Not that it matters really as most of us know anyway but on Judge Anderson, you did say: "a form of a mutant from the scarred and nuclear cursed earth".

She was one of the best parts in an already nearly-unforgettable movie. From character arc to pitch-perfect actress, she was awesome in the movie. If Karl Urban reprises his role, I hope Olivia reprises hers as well.
Judge Dredd: I was wondering when you'd remember you forgot your helmet. Anderson: Sir, a helmet can interfere with my psychic abilities. Judge Dredd: Think a bullet in the head might interfere with them more. - Dredd 3D Nice Mr H, keep up the good work.
I love how in the movie he kept asking her, "Are you ready?" In the beginning after her response it's almost as if he was thinking "yeah right" after she responded back. Then by the end after asking her the same question and hearing her response he says, "You look ready" as if he had perfect trust in her abilities and his approval of her skills as a Judge. Fucking loved Karl Urban as Dredd. My only concern of the TV show is that it won't have a hard R rating and the fact that TV series have a track record for killing an IP turning it into a POS just to squeeze out every ounce of ratings they can get from it, usually the end is very lackluster and a far cry from it's once potential. There's only so many examples of this happening to really great and once interesting series.
My introduction to Anderson was in the judge Death original storyline. I didn't realise at the time that that was her introduction too - she seemed so well developed. But my favourite moment for Anderson was the moment after she defeats Satan and saves the city, bloody and bruised she's lying on the ground and Dredd offers her a hand telling her he was wrong when he said they weren't friends. I can't remember anyone else getting Dredd to admit he considered them a friend. Plus she tells Dredd off more than anyone!
In the news, Professor X opens a dimensional Rift to obtain a new student, as he has not caused harm to anyone, no Justice was carried out upon him. Later in the news, A New Judge has taken her place, Judge Punisher, proclaims the Law is awesome, crime goes down 27% and dropping.
She is the law? thanks Mr H for this it was welcome after my covenant binge. I again agree with your Dredd movie assessment although I would have liked a cursed earth mention in regard to her abilities.
Dude, thank you, thank you, thank you! I loooove Anderson and was so hoping you would cover her. I have been collecting the Case Files of Judge Dredd and so I read her first appearance in the Dark Judges arch and fell head over heels for the character. You said it best that she is the perfect counter-part to our favorite Judge because of her sense of humor and his lack of one. Great video, man, hope the Dredd series turns out great!
Yes Judge Hershey is canon but she has no relationship to Dredd in the comic unlike that crappy Stalone movie. In fact Hershey becomes Chief Judge in the comics.
Wait... they're making a Judge Dredd tv show? Holy shit, i hope they get Karl Urban and Olivia Thrilby to play Dredd and Andersson. The movie was fucking awesome!
many say the original Dredd wasn't that bad. I thought it was alright. if they'll come back and reprise their roles. Carl Urban and Olivia Thirlby who played the duo may be on to their own franchise. some both actors probably could use seeing as we don't hear much from the actress anymore these days and Urbans only real movies he's really known for are one the top bad guys in the Riddick franchise and Bones of the new Star Trek series
The Robot's Revolt (circa issue 13) and the Day the Law Died (circa issue 78) are the best sagas in the Dredd canon. These would be truly awesome if it were possible to bring them to life in a movie or series. Thanks for posting!
Really informative vid. Thanks! I never read Judge Dredd as a kid, but I loved the most recent movie. Somehow, I heard that Anderson wasn't made up for the movie, and so I wanted to know a little of her back story. Thanks again! :)
2:44 where PSi Judge Anderson is in the sleep. I sure that box thing she is in was 'Boing' but they shaped it to box-shaped. It was for keeping Death trapped. Boing was originally round and surrounded the person. A person could jump from high buildings inside Boing and bounce safely.
Mr. H Reviews took your advice in yesterday's live stream and ordered Apocalypse War. Now it looks like I have to get the completion of Jude Death before I read it. Oh well I got the summer off so cool beans and thanks for the advice!
Thanks you for explaining the Judge Dredd cannon in such an awesome way. I liked the Dredd movie in 2012 but didn't really get too curious about the lore till your eloquent explanation in the videos. I was so missing out! Keep the Dredd videos coming!
the series Psi files Anderson, included a awesome amount of stories written by Alant Grant and amazingly drawning by Arthur Ranson, in certain mode, explores several supernatural but mainly mysthic aspects of the human mind and the world who surround it, with Anderson as catalyst of those things, but also shows her more strongest battles both physical and psychic, against the dark forces who try to ravage the despicable and infamous ''world'', where she lives, while she battles the dark judges, the sisters of death (and their ''cousins''), half life even the devil himself, she seems to sink more and more in the darkside, but the gloomy plots convey the feeling, that the true end for all, supernatural or not, is just unavoidable, and can hardly be postponed, it's my opinion.
dont remember Anderson, but i remember reading Dredd when i was about 8/1980ish. most faids from memory, but i always remembered one scene where a man wanted to jump off a building to his his death and the crowd chanting JUMP,JUMP,JUMP. it was my Uncles collection, they were stacked 2 feet tall. i bet he just binned them, sigh.
I only got to know of her through the movie and I immediately liked her. I would like to see another movie with both her and Karl urban as dredd of course and the storyline you mention of judge death. I only get to hear these comic story's through you Mr h and I love them and can't get enough of em. I really hope you continue to do more judge dredd stuff and im looking forward to seeing your bladerunner breakdown. for me Mr h MORE THE BETTER as I love what you do.
Watched Dredd because I love the screenwriter. Kind of dismissed the characters before but came around after seeing that moving and have been reading a collection of early 2000 AD stories.
My first introduction to Cassandra Anderson was in the Judge Dredd Lawman of the Future comic, which although aimed at kids still kept the dark tones of Judge Death. Sadly she didn't appear in that comic very often as it only had a short run but it was enough to get me interested in Dredd and the other Judges. Over the years I've thoroughly enjoyed catching up on everything related to Judge Dredd and Mega-City One.
I never read the comics, but I am very pleased on how they stayed true to it during the movie. I loved Anderson's idealism, especially when it was approved by the more cynical and serious Judge Dredd, who referred to her conviction she could make a change as "admirable". He may not share that idealism, but he doesn't dismiss it either. I also adore how, during her growth, she does not throw away her idealism or making a difference, of helping the victims. When she is certain to be barred from the judges, she still save the hacker by classifying him as a victim. That's what she do, she helps people, no matter what. In the end, I loved Anderson for the hope she brings to this dark setting. I also love Dredd for his efficiency and dedication, as well as for the hints of Humanity that can be seen through his actions despite how hard he must be to continue his work. However, Anderson IS that humanity that shine through, even through the darkest passages. Nothing tells that it'll last forever, but I can see how she can be an icon. Both of them embodies a purpose of Justice. Dredd embodies Order. Anderson embodies Compassion.
I not only enjoyed Judge Anderson in Dred but wished we got just a small shred of emotion from Dred as she walks off thinking she failed the final only for Dred to past her and say, "rookie, see you a work tomorrow" while still cold it would be his way of saying you pass. But I always enjoy these history breakdowns.
Good video as always, so I would like to know more about probably a lesser known character called Strontium Dog and what connecting he has to the Judge Dredd universe besides being labeled as the galaxy's deadliest mutant and the reason I ask is because in one of your older videos you used a picture of him with Dredd, so is he a mutant like the others in the Dredd universe or something else.
Richard Payne You're thinking of Strontium Dog, a separate story in 2000AD featuring mutant Johnny Alpha. There has been crossover stories with Dredd & Mega-City 1, one of which sees Alpha & Dredd team up to save the world from a force that threatens to destroy it. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judgement_Day_(Judge_Dredd)
My first exposure to Judge Andersen (and Judge Death) was not from any of the movies. I never actually had my hands on any of the comics either. It was from playing the Judge Dredd PINBALL machine that I became familiarized with those two characters. By the way, that was a GREAT table to play - very fun modes on it and one of THE most unique playing fields I’ve ever seen in pinball. That title came out before any of the movies, so the theme was based solely on true cannon.
My first introduction to this charector was the movie Dredd, i actually did not know that Judge dredd was a comic till i saw this second imagining of the comic in movie form.
well my first interactions with the Anderson character was with the the recent Judge Dredd with Karl Urban I'm excited for the Judge Dredd TV series I really wait to hear for the casting news on it I'm also looking into getting a Judge Dredd collection hardcover of Judge Dredd and Anderson stories I don't think they're older Comics I think they're a some news stories
I saw her first in the movie and was surprised to find after reading the recent re releases of the dredd comics that wasn't a main character right from the get go especially since I thought she was one of the best parts of the movie having been an awesome and great character.
I knew of her from her first episode in 2000AD. Showing her capabilities and wit mostly in The Apocalypse War Ending and City of the Damned. Olivia got her as a Rookie spot on!
The Mega-City One tv show is a perfect springboard to eventually bring in Judge Death to the big screen as many fans want the next Dredd movie to have such a villain.
I don't recall Anderson being a mutant in the comics, only in the film. My memory's pretty hazy and I don't have access to the early progs right now, but I thought that ways had simply been found to harness latent human psychic ability in the future - hence Psi-Division, pyrokines, telepaths, empaths et al.
If the Batman vs Dredd comics are considered canon then they themselves are interesting for Dredd because he has to work with the Dark Knight on 2 occasions and as mentioned in the first comic he doesn't like vigilantes but Anderson makes him see reason because an old fiend of hers is loose in Gotham city with Scarecrow...Judge Death
I'd love to see the "Judge Death" storyline - modern effects could do what a "Ten Commandments" style mega budget took when it was ink on paper. My favorite - after hearing Judge Death's ravings on his quest to end all Life aka Crime - "Golly, Judge Death makes you look like a Liberal!" Dredd - "Any other person, any other day, I'd file charges for hearing that... But I concur..."
I liked Anderson as a comedy character early on (high heeled judge boots wtf) but she almost became a real person starting with Hour of the Wolf and into the Triad/Engram/Corey/Shamballa run. Arthur Ranson draws her the bestest.
Its good to see in the current stories they have realised she's in her mid fifty's (or older) and are now drawing her as looking more aged and tired. Hershey seems to still look too young at times for some who's 54 and lived a life of a Judge.
We have the MCU and the DCEU i hope we will get a 2000 AD Movie/Series Universe I think that Judge Dredd, ABC Warriors, Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog could relatively easy (with some modifications) put in the same Universe/the same Earth But finding a coherent Story to connect those Charakters would be difficult and also finding a big Villain (Like Darkseid and Thanos)
+Sam Ortiz oh I did a video announcing it :) I've reached out to Rebellion the owners and producers of the show, should be able to get updates direct from them! So definitely stay tuned to the channel man :)
I think some people may have misheard me in this video, I don't say Anderson is from the cursed earth, I state she lived close to it.....
I heard it
I got the trade paperback of Judge Anderson: The Psychic Crime Files.
Not that it matters really as most of us know anyway but on Judge Anderson, you did say:
"a form of a mutant from the scarred and nuclear cursed earth".
A Box of Photons “Cassandra Anderson, a form of a mutant from the scarred and nuclear cursed Earth she lived so close to”
No mention of the story where she goes to investigate the face on mars? Then quits the judges and heads off into space? Oh well.
I adored Olivia as Anderson and Urban as Dredd.
And it was god damn well written too
Alex Garland really got the Dredd vibe, desperately sad he didn't get more money and a sequel.
A great combo. They both nailed it, 100%
I'm heartbroken they haven't both been in a long series of blockbuster sequels
"You don't look ready"
she's also the closest thing Judge Dredd seems to have to having a friend
There is also Vienna, Rico, Dolmen, Beeny, Giant jr, and old Morphy (who seems to be the only persons Dredd had every idolised)
@@muzakkiller9820 and Hershy. The pair have great respect for each other, that's about as close to an emotional bond, or friendship, as Dredd will ever get.
Not even remotely.

Fun fact.
When you look in the onomastic study of the name Cassandra, in ancient Greek literature, the name means "Bringer of doom".
brilliant fact
2000 A.D. knew what they were doing in naming her =)
Brill fact in The Cursed Earth they also named a Judge, "Judge Fodder", as in Cannon Fodder. LOL!
Cassandra was cursed with the "gift" of prophecy, in that she was always right but no one ever believed her.
Love it

Ron Kelley Yes but she's a very different character to Anderson. more serious.

The Mega-City One tv show is a perfect springboard to eventually bring in Judge Death to the big screen as many fans want the next Dredd movie to have such a villain.
Loving the videos dude! Any chance of doing some on Mortis, Fire and Fear?
+Nial Prince definitely man!
Had no idea her movie character was comic based but it's awesome that it was!
I loved the way Brian Bolland drew her : )
I don't recall Anderson being a mutant in the comics, only in the film. My memory's pretty hazy and I don't have access to the early progs right now, but I thought that ways had simply been found to harness latent human psychic ability in the future - hence Psi-Division, pyrokines, telepaths, empaths et al.
Judgement on Gotham was my 1st real taste of Dredd and the world back in the 90s
I can't be sure what my introduction to Judge Dredd but I think it was Anthrax's song, I am the Law.
The first time I heard about her is in the PS2 videogame "Judge Dredd vs the Death".
My favorite - after hearing Judge Death's ravings on his quest to end all Life aka Crime - "Golly, Judge Death makes you look like a Liberal!"
Dredd - "Any other person, any other day, I'd file charges for hearing that... But I concur..."
Dredd was such a good movie...
great video! C.
Hershey seems to still look too young at times for some who's 54 and lived a life of a Judge.
yeah she's looked similar for way too long now, then again, drugs!
I have a lot of low exposure.. but. I like Anderson alot. Mostly part of the comics in the 90's and then a lot from the games. a
We have the MCU and the DCEU i hope we will get a 2000 AD Movie/Series Universe
I think that Judge Dredd, ABC Warriors, Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog could relatively easy (with some modifications) put in the same Universe/the same Earth
But finding a coherent Story to connect those Charakters would be difficult and also finding a big Villain (Like Darkseid and Thanos)
i pray to grud they dont drok this up
BBC audio drama the Apocolypse war. Loved it.
My first introduction to the character was the Was the Karl urban judge Dredd movie
great video and thanks to you i now know they are making a tv series hopefully they do judge dredd JUSTICE
+Sam Ortiz oh I did a video announcing it :) I've reached out to Rebellion the owners and producers of the show, should be able to get updates direct from them! So definitely stay tuned to the channel man :)
Mr H Reviews will do and ill check out the video now thanks
Question what do you think of IDW´s version of Judge Dredd.
Personally i like it, i think it has good stories in them.
Are you ready?
You look ready.
I'd let her judge me
Mrs. Anderson, I'm here to take from you what you took from me... PURPOSE!
Loved Dredd was disappointed that underperformed the way it did. It was gritty and very realistic Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby were great together.
I really hope they cast Karl Urban as Judge Dreddfor the tv series he played the character very well
Anderson is necessary for questioning the System as a whole
I think But not sure.. I met her in a Dredd comic where a big huge carnivourous Plant/Jungle infested Megacity 1.
