That Interstate 470/Ohio 7 interchange is awesome! It's a diamond interchange with bypasses for the thru traffic on Ohio Highway 7. You only have to deal with the traffic light and the at-grade intersection if you want to switch from one highway to the other.
This is from y hometown of Wheeling, WV. I haven't been there in over a decade and this brought back memories. I remember being in junior high school right near the tri-level interchange of I-70 & I-470 when it was completed. Thanks!
My parents moved to Bethlehem 1/1/1970. They were still blasting the hill back then. We watched 470 being built from start to finish. I even remember them building the bridge to Ohio. Too bad so many houses and businesses had to be destroyed for this road to nowhere.
Ohio 7 can be a beautiful freeway as you head north as well. It's not as heavily used as other freeways in Ohio but I have been on it a few times north of Wheeling and the WVA border and I am glad to see this vid today! Great vids as always Jim!
Been through this stretch several times. Interesting bit of trivia. The Bellaire Toll Bridge you pass by at about 3:49, was closed in late 1990 and has been slated to be imploded for a good few years. Politics and red tape have kept it standing unused for over 25 years. And it will ring in 2017 unused, rusting, and still standing above the Ohio river.
Please help stray cats in Wheeling. Feed them and give them some water. People feed birds, rabbits. Cats deserve to be taken care of, all cats even stray and feral cats. They shouldn't have to survive without proper nutrition. They need shelters for the winter, and catnip toys. Help the outdoor cat population not only survive but have a somewhat enjoyable life at least
