Really blown away by Nathan’s ability to articulate what he does here. I’ve always used the “turn the door handle” phrase but never heard anyone else use it. Really cool to hear Nathan use it. His description of how he uses gravity and shoulder turn to get momentum and then incorporating the butt cap and hand/wrist motion for lag and spin is so good. And not focusing on the follow through but having it be more a natural result of the flow of a good kinetic chain is spot on.
The best two hand backhand video hands down!! Nathan explains things so honestly and clearly. Both are so informative, so good!! Thank you!! Best of luck Nathan and plz keep the videos coming!
Woah! Nathan that was awesome! Took notes and swung through the whole lesson. Playing every day this week so excited to work on the execution. Thank you for the great explanation of the feel and the details. Really insightful and helpful. And thank you Pete! Super lesson!
This is a great video! There are some really good tips here. I’ll be following Nathan’s tennis journey. I wish him the best of luck! Thanks for the video.
I love how Peter brings in other players and instructors to help out with the lesson. And Nathan has great didactic skills. When he finishes his pro career, I see a great future coach or instructor in the horizon.
I am so impressed with Nathan's explanations. He is phenomenal at presenting the individual details in a way that makes sense and is coming from a place of experience. Outstanding video.
This video changed my tennis in just one night. I applied what you guys said and now my backhand is not my weekness any more. Its become one of my most powerful shots. A million thanks!!!!!!
Intense. I love it. Need more Nathan. I would like you to get him to do “return of serve footwork” - for backhand body shot and forehand body shot. I think you have covered the typical forehand and backhand returns previously.
Come on, Pete. You have great instructional vids, but really, Nathan is the best. Keep it coming and good luck to Nathan. Please have him back for more.
could not refrain but to grab my racket and checked grips, swung, prepared etc. awesome articulation of principles in a few crisp clear sentences - so well understandable also for Europeans like myself :-) Please give us more!
It is the best two handed backhand for all amateurs. Right hand grip of Nadal, left hand grip of Djokovic and the path of the racket of Djokovic. The strings in each phase of the stroke naturally are directed were the ball should go. It limits angular errors. With these grips you cant hit the ball without spin even if you tried. I used these grips some time ago and probably I will change two handed backhand to that once more.
So I’m just on day 2 of using this as a basis to modernize my ground strikes and really liking it so far! At first it felt like I was hitting a 2hbh that resembled David ferrer’s forehand motion…then it felt like a competitive ping pong stroke. But wow when I yep it off the rise it feels so locked in. Bonus: it’s also helping with my slice and serve, since it’s reinforcing good spacing and extension.
We have a 2 hander at Next Level University. Awesome topspin Nathan! I'd love to see how you hit your 2HBH when you're pulled into the net on a short slice or even drop shot from your opponent and have a short court to work with but need to do enough with the shot to make sure you don't get lobbed or passed.
@@PeterFreemantennis ok I watched the full video and love the drill at the end. I'd love to see exactly what Nathan changes when he goes from hitting a 2HBH from behind the baseline to when he hits the 2HBH from inside the service line. He talks about more hands for more topspin. Is that more hand speed, more hand movement, a different hand movement? perhaps just slowing down the forward speed of your swing relative to the turn the doorknob speed of your hands?
just curious what string tension does Nathan get his racquets strung at? trying to get a better idea for when i do buy a better racquet later, kinda think i've settled on a babolat pure drive lite.
Another question. I know Djokovic and Nishikori does this. Any benefits to holding the non-dominant left hand higher up towards the throat? Does the space between the hands help you?
Would really add to instruction if Nathan could be shown in slow motion too when you feed him balls. I know it would add time to the video but also would really help viewers.
The problem I see with this drill is that the ball comes much faster and not from the side and 90 % of the times you are running not static ,is good to get familiar with the 2BH technique but not to a realistic situation in a match
Cesar I used to think that but the speed is not a problem if you control the racquet face like he shows. Coordination is everything and he is showing you how to do it here
From my experience, the 2-handed backhand's power comes from the dominant hand so that it's more like a 1-handed backhand than a left-handed forehand: ua-cam.com/video/ELEfNZrg-qw/v-deo.html
This is the best instruction on the 2HBH I have seen in years.
Agreed 👍

Beautifully articulated. Great job Nathan!

Nathan is very intelligent, his answers and explanation are spot on, he could be a great teacher and coach.

Nathan did a great job explaining and demonstrating.

Great video. Full backhand lesson! Excelent!
Peter: I love the way Nathan emphasizes hitting the bottom of the ball. Crucial.
Thank you for this Video! I 've never heard or seen so many helpful tips in one video! Brilliant. Of course, the player must have skills to use them!

All the steps are very helopful! Excellent!
Great video . . . learned alot. . . and I don't even hit a 2-handed backhand!
Letting gravity initiate that "pendulum effect" is so crucial....for one-handers as well. Great video, Pete!

Thanks Pete, Thanks Nathan :)

Great video!

Where to buy this ? 3:35. Its similar like topspin pro
Going to see what an eastern grip does for me. Thanks
good luck

Great video! Lag and snap butt cap uuuuuuuge! Lol
let me know if you have any questions on today's video
Can you bring Nathan back for insight on other strokes? He is unbelievably articulate about describing what he is feeling during the swing
@@jacksonlar he will be back...we shot another video yesterday
I heard Andre Agassi say the opposite. He said in his Udemy backhand instruction video he likes "hitting it with the back of my right hand".
Another question. I know Djokovic and Nishikori does this. Any benefits to holding the non-dominant left hand higher up towards the throat? Does the space between the hands help you?
i noticed that his racket is slightly angled at contact in contrast to most coaches where racket is vertical at this point
Which volkl racket is this?
Da playa explains well
I will subscribe if you have Nathan on it
why does he need to switch grips? on a semi western forehand grip, shouldn't you just "flip the hand" to be on eastern backhand grip?
good question...but his forehand and his backhand grip are a little different in their positioning so he has to change

Exactly even Andre Agassi said the same.
Good luck winning more tournaments.
Why doesn't he rock his backhand take bock higher so that he can get more of a drop???
I think ur getting ur grips confused , ur saying eastern but holding it western
We
Why are we not using the same technique that is used in baseball with our 2 handed backhand?
If you want to demonstrate a two handed backhand, don’t use an American player. Lol.
Great video!
