    My understanding may be a bit off here. Another advantage of decoupling focus from the shutter button and using back-button focus is that the shutter button is also used for locking exposure? That way, one can re-compose and lock the exposure with the re-composition.

    Hi. I hope you still look at these comments sometimes..........useful video as I am trying out Back Button focussing. However, a question. What about the exposure metering? I notice you didnt half press the shutter button (I realise that with bbf it won't focus, but don't you need to still half press for the camera to work out the exposure?

  • @cliffterpher

    It's a no brainer IMO. If you have enough buttons why would you want to combine two functions onto the same button. You don't combine the brake and accelerator onto the same pedal. Not a perfect analogy but if anyone is in doubt - try it!

On my D7200 I have all settings as described and also shutter release button AE-L to off but every time I bbf in continous mode release and the recompose the shutter button focus square shows a new focal point and when viewed in LR the focus has been on the recomposed area. Please tell me what I am doing wrong or if it is a camera problem. I would so appreciate it. Thank yoou.

    • @SouthernExposure
      @SouthernExposure  3 роки тому +1

      AE lock works much like the focusing application, but for the exposure when using one of the semi-auto modes (Shutter priority, Aperture priority, auto iso). If you point the camera at a bright scene, use AE lock, then swing to a darker scene, the camera will hold the exposure from the brighter scene. Hope that makes sense.

    Hi!
    After selecting AE-L/AF-L button, you chose AF-ON. But there were 4 more options. Could you tell me what is the difference between "AF lock only" and "AF-ON"? I have been trying to figure that out for quite some time now.
    Thanks.

    • @SouthernExposure
      @SouthernExposure  3 роки тому

      Using AF-Lock is similar to using back button focus. The difference is, you would still half press the shutter button to acquire focus, but if you want to recompose the shot without refocusing, you hold down the AF Lock (back) button. That forces the camera to hold the focus it has until the button is released.
