If famed piano players like Billy Joel or Elton had been musicians in the band, they'd be hard pressed to create work as great as Roy's. What an immense talent and what feeling he generates from the 88 teeth.
It is incredible over the decades. Roy was a great catch back in 1975. I imagine it wasn’t an accident even then. All that said…. David Sancious was very talented in his place before Roy.
Yes, Roy brought a grandiosity that replaced Davey’s soul based jazz. Max Weinberg replaced the unpredictable combustion of Vini Lopez with a heavier predictable beat. Bruce’s sound was changed significantly with the new additions. It works for stadium concerts, but in doing so Bruce lost a quality that made his music special…less intimate and wild.
