S and they need to quit letting him touch that franchise.
What's really funny about this entire show, it was intended as one of the grand entrees to re-introduce The New TNN as Spike TV, _now called Paramount Network,_ but Adult Party Cartoon was cancelled before they fully incorporated the Spike TV handle, meaning the only time it aired, the network was still using the TNN screenbug and the TNN production logo. The show died _that fast._
I grew up watching the original show on a small black and white TV and it was one of my favorite cartoons. When the spike TV show was announced I was interested until I saw the first episode.
I loved Ren and Stimpy cartoons in the first half they produced. Yeah, its a shame they had to get over board with things that made ya want to barf. I liked the sexual innuendos, as long as they didn't over step things. South Park movie over stepped that and I hated it too. Its a shame that they felt like they had to go over board with things.
Now that I've seen the full series, I can understand why so many loved it and as a new fan have taken the oath to never bring apc ever again and hope others never learn about it.
I kinda knew of it but never seen it and didn’t know it was so bad it only lasted a day. But yes it definitely sounds like the creator was trying to get revenge or some weird thing. I grew up watching the original and heck even my mom did as well ,up until the episode about either Stimpy’s nose goblin collection or his scab collection lol. She was able to stomach the grossness till then. A lot of our younger coworkers would be shocked when she would start singing the Happy Happy Joy Joy song and also kinda repulsed that she let us watch it lol. My brother and I got lucky that my folks didn’t censor almost everything from us. ( granted something’s had to wait till we where older, but not a silly cartoon)
in my country, all the episodes were dubbed(with the same VAs from the original cartoon coming back) and broadcasted on VH1,probably long before the americans could see them in their own country on DVD!
I blame Ralph Bakshi. He had a hand in that show. And he was the one who tried to take it to that level. He was trying to make ren and stempy into another fritz the cat. He is the one who pushed the infamous "You're the catcher! I'm the pitcher!" Scene. I think that one scene is what doomed the whole show.
Eh. I don't think that's his fault for letting John K took inspiration from his work. Fritz The Cat is an odd movie, but if it wasn't for Ralph Bakshi, then adult animation wouldn't be a thing by now.
I actually really liked the adult show. However i do think it would do better now, especially on at 3am on adult swim. Love the new content homie. ❤️ hope you are well!
@@caucasoidape8838 As hated as that episode is , it's the ONLY episode that deserves the Adult tag in the show. The rest of APC is mostly nonsense but that episode is to me what the entire show should have been about, psychological dark humor.

Part of the fun of the original Ren & Stimpy was seeing what they could get away with on a children's network, specifically aimed at children and under the watchful eye of censors. If there's no limits on what you can do, then it's not shocking when you do something gross or sexually suggestive! Big deal, I say!

Not only that, but Joseph Barbera hated on how John Kricfalusi ruined Yogi Bear with its shorts, Boo Boo Runs Wild and A day in the life of Ranger Smith. After seeing how gross this shorts turned out, Joseph Barbera was angry and wanted Kricfalusi dead.

i remember watching all 6 episodes of this show a few years ago because I was going through ren and stimpy at the time and thought of giving this show a try but it was genuinely terrible, not a single episode was even close to being good (shit like naked beach frenzy gotta be one of the worst episodes of anything I’ve seen) the unfortunate thing is that this show has very good animation, love the backgrounds and character animations (despite the fact the sound design is usually awful and constantly overuses stock sound effects with bad audio mixing) and I dont think an adult version of ren and stimpy is inherently a bad idea, but the writing has to be good and this show’s writing was absolutely NOT good lmao

She handed me this CD in particular, and I about died when I put it in, I couldn't believe this was allowed to be made on a CD. That being said, it wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched. It had its funny moments, and id like to think that the episode "Ren seeks help" is the best interpretation of how fucked up some people in the world are, and portrays a realistic take on what some mentally ill people experience(d) to get that way. Some of the best humor didn't involve extreme gross-outs at all...That silly "Happy Helmet", the nature show spoof (the 'Frilled Ren' was adorable), the space adventure with the red button, etc.
---
However, John K is an idiot and assumed everyone liked "R & S" for the gross-outs. I don't buy his "I was forced into it by Spike" for one second. The Emperor has no clothes and his later offering bear this out. "REN & STIMPY" was awesome DESPITE John K not because of him. "REN & STIMPY" can come back and be great again without ANY of John K's involvement!
---
JOHN KRISFALUSI IS AN "EEEDIOT!" AND A "BLOATED SACK OF PROTOPLASM!".
One problem, his distinctive voice for ren stands out from all the others. John Kricfalusi is Ren Hoek, I'd rather keep the original Ren & Stimpy without any new version being made and let APC fade to black.
@@PowerRangersFanAntiDinoFury True.

@mkeufish no there was another reboot planed after Adult Party
I have a Japanese penpal who loves Ren and Stimpy. I taped episodes of Adult Party Cartoon for her. She loved it!
Wow
Ren and Stimpy feels like this inside joke I was never in on because I was born in the middle of the 90s and barely caught reruns of it but I damn saw its influence everywhere.
Even Stephen Hillenburg made a tiny doodle of them in his notebook - but God, I love the art direction of earlier seasons.
Ren and stimpy was so far ahead of its time that today would look at yesterday and sue the SHIT out of it
I hate all the shows that tripped it off or were too bland compared to it.
Every time you sprinkled in a clip from the 90s Ren and Stimpy to mock the Adult Party cartoon it gave me so much joy- having the occasional palette cleanse was much appreciated! And the comparisons just made me love the original even more
John kricfalusi is a creep but i still love ren and stimpy
He shouldn't have even been involved with that show in the 1st place.
@@ExtremeWreck not APC, but without him ren & stimpy simply wouldn't exist. You can't deny someone's skills solely based on their person. Separating art from artist is a constant thing i have to do with this series
@@theredpanda00 Well, maybe he'd do that, then just leave the building.

@@rankrodent2772 that describes most artists sadly :’)
As someone who saw stripperella and this in my teens, this show was the worse of the two. Sure it has better animation, but it is an insult to the original series.
I forgot how even the colour palette of APC was disgusting to look at
Speaking of Ren and Stimpy, I really hope the new revival they’re doing will bring back the original spirit of the show as well as heal R&S reputation after APC basically killed it. I’m hoping the team working on it give John K one big ‘F You’ with it (the idea of a R&S show without his involvement must already piss him off)
Also. Who else wants to see Mr. Horse meet Bojack Horseman?
(WHAT IS THIS?? A CROSSOVER EPISODE??!?) 😂😂
"Call the Poooliiiiiice"
O my goddd!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE BOJACK TO ENCOUNTER MR. HORSE!!!! HELL YEAH!!! AND A CAMEO OF POWDERED TOASTMAN!
Gross
This is a classic example of how just because something is "adult" doesn't mean it's mature.
Yeah so true !!
Me too, I loved the original Ren & Stimpy, the Adult Party version was just terrible. What was disgustingly funny became just plain disgusting.
Damn is it really that disgusting to watch? It almost seems unreal a cartoon could be that bad, I actually want to watch it just to see how disgusting it really is lol

I still own the DVD as part of my Ren & Stimpy collection. It’s in very good condition since I’ve only watched it once.
I actually watched the entire thing from the time it came out to the time it got cancelled. I was 10 and I had already been in love with the original show. It left a bad taste in my mouth and it was hard to watch the original show afterwards.

A bad day is a choice my friend!
Good, how are you?
I'm Mexican American, from Brownsville, Texas. I love Ireland. Shamrocks!!!
And the fact that Ren seeks help is official and Red mist is just a fanmade story (it did have a cameo in one episode though)
Ren & Stimpy aimed for kids > Ren & Stimpy aimed for adults
I remember watching this live on TV as a 7 or 8 year old. I couldn't stomach it
I feel seriously bad for you. I hope you're doing better now.
I saw it when I was 11 or 12 years old on UA-cam and then Netflix. It was a decent experience but now, I regret it so much 🤮
Well it was not for children but for MEN!!!
Im loving your new content so far, I can't wait until you do a Dexter and Courage episodes (I hope you do)
The clip right off the bat where Ren is pulling out the nerves from his gums... I actually physically cringed and felt the pain from that, and I hate that it exists...
Maybe they were super thin gloves :o
I hope the reboot has a villainous character modeled after Krisfalusi that Ren & Stumpy clobber or something. Call him "Jerk Grosskowski World's Worst Cartoonist". Jerk would take over the reins of Ren & Stimpy's fave in-universe cartoon show only to butcher it. Ren & Stimpy then got out to stop him and many gags referencing (albeit more tactfully) junk from "APC", "Cans Without Labels" and that "Pee Boner" nonsense.
Ngl, that’s a good idea 😂
Ugh...I hated the Adult Party version of Ren and Stimpy. Love the original though
I don't think John K. had boundaries... or ethics... or morals... or a conscience.
I remember when John K got fired in the early 90's they interviewed him
in Cenimatique (?) Magazine in 1992 and they listed off a bunch of
episodes that Nickelodeon rejected in 1991 and two of those episodes
ended up being "Onwards & Upwards" and "Altruists" and they included
quotes from the script & storyboard that ended up in the Adult Party
Cartoons over a decade later.
I think if Vanessa Coffey let him do them for Nickelodeon but made him
tone it down a bit, they would have ended up being better episodes.
When John K is left to his own devices unchecked, he tends to ruin things.
Space Madness, and Nurse Stimpy are two episodes that stand out as hilarious.
I was really let down by this show. I can't recall much, but what I can I was just thinking "okay...trying waaaaay too hard here."
Cry me a river. I read Joe Blow by Robert Crumb when I was under ten years old . . . got it from the library in a collection of comics.

Facts.
@@equinox2459 No, this show was lame
He can still work as an animator, but don't let this man direct a single show more. John K has demonstrated several times he can't direct a show.
Thank you for the setting the record straight, OG Ren & Stimpy were tainted by this recreation.
John K. ruined his career and ruined the cartoon he created! Unbelievable.
Ren and Stimpy is the definition and embodiment of a downward spiral of a nickelodeon cartoon
John K may have created the show but I think it’s bob camp we should be giving credit
Yeah. This show was bad. Real bad! No wonder why this premiered on the Sprite channel, and not Nickelodeon.
Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon is basically the equivalent to modern day Family Guy.

in my country, all the episodes were dubbed(with the same VAs from the original cartoon coming back) and broadcasted on VH1,probably long before the americans could see them in their own country on DVD!
Really? Bakshi had a hand in this, too? Dang!

Part of the fun of the original Ren & Stimpy was seeing what they could get away with on a children's network, specifically aimed at children and under the watchful eye of censors. If there's no limits on what you can do, then it's not shocking when you do something gross or sexually suggestive! Big deal, I say!
The first episodes from the reboot just came out and its quite similar to the 90s original show.
