There was a LOT wrong with this show and how it played out. No fault of Gene's. Just.......a bad show. With bad gameplay. And bad execution. The one good thing seen here was that the bonus clock stopped while Gene would explain what the team needed to do in the bonus round, which in the early episodes the clock did not stop, which wasted time.
There *might* have been a good show somewhere if this was made better, but yikes... the production here was just slapdash on every level. The stunts are painfully poorly planned out, as you can see from how much of the time the one space quiz game took (and the contestant openly not being able to see the cue cards for the failed news game) and it asks for viewers to submit stunt ideas too? *And* they forced Gene to play this all straight, as if it weren't ridiculous?
@@ShamrockParticle It's just a terrible shame that a host as talented as Gene Rayburn was left with *this* as his swan song for so many viewers (given how limited the availability of The Movie Masters was.) I wish we had gotten that proposed 1985 Match Game revival with him instead, or failing that, if this Break the Bank had actually just been a revival of the Tom Kennedy/Jack Barry series, then it would have played much better to Gene's strengths.
Get your facts straight before you make such an accusation. He was told by producers to play it straight. Too bad he couldn’t be himself. You don’t know the whole truth. He was a fine host. The people in charge were idiots.
If you watch the earlier shows he had enthusiasm. But it seems like he gradually lost it and grew to hate the show, possibly once tensions grew with the producers.
Perfect example of a great host in a bad environment
Vermont is landlocked.
Beginning of the tape reminds me of DECADES channel
Gene Rayburn was good host.
Was this Gene Rayburn’s last week on Break the Bank?
That dummy is very funny. 🤣👍

Hint for home audience "They clown around"
Clues: Peanuts, Tickets, Barker, Lion, Trapeze and Clowns
Circus is the answer.
Who is that ventriloquist?

Totally agreed on all counts.
A little humor would have helped and Gene was a natural.
