Tony was right for breaking up with Gwen and Gwen was right for not asking him to leave the band. It all worked out. Good music was created out of that.
Come to INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA ...every other Thursday...DISTRICT TAP ON 82ND STREET .....JAI BAKER 3 country western with a twist...THEY FUCKING ROCK....HANG OUT WITH THEM THRU THE WHOLE SHOW AND ON BREAK COOL GUYS
I'm 53 years old, grew up seeing all the "classic rock" bands, really into first wave punk and, of course, metal. I have to admit, though, I've always loved this band and not just because Gwen is hot. Besides good, relatable music I respect and admire the way they did it from the ground up. Clubs, high school gigs, playing at friends parties, etc. They were not the over night sensation some people think they were. As far as the Tony-Gwen relationship and break up go all I can say is...Fleetwood Mac! Gotta respect bands who stay together even though there's heavy personal drama. Rock on, guys!
I passed over this band in the 90's basically because I was passing over all of the bands of that decade. I could see through the contrived "counterculture" movement of the time. I dismissed No Doubt as another corporate entity. I've been learning a few of their tunes for one of the GB bands that I'm contracted with and the analysis of their music has granted me better insight to their credibility as musicians. Whatever their true back story is, this band was pretty talented.
Well said, Sir. I strongly agree with you. I'm in my mid 40's now and I have a lot of respect for this band, too, with just that one song alone..."Don't speak", I fell in love with Gwen Stefani....:)
So, you were a self righteous Hipster :P ND was a Garage Hobby band, something for them to do. i'm sure they played a lot of parks and dive bars and maybe a highschool or two. Took my 10 year old daughter to her very first concert at The Pond to see Tragic Kingdom because Gwen was such a powerfully positive role model. The fact that they split up but made no changes in the line-up proves how "together" they ALL are. The Jame & Gwen Car Karaoke is my favorite laughter piece. I myself was on the verge of mental distress lonely and living in a sheltered environment I made for my self when I first heard no doubt music it collapsed my distress and moved me like no other I loved it so I bought a guitar and still want to jam and here the band play
Look at Gwen's reaction at 5:35 to Tony getting emotional about their relationship. Her eyes widen, she gasp for breath, and looks directly at him. Interesting!
nice piece... always loved this show... as for the band and their relationship, it's really mature to realize the band is the source of everything for all of them, so despite the ebbs and flows of life, the heartache and complications... it takes an intelligent person to not let it overwhelm you, turn you vindictive, and ruin everything out of spite... it takes a whole lot of courage to swallow your own pride for the benefit of everyone involved, *including yourself.*

She’s still a strong woman. She’s a mom now, so her priorities are different. Ironically, she is actually more free than she ever was before. Before she was under pressure from a controlling husband, responsibilities to her band members, and pressure from the industry to keep grinding and making hits. She’s doing things on her own terms now. She talked about how difficult the Push and Shove era was. She had young kids she had to bring on tour with her, her husband was on tour all the time. The guys in the band didn’t understand how difficult life on the road was for her because they had their wives with them. She was close to burnout and mental and physical exhaustion and afraid to say no because she felt responsible for everyone’s success and well-being as the face of the band and the main songwriter. She’s finally learned that there’s a personal cost to being a people pleaser, and she’s doing things on her own terms and pace now.
