  • As a young Canadian teenager, Don Regier read Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a book by Harriet Beecher Stowe, which solidified his belief that war could never be justified. Don was a Mennonite conscientious objector, and when called to fight in the Second World War, he could not agree to pick up arms, no matter how great the cause. Regier decided to serve in other ways.
