  • This week we uncover the last of our stops on our Rip off Britain motorhome tour.
    We stay on a farm campsite and enjoy the countryside and a some noisy racers!
    We make the decision that the Caravan and Motorhome club is no longer for us!
    Meanwhile, Redders is getting a bit more gassy than usual and goes through how he fixed our wonky gaslow system.

    I visited a large caravan club site in Chesterfield and the small shop was permanently closed i.e. bread & milk etc, basically only 2 staff to run the site, normally have 4 staff. A sign of charging more for less services, plus the pricing was excessive.

    35years of Caravan club (CAMC) albeit mostly rallies , but even they were getting expensive . Spent the summer using CCC temporary holiday sites , no facilities but £10 / £12.50 a night .

      Yes, it’s all becoming expensive isn’t it… but totally agree, temp holiday sites, independents and aires seem to be the way forward ! Thanks for watching the vlog and taking time to leave us a comment ❤️

    Hi, We agree with all Your remarks concerning the cc. We have been Members for about thirty years, they are not interested in their membership too many members and not enough sites We noticed a site in the N/E of England at £42.50 for a non awning pitch We now use independent sites as We don't camp off grid as We like our creature comforts.

    Have you tried the greener camping club? I recently had a nice week in Pembrokeshire 2 nights at a club site great facilities no Wi-Fi and was relatively expensive, that was Freshwater East. I wanted to stay near Dale so I Googled sites and Point Farm came up. Great little spot 3 pitches with electric hook up and glamping sheds and pitches for tents. The club was set up by site owners fed up with the Caravan and Motorhome club smaller sites with simpler facilities worth a try

    Hi guys, we totally agree about the caravan and motorhome club site and the ridiculous prices. They are now charging. In the first year of membership we stayed at one site and was so appalled by the attitude of the wardens, the lack of useful facilities and the exorbitant price of a pitch we decided never to use a dedicated C AMC site again. However, we do like the certified locations they have and find them and their owners to be wonderful. Great video, will subscribe and look forward to seeing more of your videos. All the best, Zoe

      Good morning Zoe, yes totally agree, prices have sky rocketed, we enjoy the smaller independent sites and aires, which are becoming busier whilst more expensive sites are becoming emptier … we have recently stayed at a lovely farm site for £16 a night, which was amazing , whilst larger sites charging 3 times that remain almost empty … , thanks for watching and leaving a comment ! Much appreciated ❤️

    Been following you a little while and so glad I did, this budgeting series is has been fab, I sent a PM which you responded with a lovely reply too! I’m with you on the wild camping especially if in the wilderness alone, if there are other campers we would feel more comfortable.

    Hi guys, be mindful of false positives from your gas detectors they can pickup other elements away from all combustible gases such as fairy liquid maybe after checking for a leak and sometimes your breath . I totally agree with you on your assessment of all the different types of places to stay. I also think the clubs are far too expensive now . All the best James

    Hi! Really interesting about the CAMC (collect as much cash) not being for you. When we first started out motor-homing we thought this was the only way. It changed names while we were members and as the membership fees went up every year, it took a while to realise they really are over priced for what you get. I had to complain to their HQ about a charge, after an over zealous area manager in Norfolk decided I should pay a whole nights stay for parking for 45 mins at the reception of one of their sites. After that, never again. I did wonder if having a membership log full of CL telephone numbers, whether or not those CLs would let you stay on their site WITHOUT being members?

    • @alanjackson4646
      @alanjackson4646 Рік тому

      To use a CL you must be a CAMC member, but they are a great option if you are off grid capable.

      We’ve found some great sites on pitch up that are very cheap. Our membership doesn’t run out until December, so we will try a couple of CLs but I honestly can’t see it being worth the membership fee I’d we can find very similar in pitch up. Thank you for watching

    Just for information you are not allowed to wild camp in Scotland, the wild camping rules only apply to tents.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  11 місяців тому

      Absolutely, yes I think we ( us ) are guilty of misusing the phrase wild camping, perhaps we should say overnight camping , the land reform act has made many parts more accessible, but as you correctly say applicable to tents ,we have stayed overnight at lochs / roadside and always give Scotland the respect it deserves, there is plenty to choose from ❤️ thanks for your comment , much appreciated 🙂

    I do not trust the automatic changeover to switch Gas cylinders. Prefer to manually switch on Gas bottles that way when i use the the other one it's time to start looking for LPG/GPL. Canterbury Park & Ride was £8 overnight only £4 to midnight with free bus into City also two water taps drive over gray waste for black you must lift the grid.

    I have the Gaslow on my 2003 van, I use to have the same system as you, but I changed it to two regulators and low pressure pipes, I find that keeping the high pressure in the tanks and not the pipes makes me feel better safety wise, I did this after I met a guy in Italy who had a high pressure hose from his tanks split and then the fridge ignited the gas, His high pressure pipe was in date. I know you were an ex Fireman so maybe you think I'm been silly?, I also like the idea that when one tank runs out (always in the middle of the night btw 🙂) I can change it over manually hence know where I am gas wise I then full up within a day or two to top the system up.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  Рік тому +1

      Hi and thank you for taking the time to comment ! Much appreciated, anything to make you feel safer is always for the best, the regulator serves to reduce the gas pressure, and depending on your system, any safe modifications can only be for the better !
      Our changeover is automatic, but when it does switch, the dial indicates red, showing it has switched and it’s time to recharge the initial supplying cylinder ! It’s quite a good system and as long as you check it regularly there shouldn’t be any surprises in running out ! Thanks again for watching and commenting 😊
