I REALLY want to see them dive deeper into this quiz in an "Off the Record" episode. They never even discussed whether they thought the teacher resigning was an overreaction.
I took the quiz, and I don’t see why they would be offended. Some of the themes are sexual, or violent in nature but they aren’t little kids. They are 10th graders, they are forming their own opinions, and navigating politics and morality for themselves. This could be a good topic for an essay, preparing them for academic work later in life.
Dana May it was my class who took it, kids were creeped out but no one was so offended they told their parents . what actually happened is a parent went on their child’s school ipad (where we took the test) and saw it and reported her
Why the hell is this a 12 min video lol this topic could have been 20-30 mins EASY. Felt like so much of the article wasn't addressed lol. Like besides the morality questions, should the teacher have resigned? Was the backlash warranted? idk felt short.
In all honesty... do we come here for the article or for them... ok sure we are intriugued by the topic aka article but interms of importance its like 30% Topic, 70% Them.
They do teach that stuff in sex ed. In my high school it wasn't just about the science, they also talked about double standards and how there shouldn't be one. They also talked a lot about consent.
Antonio Rosario it’s about the school you go to the education system is different for schools like there are abstinence type teaching and their or morality type learning and shit like that
I think Joe is on to something to not dismiss it automatically. I am also of the thought of letting people do what ever the hell they want as long as it don't affect me
You can tell Joe has taken philosophy courses for his psychology degree to better understand the human mind. His reasonings and decisions are 100% objective and reasonable compared to Tiff and Steve
vincecvn These parents are trying to keep the kids away from the “real world” I took the test and I feel like none of the questions were too violent for 10th graders.
Well the reason incest is "not ok" is because the likelyhood of having disabled kids, ones with diseases, etc. Is extremely high. Take that factor away and what's the problem?
I think geo is wrong at the end. By the time college rolls around, people can already be set in their ways given to them by fascist/racist parents. Important stuff like that needs to be taught before 14, kids grow up fast now
depends on the kid also. some are set in there ways. some people are not. but at the same time there is also alot of parents that don't let there kids do the sex ed classes in school. i remember plenty of people in my elementary school and middle school that had to go sit in another class during any time we did sex ed as a group
They used those words correctly. What’s your problem? And kids don’t “grow up fast now”. They grew up fast back in the day, when fourteen year olds had to get jobs/get husbands. And besides that, the human brain is fully developed at age 25, both then and now. They grow up at the same rate, both then and now. This is a classic example of people’s perception not being backed up by science or cultural studies. Just like when kids believe things they’re taught when they aren’t backed by science or cultural studied. Crazy how that metaphor worked out.
To be fair, then high school sex ed still isn’t gonna do that - most people already have had sex by the time of an actual sex education class (if they have a sex ed class at all)
i went to take the test before i watch the video and some of the questions actually are funny. one of them says "When Kelly asks Steven out on a date, he sneers and says: “Like I'm gonna date a woman who looks like my overweight bulldog.” or "Scott is hosting a dinner party. For dessert, he serves chocolate cake, shaped to look like dog poop."
Quizzes like these are really misleading. 99.9% of the time, the questions can be voted one way or the other depending on how the individual reads and weighs the specifics of the scenario and any deciding details could be left out which would swing the vote either way. A better type of quiz is one where it describes a scenario and it has multiple sliders, each for different aspects of the scenario. But it’s too elaborate for just anyone to create.
Joe, it's a morality quiz... You're supposed to answer whether *YOU* feel that it is *moral* or not for a *brother and sister* to have sex with with each other with 2 forms of protection. I'm sorry, but what that question poses is societally *immoral,* no grey area
I personally feel when the problems of incest (children) are taken off the table with not just 1 but 2 contraceptives, the question instantly turns into "2 consenting people are experimenting with their bodies". it's not hurting the people involved or the people around. when all is said and done everyone could go right back to their lives. ps i took the quiz before i watched the video and this is how saw the question
Does Jazmine have the Benjamin Button's disease or something cuz she looked like a teenager this time but she looked like a grown up the last time she was on.
The difficult thing about morality questions, is they all depend on details given of the scenario. And those details can have a huge variety of different possibilities that each can change opinions drastically. Most things depend on context and perspectives.
A little philosophy and ethics integrated into our English classes should be fine. Not like theres an optional philosophy until college Obviously there should be some boundaries that shouldnt be crossed due to the audience but the content itself is ok
I’ve done this in English. We cover philosophy when we go over synthesis, argumentation, and rhetorical analysis. It helps to understand philosophy when writing those essays
Ok i did mortality as a topic when i was 16-17 and it was really interesting and we had great class discussion about death and the law of certain things but these questions are too inappropriate for a school setting.
My results: Your strongest moral foundation is *Care.* Your morality is closest to that of a *Conservative.* Never considered myself to be much of a conservative but oh well
Sex ed should not be all about the science because sex is not all science. The the emotional and psychological aspects of sex should be discussed thoroughly and taught to young adults of this age group.
Just took the test and I honestly don't think the teacher should have resigned or been fired for the test. Given some of the questions, she definitely should have run it by parents and administrators first, but not that big of a discretion to lose your job.
Lately i feel the quality of these videos are dropping a bit. Yes i appreciate the many content you upload but sometimes like these topics, get brushed quickly when its interesting, you didn't get into the teacher getting fired is Ok or if the parents are right. It happened with other articles as well like the tennis one.
Very interesting conversations! I'll play devils advocate view on the brother sister question (and rant about morality and God) I think Joe and Geo are suggesting that if two consenting adults do something together, why is it wrong?i Isnt that the same argument for gay marriage? If two legally consenting adults want to get married why not? The issue with the brother/sister thing is the genetic disorders of a baby. Change the scenario, what if it is two sisters? is that wrong? Why is it wrong? because you think its icky and gross? Many conservative christians call homosexuality gross and icky. thats a horrible argument against homosexuality/gay marriage. If you dont believe in God and objective/absolute morality, all morality is relative and simply the product of the human mind. There is no absolute moral lawgiver that bestows mankind with facts about morality. In other words, if an absolute moral lawgiver God doesn't exist there are no universal moral facts, only moral opinions/feelings. As a Christian, I do believe in an absolute moral lawgiver (God) who gives absolute/objective moral facts and guidelines. It is my belief that God has given his will for sex, and incest isn't a part of it. The apostle Paul condemns incest in 1 corinthians 5. That is my basis for rejecting incest. My view at least provides an objective view for rejecting incest outside of "i think its icky" I
I don't get how you could contort the incestuous question yet have a quick fire response to the false contraceptive question. The object of the hypothetical is to gauge your moral standing the premise is the context. If you enter the quiz with the mindset of judgement then you're taking a different quiz (a quiz that measures your prejudice not moral standing). It is a hypothetical meant to asses where you're moral standings are individually. A couple who happens to be related being sexually involved is different from two close relative actively engaging in sexual acts. I feel in this case you don't have the liberty of rehashing the language to build an image of "I don't discriminate" cause that's not the point like Steve said ...
At first I was against the teacher being fired, but after seeing the questions it seems like it's centered around morality in sexual encounters, and while for a sex ed, psych or similar class that might be appropriate but not in a completely unrelated class, and I have to wonder why she was having students take this test. It's just very bizarre.

Essentially a parent found out that these test were given to students, got pissy and got other parents to be outraged. Forcing her to resign.
