Hope you guys enjoy the video! It took us forever, but we wanted to do some proper testing + test some unique things (like Apple Intelligence & LLMs) + also re-test every single Apple Silicon Mac that had. Hope you enjoy it! 😊
It makes me wonder whether it's best to buy the base M4 Mac Mini and bump up the RAM rather than paying for the M4 Pro Mini. It's the lure of those TB5 ports and higher refresh rates that makes me still undecided.
Testing so many models is great. I have been looking for comparisons to my M1 pro for weeks now. And great data visualiation as well. The only thing missing tmh is a battery test on hard and soft tasks. Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for the video. Can I delete the inside-disk OS system and only use the OS system in the external disk? Can I use Apple intelligence using the external disk OS system?
i wouldnt be suprised it people wanted double the maximum storage on the mac studio. and i feel like apple would increase that and then remove the 256gb option
Yeah one thing worth noting is that ~SOME~ AI models run into errors with 128gb of ram so for now unless you want to debug code a 64gb Mac is optimal for all of your experimentation.
Great vid. Thanks. I liked the way you highlighted the lines that were relavent during your voice over. I’m getting the M4 Basic with 2TB external storage.
after watching your video, instantly clicked on sub and you are only the third I have subscribed together with mobiletech review and nickackerman! Nobody else provided this type of statistics and benchmarks for the M silicon perfomance. Bravo!
This is honestly the best video comparison of M series Macs. I would also consider adding a real world multitasking benchmark, just to see how many apps can be open. I find my M1 to struggle a bit on the GPU side with 2*4k displays and Discord, Notion and Figma running. Probably Ram related, but would be interested to know if the M4 is any better.
I think the icing on the cake for this video would have been actually breaking down the difference in the architecture of the GPUs. Clearly from generation to generation they must be increasing the APU (Arithmetic Processing Unit) per GPU core through miniaturization. This would be comparable to the way nVidia GPU CUDA core counts that really show the separation between binned chips. On the Mac side I have never seen any reviewer actually analyze this aspect of improvements between M chip generations. I would really really really love it if you dug around and isolated the actual GPUs and break them down beyond the "core count". Thank you for making excellent review videos! Cheers!
You guys did really good work , made a very useful video, and I use alot of times apps GPU intensive, such as blender and I couldn't found any video of mac mini m4 running blender 4.3 test so thanks for that ❤
I love my base Mac Mini, just geta SSD and move your home to that and install apps on the SSD and you're good. I wish a ram upgrade wasn't so much. I will be getting a MBP M4 Max (minor version) with 36GB of ram sometimes this year for heavier lifting, but the Mini has exceeded my expectations!
I owned and used a 2011 Dual Core Mac Mini, when all the ports were full and using say 4 tabs in chrome, after an hour or so you could fry an egg on it.
180GB in 21s ? Hmmm that sounds too good to be true, just the math doesn't add up. The M4 Pro Mini 512GB SSD doesn't write at 9GB/s sustained speed... Sometimes macOS tells it's done doing things, but it's not done yet... I also have an M4 Pro Mini, and I'm going to try something similar. Are you sure the folder size wasn't 18GB rather than 180GB?
i activate sleep via the lower left hot corner on my imac and it goes black. on the mini m4 it goes to the wallpaper and not black. how can i get the monitor attached to the mini to go black like the imac? both have the same 15.1.1 system.
this is interesting... im thinking about getting the m4 mac mini 256gb and external ssd and enclosure to run the system off of.... the read and write speeds on the external ssd will be much faster than the actual mac mini's ..... What do you think?
Why would you test games on a Mac? Most major game companies ignore Macs. What might be relevant is testing game performance using emulators on the Mac. But if you are a serious gamer, you probably just buy or build a PC. My son has an M1 MacBook Pro for video, photography, and audio production, but games on a Windows box.
Gaming benchmarks don’t mean anything until cyberpunk releases on the App Store, then we’ll see. M4 ultra will be the one shaking the interest of devs to consider Macs as good gaming platforms or not
Apple has road-mapped the next two or three generations of "M-Series" SoCs and will carefully roll out their performance numbers. I suspect they already have superfast GPUs for realtime 3D/VR/AR and AAA game rendering but might be "holding back" for overall cost and marketing purposes. They can afford to bide their time and watch the Window/PC/Android Industrial Complex and that marketplace continue to stumble (cough - Intel - cough) and fragment. With iPhone and iPad sales leveling off, I think Tim Apple will look to expand MAC OS past it's current 10-12% market share in the laptop/desktop space. Lots of room for growth by offering more compelling Macs to attract more switchers.
This is sad! i've been using the mac since 1995, never people talked about games and this is the first thing most of you do on their channel! who is crazy enough to spend that much money to play games??? Apple always stand for professional, graphism; webdesign... ou don't need a mac for games! And we mac users don't care about games. But you can say the mac mini is for most people browsing the net sending mails etc... that's what is made for and that's what I use it for.

The way you represented your data was much more legible and well paced than other channels.
Best video on M4 mini performance by far and incredible detail levels ❤MCR
Thanks a ton, Richard! We’ve put a lot of work into it. Glad you found it useful 😊
The EU forced Apple to adopt USBC. A.I. forced Apple to adopt 16GB, I wonder what will force Apple to adopt 512GB on base models?

THANK YOU for the LLM tests!!!
You’re welcome 😁🙏🏻
still rocking the M1 macbook pro max stacked out (from launch) on a 4t drive - its still faultless!
I just got the MM M4 based for my daughter, I think it's a great value price to performance
Thank you very much, this is the best video I have seen comparing this entire family of processors
Yeah one thing worth noting is that ~SOME~ AI models run into errors with 128gb of ram so for now unless you want to debug code a 64gb Mac is optimal for all of your experimentation.
Really informative. Think I’ll consider the M4 Pro, possibly with upgrade on RAM. T5 connectors and performance make it a keeper for many years.
Great vid. Thanks. I liked the way you highlighted the lines that were relavent during your voice over. I’m getting the M4 Basic with 2TB external storage.
Mac mini 512gb and 2 tb extenal ssd. More than enough for a lot of users. 256gb if you not going to install so many softwares and games.
The level of detail is awesome! I enjoyed it very much!

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole video. The graphs were on point!
Somehow never found this channel before and it was an automatic subscription after a minute. Great work all!
Welcome to the ZONE! 😊
amazing stunning vid! Well done in all aspects!
Great video! Thank you for all of the effort this took! Despite it's being very complex you made it easy to follow!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
I really really really appreciate your efforts brother! Too much in detail, Thank you brother👏🏻👏🏻

How would these tests work now with the M2/M3 coming in with 16gb change some of these results?
great job with this video! earned a new sub :)
Awesome, thank you!
Best video and love from India --- most original performance test of Mac Mini.... btw i got the Mac Mini M4 Pro 1TB SSD with 64GB RAM

12 years ago you made your first video on Apple Express and now to this❤❤❤
Nice video. Thanks. I watched this on a base model M1 Mac mini. I have no plans to upgrade.
Great vídeo, as always. Very enlightening
Definitely waiting for this to come to the Studio… so the the only question is, when?
I owned and used a 2011 Dual Core Mac Mini, when all the ports were full and using say 4 tabs in chrome, after an hour or so you could fry an egg on it.
I knew it. Only Spirderman can do the best m4 mini review.
What about virtualization?? Is the ethernet port vlan aware??
Many thanks for the detail
LLMs also uses GPU, so GPU cores also counts
Very well done!
Brilliant video. Rich in info
Completely off topic, but your jacket is great. 👏👏👏

how does the M4 PRO handle games?
Was there any mention of thermal throttling?
I see tests that show that the M4 512 is twice as a fast at write speeds as the M4 256.

Looks better!
Great comparisons
M1 Pro multicore less than M1? Cant be right, right?
hey im a stock trader and doing heavy web browsing like 20 to 25 tab base model sufficient for me , or i upgrade 24gb ram??

Is anybody excited over seconds of difference? Listen to yourself 😂
So that people can decide which one to buy? Maybe they're buying a used model? Use your brain
For professionals, that means hours of manpower wasted. It's important.
