Loved the whole process - very clean and well thought out presentation. Highlighting the code segments while you verbally discussed them - very nice. So many folks make their presentations way too long. Your's is very well done. Two thumbs up.
Sixteen dude. Unless you have to work already, or are killing yourself by studyibg (which you shouldn't do) and not living your life a little bit, you should have a LOT of time to do everything. I wish I had 16 again (25 now), so much free time, omg so good.
Would making a pitboy interest you as a project? I assume it's similar to this but you'd be able to use a bigger battery etc to fill up the pitboy housing
+Tinkernut, your videos are great. I've following them for two years now, and everything from the content to the editing is just perfect. I also really enjoy the background music you use for your videos!
You should convert an old dumbphone into a smartphone! Using the old phone case and even the keyboard and navigation buttons. Cant wait to see a 3310 with bluetooth and even mp3 support lol
Is the Arduino 3.3v or 5v? Because, 3.7 volts from the battery can not fully power a 5v one, and it can damage the 3.3v one! I've been designing my own SmartWatch for a couple of months now, and choosing the battery has always been a pain for me. I have considered to use CR2025s instead of Li-Po, but they wouldn't give enough juice, and also are unfortunately not rechargeable. I also don't want to use a step-up DC to DC module to convert 3.7v to 5v, it would be very inefficient to do so.
You could have put the battery as part of the band. Then ran the wire to the watch. This would make your design smaller. Paint it black or whatever you want to match with band.
man, you are cool, i love your work and i'd love to see you on your next video "How to make a 3d printer" and this time to be not from old cd rom, but from real NEMA motors and staff like that.
hey buddy!! I am a great follower of yours..I have watched all your videos those are awesome....I always wanted to make my own smart watch after seeing your video finally I made one like you...So thank you very for these videos on smart watch ... You said in this video that you will make menus and simple games in this smart watch...So please make a video on it.....I want to put an alarm function; simple games; menus ; reminders etc..... So please plz plz make a video on it....It would be very helpful for me.... I want to make a complete smart watch having all functions..... Hope you reply soon.
I can work on the basics, but I'm using a PCD8544 LCD which is for Nokia 5510/3310. Also, while you said you aren't very fond of SMD soldering, I think using bigger pads can solve many problems.
can't stop wondering if there's a way to slave an old phone to a smartphone? I'm often working with paint, chemicals, glues, dirty stuff. If I could keep my smartphone nearby and use the old rugged flip phone as a smartwatch as is (it's a Tundra or Barrage or something that has survived several feet of water, paint buckets, drops from 2nd floor). Can think of lots of uses for slaving one phone to another. Is this worth considering? And yes, I do use bluetooth headphones, doesn't help for texts though.
2:32 The bluetooth module that you choosed has the ability to send the code to the Arduino and program it wirelessly. That's what I've used in my project, at least. It's very irritating to connect the Arduino with WIRES to program them!
You could use an ESP module instead of an arduino and then you have wifi. The ESP is arduino compatible. I don't know if you could program it using its wifi though. I only read about it.
+kedwa30 +1, But sadly, it's one of the problems with the ESP. I can think of a way or two to make it work, but it still lacks Arduino's famous bootloader. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend Wi-Fi particulary for this project. The watch couldn't operate directly with the phone if the phone is connected to internet (unless ESP connects to the same router which will be headache). Most wearable smart gadgets already work with bluetooth, and leave room for Wi-Fi so it can be used in more important tasks (or more bandwidth hungry, like file transferring). My personal choice would be low power Bluetooth compatible, like Bluetooth v4.0 or BLE. There are several modules available and ready to use as we speak, like TAH.io and BLEduino.cc which looks really promising. The BLE specs were designed with continuous usage at mind, something which is a necessity for an Smart Watch project in my opinion.

Are you like a specialist in these kinda stuff or an electronic engineer ? I mean srsly i'm kinda mindblown with what you come up with. anyways awesome playlist bro, i'd love to watch more of these videos :-)
Thanks for the compliment! I probably should've gone into engineering, but I went into Management Information Systems instead. I was into coding and databases back then.

It was smart to watch this video.
Ok. Now I get it. It took me 12 seconds. but now i get it.
i get it xd
get out
its *time* to stop. (i tried)
Nishka Arora But on the other hand, maybe you could try another pun, come on! tic toc!
that turned out to be an awesome looking device... and you just motivated me to make one for myself.... I'll post a video when I'm done. 😃
That would be sweet! Good luck!
At last, the Apple watch has a decent competitor.
Lol
rekt :D
ahaahaahahaha
The Moto 360 2nd Generation destroys the Apple Watch any day lol

make a tinkernut version of google glass
That would be awesome
And super difficult too. But maybe it could be possible?
YES
Ordered a Nokia 1100.. I really want to try this and configure the watch with a few more things. Defiantly motivated thanks to you :)
Your channel is amazing! Love the awesome videos you always share. keep up the great work!
You are insanely amazing man. Your projects inspire me to get back to tinkering with stuff again, I miss those times.
me too, but I'm sixteen so no again

Great Engineering and Passion!
Wow! What a mind job!
Happy to see this project finished!! Cool series of videos. Thanks!
Now, make a smartphone from an old cell phone.
😂 😂 😂
+Qasim Mustafa Ali It's a reference to Tinkernut's mistake, but it would be fun to see 😃
DziugasJ Agree

Make a old phone from my old phone
this project is very cool.. pretty impressive innovation..
Also just desolder the arduino power LED and Bluetooth LED. It will save a bit of space and a bit of power.
I love this project and your Channel
Hi Tinkernut! I really enjoy your videos and they inspire me quite a lot! Keep up with the content! One day Hopefully I'll do some of your projects!
was waiting for this third part.
Marvelous ! You're a genius, all your videos are awesome!
You're a great maker!
Tinkernut i've been your biggest fun of all, since everything you make it possible anything that i searched you have a tutorials ahah.
Best channel on UA-cam.
awesome project
I really enjoyed that.
now that the new ESP32 is out , you can make one with that, eliminate the arduino and gain wifi+BT.
Thank You for the re-purpose inspiration.
Awesome dude, definitely gonna give this one a go, thanks
Have you considered making it free-form built into the case?
I love that intro when you talk to the phone :D
Waiting Soo Much For This Part...
Really impressive job. I share your same 3 principles.
This is fantastic !
Awesome series
wonderful series and i love the way you present the videos.. keep the good work going
You are a GENIUS !
you are the new developer of nokia 2016, your ideas are very good :D (Y). Regards from Mexico (sorry for my bad english :( :p)
best UA-cam channel I have subbed to in a long time
Would making a pitboy interest you as a project? I assume it's similar to this but you'd be able to use a bigger battery etc to fill up the pitboy housing
I'll definitely try at some point!
You mean pip boy?
+Tinkernut we can haz pipboy? Rly?! F(ck yah bro!
Yesss auto-correct isn't fallout savvy it seems
I want to try this with just a color LCD instead, what would the difference be code wise?
I would like to see you printing PCBs and making a single board smartwatch.
If I ever update this project, I'll definitely do that. I wanted to do it for this one, but ran out of time.
just awesome!
Awesome!! Can you explain how to do a drone using a raspberry? Thanks.
Great work again
+Tinkernut, your videos are great. I've following them for two years now, and everything from the content to the editing is just perfect. I also really enjoy the background music you use for your videos!

JulianSauco making real smart watch
nice videos tink u really make awesome stuff and thanks for ur time
Good simple technique. Could you rebuild and reupload it using no tapes, and a wrist band?
And, could you turn an old nokia cellphone to a smartwatch?
wow dude..this is so cool! awesome project
Good work. Totally beard!
You just helped me build a smartwatch
Where (generally speaking) did you go to find the schematics of the phone?
Is the Arduino 3.3v or 5v? Because, 3.7 volts from the battery can not fully power a 5v one, and it can damage the 3.3v one!

Do you like my robot? *A Giant Robot walks up to Tinkernut*
I'm trying to think of a nice way to say "Ew Pepe" but I can't.
it would be awesome if I could make some sort of pip boy like smart wach
Could you please make a series on Android Studio tutorials for beginners?
A portable mini computer would be fun to make
Try making google glass next!
this makes me appreciate my iphone se a whole lot more
Good stuff.
hears a good idea how to fix a rairo that frequently goes to stack
hi please consider designing a PCB. It will shrink it much more
Considered it, but didn't have enough time/resources to fabricate one.
+Tinkernut can we fly a drone again?
please put this in the comment show

ideas to repurpose a old crt tv is what I would like to watch..! thank you..
Even re-purposing a old game console would do..thank you again
there are flexible batteries that can be put into the wristband
Can you make a series of making a cell phone (which can call and text) from scratch?
tricopter or quadcopter or color screen smartwatch project?

Last time i was this early, Marvel was good
Can I use a color screen from my Nokia C5-00? Can we use fingerprints sensor from laptop unlock the home's door?
Nice work !
p.s. your links on this video are gone - as in not there... (did you forget to put them ?)
Congrats 🎊🎉

please build a compact night vision glasses set
When this nice little watch will be available on amazon?
Who made it?
Where did you get the battery and the charging module???

Can you play minesweeper at 60 fps on it?
Can this project be done by a beginner?
you are a genius¡¡¡
great job can you do a show on TFT screens for the raspberry pi I have no luck with them I can't get them to work
a lot of times you have to use a custom Raspberry Pi build for them to work
I did and use adafruit, waveshare, can't get the drivers to work.
Creative ideea!!
like!!
What 3D printer did you use?
awesome sir!I'm Ur fan...I appreciate Ur work
congratulations
Hey the reason i watched your video was to gain more knowledge on how lcd screens work, now with that said i really wanted to reuse an android screen from a phone that is out of service but the screen is in - tack
How would I connect a LCD screen to a raspberry pi?
Wait, you soldered the Lithium cell directly to the Arduino? No voltage regulation whatsoever? I thought Lithium cells have voltages from 2,7V-4,2V?
No, i didn't solder the lithium cell directly to the Arduino. I soldered it to the charging board, which also serves as a regulator/surge protector. I then soldered the Arduino to the outputs of the charging board.
hey bro,
can u do something with the old tablets, i actually wanted to make a dual monitor for my netbook
thanks in advance
If your tablets are still working, there should be a software solution or an app for that. If not, you should be able to use the screen with other electronics to make some USB monitors out of them. Do a search for "can I use my tablet as a second monitor" and you will find what you need.
Can u please make tutorials about making a program/software
Is it possible to have speakers imported and able to "say" customised sounds?
Yes. Ben Heck did an episode in which he made a board game with customized sounds. I think he used an arduino. What's kewl is you can program it to alter sound, so for example your mom calls and you put it on speaker phone through the smartwatch and you don't want people overhearing to know who it is, so then you can press a button and it will change the voice by several octaves. Whatever you want. Make a caller sound like a Borg or whatever.
