For us trash bags & soap go into grocery. For home, this year we started breaking it down by 'home essentials' and 'home nice to have'. Home essentials would be things/services we must pay for to keep the house running like air filter, gutter cleaning, inspections, tools for things we do ourselves, etc. Home nice to have is nonessential house items like decor, flowers, furniture. We expect to spend in both categories but this breakdown helps me know exactly how much we need in emergency fund to cover essential home expenses.
I like that! I’ve been thinking of having a home maintenance fund and a separate home decor fund-similar idea just different names
First comment, I’ll take it. Love your work and passion with sharing your story and helping others improve their financial situations.
Thanks so much!!
Great video 😊

Great look to the new budget! I accidentally deleted my budget spreadsheets when I was trying to make room in Google!!!! 😮 I ended up signing up again with YNAB. Not sure if I’ll keep it after the year is up but needed to get back on track quickly! ❤
Oh no 🙈 glad you’re back at it now 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My property taxes are due in Nov blows the budget. don’t sweat the small stuff progress not perfection. As they say S happens. As for Cali Palo Alto here… and once I leave this State I shall never step a toe back to my place of birth. This State has become such a cess pool.
I’m glad Miles is ok! Those emergency vet visits are never cheap.
We just do all of our household products in our normal grocery budget, but I do think it would be interesting to break it down and see how much is actually food versus household products.
Thank you! It was such a bummer because we put up decor for my daughter’s half birthday and he got to some of it! 🥺 but lesson learned and he’s doing great now 😸

What does it mean to pay yourself first? Like spending money?
Pay yourself first is money that you’re sending to savings and investing!
Hi thank you for the video very motivating. I want to make video while sharing my screen how did you record please? Any tips
Glad you enjoyed it! I screen record using the QuickTime Player on my MacBook
I have 2 categories: Groceries & Eating Out. Groceries covers anything I buy in a grocery store (food and toiletries). I don’t want to go through my receipts and separate those.
Then I have a sinking fund “Home” that covers all decor, furniture, home projects, etc. If we save up for a project, that’s where the money goes.
