That's how farmland owners in Europe make some extra cash while culling the numbers of destructive wild boars.
It includes transport from the main house to the hunting site and a picnic place, sometimes even the picnic food and wine produced in the farm.
It can be also a family entertainment since wives that don't hunt (some also do) stay in the visitors area with the children watching the farm animals and learning about farming, cheese making, etc. Kids love it and it's educational.
It's also a good opportunity to sell whatever is produced in the farm.
If the landowner is not keen on running the business he can rent the land for that purpose during certain periods to a hunting party organising company.

Oh please, "ill loose up to 10% some years". The USDA and FDA, literally forces farmers to throw away 3.6+ million tons of food, every year. They do this to control agricultural inflation, however, it also covers farmers in the case of loses such as these because they just dont have to throw away any food or alot less because they produced less. The only reason farmers actually want boars gone in their bottom end, not ours. The median income for farmers is $160,000, with a household median of nearly $300,000. Loosing 10% off that and oh no, they cant buy their 3rd jetski. If an average joe looses 10% of his income he cant afford rent or hang out with friends that month. Im really not concerned for farmers, theyre incredibly protected by the USDA and FDA, our government looks out for our farmers.

The population of Kaua'i is about 80,000 and the estimated population of pua'a (boars) is probably at least 300,000. They destroy forests and need to be eliminated. A controversial subject because hunting has become a traditional activity, though my understanding was original Hawaiians didn't hunt them but kept them domesticated. Gee-I wonder why? They destroy native plants. They cause phenomenal erosion and because they love human food, they destroy human food supplies. Some of them weigh 300+ lbs and they are mostly muscle, despite the moniker "pig"-and being so smart, you can't fool them with tricks, you have to fence them out or in.

Feral pigs are Domesticated Pigs, a different species bred by humans over thousands of years.
A big problem with feral pigs is that we bred them to have as many babies as possible as quickly as possible. So when they go wild they have approximately 40 babies per year, and it overwhelms the local ecosystem

So $1.5 Billion problem, but 9 million wild pigs. Imagine if we had a hunting/trapping program could net half of them. That's 4.5 million. There's quite a bit of expenses there so say one can net $450 on average for each pig(this is a lot less than domesticate pigs right now which indeed are right there at the farm, but wild meat actually sells at a premium). That's at least $2 Billion. I don't see why it's such a big problem. Most of the crops we grow in this country we use to feed livestock that we eat the meat from. In other words, we eat pork so it's a lot better than say possums eating crops. Life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I knew somebody who used to say: "Rabbits are eating some of my garden, but I don't mind so much as I'm eating some of those rabbits!"

The TX legislature has really dropped the ball on this issue. This has been escalating for YEARS and I have yet to see any state politician come up with a thoughtful way to deal with the feral hog problem.
First these TX landowners that exclusively profit off of wild hog "hunts" are a huge part of the problem. Lets be serious here. They have no interest in controlling the population of these animals. More hogs means more profits for them. Given the intelligence, adaptability and breeding rate of feral hogs these properties are just safe havens for the species to continue to flourish.
I also don't think that just "more gun" is the answer to the problem. Feral hog hunting is very common in TX. If just more guns, more bullets was the answer the situation would already be improving. There look to be some interesting products coming to market that aim to control birthrate of the species more directly. A reliable interruption of this species breeding cycle is necessary if the population is ever expected to be brought under control.
Time for TX legislators to put their money where there mouths are. It is estimated that there is more than 50 million dollars of damages annually attributed to feral hogs. Budget 10% of that annually for funding research and development for a solution.
A problem this big impacts every Texan in one way or another. Forget about $5 hog bounties. In this video they show people flying in a helicopter shooting some hogs. Lets just say they can kill 1000 hogs a day using this method. Total bounty would be $5000. How much does it cost to lease a helicopter? How about fueling the helicopter? How about travel to and from the location? Ammo? Paying the pilot? Paying the shooter? You see the problem? It costs a LOT more than $5 to kill a single hog.
    Novel challenges require novel solutions.
