In this course, we will consider how great poems from a variety of languages present the nature and experience of Jewish memory. Through readings and discussions of poetry, with a particular emphasis on modern poetry, we will explore the ways that Jews remember the past, carry that past into the future, and turn to literary creativity as a way of expressing and realizing the complex dynamics of Jewish remembrance.
