Exactly. I listened to it on repeat with my sister as teens. It just played like a soundtrack in the background as we went through our day , getting ready for school, hanging with friends, just sitting around being young and having no real responsibilities. Now I listen to it and I’m 43 with kids of my own. Still it takes me right back to that time in my life when I was so carefree. 😊

Smashing Pumpkins was the favorite band of a childhood friend that died January 2007. Her birthday is tomorrow and she would be 33. I think of her every time I hear this song. You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth.

It may be sad but that's also the beauty of it, we would never appreciate time if we could simply move or change it. Time has only one direction, forwards, live the beautiful gift of life before that time runs out and enjoy it.

His view on time when he says
“ time is never time at all” and “ we’re not the same we’re different here tonight”. Is so deep and true. And the person you were yesterday is not the same person today , because each moment changes you. and time is relative and the past doesn’t exist. You have all the time in the world bc time is now. ❤

I know I’ve already commented on this before, but I gotta say that this song has literally became my anti-depressant. And quite literally because the lyrics are some of the most well-written I’ve ever heard. Some of my favorites include:
“That life can change, that you’re not stuck in vain.”
“And you do believe there’s not a chance?”
    “We’ll crucify the insincere.”
    “The impossible is possible.”
In other words, I think what this song is trying to say is that if you believe even for just a moment that something good is going to happen in your life, eventually it will. Of course, it will take time, and there will be doubts, trials, tribulations, but if you put all of that past you, or in other words “crucify the insincere.” As the song beautifully puts it, eventually the impossible does become possible.
This is just my interpretation of the song as I’m sure that there are many others. Feel free to share them with me if you’d like.

This song reminds me of the last night with my high school girlfriend before I left for college the next day. We stayed up nearly all night, didn't want the evening to end because we knew we'd be leaving a piece of youth behind. We knew we'd never be the same after that night. The song was prophetic. We weren't the same...we became different. But for that one night everything was real. Everything was sincere. We felt the resolute urgency of now that night. I look back with bittersweet memories. We knew it was a night unlike any other that night. We soaked it all in because we knew would never be able to go back. We found a way to offer up the night and it paid us back with a lifetime of memories that i'll never, ever forget. The Pumpkins captured and described the feelings of that night for us perfectly in this amazing, incredible song. Nothing else has come close to the feelings we felt that night.

This reminds me of the memories i somewhat remember...can't remember most of it, but my fiancee, soon to be my wife, helps me remember those memories i had before it all went dark. Because of her, I feel faith, hope, and love. Time with her is irrelevant...we both had a dark past but everything becomes no existent when I'm with her. I got used to being alone, and when she found me, i knew she was the one, the one who made me feel whole for the first time. 💗

Time is never time at all
    You can never ever leave
Without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change, the less you feel
    Believe
    Believe in me
    Believe, believe
    That life can change
That you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different
    Tonight
    Tonight
    Tonight, so bright
    Tonight
    Tonight
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
    And the embers never fade
In your city by the lake
The place where you were born
    Believe
    Believe in me
    Believe, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance
    Tonight
    Tonight
    Tonight, so bright
    Tonight
    Tonight
    We'll crucify the insincere tonight
    (Tonight)
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
    (Tonight)
We'll find a way to offer up the night
    (Tonight)
The indescribable moments of your life
    (Tonight)

The first time I listened to 'the pumpkins' was with a Siamese Dream cd I borrowed from a friend when I was 13 (1997) about that same time I discovered they were being highly rotated on MTV with this video.

So many comments about being happy while listening to Smashing Pumpkins... The name of this album is literally Melon Collie and The Infinite Sadness. My brain hurts. I suppose The Smiths are just feel good music.

Read some of the lyrics. They provide a reason to feel happy/inspired.

You don't get to decide how people interpret and digest the music they listen to. By your logic people should listen to this album and berate themselves for tapping their feet, lest they enjoy themselves. The song is fucking beautiful. The album is fucking beautiful. It's been around for a while, it could be that it transports people back to their youth when they hear it. I was 14 when this album came out. Everyone at my school who was talking about was not talking about it because it made them feel sad and they certainly didn't jump down each other's throats for enjoying it.

The play on words didn't escape me. The title of the album doesn't change the fact that the beat and rhythm of the song brings about a feeling of inspiration and hope.
At least to myself it does. If you don't feel that way fair enough, but if people think this is a song that causes them to feel happy, then at least understand that they have a point. Afterall, music is open to interpretation in many cases.

I just had literal chills hearing this song..but at the same time i prayed for him and his wife and 2kids to be ok right now kuz for some reason i Believe that when someone pops in my head i should check up on them ....I see it like a sign ..kuz you never know what someone might be going thru ..n they might just need someone to show them they care and check up on them

The song 'Tonight, Tonight' by The Smashing Pumpkins from the 1995 album 'Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'. Written by Billy Corgan. Here are the lyrics for those who can't be bothered to watch the video:
Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
    Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
    Tonight, so bright
    Tonight
And you know you're never sure
But your sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
    Believe, believe in me, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
    Tonight, so bright
    Tonight
    We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
    The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight.

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to besides Fugazi and The Pixies or just Frank Black alone was Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam (not my fav but ok) opening for Nirvana. SP put on the best show, IMO.
