I have no idea what kind of Catholic Church this guy went to. It is not about doom and gloom at all. Catholics do not think the purpose for life is suffering
I'm a little surprised that a self-described traditionalist Catholic would say that the purpose of life is to suffer. That is not what the Catholic Church teaches. If you read older catechisms, such as the Baltimore Catechism (which many self-described traditionalists love), it states things like: 6. Q. Why did God make you? A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next. The Catholic Church does teach that suffering can bring good and can help us learn fortitude and courage, and allows us to unite ourselves to Christ's suffering on the cross. I am disheartened that you left the fullness of the truth that is contained in the Catholic Church, and I pray that you will once back come back home.

the rcc teaches that you must earn your salvation. purgatory for example. Jesus NEVER taught this.
@ Matthew 16:27 read that about earning. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 read that for purgatory. Also read the whole sermon on the mount. I believe you might think salvation is not given so freely.
J S didn’t Paul say something like work out your salvation with fear and trembling? Not that salvation is ever earned. Only grace can save, and only grace even makes works possible
Hi, I’m a Catholic and I just want to say I am so sorry on behalf of your bad experiences in the Catholic Church. I converted to Catholicism and can def relate to Jimmy’s experiences feeling distant from his family during a period of conversion. I do have to say that I hope you realize that the priests who called you when you were thinking about leaving the church that they devoted their life to likely did it out of love and devotion to the 2,000 year old church. The Catholic Church, like the LDS Church, has many flawed people, but the true meaning of the Catholic Church is to find truth and relationship with God and not to live a life of pain or suffering. God bless you, I wish the best for you.
@@jabiraht2951 what the Church teaches is the meaning of suffering. Not that we should suffer. Our Lord Jesus Christ went thru suffering. Sooner or later we all go thru suffering.
@@levironald9322 there is no inconsistency. Here might be a video you might find helpful to understand what Catholics think about suffering. Nobody likes suffering but we pick up our crosses just as Jesus did. ua-cam.com/video/WhivUtZhdRI/v-deo.html
@@ashleyj97 Catholic priests have no authority to teach in that manner. A bishop wears a pectoral cross as a sign of his Authority. A Priest has no such thing. There are priest that believe in abortion There are priests who believe in gay marriage There are priests who do and teach all kinds of things. If they are not in union with the Magisterium, they are null and void.
@@PInk77W1 I can completely support what you're saying. People have the ability to preach what they will, after all we all have our agency. But it doesnt mean it reflects what they SHOULD be preaching. The only reason I made my comment is it seems to be accepted by many catholics that the purpose of life is suffering.
@@ashleyj97 suffering is good because God came down from heaven to suffer and save us. Suffering is all around us. To win a gold medal in the Olympics u have to suffer thru years of training. To have a baby u have to suffer child birth. To get a PhD at Harvard u have to suffer the homework. So suffering is good. But it’s not the purpose of life.
I am also a recent convert. Grew up Catholic, lost my way spiritually, and found my faith again through the Book of Mormon and prayer. Thank you for bearing your testimony, much appreciated. Love you brother.
J S purgatory is a place where we are cleansed of our sins before entering heaven, and can be avoided if we lead a holy life on Earth. It has nothing to do with how Catholics live our lives or what “the purpose of life is”
Sorry but that's very hard to believe with how very ignorant, inhospitable, intolerant, and ill mannered, vicious behavior I've seen with most catholics. That's my experience anyways and I do know, even as ex catholic, that there are some decent and kind catholics. I just personally haven't seen much in all my years.
I'm a Catholic from SE coast Georgia, and I'm sorry Jimmy's experience has been what he says it was. I I don't know of any Catholics here who have a dislike for Latter Day Saints. We go to the same schools and work out at the same gym. We love them and they love us, I think, because neither of us tries to change each other. It's like a respect that doesn't want to change the other. Jimmy, if it's the Holy Spirit that has moved you to LDS, then I'm 100% for it. Let's continue to pray for each other. In Christ, Father Jim, St Simons Island
Thank you for your comments . As a life long LDS member, I grew up around Baptists and now I live around a lot of Catholics. I learned to appreciate all these Christian churches and trying to help us get closer to Jesus Christ. I have faith in the end , those of us who are sincerely trying to do what God wants us to do, we will receive the blessings of salvation and Jesus’ atonement will help us do that.
Praying for your reversion Jimmy! Catholics believe in Heaven, we are so overjoyed knowing that we will be with Christ in the eternal life!! I understand your love for Mormonism! Some of the most loving people I know are LDS. But Christ instituted the Catholic Church. I hope that you decide to some study on the early church fathers and see for yourself the church Christ left is holy and Catholic.
I raised catholic, and I was a Cathequist for three years. I was happy with the Catholicism. My mother was an example to me. She was a very devoted person. She always was telling me that she wanted all her 11 children to be seal with her for all eternity. I never understood her desires. On 1982 she had a car accident and died. I was devastated the way she died! Soon after her death she came in dreams crying and telling me to find The Church of Jesuchrist. She pointed to a beautiful garden full of tiny lilac flowers, and kept crying. My aunt invited me to go to a catholic retreat. The room was packed with reverent people. The service was very spiritual. I had a beautiful experience seeing a baby blue book with an angel with a gold trumpet on the top of the front page in my right hand. On my left hand I had a bouquet of lilac flowers. I could not understand that vision at all! Months passed and I was not feeling well. I got sick, because I missed my mother very much, and I was depressed thinking the way she died. On June 1982 I was working in a boutique close where I lived. One day two young men came in to talk with the owner of the boutique. She was not there. I was crying, and they asked me why I was crying. I told them the story. They asked me if I want to be with my mother in the eternity. Wow! I stopped crying, and I opened my eyes. I said: "how can I do that"? They explained to me The Plan of Salvation. I was astonished! I sent them to my house to share that with my children. My two sons were in the Jesuits College, and they were having problems questioning the school principal why the catholic church doesn't have a prophet and apostles? They never gave them the correct answer. Because of that they told me that my sons had no place in that school. I put them in the public school. As soon I got home from my job, I prepared a good dinner, and they told them everything about the LDS church. My sons stood us and embraced me telling me that I can be seal with my mother for all eternity. We enjoyed their testimonies. They left with the promise of sending two young men to teach us the Gospel of Jesuschrist. Two weeks later they came I gave to us a blue book with an angel with a trumpet in the front page. I could not believe! That was the book that I had the vision! It was The Book of Mormon! Soon after the first lesson my son felt the Spirit, and told them to be baptized. Then in my son's baptism, his brother felt the spirit and told the Missionaries that he wanted to be baptized, and later my daughter. We were attending meeting in an old house. A new sacrament meeting house was in construction. We were baptized in the new building. Next Sunday we went to the new building first time. What a beautiful surprise when I saw two bouquets of lilac flowers on both sides of the stage! The same flowers that my mother showed me in the dream that I had. They are not coincidences! The Book of Mormon is true. I have no doubt of it at all! I have been a member for 37 years. I am the most happy person in the world! I know that outside are many churches, and I know that The Lord has a plan for us all, and there are many different stage and glorious mansions in heaven. The beauty of this is that our Heavenly Father gaves us the gift of the free agency!
Jimmy, I felt truly sorry to what you have experienced with the "Catholic style parenting". Personally, as a Catholic close to the traditional Catholic practices, I would say your parents are not practicing the real Catholic teachings I have once dated a mormon boy, and this is the reason why i started interest to research in mormon faith. I watched the "General Conference" videos, read Book of Mormon, browse the LDS church website. there are things which i found truly attractive from the LDS church, the teaching of "temple marriage", "family in heaven" are the doctrine that I found wonderful, and from what i have witnessed the LDS church community as one of the best type of community that i would like to join, it is warm, friendly, and LDS people are wonderful. in contrast, back in my Catholic parish, there are times where i felt less welcoming as Catholic youth are normally not as engaged to the church as LDS youth. This is why LDS church is truly attractive to me. But at the same time, as long as i read more LDS teachings, i noticed the similarities and difference our church doctrine uphold. The difference forced me to research the Catholic history and teachings, and other denominations' teachings. At that moment, I found the Catholic church is the only church i believe as the truth. I am not trying to convince you that catholic church is true, but i wish you have gone through the same process as me and learn about your own church. if you found that LDS church is the church you truly believe as the truth, congratulations as I am sure you are in peace. I wish you find true peace in where you belong, and will surely pray for you, and please pray for us Catholics as well
One day all the righteous will be united under the Church of the Firstborn and what truth and light we all have recieved and how we lived it, will determine whether we are worthy to live and be apart of this church at the time of Christs second coming.
I’ve been looking at different religious churches for the last 3 years and I haven’t felt “at home” in any of the churches. The moment I started studying the Mormon church and the Mormon religion and the teachings of the Mormon Church, I started to feel peace and comfort and in all honesty, I started to feel “at home”. My mother doesn’t care where I go to church, as long as I continue to believe in Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father. Now I just have to speak with my twin sister....
I'am a convert myself and I stand for what I have known to be true about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Your dad now is happy for your decision to accept the Gospel in your life. I appreciated your sharing of your testimony.
What an awesome conversion story! And so powerful! I especially love the part where he snuck out of the house....that is dedication to truth!!! Thanks for sharing. I am a lifelong Mormon that has struggled to become active again after 20ish years of rebellion.....however, hearing your story made me realize how much I take the church and my church family for granted. Keep up the good work sir!!!
JImmy is so right! My then boyfriend (now husband ) joined the church and his family was very angry. His mom showed up to his baptism screaming and swearing. When we got married in the temple his family disowned him (us). She called the temple at screamed and swore at them. Fast forward many years and some members have joined now, his mom has not but she would take my children to her local LDS ward when they spent the night with her. We have a wonderful relationship now and she loves the church . She had a massive stroke and now can not speak etc. Hopefully in the next life she will want to be baptized but the relationships are all strong and healed now. I would hve never seen that as possible but always hoped!
Please don't be deceived. Latter-day Saints worship a different Jesus than orthodox Christians. It is good to love them, but we must also tell the truth. Because if we love them then we will want them to be saved. It's not looking down, but being honest.
I was feeling down...I always have a bad week right before General Conference...this video really spoke to me. Hearing Jimmy's conversion story reminded me of my own. You guys are great! Love you!
Ps: the comment he made at the end about Joseph Smith was so true. Before you can see the light, sometimes you have to walk through the darkness in faith and hold onto “the iron rod” to stay on the covenant path in times of darkness. And the same thing that happened with Joseph happened to me, Satan came to me first before I came to Christ. The difference is that I submitted to Satan for 11 years before finally seeing the light. Jospeh saw it in seconds after calling out and praying in the sacred grove. I believe that is another testament to Joseph’s unwavering faith and how he truly followed the instructions of James 1:5-6!!
I don’t think he came from a true Catholic family. “Wear black robes in Church”? Wow! I haven’t seen that in my church and I believe I’m a traditional Catholic. Praying for you Jimmy!
Christina Garcia not even. No altar servers wear black robes. They wear white albs. The only black robes that could be worn are Cossacks work by priests, and even then that’s incredibly rare nowadays.
I was a cradle catholic! Baptized and confirmed too. Finally left it my sophomore year of college. I wanted to stay in the umbrella of Christianity and none of the churches I went to really clicked for me except a non denominational one. I went there for awhile until COVID and I had to move home. I recently discovered LDS church and I love learning more!! I really needed to hear all this. Thank you so much 💕
Shandi Renee have you ever heard of catholic answers? I was a Protestant who also left the Catholic Church because I believed it to be wrong. Catholic Answers convinced me otherwise. I’d check them out if I were you :)
Wow your experience almost like mine, but mum goes to another church too cut the stories short, she even didn't want to come to my house because I'm a member of the church but she saw many beautiful examples she witnes during one time she came to stay with me, she felt the love we have in my family, cut more stories short just b4 she passed away I ask her if she would want the missionary from my church to give her she finally accepted then day after she passed away in peace I know that this is the only true church on earth, thanku for sharing your beautiful testimony brother love you this testimony is all the way from New Zealand, Wellington
As many others have mentioned here, his statement about the Catholic Church being all about suffering is just over the top... The Christian Creed everywhere is about the Cross.... and the Resurrection. Peace to you, Jimmy.
Loved the reminder that the spirit is what drew you to the Church of Jesus Christ at the time when other religious offerings were not answering your questions or meeting your needs. And the reminder that God uses our experiences for our benefit and growth even when they feel like pure chaos and confusion at the moment!
This really made my day. I am going through the same situation, but I am striving to do better with the hands of our Heavenly Father and having faith in him. Thanks!
Hot Dog Man I heard they travel and call out lgbt people and stuff like that. And I know that stuff isn't what God planned for us, but there is no need to hate.
This is my story of joining the church: When I was little I would go to church with my family, I think we jumped around with churches but I was little so I don't know. After some time me & my older brother stopped going to church, I think he went to one a few years later but he didn't join it & hasn't been to any church since & I don't recall going to any church after stopping. In 2015 or 2016 I got a *Book of Mormon* which I may have started reading but stopped & a few days after getting it I became sick, in late 2016 my grandma died & a few months after that some missionaries showed up looking for my dad who was gone. The missionaries asked if I wanted to talk at which point I said no so we started talking & I started taking lessons, on February 11, 2017 I was baptized into the church. I don't pray that much but I think that is due to me not going to church for years but honestly if God wants you, he will come for you. I was looking into the LDS Church off & on as I was watching Mormon UA-camrs but I can't say I would have made the jump to convert on my own, I would have mostly just followed it without being a member.
If you want a calling you have to seek one out. I will be honest I don't like how the church just make all male members holders of the priesthood & I don't like how the church does baptisms.
5zazen I am sorry you feel like you are not part of the group. I have lived in the South and in the West. I have noticed that there are differences in both places that I like and that I dislike. I believe the cultures have something to do with it. There have been people who have been kind and those who have been unkind. However, I know God loves me and I have felt his love for me as I attend church and listen to the messages. The Holy Ghost has touched my heart and filled me with joy to help me through the week. I have a neighbor who has always been serving someone in little ways for the past twenty-five years. He would cut a single ladies lawn or bring cookies to you. We have just become better friends with him and his wife because they started inviting us over for dinner once a month. I know that they had struggles in their family life but it has been good to see how they are doing much better as a couple. I believe that serving others has blessed them to see each other in a better light. I think the best calling we have is the one where we visit each other and find ways to serve them. I have family members who have had every calling possible and I have had the same ones over and over. I have decided to learn to do it better with love. If you desire to serve, ask your Bishop if there is something you can do to help. My dad has been asked by his Bishop to fellowship a few people in their ward. It has been interesting to watch him befriend people he would have never gotten to know otherwise. My dad is in his eighties, he has been a Stake President, a temple sealer but this job can be the most challenging and yet the most rewarding. Not knowing your true situation, I hope you find the answers you seek. I know that the Book of Mormon has many promises in there that we all can receive if we keep his commandments. That is the hope that brings me peace and helps me to do my best to serve. Have a great day.
Thanks so much for your channel... there have always been 2 things that invite the Spirit and feeling of Heavenly Father's love into my life...they being, Conversion stories and beautiful music. I wake up most mornings trying to start my day off with my focus on the gospel and Savior. Often, i do that by listening to a Conference talk or BYU devotional on youtube...this wonderful Saturday morning i found Jimmy's and Elaine's conversion storires and i couldnt have hoped for a better way to start my day. Helped me remember my own conversion and just how much Heavenly Father loves me. Loves all of His children....Mahalo and Aloha.
Great video! I have a similar problem with my parents. They are atheist and I have heard them say derogatory things about Mormons. I know they love me but I don't want them to think I am brainwashed. I think they will handle it well though. The LDS church has helped me improve my life and to give me hope. What parent wouldn't want that for their kids? Again, great video.
Brendan my hubby was atheist and 4 years after joining LDS church from Being a sometimes catholic he actually joined too by leading by example your parents will see you r a happier human being :)
Please don't be deceived. It's really the walking dead in the Mormon cult so many people striving for Truth end up leaving because of all the lies. If you go do ask yourself how Much Jesus are you receiving there? Because you can lie to others but never yourself
I pray for all the Mormons and those who reject God the Son of the Father. I wanted to join but I thank God for His Grace to remain in Him In His Holy Catholic Church. The Devil has his plans for the righteous. I fear only bad Catholics who condemn themselves, by committing apostasy. God the Son warned and give us His Church, The Chair of Peter, and the Twelve, The Early Church Fathers to protect Her. I realised I had to reject Jesus God the Son and His Word Scared Scriptures and the Only Bride of Christ (The Catholic Church) then accept erroneous doctrines of Jesus of the Mormon church who is a creature !!! which is false and full of erroneous errors. I thank Heavenly Father for His Saving Grace and Great Glory Lord God Heavenly King, Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ for the Grace to see how false the Mormon LDS Church really is. How sad that the dark people in this cult think that a prophet says your worthy what about your grandfathers weren't they worthy too. What makes you different. How great the fall from a false prophet. Priests never go anywhere alone they either take a chain of Soul to Heaven or drag them all to Hell.
Louise Hunt Peter and the Apostles did not keep the offices of Apostle filled faster than they became vacant. Thats why the highest office of the priesthood in your church is Bishop. Bishops are local leaders, not Apostles. One office of the everlasting priesthood do not succeed any others. Once the offices of Apostle was completely vacant there was no longer an authorized priesthood order on the Earth. The “Catholic Church” hasn’t had authority to administer the will of God ever since. Any Church protesting from the Catholic Church yet retaining the traditions of functioning without Apostles ordained by Apostles before them is as unauthorized as the Catholic Church is today. The authority had to be restored to Earth by those who last possessed it. Those who last held the keys to the authority to administer the Church returned them by personally transferring them by the laying on of hands to Joseph Smith and other Latter-day Saints in our last dispensation (this “age” of the Earth). Only through angelic ministering by the resurrected men could the authority to administer the Church exist among man on the Earth. It is the marvelous work and a wonder that Isaiah the prophet wrote of. It is the stone cut out of the mountain without hands that Daniel saw while interpreting King Nebuchedneezer’s dream... The Catholic Church is not an authorized church of Jesus Christ today.
Berkey Family God has revealed to His One and Holy Apostolic church. Those outside the Church who are true truth seekers will eventually find themselves in the Catholic Church. We are one body in this one Lord. Jesus choose the 12 Apostles not man. And to fulfil the requirements of a Apostle scripture supports they had to choose one person who had been living and a disciple from the beginning and with them up to the time of His Baptism and Accession into Heaven. Which one of your so called apostles can fulfil the word of God? Mormonism was birthed out of the distorted truth of Protestants. Check your history. You may not believe in the one and only Bride of Christ which is the Holy Catholic Church on Earth but you will when your die.
Thank you for sharing your story. Very Powerful! And very encouraging! I can't imagine disappointing my parents let alone my church leaders for changing churches. I admire your courage. Thank you for your example.
Thank you Jimmy for your story, faith and testimony, that was fantastic! You three are wonderful witnesses for Christ and His Restored Gospel. Keep up the great work guys!
Yo I just wanted to apologise on behalf of the Catholic Church for the experiences you had. Traditionalist Catholics don't reprisent what being Catholic is actually like nor do they show Christ's love. It must have been horrible growing up in that environment. None of the things that you said they taught you are actually believed by the mainstream Catholic Church. I'm glad that you've found happiness finally.
No, the Catholic Church is loving. If a Catholic person is mean to you, its just because they're mean, not because they're Catholic. Its the Traditionalist Catholics who don't show Jesus' love.
Obviously you guys don’t know the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church treats people with love and is always there for you, AND donate the most out of any organization in the world.
Liv Luketina-Giffney God isn't about our happiness. God is about what is good, true, and beautiful. Those lead to true happiness. The LDS isn't God's Church. To be in it is to accept lies.
How ridiculous. You have no idea how traditionalist Catholics operate and to suggest that traditionalist Catholics are all how he states his father is is ridiculous. I am a convert to Catholicism, and I consider myself a traditionalist. Traditionalists are some of the most beautiful, loving, Christ-like people in our Church, and they embrace the theology of our Holy Catholic Church.
I feel like he has so much raw pain inside of him but the fact that he is following his truth in spite of such huge emotional obstacles demonstrates nothing but absolute pure, untethered spiritual courage!!! I'm kind of in the same position now (I'm a 35 yo catholic), except I'm not yet baptised into the church... No one in my family really know "what I'm up to" .... I pray I can be as strong as this lad
My mom was the only member in her family. God needed her to do their work and he will use you to do the work for your family. That is how loving of a God we have. Pray for your dad to accept it in the next life. I continue to pray for my family that have passed on.
My parents, both members of the church, were born and raised catholics. My dad's side are what i can say luke-worm catholics and my mom's side are devout catholics. When they join the church 3 weeks after they started taking lessons from the missionaries, my grandparents on my dad's side were not happy at all about it and gave them the hardest time about it. One day, my dad had enough, put his foot down, and said "keep it up and you'll never see your grand daughter (me) again!" They stopped after ward because they didn't want to loose me since my cousin and I are the closest out of 7 grand children they have at the time and they became supportive of that. In fact they came to my baptism when I was 8. My grand parents on my mom's side were.... eh. Like my grandfather, being very devout and raised my mom, my tia, and my tios in a way that's similar to some of our church's standard, was happy for my mom because he saw how much happiness it brought her and that's all he wanted for her. Now my grandmother, um..... she isn't the most positive person ever. So for my mom that didn't get along well and wasn't close with her growing up, she didn't really didn't care of what my grandmother says. Although they were also there for my baptism.
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you, to Jimmy. I've been investigating the church for about a year or so, and I told my mother about it and she seems ok with it. But I'm scared of my dad. They're divorced, so it's an even stickier situation. I really really needed this video. I needed the help with telling my parents. Thanks Jimmy! +3 Mormons GREAT NEWS! I was sitting on the bus and the spirit just guided me to text my dad about it. He was open to it and simply just said "do your research". :)
Hi Jimmy, 3 Mormons, and any Mormon Missionary kind enough to read my appeal, Please help me. I’m a Catholic who’s been exploring Mormonism, who’s been praying about it, and the more I read about Mormonism, especially from the testimony of converts, the more confused I become. First off, I have read a lot (believe a lot) of materials published by LDS organizations about Catholic converts to Mormonism and they are all poorly done. Jimmy, I’ve listened to your interview multiple times and you weren’t Roman Catholic. You seemed to have belonged to an ultra-conservative/traditionalist branch split off group that calls themselves “Catholic” but they’re not Catholic. Catholics are in communion with the Bishop of Rome. I don’t think you’re church was. I notice that LDS materials about “Catholics” converting to Mormonism were largely based on schismatics’ stories. To illustrate, should I equate your LDS community to Warren Jeffs and the polygamy for everyone group? Because that’s what a lot of Mormon materials do when they falsely depict Catholics. My advice to y’all, stop the crappy, lazy incorrect nomenclature. You say your church taught “the purpose of life is suffering.” That’s not at all what Catholics believe. We believe the purpose of life is to love and to serve God, our brothers and sisters and all of creation. And I honestly believe that something we have in common with LDS. Here’s what the very first chapter of the Catechism says: “The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for: The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. He cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator” You say “Catholics just don’t like Mormons.” That’s also a pretty silly statement. Some Catholics might not, but really it’s just we think you’re wrong and we find Mormon missionaries pretty smug. There’s a difference between not liking and disagreeing on questions of theology. And we most certainly do disagree on some matters of theology. Jimmy, you mention the LDS concept of Plan of Salvation. As Catholics we call that progression evident in scripture Salvation History. It’s Catholic 101 they talk about in CCD class, the fact you didn’t pick that up from the get go means you had some poor catechesis. So don’t call yourself a “former Catholic.” Call yourself a poorly catechized former “Catholic”. That’s not your fault, that’s a legitimate issue we’re facing in the Catholic Church. Just as record high levels of concealed depression and anxiety are a legitimate issue women in the LDS community face due to unrealistic perfectionist expectations forced upon them. And that’s not anti-Mormon polemics, it’s a major issue Mormon publications talk a lot about. That said, LDS deserves credit for its commitment to strong families and clean living free of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Mormons also have some the highest life expectancy rates of any group in the country, largely because of the strong community bonds and clean living. However good these behaviors are, that doesn't make them derived from God. There are plenty of cults that espouse clean living (I do NOT view LDS as cult, it is definitely a legitimate religion that should be respected as one but also open to honest criticism). I agree, the whole argument about bees not being in the Americas at the time of the events depicted in the Book of Mormon is a bit weird. But it hits on my major stumbling block with Mormonism. Look, can I see those plates Joseph Smith translated from? Is there any non-Mormon or externally agreed upon evidence that we can use to corroborate the origins of the Book of Mormon? Can any non-Mormon scholars confirm the existence of such a thing as Reformed Egyptian, the very language the Book of Mormon was supposedly composed in? The answer is no. Frankly, the language of the Book of Mormon is obviously composed by somebody who read a lot of King James style English, not someone fluent in an ancient Near Eastern language. And yes, I’ve read excerpts of the Book of Mormon from LDS missionary materials. My other huge issue with Mormon convert stories is they rely solely on feelings which they call “truth.” Jimmy you repeatedly say “if you know it’s true, then you know it’s true…” “Keep doing what you know is right…” You see, here’s my problem. You rely on that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that tells you it’s true. Schizophrenics might dress like batman and say “it’s true, I’m batman” because they feel they’re batman. That doesn’t make them batman. Can you give me some hard, verifiable, maybe, historical evidence that’s compelling enough that makes LDS “true”? Because that kind of testimony is woefully lacking in all these LDS conversion stories. There’s a lot of fluff and little Logos. The historical reality is Mormonism emerged in America in the 1830s during a period of religious hysteria called the Second Great Awakening, in which Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were pretty active participants. The whole translating the plates through the hat, that wasn’t novel. There’s a well recorded history of whacky American folk Protestantism that did things like that during that period. Refute me here: as a Catholic, I can look at a wealth of Early Christian writings dated to the first and second centuries AD that describe Catholic liturgy and teachings to the tee. I can go to Rome, in the Catacombs where the first century Christians celebrated Mass during the persecutions of Nero, Trajan, and Diocletian. The art, iconography, and prayers these first Christians left us in these Catacombs is the same art we have in our Catholic Churches. I would encourage you to lookup the writings of the St, Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Tertullian, etc. Sorry, it’ll be more than 7 pages. If you’re up for the challenge, you’ll find the Church these first Christians describe looks a lot like one in Rome. I challenge you to convince me otherwise. Establishing the truth of LDS Church doesn’t depend on warm, fuzzy, feelings. It depends on the concept of the Great Apostasy; that the early Church deviated early on in its history. Now, is there any historical record of that? There is a well-trodden path of Protestants that have gone on this journey of digging through early Christian writings to identify this “Great Apostasy. Those Protestants ended up Catholic based on what the historical evidence presented (see Bl. John Newman, among many others). God Bless and work on seeking truth that’s draws from the Logos and is not dependent on warm fuzzies. So, rectify my confusion: Given the historical record, what are your rational reasons (beyond emotions and clean living) that explain the truth of Mormonism?
Tribesman2010, I really appreciate your comment, and your respect for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In regards to your first question, I appreciate you describing the difference between the different Catholic beliefs. I wasn’t aware of that. It’s frustrating when people equate Warren Jeff’s “religion” to the LDS church, so I can definitely relate to your frustration there. In regards to what I think was your 2nd question...may I answer with a question? What would happen if we DID have the plates Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from? Because of the nature of how the Book of Mormon was brought about, wouldn’t that dissipate the need for faith? There’s purpose to God restricting what is given to us with undeniable proof, and that is the need for his people to practice faith. ALL Christians need to practice faith. There is no undeniable evidence that the events in the Bible actually took place either. God designed it this way for a purpose. Faith is important. Hebrews 11:6, 4:2. Ether 12:6, 12
Hello, I am LDS and believe God wants to commuicate to all of us through His Holy Spirit and with study, prayer and faith He will do so on His time, if you desire it. For for some "warm fuzzies" and "emotion" are part of that, though I would submit that when the the Holy Ghost speaks to your soul, it is not a trite thing. How do you know it is God through his Spirit? All I can say is you know. Hope you are well!
I have been raised catholic all my life and been going to private (catholic) schools all my life and never have heard a story like this most catholic families I know do not act the way this guys family did i see nothing wrong with his decisions he made but I find it kind of sad that he was raised this way
Jimmy, I'm from Georgia too! I had issues with depression and prayed a desperate prayer like you did. I also got an immediate response (it was actually through three different people telling me the same thing.) After a beautiful and challenging road of discovery, I became Catholic. I'm sorry the Catholics in your family let you down. You talk about Catholics being all about suffering, but yet your story speaks of redemptive suffering. Your suffering brought you to God, you say. Well, God does not want us to suffer, but He sometimes allows it for our good because he loves us and wants us to be united to Him. I don't know where you live, or if you're in school, but a lot of Catholics have Newman Centers. If you ever have any questions bugging you, reach out to someone there and ask. Maybe stop in and pray. God bless you!
My family did not want anything to do with the church. I had met the Elders. I thought I had to pray . I received answer that the Church is true.I served a mission. While on a mission my father passed away. I had a blessing which said he had gone to serve a mission for our Lord Jesus
I can tell you all...I have passed through many churches over the years and this church is wonderful..you receive much help and support in many ways and I to this day after three years of intense investigating am just about ready to join 🤗 ( newbies, hang in there, dont give up just yet , there is i believe a reason why you was drawn to this church at the exact time in your life )
@@hyrumdelrosario6766 I have prayed about it multiple times and nothing I've experienced with those prayers has suggested the LDS church is true. Some missionaries I've talked to suggested I read Alma 32 to help explain it, so I did. Verse 32 of that chapter seem to suggest since the 'seed' didn't grow, that means it's not true. But other LDS sources I've read about it suggest the solution is to keep reading and praying. So which is it? If I do keep reading and praying, how do I discern whatever the spirit is or isn't saying to me?
WOW - I have been watching the 3 Mormon videos week by week after learning about them just a few months ago. I love them ALL, but this one about Jimmy's conversion really touched me deeply! It's the first time I have felt the need to comment. I, too, am a Catholic convert of many years! I started attending when I was 12 and had to wait for permission from my family to be baptized which came at 15. There was many years of conflict though not nearly as deep. (I am much older now - I could easily be any of your moms' ages - ha ha!!) But the burning I felt in my heart when I heard Jimmy share his answered prayer and describe his conversion to the gospel further witnesses to me of the Tender Mercies of God. (Read Elder Bednar's talk by the same name) I was so deeply touched at the miracles that occurred in Jimmy's life that fateful night in his bedroom. God truly knows and loves us. There will be time when that relationship with him and his Dad will be healed. Perhaps by the time I am commenting, it has been healed and Jimmy knows it, but if not yet, IT WILL. I know it!!! On a side note, I have a family member and best friend (from HS) that are both Catholic priests. Men who are both good to the core, but changing the faith of your family or the community in which you were raised is hard stuff. I get it. But when you know what you know to be true you can move forward in faith. THANKS for sharing your conversion, Jimmy!
Lisa Clancy I pray for all the Mormons and those who reject God the Son of the Father. I wanted to join but I thank God for His Grace to remain in Him In His Holy Catholic Church. The Devil has his plans for the righteous. I fear only bad Catholics who condemn themselves, by committing apostasy. I was raised Roman Catholic as well and just got baptized into the LDS church 2 weeks ago, and let me tell you, it was the BEST decision of my life. While the oath has been hard and there have been a lot of hurdles God has been by my side through it all and my faith has grown so much! I cannot wait to hear the answers God will reveal to me this weekend ( General Conference Yeah!)
My great, great grandfather was an alter boy in the parish at Kaskaskia, Illinois. Raised a good Catholic boy. He joined the Mormon church in 1839 and came west with them. What a great heritage I have and the good foundation of faith given to my ancestor kept him fast to the truth. Good job.

My situation was the same but I was raised southern baptist and my parents had a hard time. I'm under 18 and they won't let me go but this made me happy and I know the church is true. Arguing with your parents is hard and the tension is hard but I know I know the truth and better is to come .
I have similar problem with my parents. My family is also a catholic . I have to make up things to say to them just for me to go to baptisms and church. One day I was reading the book of mormon and my mum walked in my room and saw that I was reading the book and both my parents were gonna kick me out the house and were soo upset, but after couple of weeks later they start being nice to me
The Book of Mormon is false prophecy. Please don't leave the Catholic Church. Catholic Answers has answers for a lot of different issues you might have with Catholicism. The Catholic Church is God's only Church.
Begging them to not leave the Catholic Church and simply saying that the Book of Mormon is false prophecy without any evidence whatsoever. You sir are a disgrace.
Jimmy that was great video! I’m an x catholic NOW LDS and also thought God was always this mean bad guy out to get me however missionaries & members helped me see Heavenly Father as A loving God :)
Melody Vela you and Jimmy literally have never understood the faith you were raised in if you believe God was “out to get you.” No aspect of Catholicism conveys anything of the sort
I have members in my family that had converted to catholic and shortly after left the Catholic church because of their beliefs. Happy to say they are back with the church.
Thank you for your story! Some of my family is very strongly Catholic, but I never was. I felt the same way you did, though. It seemed kind of pointless and God seemed evil to me if the only purpose is suffering. I had so much anxiety. The plan of salvation was so huge for me too! I had so so much opposition from my previous church and my family, but I'm so happy now!
joey puvel Truly disheartening to see someone so lost think they are in the right by leaving the church literally founded by Christ and go to one founded by an American polygamist
Mr. Anderson - professional catholic monster hunter The church if Jesus Christ is a church founded by Christ. Joseph just restored it. That's why our church is called the church of JESUS CHRIST of latter day saints.
joey puvel Ever heard of partaking the sacrament? The priesthood says a blessing and bread which is a sign of Christ body and we take it and then they say a prayer on water which is a sign of his blood and then we drink it.
Just a straight girl “eat my flesh, and drink my blood” “my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink”. Unless you eat of the flesh of the son of man, and drink of his blood, you have no life in you. Translation of Bethlehem: house of bread, or house of meat. Depending on the language (Hebrew or Arabic) Jesus was put in a manger. A manger is a food dish for sheep. He’s the bread of life. Not just a sign. God bless you.
I can relate a lot to Jimmy, just recently I've started taking lessons from missionaries but I've kept it a secret from my mum and grandparents (who I attend a Protestant denomination with) because I know they won't be accepting. It's going to be very difficult when I finally tell them, but I'm just trying to remember how rewarding it's going to be when I make the transition to an LDS congregation :)
I will keep you in my prayers, Rebekah! I converted when I turned 18, it was the best decision ever! I was in a very similar situation as you. It will be hard at first, but God will make things right with time :)
@@rebekahwilliams1298 just remember to tell them your relationship with them will not change because of the Church! The Church is there to help bring families together, not apart. It will give them some comfort 🙂
J J I've always been a Christian, but the LDS doctrines in particular make a lot more sense to me; like heaven and hell not being the only destinations after this life, and the idea of there still being apostles on Earth today who communicate directly with God. Also, the need for a Restoration definitely makes sense to me; I learned about the LDS faith at school this year, and ever since then its stayed in my heart, and there's something about it that I just can't shake. Until now I've been meeting with missionaries online, and lately I've been wanting to meet with some in person and attend church. I just told my parents today that I'm interested in the Church and they think it's a cult :( I'm just praying that with time they'll be able to see all the good that the church has to offer.
As someone who went from a lifetime of Atheism to Catholicism after years of research (thats still ongoing) I just don't see much value in these "feelings" based conversions. Especially when the supposedly "true church of Jesus Christ restored to the earth" is demonstrably false. If the boy's father was abusive, I can see why wanting to make a break would make sense, especially if everyone on the Mormon side seems so nice by comparison. Still, that doesn't make Mormonism true. In the end 2000 years of the known, provable existence of Catholicism and the Christian orthodoxy it represents trumps a couple hundred years of Mormonism which sprang from the mind of one convicted fraud. You'll be in my prayers Jimmy.
@@williamhenley8593 The bible and sacred tradition shows that God speaks through divine revelation, inspired scripture, and his church which scripture says is the pillar and bulwark of truth. The truths revealed to the apostles have been handed down from age to age as a clear and surprisingly consistent message. Feelings, in contrast, change depending on a myriad of circumstances and are inconsistent. Just look at the number of denominations within not only christianity, but also Mormonism. Adhearents to each of these denominations each "feel" that they are right.
Jay T There are multiple examples in the New Testament where feelings are used to reveal things through the Spirit. An example is when it says did not our hearts burn
I'm not saying that feelings have no use at all. I am saying that they shouldn't be one's only basis for faith since they can be widely interpreted by the folks who hold them. Paul for instance, went to his death never having wavered in his conviction that he saw the risen Christ, a conviction that was so powerful it dramatically altered the very person that he was. Peter and the other apostles most certainly had to trust in Jesus, yet they themselves also had the benefit of seeing with their own eyes. The testimony they left behind for those of us who have not seen is based on their first hand experiences. Testimony that is backed by verifiable evidence of peoples, places, and events described in the new testament to the point that few scholars doubt the existence of Jesus, and none doubt the existence of Bethlehem, Israel, the Romans, the Jews, etc. In contrast, proponents of the book of Mormon insist that it be taken on faith despite the fact that it makes bold, and, what should be, easy to verify claims about the early Americas that non Mormon sources reject, and which the church can find no direct evidence for. Faith, logic, and reason have always gone together in Christianity. Basing things on feelings alone is akin to admitting that ones belief system is indefensible. Look at the subject of this video. Its clear from his own words that he had no answers for the priest who "kept coming at him" with Catholic beliefs. He just wanted to be Mormon because his family life wasn't so great, and they love bombed him. Not because shifty Mormon teaching stood up to two thousand years of Catholic truth.
Jay T Just because he had no answers, does not mean there are no answers. The Lord told Oliver Cowdery, that “I will tell you in your heart and in your mind”. Joseph Smith also recognised the importance of evidence, that is why we have the testimony of the three witnesses and the testimony of the eight witnesses. That’s 12 men including Joseph Smith. Evidence is absolutely important but that supplements faith it does not cause it. We see through the glass darkly in this life and that is why the Lord uses the language of the Spirit to reveal truths to us. Read some of the evidences for the restored Gospel on Fairmormon.org The Book of Mormon is an amazing piece of evidence on its own
There is a book called Catholic Roots Mormon Harvest A story of conversion and 40 comparative doctrines. I highly recommend reading it. Here is a little bit about it: Eric and his wife, Marilyn, were happy with their Catholic faith. Both rooted deep in their beloved religion, neither one dreamed that they would ever leave it. But when they moved next door to a Mormon family, their lives changed forever. This is the story of their conversion, as told by Eric, along with a respectful and enlightening comparison of 40 key doctrines between Catholicism and Mormonism that testified to them of the restoration of the gospel. Find yourself touched, challenged, and educated as you share Eric and Marilyn's journey from Catholic roots to Mormon harvest.
I'm happy to hear you got out of an abusive situation with your parents. But I'm a little confused by your story. How did you know the LDS church is true? When you talked about visiting the LDS church for the first time, it sounded like the main impression you got was that it made you feel good. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't understand how feeling good is enough to make you believe a church is true. Can you explain that a bit more?
States he was a devout Catholic. Then states the central teaching of the Church is something that it doesn't actually teach. You've confused your dad, or even your parish priest, for the Church.
@@newlin83 and the Church doesn’t take everything the saints taught and call it Church teaching. The Church canonizes saints for showing extraordinary sanctity in their lives or deaths. St. Thomas Aquinas didn’t believe in the Immaculate Conception, for example - yet he is a saint. Canonization of a saint is *not* canonization of the whole of their lives or their writings. Some saints were converts and would’ve taught and believed numerous errors before conversion. Additionally, some saints avoided martyrdom. Some saints did not seek out martyrdom. You again and again are mistaking the practices many or some saints engaged in, with official Church teaching. Canonization of a person doesn’t mean that their whole lives were perfect for that everything they taught or did is to be praised. Also, the Church doesn’t teach that life is *about* suffering. The Church teaches that we can *choose to* take on suffering out of love for Christ and the Church, just as Christ voluntarily underwent suffering for our sake. Self-denial. Self-sacrifice. The point of choosing to undergo suffering or accepting suffering that comes into our lives isn’t about the suffering itself, but about the amount of love with which one undergoes it, for Christ.
@@newlin83 Dennis already handled it, but I wanted to add a few points. Regarding self-flagellation: that's not "church teaching." Instead, what the Church teaches is that if we die in a state of grace (that is, with the Holy Spirit dwelling within us) then we will go to Heaven, and we can do NOTHING to earn a state of grace. Instead, God takes the "first step" and invites us to accept the Holy Spirit. To put it in the language of traditional gender roles, God is the male who asks us to join with Him in marriage, and we are the woman who can accept or reject it. No amount of flagellation, starving, giving money to the poor, solving world hunger, etc etc can put us in a state of grace. Grace is offered freely, and we can either accept or reject it. But then AFTER we accept the state of grace and have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, the process of sanctification/justirication takes place, where the Holy Spirit works within us to purify us. Since we all come to Christ with some form of impurity, over the course of our lives, God purifies us. According to Scripture, this can happen involuntarily through sufferings, or can happen voluntarily (normally through fasting). We look to the scriptures and see what Paul and Jesus taught-- "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for His body’s sake, which is the church" and "But an evil spirit of this kind is only driven out by prayer and fasting." Here, both Jesus and Paul affirm the Orthodox Christian teaching that once we ALREADY HAVE the Holy Spirit, our sufferings can spiritually benefit other people. Our fasting can cast out demons from other people. Our physical sufferings can spiritually help others in the Church. I know the LDS are into personal testimony, so I have a little one about this. Before I was a Catholic, when I was reading early Church history and was exploring Mormonism and decided to test it to see if it was true according to Mormoni 10:3-5, I similarly asked God if Catholicism is true. I didn't *like* Catholicism at all, but the historical evidence was strong. One thing I found in early Church history showed this teaching about offering up our suffering to help other people being unique to Orthodox Christians (EO and Catholic). So I chose the two most non-Christian people I knew and I prayed that if God would send me some sort of suffering, I would offer it up for them to be brought to Christ. One was my Jewish aunt who completely rejected Jesus. I also had an old Japanese friend who thought religion was completely ridiculous (Japan is the most atheist country in the world). After offering up this prayer, the very next day I broke my toe while playing soccer. I immediately offered up my pain to God for them. I didn't live near them and no one knew about my intents or prayers (in fact, no one knew I was researching any religious things at all). Literally within an hour, both my Japanese friend and my aunt-- who didn't know each other and live 500 miles apart-- both messaged me; my aunt said she's accepted Jesus as the Messiah and is becoming Catholic, and my Japanese friend said he wants a bible and thinks God exists. That's what offering up your suffering for other people is about. The Church teaches that we can do it voluntarily through fasting and also teaches that we can't purposely injure ourselves. But we *can* offer up involuntary suffering (say, breaking your toe in soccer, or a woman dying in child birth who offers up her life for her husband's conversion, etc). Next, about the historical examples you gave: we often hear about "fake news" today, knowing that media outlets purposely distort the truth to push an agenda. This didn't start with modern American politics. Instead, the biggest explosion of media propaganda started in the 16th century with what secular scholars call the "leyenda negra" ("black legend"). It started with a non-religious war between northern Europeans and Spain, and the Protestant Northern Europeans created tons of propaganda against he Spaniards, which then extended to Catholicism in general. A lot of the "history" you hear from Protestants comes from the leyenda negra, and historians of all stripes admit that a lot of "history" of Catholicism comes from these false Protestant sources. If you want to look through church history to see who is really pushing evil, I'd compare the Catholic, Protestant, and LDS beliefs on slavery and race. The transatlantic slave trade started in the 1400s. Protestants brought over boatloads of slaves to the USA, as well as other North and South American countries like Guyana, Belize, Barbados, the Bahamas, and Grenada. The LDS upheld views that those with darker skin were inferior to whites. It took them a century to finally renounce that earlier interpretation. Yet the Catholic Church has had African popes and saints (both Arab and darker-skinned African), and within a generation of the start of the transatlantic slave trade, Pope Eugene IV taught that race-based slavery was evil and would end in excommunication. And, in fact, the Catholic King of Portugal WAS excommunicated for having slaves, and Christopher Colombus was found guilty of tyranny for having slaves on his first voyage. Ever notice how there's not many African Mexicans, African Colombians, or African Venezuelans, etc; but there are a ton of African Americans, Guyanese, Bahamans, etc? And the few African Mexicans/Colombians/Venezuelans/etc that ARE there typically immigrated from Protestant countries (Guyana, Bahamas, Belize, etc) or from the excommunicated Portugese state (Brazil). That's because the Pope officially taught that racial slavery was evil and could end in excommunication, which was enacted even against Catholic Kings. And this was taught in the 1430's! Compare that with Mormonism, which took another 500 years before they finally accepted racism as an evil.
I can empathize too brother. I'm a very proud Lds / ex catholic too.. smh MANY many catholics sure are quite proudly cruel, very resentful to lds, and religiously, viciously disrespectful. I know how it is.. Others on the other hand have shown me respect and friendship. Anyways, don't let anyone, especially those that are supposed to be Lds, other Christians, friends or family ruin your happiness in the church. I've suffered and endured so much life experience myself from losing a parent to suicide, another to cancer, drug abuse, gang affiliation, brutal military experience, despicable "family" turning on me pretty harshly over religion, or politics, everlasting depression, homelessness, traumatic injuries, ptsd, you name it. Still here and making it. So can YOU brothers and sisters of the church. AND out the church. We're all brothers and sisters from the very same mold of humanity. We're all suffering in this same life of Earth so we need to help and heal each other as much as possible. Despite any differences. Don't let what I deem petty differences like that between Catholic or Lds faiths divide us. We, catholic, lds, atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, Hinduists jew, other gentile, etc. can very much all bridge the gaps that keep breaking apart the ONE human family of God. We shouldn't have to be enemies for crap like oh I left your church or oh well I left yours too. Lets get along. You really want to fix this world and help everyone's Christ, than lets get it done. All of us TOGETHER ❤🤝💙
I went to the Vatican, on a Sunday morning there were 1000s of tourists walking thru St Peters Basilica. I went to Salt Lake City on a Sunday morning To temple square. There were locks on the fence to keep people out.
In order to keep the Sabbath Day Holy, Temple Square is closed so that the volunteers who work there can rest and go to church. It is ironic for sure but most are missionaries and you can find them in church and not at "work" on the temple grounds.
As soon as he mentioned he was originally Catholic, I knew there would be an overwhelming amount of Catholics claiming that's not what Catholicism really is. Go figure. No one is ever wrong according to themselves. And any bad instances and experiences don't ever count.
What a sweet kid. Tell him to listen to the conversion story of Bill Carpenter. That is who he reminded me of. Bill's story is absolutely awesome! And so is yours kiddo! Keep staying strong! Truth is truth and now you can help you dad get his work done and hopefully the Angels can get him to accept the truth in the spirit world

Mainstream Catholicism would have been a much better trip. I could never be a traditionalist; they are outdated and too severe. Vatican ll made a huge difference.
What you really mean is you think God is outdated and too severe. So instead of following his actual Word you're going to find a Church that makes you feel good.
@@rockstars04 Vatican II was a meeting of Bishops and Cardinals organized by a modernist Pope, Paul VI. The the expressed goal was to bring the laity into the Sacrifice of the Mass and make Catholicism more palatable. In reality, it invited a whole lot of uncertainty into the Catholic Church and weakened the message of the Gospel considerably and caused a great bleed in Christ's true Church.

Why do people choose religions instead of Jesus.? It is a free gift of god.? No religion saves but Jesus alone.Mary received her free gift of forgiveness and Paradise by proclaiming Jesus as her lord Luke 1;26.Have you called out to Jesus and received your free gift of forgiveness and salvation. The Holy Spirit is now drawing you to Jesus and his finished work on Calvary. Call out right now and be saved for all eternity Luke 23:34-44 .matthew 11:28 Come to me ( Jesus) and I will give you rest and eternal life
Sean Rath, In The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, we have diffrent concept of faith in "the free gift" based on we learn from the Bible, the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. We believe the the free gift is referring to free salvation from death into resurrection, regardless what we have done. This salvation only is not the only plan, in order to dwell in His Kindom we need exaltation by showing our love to the Saviour, Jesus Christ. And to love him is to obey His commandments; John 14 : 15 Kjv * If ye love me, keep my commandments* More than just to believe in Jesus Christ, James 2 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Philippians 2:12 King James Version (KJV) 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. I am not trying to prove anything nor expecting you to agree or disagree. I am just sharing what we believe and learn. May God bless you and your family:)
GrandPa Je salvation is found only in Jesus and not in the any church. You have an extra revelation in your Book of Mormon which is adding to god’s word.By grace we are saved through faith ( believing) and this not of ourselves but it’s a free gift of god and by works so no one can boast.. So the first thing you need to do is call on Jesus right now and with all your heart and believe that Jesus is the the eternal word becoming flesh or god became man..Then be baptized into Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit and making disciples of Jesus and preaching the gospel of of Jesus Christ. The Mormons are not Christians like the Jehovah witnesses . We all have sinned and need a savior and only the blood of god could pay for the sins of the world
He does not understand the Catholic Doctrine. We are not created to suffer, but to love God. It is so ridiculous to leave the real Universal Church - The Roman Catholic Church - to believe false doctrine and belong to a heretical sect.
Really loved your sharing. I was also raised in the Roman Catholic Church, and met two missionaries when preparing for the hurricane. I am being baptized into Thr Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
I belonged to 12 different religious denominations. My parents were really about sending me to churches; but , not so good at going to church. At age 48, I was baptized into the church of Latter-day Saints,
I think it's great you found the right place. I think that its fantastic and I am happy for you. Your dad didn't understand your choices. I'm sure he was worried. But I bet he still loved you. As a mom, I want you to know that we love our kids and want them to be happy. When a baby is born we have a lot of hopes and dreams for them. When you guys grow up and stray from what we imagined for you, it can be difficult to adjust. Especially when it's an unexpected... and when its percieved as a choice kinda off the beaten path. Sometimes what looks like anger is a mask for worry and fear. We grapple with some pretty big questions. Is this my fault? Did I do a bad job? What constitutes guidance and what constitutes pressure? Is this a rejection of me? In terms of religion, it can be very tough for a parent with a strong faith watch a child take a different path. Remember, the strength of thier faith in Catholicism is as strong as your conviction in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is. Your parents botched the discussion with you. Emotions won out over cool heads. Its crummy, but it happens. I'm guilty of it myself. I'm on edge. Watching my teen navigate her way to adulthood is pretty rough at times. I don't drink, but if I was going to, it would be now. Like you, shes a great kid. Mature, intelligent, with quality friends, wonderful activities and fantastic grades. I'm proud of her. I'm terrified of landmines. She's leaving the nest soon. Our relationship is changing. I did my best. Now we find out if I gave her the right tools for life. I'm betting that your parents struggled with very similar questions.
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6) It's utterly perplexing how so many Christians still to this day fall out over the right way and wrong way . Look deeper into his words and teachings and you'd realise what he really wants is for you to drop all these arguments
Go back and learn and live the faith you were raised in. The Catholic Church is rich in beauty and truth. I will be praying for you. ❤ Could you also check out Catholic Joe Heschmeyer's talks on mormons they are more informative than this video.
Please don't let a bad experience lead you away from truth...the behavior of your father was representative of Catholic beliefs nor the Church Christ established. We love you whether practicing or not ... pray for the truth.
I have no idea what kind of Catholic Church this guy went to. It is not about doom and gloom at all. Catholics do not think the purpose for life is suffering
Maybe he went to an SSPX chapel or something
Sounds like he was SSPX
@@liquidoxygen819 even sspx chapels aren't like that. Maybe some sedevancantist one
Er.... its all about repentance... i was faced with Catholic priests as well
Exactly.
I'm a little surprised that a self-described traditionalist Catholic would say that the purpose of life is to suffer. That is not what the Catholic Church teaches. If you read older catechisms, such as the Baltimore Catechism (which many self-described traditionalists love), it states things like:
It seems as though that was his family's particular flavor of Catholicism.
@ Exactly.
I've had a very bad experience with the Catholic church too. And they do like suffering and not joy.
@@jabiraht2951 what the Church teaches is the meaning of suffering. Not that we should suffer. Our Lord Jesus Christ went thru suffering. Sooner or later we all go thru suffering.
@Oliver O'Brien so why the inconsistency? In the LDS church u can go anywhere in the world and you will be taught the same principles and truths
@@levironald9322 there is no inconsistency. Here might be a video you might find helpful to understand what Catholics think about suffering. Nobody likes suffering but we pick up our crosses just as Jesus did.

@@ashleyj97 suffering is good because God came down from heaven to suffer and save us.

So suffering is good. But it’s not the purpose of life.
As a life-long Catholic, I never heard that either. Very strange.
I am also a recent convert. Grew up Catholic, lost my way spiritually, and found my faith again through the Book of Mormon and prayer. Thank you for bearing your testimony, much appreciated. Love you brother.
God is good!
I will pray you find your way out of this "church
The main focus of Catholicism is love, not suffering.
I went to many churches and I simply told God I need to be in the true church one day later missionaries came to my door.
What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing. I love to hear peoples conversion stories.
Beautiful, amazing story!
Jimmy, I felt truly sorry to what you have experienced with the "Catholic style parenting". Personally, as a Catholic close to the traditional Catholic practices, I would say your parents are not practicing the real Catholic teachings
I have once dated a mormon boy, and this is the reason why i started interest to research in mormon faith.

J J bro, yeah they do. They sometimes have the black robe underneath the white alb
Christina Garcia but there’s always a white shirt over it, and most parishes outside the TLM wear all white

This is my story of joining the church:
When I was little I would go to church with my family, I think we jumped around with churches but I was little so I don't know.

Peter and the Apostles did not keep the offices of Apostle filled faster than they became vacant.

I agree. It's such a shame that Catholic Church treats people like this. Not good at all and robs people of the true presence of Jesus Christ.
Literally nothing about his testimony is in any way indicative of Roman Catholicism

Keep praying, keep Reading the BOM book, and investigating ask missionaries for a comfort blessing to know if it is true
Hi Jimmy, 3 Mormons, and any Mormon Missionary kind enough to read my appeal,
Please help me.
Here’s what the very first chapter of the Catechism says:
“The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. He cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator”
You say “Catholics just don’t like Mormons.” That’s also a pretty silly statement.
So, rectify my confusion:
Given the historical record, what are your rational reasons (beyond emotions and clean living) that explain the truth of Mormonism?
tribesman2010, have you actually looked at what's going on in your church, at this very moment in time? And what's with the big essay man! Use reason!
Thanks so much for such a great video!
I can tell you all...I have passed through many churches over the years and this church is wonderful..you receive much help and support in many ways and I to this day after three years of intense investigating am just about ready to join 🤗 ( newbies, hang in there, dont give up just yet , there is i believe a reason why you was drawn to this church at the exact time in your life )
5zazen hi
If you don't mind me asking, why are you joining the LDS church? Why do you believe it's the true church?
@@Dustin_McNab pray about it
@@hyrumdelrosario6766 I have prayed about it multiple times and nothing I've experienced with those prayers has suggested the LDS church is true.
Good job.

Hi! Can I ask what were the main reasons you converted from Catholicism into Mormonism? I'm a Catholic, so I'd love to know
Ante Uskok I'm still Catholic
By the Grace of God I pray to die Catholic.
Loved your conversion story, keep sharing it. You can make a difference.
Victoria Keller I’m so happy to hear that you’re happy now! Isn’t it incredible what joy the Gospel brings?
I'm happy for you too! The Gospel changes lives for real! It gives people purpose, and it helped me to see that I'm not alone!
Thanks for coming Jimmy! You 3 are the best!
Moment of silence for a lost brother.
joey puvel Truly disheartening to see someone so lost think they are in the right by leaving the church literally founded by Christ and go to one founded by an American polygamist
Mr. Anderson - professional catholic monster hunter The church if Jesus Christ is a church founded by Christ. Joseph just restored it. That's why our church is called the church of JESUS CHRIST of latter day saints.
Just a straight girl “if you do not eat my flesh, and drink my blood, you have no life in you.”
joey puvel Ever heard of partaking the sacrament? The priesthood says a blessing and bread which is a sign of Christ body and we take it and then they say a prayer on water which is a sign of his blood and then we drink it.
Just a straight girl “eat my flesh, and drink my blood” “my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink”. Unless you eat of the flesh of the son of man, and drink of his blood, you have no life in you.
Translation of Bethlehem: house of bread, or house of meat. Depending on the language (Hebrew or Arabic)
Jesus was put in a manger.
CeeMaiden Thank you! I am scared, but like you said, God will make things right with time and it will be a worthwhile decision :)
@@rebekahwilliams1298 just remember to tell them your relationship with them will not change because of the Church! The Church is there to help bring families together, not apart. It will give them some comfort 🙂
Rebekah Williams what would you say drew you to the LDS?
You're awesome Jimmy!
Thank you so much:)
I loved this video I'm sitting here rn trying to figure out how I am going to tell my super baptist parents that I'm converting
I got baptized on April 27th this year. I still haven't told my parents. I'm so scared.
Do you not think that feelings are a universal way God can talk to everyone?
Read some of the evidences for the restored Gospel on Fairmormon.org
The Book of Mormon is an amazing piece of evidence on its own
There is a book called Catholic Roots Mormon Harvest A story of conversion and 40 comparative doctrines.
I really like your story and encouragement. I'm also a convert from the Assembly of God church.
Thanks, Jimmy. I was once Catholic! Please endure to the end. Praying for you and your mother. God Bless.
I went to the Vatican, on a Sunday morning there were 1000s of tourists walking thru
St Peters Basilica.
I went to Salt Lake City on a Sunday morning
To temple square. There were locks on the fence to keep people out.
In order to keep the Sabbath Day Holy, Temple Square is closed so that the volunteers who work there can rest and go to church. It is ironic for sure but most are missionaries and you can find them in church and not at "work" on the temple grounds.
@@aprilgates4003 so volunteering to help people on Sunday is NOT holy work? I’m confused
I thought going to church on Sunday was important?
@@PInk77W1 Well she did point out people arent at temple square to go to church..
@@bobbq8380 to me church and temple are the same. To Mormons I guess not. We consider it love not work
What is your goal of being here?
As soon as he mentioned he was originally Catholic, I knew there would be an overwhelming amount of Catholics claiming that's not what Catholicism really is. Go figure. No one is ever wrong according to themselves. And any bad instances and experiences don't ever count.
What a sweet kid. Tell him to listen to the conversion story of Bill Carpenter. That is who he reminded me of. Bill's story is absolutely awesome! And so is yours kiddo! Keep staying strong! Truth is truth and now you can help you dad get his work done and hopefully the Angels can get him to accept the truth in the spirit world
As a former catholic i completely agree!
Anty Rak I pray for all the Mormons and those who reject God the Son of the Father.
Thank you for sharing your story’s with me I’m going to the same saturation to. I recently joined the church of LDS.
okay but real question who started your church?
Jesus Christ
Mainstream Catholicism would have been a much better trip. I could never be a traditionalist; they are outdated and too severe. Vatican ll made a huge difference.
Yass thats so true
What you really mean is you think God is outdated and too severe. So instead of following his actual Word you're going to find a Church that makes you feel good.
The Church is beautiful because she remains in her traditions
What is Vatican II?
@@rockstars04 Vatican II was a meeting of Bishops and Cardinals organized by a modernist Pope, Paul VI. The the expressed goal was to bring the laity into the Sacrifice of the Mass and make Catholicism more palatable. In reality, it invited a whole lot of uncertainty into the Catholic Church and weakened the message of the Gospel considerably and caused a great bleed in Christ's true Church.
I am in my late forties and so far I haven't come across anything about BEES in the Book of Ether!
Great testimony, Jimmy! I am sad that you and your Dad were not able to see eye to eye until he passed! But, as we know now, he must be saying to the missionaries in the Spirit World how proud he is of you!

I researched Mormonism and met with the missionaries often, but I found the truth in Catholicism alone.
Couple of problems with your statement
Couple of problems with your statement
This is exactly what I needed
Thank you! I love your testimony!
Call out right now and be saved for all eternity Luke 23:34-44 .matthew 11:28 Come to me ( Jesus) and I will give you rest and eternal life
Sean Rath,
In The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, we have diffrent concept of faith in "the free gift" based on we learn from the Bible, the Book of Mormon and other scriptures.
We believe the the free gift is referring to free salvation from death into resurrection, regardless what we have done. This salvation only is not the only plan, in order to dwell in His Kindom we need exaltation by showing our love to the Saviour, Jesus Christ. And to love him is to obey His commandments;
John 14 : 15 Kjv
* If ye love me, keep my commandments*
More than just to believe in Jesus Christ, James 2
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Philippians 2:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
We all have sinned and need a savior and only the blood of god could pay for the sins of the world
Thank you so much Jimmy. I am sitting here in DK and you testimony touched my heart.
Leslie Jonsson I’m so glad to hear that:)
Love this video! I think my biggest corncern is more about telling my friends than my parents.. they still seem to believe all the misconceptions
I belonged to 12 different religious denominations. My parents were really about sending me to churches; but , not so good at going to church. At age 48, I was baptized into the church of Latter-day Saints,
What I like about mormons is that they are really nice. What I like about catholics is that we are really correct.
Watching this as I prepare to tell my parents of my conversion also thank you for you testimony
Christ has a way of opening one's heart and bring those back to Him and the Catholic Church. He is young and still on a journey of faith.
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6)
It's utterly perplexing how so many Christians still to this day fall out over the right way and wrong way . Look deeper into his words and teachings and you'd realise what he really wants is for you to drop all these arguments
My experience with the Catholic church is rough too. And it has followed me from place to place too and I have no peace with Catholics.
Then join or at least hang out with lds folks 😊
I'm 33 & I was raised Catholic. I am currently looking into the LDS.
Go back and learn and live the faith you were raised in. The Catholic Church is rich in beauty and truth. I will be praying for you. ❤
Could you also check out Catholic Joe Heschmeyer's talks on mormons they are more informative than this video.
A brave young man. The Church is true! 🌈
Please don't let a bad experience lead you away from truth...the behavior of your father was representative of Catholic beliefs nor the Church Christ established.
We love you whether practicing or not ... pray for the truth.
Oml I cried watching this 😭😭 so amazing Jimmy! so inspiring ❤❤
