I wish I had known about this problem years ago when I worked for a mobile home park, they had a mower that did this I bet you that was the problem. Then just last year my John Deere s140 did the same thing at 230 hours just like the park mower 230 hours. I ended up messing with Governor settings on the s140 and blowing the governor up no problem easy enough to fix that. Anyways thanks for making this definitely good to know if it ever starts happening again on my s140 fingers crossed it doesn't
I’ve seen it a few times over the years. If you watch the full video on this mower I pulled the entire carb off and took it apart to clean it before I found the Welch plug missing. It’s more common on Briggs and Stratton Nikki carbs but since I’ve posted this video I’ve heard from a lot of people that have had this issue on the Kawasaki engines as well. I’ll post a link to the full video below. 👇 Simple Fix For a Surging John Deere X300 - Kawasaki FH491V 17hp #baldeagle242 ua-cam.com/video/QtCAehETLBE/v-deo.html Thanks for taking the time to comment. @@baldeagle242 The mower we used at the park was a Hustler with a Kawasaki I think it was the k750 could be wrong it's been a while since I worked there I always wondered what you call that little metal dome
Mine cuts great for about an hour, then acts like it's getting too much gas. Going to replace fuel filter, carb this weekend. Already replaced air filter and spark plug. Could it also possible be an intake manifold crack?
It getting to much gas means your float in the carburetor bowl is getting stuck mine did multiple times before few years ago all on the single cylinder Kohlers because the metal bowls corrode inside then cause the float to not work how it should they're replacement bowls are no good they'll last a few months then corrode float gets stuck open and stuck closed because the bowls corrode they're not made right and is why im not going to keep using Kohler single cylinder engines anymore so its not the gas thats the problem the problem is the metal bowls and how they're made the stuff that keeps them from corroding they don't have they've not been dipped
Guys trying adjusting the throttle cable when your engine is surging like this! I tried everything else and if you have as well try adjusting the cable and tighten down the bolt that holds it. Power purs like a kitten without buying it or changing any!
Its not always the little plugs. I got one in the shop right now...new carb, new fuel pump, new fuel, and i even isolated the entire fuel system from the engine and added a supplementary fuel tank and pump. No vacuum leaks. Still surging. Governor adjustment is perfect. No explanation. I work on these every day and would consider myself a Krackasaki expert. Fucking mystery.
Correct, the Welch plug fell out and it’s sucking air in causing the carb to run lean. Simple fix, just took me longer to catch it than it should have. 🤦🏻

Most of them have Welch plugs somewhere on them. The are part of the machining process to drill holes that are needed inside the carburetor and then the access hole is plugged.
I cleaned out my carburetor and then it started to sputter as it ran out of gas, blade running really slow. I put more gas in it and it quit. I took apart the carb again and now it wont start, im at a loss on how to get the damn thing running! Help!😢😢
@baldeagle242 I cleaned out the gas tank and took apart the carb and cleaned it out. Mower started fine, then started to slow down as it ran out of gas. I poured more gas into it and it leaked and wouldn't start. I took it apart again and cleaned it out, slapped it back together, no leak, but also not starting. First pul it sounded like it wanted to start and then just perking my arm out of socket to try to get it started. I've spent the past 3 days fooling with this Troy built mower. I bought it used off market place last fall because my Toro mower had a plastic piece break off the carb, so I bought a $60 used one so my grass wasn't a jungle for my small dogs. I'm beyond frustrated and stayed outside until almost 10 last night trying to fix it, which I thought I did fix it, just for it not to start today. I might be better off throwing it out in the trash and buying the part for the Toro online and waiting a week for the part to get here. It's taken my good mood down the toilet!
I might add that fire was shooting out the exhaust while it was running, it did that when I bought it but it still worked, so I kept cutting as much grass as I could. I got the front mowed and 1/4 of the back done before it got dark and ran out of gas. I'm the last person in the neighborhood to cut their grass. Mowing grass was my first job, so I like to have my yard look nice, not like hoarders live here. Snakes are prone to my yard so I like to keep it low because my dogs roam the yard. My hands are coated with gas and other dark things and cuts from fooling with this mower along with harsh skin. I'm by myself, and I thought I could get it running as I've fixed the cmcarb on my other mower a few times. I've researched and looked at all kinds of videos, even took it apart again thinking I put something on wrong, which it was correct. I didn't want to take it to get serviced and pay more for repairs than I did for the mower itself!

@williamsantiago7303 Yes, you can buy a kit with a plug in it but epoxy or even permatex gasket maker will do the trick.

Is it the vibration?
Vibration is generally a balance issue or something bent.
