This song was actually released by a band called Icehouse in 1982, so it’s 40 years old this year (where did that time go?). Since we are a country that sits in the Southern Hemisphere under the stars, the Southern Cross, this song brings us Aussies so much pride. The band’s original name was Flowers.

@@Camilian66 As I understand it they were called Flowers and when they tried to release their 1st album "Icehouse" in the US there was already a band with the name The Flowers and so they called themselves Icehouse..!

Besides it being a hit song. Australia is called The Great Southern Land because it is huge. Same size as your Country if you don’t count Alaska. The little Kangaroo’s on the beach were a smaller species called Wallaby’s.
