A little pull. Yes! Gold again Marcus! What I have realized that when I started doing this it made my backswing way more consistent. I am getting closer to around the same spot at the top of my swing. Also, it "feels" like it is more in the same spot. Thanks again for making the golf swing more crystal clear!
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad What is also interesting, last evening I went out to the putting green and used the same pull/push with my putter using a slight split grip (mini Hockey Grip lol). Wow, what a wonderful difference in my putting! I was amazed! I found I could take my putter back more smoothly and didn't move it offline going forward.
I can't wait to try this motion you describe in this video, pull in on the backswing. I'm 83 and I was ready to give up golf. I started watching all different golf instructors on UA-cam and there are sooo many. I had a whole folder full of various instructors and I was so confused about my swing until I found your UA-cam channel. I deleted the folder and now I only watch your videos and the last time I played my friends said that I really hit the ball well. Thanks to you Marcus!
Finally i get it. My swing path has been correct but have been hitting all over the place. The backswing was the fault. My trail elbow has stayed close to my ribcage and hands lead the backswing motion and you cant push from that position. I also revisited your old videos about elbow position and how to push. Thanks Marcus! Now i can ingrain this motion and then get back on track to increase my clubhead speed again 😃
Played a full round today at my local course. All time record 73 (+1) first time trying this. Even while this is a new motion and needs practice, the clubface control is amazing 😃
So good to have you back coach. When I hit it well, it kind of looks and feels how you describe the swing. It’s remarkable. The ball flight is near perfect. Then, the next day, something’s off … raise my head, wrists tight, early release on irons, pull lead arm too far on backswing. The list goes on. This post helps again . It feels great - very powerful - especially when combined with the picture of throwing the club away from myself - just as you told us in your previous video. Apparently, I need your regular reminders to keep me on track. Great video, this took me back about 5 years ago when I was a mid low HCP I was playing my best. . Then I started taking lessons from local Pros and even GolfTec. Hey Marcus, Great video! I really loved the circle of speed mentioned here, pulling the club back into position, and focusing on the trail side of the body for a powerful draw. Your highlight of the role of the elbow in generating speed from the side rather than in front reminded me of one of your older videos where you hit balls while completely facing the target to underscore the significance of the trail side in your technique and creating that circle of speed. The slow-motion analysis at the end of the video was particularly helpful in understanding your method. One thing that also stood out is your footwork, where your right foot does not seem to impede your movement, allowing for a smooth and dynamic transition to the lead foot. Could you create a video elaborating on your footwork? It seems to play a crucial role in generating power and achieving consistent ball striking. Your ability to smoothly transition from the right side while maintaining balance and ending on your lead foot is impressive!!
I need to think about that one. I can see that it (my footwork) changes a bit from different videos but the ball flight stays the same. I will try to analyze it better and see if I can make it worth talking about. 👍
@@GolfwithMarcusEdbladYour footwork is extremely consistent and within balance even if you slightly change here and there from your other videos I have observed. I mention this because my trail side along with many of my friends tends to stay stagnant and planted for too long, subsequently the turn is limiting to the finish of the golf swing. This video you emphasize swinging in not in front of you, but from the trail side which helped me understand where your circle of power is being generated from. Your resulting swing to the finish is free flowing where you’re facing the target for that beautiful draw. You do it so naturally and perhaps you don’t think much about it, but for many I think the feet tend to stay less dynamic than you which prevents that natural power you produce. I hope that makes sense and helps understand what I am saying? :)
@@RWCARC I understand what you are looking for but it's hard to teach. Every golfer I show how the hand circle is made get a better footwork for free. I never need to teach foot work and that surprise me. I need to figure out how to explain that before I talk about it. 🤔
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I read that Scottie Scheffler has described his footwork, particularly the unique movement of his trail foot, as a natural part of his swing that he doesn’t consciously think about. He has said that his trail foot action, which often lifts off the ground and shifts dramatically during his follow-through, is something he has done since he was young and is just a part of how he swings the club. Scheffler emphasizes that he focuses more on the overall mechanics and timing of his swing rather than specific movements of his feet. This natural and instinctive approach to his footwork has become a distinctive feature of his swing. Almost like your swing as you describe which just naturally promotes it for free. 😉

Good to see you are recovering. It looks great So many other instructors talk about keeping the ball in front of the body. Im keen to try this. Thanks for another excellent vid
When I do this pulling motion I see that this works as a leverage or hinge in the backswing. I also feel that I can push away from me. Still need to take it to the range but I have backyard 60M and some small balls as the size of golfballs that looks very much like tennisballs and been hitting shots today just to get a sense of it.
Another great video Marcus, which finally solves my backswing problem! 😊 Could you clarify two more aspects 🙏, the easier, ball position and the slightly more difficult one, with which eye and how you look at the ball? I am left-handed and my dominant eye is also left, which forces me to turn my head slightly so as not to lose contact with the ball during the swing. Could you share your experiences in this regard? Thank you and best regards J
I can't help with the dominant eye thing because both my eyes can see the ball so I don't know what to tell about that. The ball position part I have a series about. Watch this as a start: ua-cam.com/video/uUew2957d5A/v-deo.htmlsi=-KqZz99tn0S2L62z
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Thank you, I will definitively watch your videos on the ball position. As for the dominant eye, I guess in your case the right eye is the dominant one, so when you swing as „leftie” you have no issue as your dominant eye is the one closer to the ball, but „leftie-leftie” has more difficult situation because the dominant eye is further away from the ball and if you swing „too far” then you may loose eye contact with the ball, hence my question. In my view it’s an issue that is often not considered by golf coaches at all, however, it’s an important one. Yes, you think you see the ball with both eyes, but in reality your dominant eye is „responsible” for the eye-ball contact. Take care, best J
Glad you are back Marcus with some more tips. One problem I have is with the lead wrist (L) - was told for years to keep it flat at top of back swing, but with your method I feel a cupped wrist is no problem. Do you even think about your (right hand for you) being cupped at the top or just let it go? I need to unlearn some things still.
Depending on the different grips we use the wrist will look different at the top even when the club is in the correct position. I think about doing the circle correct and I then get a cupped wrist and it works great. 😊
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Perfect. I have to overcome old swing habits, like bent lead arm and cupped wrist. From other sports those 2 things are big sources of speed.
Hi Marcus, I'm SO glad this topic came up and here's why; When you say you 'pull back' your trail elbow, how exactly? Do you pull it back say six inches and then take your hands up over your trail shoulder? Do you simply have 'a feeling' of moving the trail shoulder back, or is it a deliberate motion for so many inches? Does the trail elbow stay close to the rib cage as you pull it back, or move away from the rib cage, and if so, roughly when does this 'move away' occur? Is it a one piece trail elbow back as the hands reach up over the shoulder, because the hands won't go to the top on their own after the trail elbow is pulled back. (I know, because I tried it) Thanks for any light you can shine on my questions. Stay healthy, my friend.
Firstly I don't think of an exact length in inches. That would paralyze me, detail often do. I think of an circle going back and I hope this video could help: ua-cam.com/video/PvZsJp6jCOw/v-deo.htmlsi=ez2TI7jzmBRTjBzB
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad You're right. I am drowning myself in details. Thank you for this video. It reminded me to keep the action as simple as possible, with simple concepts. One - Two. Pull back - Push forward. or Pull - Push. But seeing in your mind's eye the circle going back and then forward is gold. Thank you so much for your time and patience. Best wishes to you as always.
Good to have you back! Ironically, my teach had me bringing the club straight back or even a little outside. Also on the way up. I may have been yanking it inside too much for all I know! My question is this: Do you find that the club stops going inside when it reaches the center of your trail foot? I would have liked a side angle view on this. Thank you, as always!
It should start going in but doing a circle going back it will very soon start going up. Maybe this video can help: ua-cam.com/video/PvZsJp6jCOw/v-deo.htmlsi=KWA-tQQcX5_kg-S3
Hello Markus, and good morning from Alabama. Thanks to you I hit 11 greens in regulation in yesterdays round, Unfortunately I only sank two birdies out of 11 trys. Most of my putts were inside 10 feet. From the guidance you give me I am confident when hitting the driver and irons, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice on putting. You are the smartest guy I know so any putting hints from you would go a long way to get me sub-par. Thank you my friend for giving me solid advice
Good job my friend. I will probably do some putting drills in the future but not "how" to putt. It's almost like a different sport and I'm not getting in to that. 😊
I swing to get the circle of speed - I believe in it . However my feeling going back is to push straight back I can then drop inside , which to my mind completes the circle and can then hit inside out . This video suggests to me I that I should come inside quicker which to my mind means the circle has gone and it is straight back and through . Apologies if I have not understood your teachings ! Great you are producing so much content again !
I can also do the drop to the inside and it works but moving this way makes it easier I think. But as always, we are all different and think differently. 😊 The circle is there but but we do it in both directions.
Thanks Marcus for such a quick reply ! I understand the point you make , but really appreciate your understanding we may have different feelings to achieve the circle . At least my understanding of the circle seems correct . Thanks again .
I'm a pusher and was having this exact problem and self-conversation on the range yesterday. I tend to sway on my backswing and have to make a conscious effort to prevent it. I'll try pulling next time.
John I have trouble with swaying sometimes too. What helps me is to keep 100 percent of my weight on my lead leg for some shots until I regain the feeling of staying over the ball again. Swaying is such an easy thing to fall into. Especially, for me, when I am tired.
Please always have a slow motion view of whatever you are explaining. Really helps. Also I have been slowly moving the ball back in my stance. The ball striking just keeps getting better. Because of you I broke 80 yesterday.
Marcus, thanks for all of your excellent content and hope your summer is outstandingly healthful in every way. I love your swing analysis; and the one hand fast, and one hand slow is incredibly phenomenal. Can you amplify your hand path, the clubhead is on a swing arc, and your hands are on another swing arc. I notice in hockey the slap shot has the hand position close to the body; while the face of the stix is well outside the hand path. Your high finish in the golf swing is contrary to the hockey swing since hockey shots typically finish with lower hand path. I am really liking your swing analysis, but I find the hand path to be critical in making your predictable draw. I am just wondering how you would describe your hand path arc through the ball; then high finish since when my hands get too far from my body all hell takes place; blocks, heel contact, open face angle ect...thanks for any keys to isolate proper hand path for better contact and ball flight.
Thank you Marcus. Most pro’s instruct us to keep the club in front on the backswing until at least parallel to the ground. Your pull brings the club back quite quickly but I guess that as long as we swing the club up when we get to parallel and not further back that’s okay - indeed preferable. To be honest I’m struggling to see how this remains a circle as we go back then up which makes it an angular movement? Could you explain a little please? Sorry for my misunderstanding as I have great faith in what you teach!
I’ve watched the video again and see the pull brings the club to the trail side “where everything happens”. If we don’t pull it back it stays in front which could promote an over the top downswing (unless we reroute the club and “drop it in the slot” as someone commented earlier).
Dear Marcus! First of all it is great to see you back and all the best for the future from my side! I just tried this pull-push method in my garden 🤣 and was kinda stunned, because every single ball was hit dead straight in the middle of the club face and took the loft the club has. Actually I wasn't able to him more than 40 meters, my garden is not a driving range, but damn, that really works! Which gets me straight to my question: What if I need a fade because it's a dog leg to the right and a draw would bring me into trouble. How do you hit fades with this pull-push? Many thanks and keep on going, love your Chanel! 😎
Maybe one day I do one fade video but not yet. We need mostly change timing. You need to hold and delay the release to get a fade and you need to start the ball different and I open my stance to do that. I explain the hold in the video from last week. 👍
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Many thanks, I checked in one of your other videos how the fade "works" :) Getting on the range now to see how the pull-push works for me with PW, 9i, etc. Many thanks as well for your fast answer - keep on publishing your videos, they are kind of special and a different approach to the game - I really love it!
Marcus, this and your follow your belly button, or at least stay in sync with it guidance have made me unstoppable in my back yard with a wiffle ball. Now, let’s see what happens this Saturday when I take this all to the course and confront a real golf ball. There is always hope. I love your stuff. So great that you are back and fit as ever. Keep it up. Charlie

Hi Marcus, glad to see you enjoying the sunshine, very cold down here in Tasmania. Is this the same principle for the driver, is it like opening a door ? Thanks very much.
Marcus, so good to have you back! Help! I'm left hand dominant but play right handed. Pulling with my right will tend to make my right hand dominant which is very difficult to do. Can you give me a "pull" technique or thought, that keeps my left hand dominant?
Hello Marcus. I recently started watching your lessons and I can say I regret not seeing them sooner! I've tried stack and tilt along with single plane and had some small success with each, but was not consistent at all. After applying your instruction with some practice balls in my yard I took it to the course. To say I was amazed is an understatement! I have never hit the ball so consistently from the tee to the green. I was hitting much farther with much less effort, and the swing is way easier on my body. It feels more natural and I didn't have a bunch of swing thoughts in my head.Thank you for the easy to understand instruction and no-nonsense teaching, and keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing more videos!
Hi Marcus, the lessons I had over the winter period had me focusing a lot on starting the takeaway by pushing the left arm away feeling it through the tricep/back of the arm area , to stop me from coming inside too early , are you pulling back (in your case with your left hand) and engaging that more and your right hand therefore is going along for ride so to speak ? It would make more sense to me, as when I rehearse doing a slap shot , (I’m right handed) my power is coming from my right side ?
Yes. I'm pulling back with my trail arm and hardly use my lead arm, it's just relaxed. I'm also right-handed and I am stronger in my right side but I am still faster in my left side from all left handed slap shots pushed forward.
Brilliant! I clearly understand the takeaway now. Is it exactly the same with the driver? Or is it a little less inside going back inside? BTW I Absolutely love your video instructions!
I assume that the club in hand is your trusty PW … is your ball position in the middle with it … am I correct thinking that most if not all your clubs the middle is your all time ball position I never go past middle unless I want to hit a fade then I move the ball up some depending on the amount of fade I want Could you do a driver video just like this one with the slow motion at the end and the behind body position camera angle This video is gold Your looking strong Big Swede 💪⛳️💪
Hi. I think this was a 6-iron but I do the same with all irons. Ball position from the middle up to four inches back of middle. And thanks, I'm getting a little stronger every day. 👍
Hello Mate, at address is your club face pointing at target, or do you have it a bit open? I'm doing well with your lessons, but over drawing is the main problem.
My club face is slightly open at adress but I'm not so sure that is the problem. Overdrawing is often a cause of a to strong grip or a rolling of the wrist through impact. Watch this: ua-cam.com/video/wi3xyG-OQNQ/v-deo.htmlsi=IPs_lkLVD6LhY9Ih
I’m not practicing drivers of the deck but if I need to I would hit it like a wood along the ground instead of trying to hit up on it. I hope I don’t have to do that because I need to be smarter than that and hit my 3-wood instead. A high fade will happen if I delay my release enough and change my aim. Not often I need to do that and not my favorite shot to hit.
Marcus, do you have a video that shows how the iron is supposed to look at address from your point of view? It’s crazy, but so many people have different ideas of what’s a square clubface.
Wait, did I get this correctly in first take? Am I supposed to feel that I hit the ball from my side, not in front of me? (Also congrats on your recovery, I prayed for your health back in the start of the year)
Yesterday I played with a former ice hockey player, he played with a split handed grip, man he was ridiculously long, I'm far from short, he was 30-40 yards past me of the tee. Unfortunately for him, his short game was poor especially putting.
We all have something to practice but the club speed he got came from one fast and one slow hand. Watch this: ua-cam.com/video/kLi1x-8chHQ/v-deo.htmlsi=MAf6udRY2QSaFizS

ua-cam.com/video/uUew2957d5A/v-deo.htmlsi=-KqZz99tn0S2L62z
Danke!
Vielen dank. 🙏
I think of an circle going back and I hope this video could help:
ua-cam.com/video/PvZsJp6jCOw/v-deo.htmlsi=ez2TI7jzmBRTjBzB
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad You're right. I am drowning myself in details. Thank you for this video. It reminded me to keep the action as simple as possible, with simple concepts. One - Two. Pull back - Push forward. or Pull - Push. But seeing in your mind's eye the circle going back and then forward is gold. Thank you so much for your time and patience. Best wishes to you as always.
Thank you from Canada. Our Edmonton Oilers... Almost !
My pleasure. 😊
Nice video Marcus. Do you have any videos on how to hit a 50-80 yard pitch shot? Those shots are giving me nightmares!
Impact or distance control?
Marcus i hope your health is continuing to improve. Can we have a putting video ? thanks Stan
Hi Stan. I'm leaving putting alone at the moment. It's a whole new world that I'm not sure I want to get in to. Some drills may come in the future. 👍
Thanks again Marcus, makes so much sense and it works!
Happy to help!👍
Good to have you back! Ironically, my teach had me bringing the club straight back or even a little outside. Also on the way up. I may have been yanking it inside too much for all I know! My question is this: Do you find that the club stops going inside when it reaches the center of your trail foot? I would have liked a side angle view on this. Thank you, as always!
It should start going in but doing a circle going back it will very soon start going up. Maybe this video can help:
ua-cam.com/video/PvZsJp6jCOw/v-deo.htmlsi=KWA-tQQcX5_kg-S3
I’m 81 years old and using your swing. Although distance has suffered accurate shots has increased.
Glad to hear that. Distance will probably improve after a while when it feels more natural.
😅
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I understand what you are saying and of course you are right. It is a different sport.
The circle is there but but we do it in both directions.
It will work but it will feel strange in the beginning.
John I have trouble with swaying sometimes too. What helps me is to keep 100 percent of my weight on my lead leg for some shots until I regain the feeling of staying over the ball again. Swaying is such an easy thing to fall into. Especially, for me, when I am tired.
Glad ur back
Thank you. 🙏
Please always have a slow motion view of whatever you are explaining. Really helps. Also I have been slowly moving the ball back in my stance. The ball striking just keeps getting better. Because of you I broke 80 yesterday.
I'll do it more often but not every time. Great job. 👍
You can adjust the speed your self in the bottom of the video, but please turn of the sound😉.
After watching this video that lightbulb is as bright as can be! This motion will be put to use. Thanks Marcus😃
Happy to help!😊
I think you can learn a bit from this video:
ua-cam.com/video/BbQshHbfzlo/v-deo.htmlsi=L7u72V5fe7W-rulD
You got it. As long as we go in and up and not in and behind we will be okey. 👍
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Many thanks, I checked in one of your other videos how the fade "works" :)
Getting on the range now to see how the pull-push works for me with PW, 9i, etc.
Many thanks as well for your fast answer - keep on publishing your videos, they are kind of special and a different approach to the game - I really love it!
Thanks Good advice, will give this a try👍🇬🇧
Sounds good. 👍
Keep it up.
Charlie
Thanks Charlie. Good luck. 👍
Great to see you fit again. Do you lift after pulling back or do you just complete your turn?
I do a circle up to the top and to do that I both lift and turn. Watch this video for more info:

Thanks
Very interesting ,it looks really awkward as a backswing but I’m gonna work on this next thanks Marcus 👍
I exaggerate in the video to feel the pull better.
Hi Marcus, glad to see you enjoying the sunshine, very cold down here in Tasmania.
Is this the same principle for the driver, is it like opening a door ? Thanks very much.
Yes, it is. Going forward we need an earlier release but otherwise we can do it the same.
Hope to visit Tasmania one day. 😊
Marcus, so good to have you back! Help! I'm left hand dominant but play right handed. Pulling with my right will tend to make my right hand dominant which is very difficult to do. Can you give me a "pull" technique or thought, that keeps my left hand dominant?
You can teach your lead hand to do it correctly and that will solv it. Watch this:

@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad thank you!
Thank you but I am only a guide, YOU did the job. Great work. 👍
brilliant........again. Thanks buddy
Thank you. 👍
Marcus, any tips on how to hit in heavy rough?
Actually, Yes:

Appreciate the tip!
Happy to help!
All I’ll say Marcus is thank you , holy shit balls 😂😂😂
Brilliant! I clearly understand the takeaway now. Is it exactly the same with the driver? Or is it a little less inside going back inside? BTW I Absolutely love your video instructions!
Thanks for the kind words. It is the sam with all clubs but we need an earlier extension/release going back with the driver. 👍
Cheers Marcus!
👍
I assume that the club in hand is your trusty PW … is your ball position in the middle with it … am I correct thinking that most if not all your clubs the middle is your all time ball position
I never go past middle unless I want to hit a fade then I move the ball up some depending on the amount of fade I want
Could you do a driver video just like this one with the slow motion at the end and the behind body position camera angle
This video is gold
Your looking strong Big Swede 💪⛳️💪
Watch this:
ua-cam.com/video/wi3xyG-OQNQ/v-deo.htmlsi=IPs_lkLVD6LhY9Ih
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad thanks!
@ 👍
do you turn your wrists or keep clubface closed on takeaway?
I try to turn/twist as little as possible during the whole swing. 👍
How do you hit a high fade or driver off the deck? 🤷♂️
Your body is reacting to with arms moves in downswing or u r using active body swing and less arm ?
Body and arms are both working in the swing but I only train my arms and hands to lead the swing.
Marcus, do you have a video that shows how the iron is supposed to look at address from your point of view? It’s crazy, but so many people have different ideas of what’s a square clubface.
Sadly I don't but I will put that on the request list. 👍
I have been faithful to your approach and will continue to do so. However, yesterday half my shots turned into shanks.
Any suggestions.
I tried this approach this morning and realized I must be pushing the club back and not enough to the side.
The shanks went away.
Glad you found a cure. Great job. 👍
When you pull the club back do the wrists cock naturally or do you make this move at a specific point in the backswing.
Many thanks.
It happens naturally when I try to do the circle up to the top. Watch this video:
ua-cam.com/video/PvZsJp6jCOw/v-deo.htmlsi=PKoJ35jTsqOrkCOc
Thank you for the inside. My problem is that i bring the club inside (to the side) and let the club shallow in the way up😮
Then it's no circle. Watch this video for some tips to get it more up:

@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Watched video: back and up. I spin too much behind me. Thank you for your advice. Make’s golf more fun 👍😀
Wait, did I get this correctly in first take? Am I supposed to feel that I hit the ball from my side, not in front of me?
(Also congrats on your recovery, I prayed for your health back in the start of the year)
Absolutely. At impact you have started turning your side more or less to the ball. Set-up and impact are NOT the same.
Abshire Dale
Start with a pull? Are you pulling the club back with your left hand?
Yes, a slight pull to start everything before I continue on the circle. 👍
This looks right to me i have thought about this before but every other instructor tells you the opposite
Just go and try it and keep it if it works. Listen more to the result and your body in the future. 👍
Watch this:
ua-cam.com/video/kLi1x-8chHQ/v-deo.htmlsi=MAf6udRY2QSaFizS
fun fact: the split hand grip is really good for controlling direction in the short green side position.
pull back or push back?
A pull with the trail arm.
