I currently have a 10 speed 11-46 setup for my gravel (650b) and I'm planning for an upgrade to 11 speed Shimano Deore M5100 (11-42) or (11-51). Which of the two gear ratios is better? I ride 20kms daily on rugged asphalt and on weekends I do uphill.
Can i do 50t rear and 40t front?
If you are looking for stock like shift quality and better chain wrap in the small sprockets, just get a Eagle mech and swap out for the extra long cage.
Fifth_Ace eagle rear derailleur doesn’t talk to the apex shifters currently
I know, just use the eagle cage on any Sram road 1x mech, since they are all type 3.0 clutch its all interchangeable and a simple parts swap.
I‘ve done it twice and also chain tension is way nicer overall too, only needing a cheap crashed eagle mech.

@@fifthace2612 very interesting 🤔 so you're saying that even though the eagle doesn't have the same cable pull ratio, if I swap my Apex long cage for the eagle cage, keeping the Apex mech, it will perform better with a wide range cassette like 11-50
Ceramicspeed has a great video, showing how a cage swap is done.
That was the point where I thought if the cage is changeable an clutch type is the same, why not try an Eagle cage.

I just started using a kcnc 9-52t 12 spd cassette with sram eagle derailer (xx1 axs).
325 grams
Low range gears are 40, 46, 52. Top end gears have been very useful too.
Absolutebly worth every penny.

Yea I’ve had no issues with a 46 t cassette with this derailuer I have a video on it but you’ll probably need a new chain

I just got a new Checkpoint ALR 4, 2021. It’s a 2x10, GRX 400. I really wanted a 1x, but this was available and affordable in a scarce market. I also really liked the fit and ride of it. What parts would I need to upgrade to a 1x system for it?

The zitto cAn be but won’t be as strong as sun race if you don’t clean your drivetrain often
My Fargo doesnt have enough chain for the derailleur to clear the 50t it gets hung up 😔😔
That’s a easy fix most of the time you need more links
Nice one man! Very interesting to see that working! I wonder if dropping my chainring from this 34t down to 30t would leave enough chain slack to go from 11-42 cassette up to 11-50 without adding links/replacing chain. But then again, dropping to 30t and even an 11-46 cassette would be much lower gearing than my current set up.
If you‘re already willing to change out the cassette and chainring, why not invest that bit more in a new chain and have a overall brand new drivetrain?

It depends on chain length, so I’d try it with a new chain and see if it works

Sram apex has been my go to for a while and will work with that cassette without mods I have a video on it

Bro your derailleur is maxed out and too stretched. get a long cage and you will be all set. That derailleur is too short for your set up. Get a long cage.
