Happy to see that you're back and that making these videos is something that brings you joy again ☺️ Just wanted to let you know that your videos helped me so much when I was applying for a research-based MPhil at Camb last fall - and I got in!!! Better believe I'll be bookmarking this video for when I will be facing the next challenge: applying for continuation to a PhD. Stay happy and healthy and know that you're really helping some of us by demystifying that whole application process ❤️
Woooooow honestly Helena-Celine!! thank you so much for this message means a lot to me, I truly appreciate it. Congratulations on you MPhil!! so happy for you and wish you all the best as you start your PhD applications. Btw what will you be studying and what college will you be part off? :D
@@SamuelDada Hi Samuel! Thank you so much ☺️ I'll be studying psychology (brain development) and joining King's 🥳 Super excited for all this coming year will offer, hope you enjoy the next year as well!
Starting to prep to apply for an MRes+PhD that is done in a partnership of UCL and Cambridge, so glad I've found your channel when I have! I have so many questions so would love it if you did a QnA video at some point! Love your vibe, so positive & intelligent :)
Thank toy so much Kathryn for you kind words, means a lot to me, really appreciate this message, I will certainly try and do a QnA video soon. I wish you all the best as you prepare to apply for your MRes+PhD, I wish you all the best of luck and success. :D
THANK YOU so much for this video and your slides- I have a PhD interview in just over 2 weeks and this is so so helpful! Mines also biology based and I was worried about how much detail I can go into in my slides about my project and this has really helped!!
Some advice if you are a disabled applicant who has speech issues. Request that you can prerecord the interview and send it over to them. It's a lot more work to prepare and does need you to learn how to video edit and fumble over your words over and over again. But, it means you can make no mistakes and will not fumble with your words or have to repeat yourself if you where not properly heard so they can properly understand where you are coming across and you can use every second to focus on content as opposed to fumbling due to your speech.
I was asked to present where I come from and what do I want to do in 10 minutes. I wasn't told to present with slides... Should I do it? What should I answer to "where you come from"?
Thanks for the helpful video. If I may, I want to give you a suggestion: It would be better and more effective If you write the key points on the screen while you are mentioning them. Maybe you are too busy to perform such a thing, but the impact will rise the views.
So glad I've found this video! I've just been asked to deliver a 10 minute presentation on my "research experience to date". I've done internships, a masters and I'm now a RA at addenbrookes. Do you think I should focus on my current stuff or a more general look at everything? I'm terrified haha
Heya Carla!! Congratulations on the interview place!! Don’t be terrified at all you will be fine given all the research experience you clearly have to date. My advice to you is to focus on one research project, preferably your Masters as you have already completed that, so it should be straight forward in terms of discussion. My advice to you is to keep it tailored and focused, essentially less is more talk only about significant and key findings it’s always very tempting to put everything to show then that you have worked really hard but it’s so much better if you keep it simple and straight to the point so they have a take home message from your talk. I wish you all the best! 😊
@@SamuelDada just wanted to say thank you so much, I stuck to my masters project and followed your advise, I think it went okay! Yet to hear back, but I did the best I could have so I'm chuffed (:
hii I have an phd interview in few days... they asked me to present for 20 min including my research and about their project. can you please help regarding this? I just want to know if my masters research presentation is enough or they are asking for more since it is a 20 min presentation please help

When you are requested to give your expertise and visions for a PhD topic, please can I present my past work?
Is it Mandatory to wear a formal shirt or anything to you are comfortable with? Can it be a T-shirt?
No not at all! Smart casual is always best but important to wear something you’re comfortable with!!
Thank you your videos are very helpful
