They actually used Lore from the comics, along with the Kyoshi and Yangchen novels in this series, which I loved. Kyoshi’s parents was a con artist actor from the earth kingdom and an airbender priestess turned rouge. They abandoned her when she was 7. Everyone thought a boy from Macappu (The volcano town with the fortuneteller) was the avatar, and she was his maid. Earth was the element she struggled with the most even though it was her starting element.
Yeah they did their research! They've done their best for BOTH fans and new-watchers. Also lil stuff from KORRA. The later episodes are DEFINATELY MUCH STRONGER than the 1st half🔥
Kyoshi's lore is so amazing I honestly hope her story gets adapted into an animated series, bc it's so intriguing and interesting, even in her later years with creating the Dai Lis

I think it was logical for Aang to actually connect with Kiyoshi like he did on her island, with her shrine there. It makes narrative sense, and I wish they had done something similar in the original tbh. One of the changes I actually liked.

Although i dislike that Kyoshi was the one who gave Aang his mission, instead they could've had Kyoshi tell Aang to contact Roku, as this conflict was the result of his failure. That way they won't break the line of succession and took away Roku agency as his own character. Also removing that scene where Aang talks to Momo and Appa about being the last remnants of their cultural heritage hurts his character a bit.
am I the only one who noticed that when Kyoshi grabs the soldiers with the water tentacles they´re already finished? She just wasn't satisfied and wanted to beat some asses again😂 I love her
Okay, so my current feelings after this episode are the same as before the series. Iroh is going to be a really hard character to get the same, to make him the way everyone wants him. And to be fair, he didn't know all that much more than others did about Sozin's initial motivations. In the OG, what Zuko reads about Sozin and Roku's story is vague at best. He could only explain the start of the war from how it was for him in the beginning, at least at this stage. As for Katara, to duplicate how her and Aang's relationship starts off is also really complicated. I think Marisha Ray explained it beautifully on her Instagram, her motivations in this one are way more about being a Waterbender, she's not as much burdened by her mother's death. I think how they started out being co-ed benders makes more sense than they have a flame of rip, even though the change makes their development slower. When it comes to the old Avatar Spirits embodying Aang, I also really want there to be a scene for Roku's Spirit as well. That clip is iconic and I want to experience it in live-action, but I'm with Carter, I don't think it makes sense after this one has happened. He might still be how they discover the comet, but maybe its more lowkey. I don't know. I hear Jackson's complaints, and I see why anyone would struggle with this series. People who are deeply attached to the OG all still really crave an exact live-action recreation. Unfortunately this is an adaptation, and Netflix wasnt super upfront with that. However, McCay and Brig seem to like this more, which isn't really surprising. They enjoy the original now, but they've been craving a darker take on the super interesting world this show provided. I really want to see your opinions on the whole series, because even though I think it's widely different, the emotion I got out of it by the end was largely the same. Can't wait to see more!

You all talked about Percy Jackson in an earlier episode of the ATLA cartoon reactions. PLEASE do a reaction to the PJ live action show (with all the ppl who were saying they read it 5 times) after you finish the ATLA live action. I'd love to hear your opinions on it.
26:00 This take is so accurate. I think there's so many moments like this in the show where the characters end up feeling very one dimensional because they are either happy, sad, or blank faced. There's very little nuance to their reactions. And that's mostly a directing issue. They need to know what the characters should be feeling and get feedback from the director on how to make their reaction match those feelings well on camera. This show has excellent casting, effects, set design, and everything else, but the two main things falling flat are the two most important: the writing and directing. It's really frustrating that they were so close to having an amazing show, with all the pieces in place, but the person placing the pieces clearly wasn't competent enough to pull it off to it's full potential. Again, hopefully they can improve upon these issues in the next season because they have the pieces, they just need to put them together in the right way.
Growing up watching and rewatching ATLA cartoon a lot of times, for me this adaptation is awesome. Some scenes were lacking but its season 1, its good that it becomes better as new seasons come than starting with a "perfect" season 1 then no more improvements the following seasons. In my opinion, its better to watch the live action series on its own than always looking back to the cartoon to compare it. Even if they do remake the cartoon to live action scene per scene, episode by episode, ATLA cartoon is on its own league. While this live action is a fresh start that hopefully brings a new light to viewers.
After a few rewatches of some of my favorite scenes in the Live action I honestly could say there are definitely highlight moments that emphasizes the heart of the show. Im honestly hurt at some plot removals and changes but Im honestly so grateful for the genuine effort of cast and crew. I can finally get rid of the M Night version in my head. And to give also credit to the show runner, Book 1 of the animated series lacked so much depth storywise but accelerated to legendary status on Book 2 and Boom 3. Thats why im veeeeeery optimistic for the improvements thats coming hopefully if netflix will give the green light. I need to see Toph and her metal bending & Kataras Blood bending & Zukos Agni Kai with Azula. I NEED to see these in Live Action.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the Cast and Crew! ♥️ Good news! Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender gets 2-Seasons Renewal to conclude live-action adaptation! On March 6, Netflix has just confirmed that it will renew ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender‘ for Seasons 2 and 3. Aang’s journey will conclude in Season 3, just as it did in the animated series from Nickelodeon. After topping the Netflix streaming charts, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender received a massive double renewal that lets the show continue on through season 2 and 3. While the episode count for each season has not been disclosed, Netflix confirms showrunner Albert Kim and his team have enough runway to adapt the entirety of the Nickelodeon animated series, which ran for three seasons. Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Netflix Feb. 22, and even though there were loads of mixed reactions within the fandom at large, everyone seemed to watch it. The show became the streamer's No. 1 English-language TV project with 41.1 million views in 11 days, according to Netflix. Since the show’s debut on February 22, it has been the top English show with 41.1 million views in just 11 days. The series has ranked as the No. 1 show in 76 countries and in the top 10 in 92 countries. We already know there will be a time jump in between seasons 1 and 2. Albert Kim explained in a previous interview with EW that he needed to make tweaks to the story in order to account for his young actors visibly aging up on screen. Cormier, who auditioned for Ang at the age of 11, is now 14. Kiawentiio, who joined the show at 14, is now 17. And so on. “All three seasons of the animated series essentially take place in the course of one calendar year,” Kim said. “There was no way we could do that. So we had to design this first season, especially, to accommodate the possibility of some time elapsing between the first and the second season.” ♥️
As I've grown and got disappointed by adaptations time and time again I've learned to not expect adaptations to be carbon copies of their original material, nowadays I see it for the waste of time and resource it'd be. The original is there, you can rewatch it everyday if you want to, is both fun and funny and then there is this one, more serious and way shorter but also faithful enough that if you say they've destroyed your memories you must be delusional or childish as fuck. They have limited resources for what they can do (to make things happen here they don't have to just draw but to pay for them), limited time, only 8 episodes, and they have to make the show pay itself and attract new public because original fans are the hardest critics, the story has to change. It is actually impossible to make a 100% faithful adaptation when you have different objectives and resources and who wants that? Seems dumb to view live actions as just a way to see people acting on things that already exist and were already done since if they did do that we would all just still prefer the animation anyway.
The best way to watch the show is to digest it as if you've watched it the first time for you to enjoy. The sequences and storyline changes were made to create excitement and curiousuty from fans who really know the entire timeline of the story for them to keep watching coz if they do it the exact same way from the animated version, you would already know what's gonna happen the on all the episodes.
It’s kind of telling watching dude in the middle actively trying to not like it while everyone else around him is like 😮. His face screams “this isn’t like the show”. You’re swimming against the current for what? Just go with the flow and enjoy the ->adaptation
So this comment isn’t in reference to you guys but to the reaction to this live action series in general… Avatar is a cute show and had some great lore, characters, and world building but everyone is acting like it was a masterclass in writing and dialogue. It was a great show but I think people’s nostalgia is elevating the original series above where it actually is. So to critique the dialogue in this live action version is kind of goofy because the dialogue is on par with the original series. The only thing that is different is that it’s real people having to deliver it, it’s more streamlined, and has a more serious tone. I get being critical but this could have been wayyyy worse. So either enjoy it for what it is an adaptation or just don’t watch it.
I love this Avatar adaptation 😍 I also would love for Suki's lovestory to stick until the end😊 It'll be funny if she saw him again and then becomes jealous of other women😂
where is LOK reaction??? It's a good show for reaction content, why stop at ATLA? There's gonna be more shows coming for Avatar universe.. skipping LOK unacceptable 😥
I really appreciate the lengths that this version's showrunners went to in order to accurately portray just how miserable, hopeless and broken the world became from enduring an ongoing raging war without the avatar, causing even the most devout of followers (i,e the inhabitants of Kyoshi Island, especially Suki's mom) to doubt the very foundation and fundamental beliefs of their society, that is the Avatar's unrelenting guidance and protection.
I'm a hardcore fan, but I'm also a reader who has seen many favourite booksget adapted to movies/shows. Being a fan of the original content doesn't mean you CANNOT enjoy an adaptation, you just have to be open minded. This show was GREAT (ep3 was mid tho didn't like that one), you just have to stop being so strict and LET YOURSELF enjoy the ride!
Exactly! People criticising the adaptation for not being a 1:1 recreation of the og and og season 1 was even hard to sit through at times, while the adaptation made it super engaging and interesting
The Kyoshi Island episode in the show serves as a filler episode, but it is also the first time we learn about a past Avatar. Avatar Kyoshi is the first Past Avatar that is talked about in the show and she has huge following, probably the biggest fandom of all the past avatars. It makes a lot more sense that Kyoshi would make an appearance since her island is being attacked as well. From a story telling perspective, this works a lot better, at least for the live adaptation. They are actually including a lot considering the series is only 8 episodes. As much as i love some of the filler episodes, I do not want them added to the episodes because they will take away from the overall story and pacing of the show.
The mother says nothing that happened couldn’t be replaced or repaired. Their spirit was living but not thriving and with Aang back in the world she has hope. Her reaction was correct.
Yo I clicked on this reaction so fast cause I watched the whole thing and I knew you guys would hate this episode.😂😂 But even though I enjoyed the season ,there were some changes that even I was like “NOOOOOO !
HELLO WHAT HAPPEN ?!? I’m waiting for the rest
nerd with the glasses is saying wut im thinking 😂
"HE RAN!" GAWD that delivery was uniquely sassy. I loved it lol cemented my luv of the actor 👍
Still waiting for episode 3😢
Episodes 4 & 6 are highlights
4 episodes in and this show is literally killing me. I had to start watching the OG as a palette cleanser 😢
I like how in this version they just randomly go to Kyoshi island but have no reason for it or anything, that kinda felt flat.
How optimistic you wanna be?
Carter: yes
THE NERD WITH THE GLASSES IS GOOD LOOKING! thank u for reading my comment lol
Ey you guys need to stop comparing the scenes to the animation. That’s not really gonna happen to the live action.
The moment I saw Kyoshi I'm hauling ass. Period
y'all shouldve watched korra first bc there's a couple of references to it in this show that none of u are gonna get lol
Instead of watching this trash you guys should take one legend of korra s3 is peak avatar
That was. 1%kyosho. She can even freeze the hearts of everyone their without sweat😂
Isnt that how the town reacted in the cartoon, happy and hopeful cause the avatar saved them? Its the same thing here
As I've grown and got disappointed by adaptations time and time again I've learned to not expect adaptations to be carbon copies of their original material, nowadays I see it for the waste of time and resource it'd be.
💅🏼 HE RAN!!! 💅🏼
You guys need to learn how to talk at once 💀
ADHD goes crazy sometimes😂😂
i love the show but i also love to watch jack hate on it lmao
need mic for everyone
me at 7:45: SUKI STAND UP GIRL DAMN 😂😂💀
The best way to watch the show is to digest it as if you've watched it the first time for you to enjoy. The sequences and storyline changes were made to create excitement and curiousuty from fans who really know the entire timeline of the story for them to keep watching coz if they do it the exact same way from the animated version, you would already know what's gonna happen the on all the episodes.
The only curiosity I had was how could the writing be that bad
It’s kind of telling watching dude in the middle actively trying to not like it while everyone else around him is like 😮. His face screams “this isn’t like the show”. You’re swimming against the current for what? Just go with the flow and enjoy the ->adaptation
Where is the rest guuys
15:00 AHAH that's true!
need legend of korra badly 😭😭
I LIVE
not everyone calling the dude with the glasses a nerd 💀
cause he is?
So this comment isn’t in reference to you guys but to the reaction to this live action series in general…
Avatar is a cute show and had some great lore, characters, and world building but everyone is acting like it was a masterclass in writing and dialogue.
I love this Avatar adaptation 😍 I also would love for Suki's lovestory to stick until the end😊
It'll be funny if she saw him again and then becomes jealous of other women😂
where is LOK reaction??? It's a good show for reaction content, why stop at ATLA? There's gonna be more shows coming for Avatar universe.. skipping LOK unacceptable 😥
the kyoshi scene was cool but not at the expense of Roku's scene...
that was a dumb move
I really appreciate the lengths that this version's showrunners went to in order to accurately portray just how miserable, hopeless and broken the world became from enduring an ongoing raging war without the avatar, causing even the most devout of followers (i,e the inhabitants of Kyoshi Island, especially Suki's mom) to doubt the very foundation and fundamental beliefs of their society, that is the Avatar's unrelenting guidance and protection.
Sokka actor is my favorite one!
Season 1 in the animated series was by far the weakest and these changes made it abit better for people who are non- ATLA to watch
Exactly! People criticising the adaptation for not being a 1:1 recreation of the og and og season 1 was even hard to sit through at times, while the adaptation made it super engaging and interesting
I loved the series. I just appreciated it as its own thing.
There will be two more seasons (hopefully) to continue to develop the characters and plot
Why would you do that!? 😂😂😂😂 Like you said just watch it as it’s own show and you’ll have fun😊
