  • Through balmy summer days
That seemed as though they would never end
Basking in the light of the sun
That I thought would never set
Careless and free to do what I will
    The future a distant dream
Unaware of the shifting of seasons
I ignored the turning of leaves
    As the days grow short
I begin to see that time runs out for us all
(My mocking of time will be my downfall
The clock hands relentless, make fools of us all)
As the landscape changes, autumn will come
And soon the first snows will fall
(The leaves form a blanket of crimson and gold
The clouds block the light, plunge the world in to cold)
    Mourning childhoods end
Along with the loss of what this life could have been
(My failure to see what was in front of me
Destroyed any chance to set myself free)
    Grief encompassing
The time has come for me to repent for my sins
(I cry out in hatred, in anger despair
My words are frozen in the crisp winter air)
    Time has betrayed me
    Left me withered and frail
My hair and my skin are drained and left
    A ghastly shade of pale
The strength that once defined me
Has left me in my lifetimes dusk
Stripped of youth all vibrancy gone
    Reduced to a lifeless husk
In the winter of my life
I see how the time passed me by
And understand what they tried to say
When they told me how quickly it flies
I look back on wasted years
Before I face the reapers scythe
And wonder if I made myself proud
What did I do with my life?
    Time has betrayed me
    Left me withered and frail
My hair and my skin are drained and left
    A ghastly shade of pale
The strength that once defined me
Has left me in my lifetimes dusk
Stripped of youth all vibrancy gone
    Reduced to a lifeless husk
