The design is growing on me, would like to have seen a larger sleeper on it. I understand the effort to utilize the commonality of the 680. It will take a little time to accept it. W900 still rules with me.👍
The design at first wasn't a favorite of mine, but it grew on me quickly. Have you been in the 76" sleeper? The way the space gets used is so much better than the Studio. Granted, space is space.....but this uses it so much better.
I'll be getting one in the near future. The company I drive for has found fit to put me in one for their appreciation to me for my professionalism and record.
The W 990 is by far the best of all the 900's out there. The interior is amazing. I really like the back wall with the 2 storage compartments and the open net storage in the center. The windows are nice, the freezer and closet space and TV rack and desk are beautiful. It's the prettiest truck next to the W900L Aerodyne. I drove them with the 265" wheel base and love every minute of it. I noticed that the W990's are about 295" wheelbase or more. I know they will be a little bit difficult to back a 53' trailer in a space. I don't know why they made a lot of them so long. I know the ride will be phenominal but backing is going to be a little difficult. Other than that, I love them. I wish I could buy a new one today. What is the weight of a new W 900 with a 72" areodyne sleeper truck. With no fuel in it?
I would like the high power blinding lights. Personally. They made those lights for safety I am sure. Only 4 wheelers can blind people. Would be interested in your answer. Love your channel and the info you pass along.
@@jasonbrazil4532 Thanks Jason! They went with Halogens for the reasons of durability and ease of replacement while on the road. LED's still have some bugs to be worked out before they are ready for the big time in a truck. In that, have you run these lights? I think that they've got a great pattern and work pretty well from what I've seen of them. Definitely better than the old school lights for sure.
I don't understand why KW doesn't offer the 86" Studio Sleeper with the 990's. If they did, it would put this truck over the W900 by a country mile. And before the haters start to chime in - I drove a gorgeous '17 W900 with a 76" sleeper for over 2 years. I now have a '20 International LT with an X15 that's loaded to the hilt. Having driven both a narrow cab truck and now a wide cab truck with a huge sleeper - I'll take the big cab and huge interior space ANY day over the superficiality of the W900. When you basically live in the thing - more space and comfort is king. I wish I could get one of these W990's - but for the money, you get way more truck with an International LT with an X15. Plus the fuel economy of the LT is truly astounding. I average 7.6 mpg. Even with all that said, I still wish I could get one of these W990's with the 86' Studio Sleeper.
My biggest issue i have with this truck is it doesn't have the studio sleeper or the air cleaners like the w900 to me it doesn't look as good as the w900
I'm enjoying your vids, Josh. Thank You. Old school OTR, here. I've yet to see a W990. Gut tells me they should've stretched the sleeper 10"-12". A 900's style/bling/comforts without the wind noise? Awesome! However, putting up w/the hood in city driving should come w/more than a 680 sleeper. Hard to imagine the engine can breathe well enough through those teeny side panels. Wondering if an airbox mod won't be coming for that. Does look real pretty. Looking forward to seeing one. Thanks, again.
Thanks Ken!!!! There's actually plenty of space for air to get in there with the side panels. On top of that, take a peek at the turbo inlet size and you'll see that there's plenty of room. :D
Whats to hate?? In my 25 years of trucking i think this is the BEST mix of new and classic styling!!!! My only complaint is i wish we could still have the option of putting something yellow under the hood ya know?
Richard, take a peek at the 76" sleeper on this. It's a bit shorter, but they make a whole let better usage of the space. It's definitely a great setup.
@@KenworthofRichfield I've seen it, it's the very same one on the t680, t880 etc. They do make very decent use of the space but it not the same as the studio sleeper. Maybe I will check one out up close, maybe that will change my mind. Nice video though.

I like its a very good looking truck it dosen't look like all the other ones i seen one up close at the mid America truck show in Louisville Kentucky it had lots of room and storage and all the Amenities i wonder is there a bigger sleeper you can get
If you want fuel mileage, the Kenworth T680 is the way to go! We have a number of those hitting the ground here soon, so make sure that you're subscribed.
The only thing that I don't like, is the headlights they don't said traditional classic W9 headlights, but after that give me one with the 86 Studio and I'm sold👍
Totoyo.....I get it with the headlights, but the new design does a great job of getting light down the road. The 76 in sleeper doen't have the same amount of floor space as the 86" studio, but it does make a lot better use of the space that it has inside the cab.
As Tyrrell proved with their 6 wheeled F1 racecar, revolving wheels act as wedges, so the front bumper should be round off at the bottom, with deflectors in front of both wheels, and if you sorted the aero out underneath ,you could get these into the mid-7s MPG...then I'd be interested!
The 76" sleeper makes a better use of the space than the 86" in my opinion. You don't have as much floor space, but there's so much more storage and usable room....plus, with the passenger seat being able to turn around, it makes a huge difference.
@@KenworthofRichfield Been in one did not like it. Like I said I'm old school and trucks today are cheaply made and to expensive to own. Is there an option to lower the body closer to the frame? Seems to be sitting too high and I can already feel its body roll just by looking at it. We haul top heavy reefer containers up and down the rockies.
John, It's actually the same as the T680 in terms of height. In this, Kenworth just did release an option that lowers the front end a little over 2" which helps to get things down.
How on earth do you get a way with fitting that slab of steel as a front bumper? Any pedestrian wouldn't have a chance, neither would they appreciate the projecting, un protected, wheel studs on the steer axle. Doesn't safety matter in the USA?
Not a fan of the KW 990. I am a KW guy and would drive one if my boss buys them, but just don't like the way it looks. As others have said it looks like an International. Not sure why KW got rid of the 660 (a good "AERO" design) and made the 680 which is basically an 880. The 680 and 880 are the same truck. You have to look at the logo on the door to tell them apart. Not sure what the designers at KW are thinking.
Up close, it looks nothing like the 9900 honestly. The 660 was a great truck (just ask @driventrucking ). But as things move more and more to the 2.1m cab, this is how it'll work. Honestly, one close of the door of the new cab and you'll see how well it's built.
@@Military-Museum-LP You are right about the right to express your opinion. Just because Josh is a salesman doesn't mean that he's not going to have a one sided opinion. It is a very beautiful truck, I only have two questions that I really want you to answer, first of all, can an automatic transmission be ordered for this model? Secondly, can two bunks be ordered?
What’s the cost to operate that truck? I’m in the process of becoming an owner op, I’m going to get a kw no matter what, but it all depends on what the cost to operate is between the t680, the w990, and the w900.
It really depends on what you're doing with/hauling with it. Where, how you drive, etc will all come into play. If you're looking to make the most money, the T680 is the way to go. Definitely the most fuel efficient and it's a bit less expensive than the others to begin with.
Unfortunately, there isn't a couch option in the W990. The passenger seat swivels around to the table in the bunk though which to me, is a ton more useful than the couch. You never have to eat in your lap again. :D
Totally understand. It's why I made that point in the end of the video. If you want a W900, let me know as we can get you one. This is a completely different truck. :D
I don't think they dropped the ball at all on this. (yes, salesman pitch). As I mention in the video, if you want a W900, this isn't it. It's a very different truck.
@@KenworthofRichfield sorry to bother but can you give me a little hint on the day cab HH wheel base... or am I gonna have to wait like all the rest of the KW fans...lol
It should be lighter than a W900 and that would depend upon how it's spec'd. The 2.1 meter cab is suppose to be lighter than the 1.9 meter cab. I know there's definitely a difference between the cabs cause we have 2 trucks that are almost the same spec, just a different cab and lift axles and the 1.9 meter cab is 1000 lbs or so more than the truck with the 2.1 meter cab.
Engineered weight on this one is 18,434lbs. A 72" flat top W900 that we have here is 18,405....so the W990 does end up being a bit lighter....especially if you go with the studio. The couch has been replaced by the swivel passenger seat. It's nice to have the option of a table in the truck instead of having to eat your dinner in your lap. :D
I guess maybe its because I'm a younger guy, but I honestly like this truck. It has a blend of the older conventional look, which I like, but it also has the modern interior, which I defiantly would prefer over the interior on the conventional trucks. I can see how with the basic shape overall it does sort of resemble a international 9900i, but that really doesn't bother me.
Good looking truck. Like that they tried to keep some of the classic touches. Really like the modern tech updates. But 2 minor things I don't like. The headlights should be projector style or led. And the side windows in the bunk. Need to be frame less tinted glass. Loose the 70's aluminum frame. Would be interested in the motor/trans combination offered.
I like the truck but on the other hand I would like to be able to fix or keep it maintained on my own with out taking it to the dealer I’m looking for a something a little older such as a 1978 or 89 kenworth w900A or a K100 and both I want with a 500 bigcam with a 18 etan
The W9 is the best and best looking truck ever made. That being said this truck is bad ass and it appears from the video KW has done a magnificent job of integrating old with new. I can't wait to see one in person. This may just be the truck that gives you the best of both worlds!!
Yes, the the design team at Kenworth did a good job with adding some classic elements of Kenworth into a modern truck. I think some are failing to realize that the T680, T880 and W990 are the current modern trucks for the company. T660, T800 and W900 are still great trucks, but then again Kenworth still has to move forward.

There is no doubt that the w900 and the w990 are the two sexiest trucks on the road but if the 990 still had the classic air cleaners there would be no contest with the 900 in my opinion

It’s actually a really cool looking truck not my first choice of color or wheels but I liked it the very first time I saw it I would wait a year or two to make sure all of the bugs are worked out great job on the video as well 😎

Definitely true! modern, but pays homage. Thanks for watching John!
Tell them abut the dummy stack on the driver side
That's the latest on all KW..T880 same thing..
They’ve been doing that since the def bs came into effect. I drove a 2011 t800 daycab with the dummy stack. Pete does it too.
I've got a 2019 Mack day cab, at least both my stacks work.
@@jimbrown558 Lucky u are.
Who cares.
Drove the w990 last week when I saw it I really like that truck that will be my next purchase
We have one here if you're ready. :D
The W 990 is by far the best of all the 900's out there. The interior is amazing. I really like the back wall with the 2 storage compartments and
the open net storage in the center. The windows are nice, the freezer and closet space and TV rack and desk are beautiful. It's the prettiest truck next to
the W900L Aerodyne. I drove them with the 265" wheel base and love every minute of it. I noticed that the W990's are about 295" wheelbase or more.
I know they will be a little bit difficult to back a 53' trailer in a space. I don't know why they made a lot of them so long. I know the ride will be
phenominal but backing is going to be a little difficult. Other than that, I love them. I wish I could buy a new one today. What is the weight of a
new W 900 with a 72" areodyne sleeper truck. With no fuel in it?
I like it alot. Dream truck. I like the fact you can stand up next to the driver seat. Wish they would have updated the head lights.
What would you like to see for the headlights? I may have an answer as to what why it is the way it is.
Beautiful truck !! I'm a believer. Thank's for the briefing.
Why didn't they go with projector halo lights? The really cool ones.
Quite simply, it's the cab construction. The 2.1m cab will not mate up with the studio sleeper.
My biggest issue i have with this truck is it doesn't have the studio sleeper or the air cleaners like the w900 to me it doesn't look as good as the w900
I'm in love with it. It has taken a bit but overall it is a awesome truck blending old school long hood and a modern twist on it.
Agreed Wayne
I normally dont like new things. But the w990 looks pretty sharp
It's definitely a nice looking truck I think? :D
I hope I get to drive one soon after I grad with my cdl! Look out bandit and snowman... Here I come 10-4!
If they could find a way to make an 86 inch studio like the w900 and t660 I may would consider this truck.
@@richardblye3627 Thanks. For me, two things made the difference. Seeing it up close, and driving it. Once I drove it, I knew exactly what it was and where it stood. It's unique, and I liked it.
I love the kw brand but I'm w900 all the way not w990 maybe it'll grow on me but the classic look is way better and that's why it's still around.
Yup
Sinister ScatPack 392 I didn’t like it as my at first either. Especially after being up close, I love it. I don’t love the W900 any less. It’s a different truck that suits a different niche :)

Love the grill, truly an aggressive and imposing get out my way look. Believe it’s the new authoritarian truck on the market. Good job.
Love "authoritarian"!!!!
Truck looks great ! Will there ever be a bigger version of the sleeper like the 86inc studio ?
The 76" sleeper makes a better use of the space than the 86" in my opinion. You don't have as much floor space, but there's so much more storage and usable room....plus, with the passenger seat being able to turn around, it makes a huge difference.
@@KenworthofRichfield oh ok cool so it's really just like the 680 with table that comes out behind the passenger seat ?

Is there an option to lower the body closer to the frame? Seems to be sitting too high and I can already feel its body roll just by looking at it. We haul top heavy reefer containers up and down the rockies.
John, It's actually the same as the T680 in terms of height. In this, Kenworth just did release an option that lowers the front end a little over 2" which helps to get things down.
Right on, car hauler frontend and AG400L rears will be a sweet combination.
@@johnrusselllubo I like that idea.....
Reflector headlights BLIND oncoming traffic and don't illuminate as well for the driver compared to projectors. Why? Especially in 2020!
This guy doesn’t even know a classic W900a didn’t have flat front bumper.
How on earth do you get a way with fitting that slab of steel as a front bumper? Any pedestrian wouldn't have a chance, neither would they appreciate the projecting, un protected, wheel studs on the steer axle. Doesn't safety matter in the USA?
No we don't care about safety at all. Good reason for you to never come here.
Kenworth of Richfield. You can see by your comments your a salesman!! People have their opinions and the right to express them.
@@Military-Museum-LP
You are right about the right to express your opinion. Just because Josh is a salesman doesn't mean that he's not going to have a one sided opinion. Heck, our Kenworth salesman doesn't like the W990, but he'll still sell you one. Not to mention that when the T880 came out he wasn't a fan of that as well, but that truck has started to grow on him. He still likes the W9, T800 and T660 types of trucks. Kenworth is a evolving company and the trucks are evolving as well.
@@kevinsalmon6560
Yep, from the grille to the cab there all different. Other than the front axle placement of the W990. Same can be said about the T660, T800 and W900. From the grille to the cab there different as well and the W900 just like the W990 has a forward setting front axle.
@@kevinsalmon6560 Obviously by making the statement you made you know nothing about a Kenworth 680 and 880. They are "NOT" completely different and if you "ONLY" have a little difference on the fender and headlight, "THEN", basically you have the same truck just with different options. A "TRUE" KW man knows this and would not make a an uneducated comment claiming they are two totally different trucks. I understand they are driving towards the 2.1 cab but still no reason to do away with the 660. Not everyone likes a wide cab and the market should not be reduced to one cab and one truck. Kevin Salmon go get some KW education dude. With the world of automation on our heels we may all be out of a driving job.

The headlights are the main thing I would say that has to go. I would mold in some old school lights. The rest of the truck is good to go.
I get it, but there's a reason why the first thing that gets replaced on a W900 is the headlights. :D
Plus, look at the T680,T880 and T880S. There the new generation of Kenworth trucks and the W990 goes right along with those trucks. So it doesn't surprise me that Kenworth opted to go with the headlights from the T880S or even if they had came up with a different headlight design.
It's a pretty neat truck it's refreshing to see innovation and new design, instead of churning out the same ones stuff year after year. I'd like to see one in person.

Yes, I all about something new, bold and different. That's why when the T880 was announced I immediately sent the boss a message about that truck.
Front fenders need to be dropped about 6in on the hood. That would help tighten up the front end to make the hood look longer
There's an option now for a lowered front end :D
Kenworth of Richfield that's a whole separate issue that also needs addressed

Kenworth of Richfield good to know, thx!
Hey josh , I’m team driving in team and want to buy this but need 2 beds is this come with 2 beds ?
Can you get something similar to the W900L Studio Sleeper in the W990? Fold down upper bunk with the couch down below.
Unfortunately, there isn't a couch option in the W990. The passenger seat swivels around to the table in the bunk though which to me, is a ton more useful than the couch. You never have to eat in your lap again. :D

Tell me about the empty weight on that truck to compare the W900L & that 990
& what happened to the couch that the W 900L studio had & this doesn’t
It should be lighter than a W900 and that would depend upon how it's spec'd. The 2.1 meter cab is suppose to be lighter than the 1.9 meter cab. I know there's definitely a difference between the cabs cause we have 2 trucks that are almost the same spec, just a different cab and lift axles and the 1.9 meter cab is 1000 lbs or so more than the truck with the 2.1 meter cab.
The one truck that was at MATS, the Blue and Black one weighed 18,745 lbs If I'm not mistaken as its factory tare weight.
the w990 is the most beutiful rig ive ever looked at
It definitely looks nice!
Some people just can't get out of their own heads. Eventually, things move forward, and like you, I'm good with that.
The W990 has the same csb as T680 & T880 but with a different nose?
pure class don't know how Pacar do it continuously make the best even better The strongest longest life truck down under Aussie Frankie B
It's definitely a step in a different direction and a very, very good one at that.
Yes, yes, and yes x 4 :D
Yes, the the design team at Kenworth did a good job with adding some classic elements of Kenworth into a modern truck. I think some are failing to realize that the T680, T880 and W990 are the current modern trucks for the company. T660, T800 and W900 are still great trucks, but then again Kenworth still has to move forward.
What a lot of drivers don't realize...this is almost 2020..how can they keep building vehicles looking just like 1990 vehicles..some of us just can't accept change..I'm just hoping that they lower the CAB the 2018 too damn high..
