Now. Anago is a sub-dialect of Yewa dialect. Anago is not a separate language. It is spoken in the stretch of Ogun state west boundary (in Yewa south local government) to Benin Republic. However, being in spoken in a country where Lingua Franca is French, there is bound to be influence of French and further inflections.

Hello I hope you are doing great. I wrote in your comment section last time. The thing is that not everyone asks themselves a deep question about their origins. Someone who is from Poto-Novo don’t like when you call them Nago. Because they estimate that their ascent is closer to Yoruba. And there is also one thing to note the tone can vary from one region to another across the country. I’m from Saketé also and I remember when I was young I had asked a question to an old man that where Eigun and Oro come from and he said from the source which is Oyò. Each village sakété, kétou, kpebê etc… and porto-novo Were created under the reign of the princes from Oyò. But the History of Porto-Novo is a little bit different. Because Porto-Novo is a cosmopolitan area hundreds of years ago until now 🙂 where we have people from other countries like Ningeria too.
Accent differs. Anag/Sakete and Ajase are clans of Yoruba with similarity in language, but differs in accent just like as it's in Nigeria e.g Oyo, Ijesa, Egba, Ekiti, Olukunmi etc, etc
*Ara Saketek o wa l'ati ilu Oyo. Do Ife, Ijesa, Ekiti come from Oyo?* The 7 mythical grandchildren of Oduduwa are: Olowu of Owu, Onisbe of Sabe, Onipopo of Popo, Oba of Benin, Orangun of Ila, Alaketu of Ketu, Alafin of Oyo. Of these 7 kingdom, 3 are in Republic of Benin (Sabe, Popo and Ketu), and only the other 4 are in Nigeria (Owu, Edo-Bini, Ila and Oyo). Points is Yorubas in Republic of Benin are aboriginal to the place, and not from migration from Oyo. Original Yorubaland extends from the current Edo and Delta states all the way to Eastern Togo, before Europeans erected borders to divide us into 3 countries.
I really don’t like when we tried to create any form of differences btw Yoruba subgroup outside of Nigeria, either because of their different clan name or differences in dialect or their location within the country they live, these people are just like Yoruba people within Nigeria that has different clan amongst themselves, like Oyo, Ijebu, Ekiti, Egba etc but we identify ourselves as one people, so it’s important for us to help these people to see that they are all one people before they start discriminating amongst themselves because I heard these ladies already trying to establish some differences btw the sakete people and ajase people calling sakete anago and calling ajase Yoruba.
I like your perspective but trust me that what they call each other. According to the history. Ajase should have been a state in Nigeria it has been a state in the oyo kingdom for over 400 years and that’s what makes the city different.
@@abinibihub I understand that but my point is helping them to understand that even tho they have different history, just like Egba has different history, and Ilaje have different one yet we see ourselves as one, they must know they are also one people within the same ethnicity but just different clans. Festivals are normal in a culture. A Christian can participate in a festival if it does not contradict his belief as a Christian. Example, egungun masquerade, if not for the unorganised nature the festival has been conducted in Ibadan, is a good thing to behold. As a Christian, I may not take part in rituals they do, but as a Yoruba, I will definitely support and watch them. It's the culture and tradition of the land. Take a look at the Ojude Oba festival now, I believe traditionalists, Christians and Muslims will participate in that festival, same thing with Eyo Festival in Lagos. In the 90s or thereabout, the late Olufi of Gbongan did the Egungun festival that he even invited some foreigners to come and witness it and this king was buried in a church when he died. So a Christian can promote and celebrate his/her tradition, without going against his/her faith.
