My comment is Larry Taylor will be in my heart till I die. Saw Canned Heat and will always remember that bobbing curly headed bassist, keeping up with The Owl, Sunflower,Fito, and the Big Bear. Music in the sixties unmatched for feeling and creativity. Thank you for the sweet sorrowful tribute.
Most if not all of the Rock Icons from the 60s are in their Golden Years . And unfortunately with that the losses will only continue to mount . Larry will be missed . R.I.P. Bro .
R.I.P. "The Mole" , Canned Heat was always one of my favorite bands . I would fall asleep on hot summer nights (no air-con) listening to their Cookbook cassette with one ear jack. On the Road Again was one of my favorites because " my dear mother left me when I was quite young" , (4), If you have ten minutes to spare , listen to " Fried Hockey Boogie" off of the Cookbook album . These dudes could boogie ! R.I.P. to all , miss you guys !
💔💔 my heart is broken , we had a great time in California ‼️ Donors pass by Tuckeee , Rest in eternal peace My Long Departed dear friends Thanks 4 the wonderful memories ♦️‼️🙏 🙏
Larry Taylor frequented the typical Blues functions held around Los Angeles, just kind of bopping around. I was happy to talk to him on several occasions. The last time I saw him play was at Malainey's Bar and Grill in Long Beach, CA, July 2015. In addition to his nonpareil bass playing, on that occasion, he layed down some superb slide guitar on a Les Paul. He and Fito swung sooo hard that day. I'm not much of a Neil Young fan, but the guy stated in his book "Waging Heavy Peace": "The bass player, Larry Taylor, was crazy good, holding down a huge groove." Pg. 190. Larry was also a terrific Upright player. While he was an active upright cat, though, the guy killed it with the likes of Hollywood Fats, JJ Cale, Tom Waits, and Canned Heat. Check out some of the UA-cam performances of those acts, featuring Mr. Taylor. As far as I'm concerned he was one of the 10 best "Blues" players. The guy lived a full artistic life to the age of 77. I propose a toast to a life well lived, and one in which he brought great joy to many.
@richardtharris I am 56 ,been a canned heat fan since i was 10 , when i heard Dangerous Dave down my street blaring the Woodstock album out his windows . I saw Larry ,Fito, Harvey + gtr. plyr in 2012 and 2015 on east coast in Canada . But i was just thinking that Billy Talbot , Neils Bassest in Crazy Horse had a similar sound as Larry , one of the few , and after your Neil quote i wanted to comment And Yes I will be having a Big Cheers ,with the Heat on , to Larry !
Canned Heat was the very first Concert I ever went to in Ocean City Maryland early seventies, Going to the Country,Rest in Peace Larry Taylor,Earth is sending Love up. August 2019
His best work may have been on the 1969 album 'Hallelujah'. Always loved his walking on 'Get Off My Back'. Big bottom end that shook the walls in my room when I was a kid. RIP Brother 😢
Larry played a few last shows only a week or so before he died. He seemed to have been getting over the last round of chemo. But in reality it had not stopped the spread of the disease. I had the good fortune of getting to know him in that time. He had a tremendous talent and I was humbled by hearing him play. He told me road story's of his life and was a really funny character. As with all artists he could be tuff and sometime hard at times as well as kind but he was a no BS kinda guy. One of his close friends and also a talented bass player Richard Reed (the claw) was filling in while he was recuperating from treatment and will be continuing with the band with other great long time talents still keeping it boogying. They are definitely a band to go see. Larry will be missed by many. Condolences to his family and band mates.
Monterey Pop -- Canned Heat, Jefferson Airplane , Otis , Jimi, and Janis . Irreplaceable classics of our time . Such musicianship . I'll always remember Mr. Taylor -- so passionate about the music -- bobbing up and down in time with the beat . Loved to watch those old films from the 60's. Canned Heat was one of our favorites because of their enthusiasm .
RIP Larry Taylor i will never forget seeing him live 2nd row seats and watching him play the bass and checking out his solos and going home so motivated and learned them note for note he had such a tonal feel he was so good God bless him!!
Like David Brown, the bassist in Santana seen at Woodstock, Larry Taylor seemed also to hold the band together. You can see David Brown at Woodstock going from player to player as they were soloing, like a combination of a conductor and a coach, not to mention the strong dependable heartbeat. Larry Taylor also seemed the stable foundation of Canned Heat, providing an anchor or foundation for ther exploratons
So sad they were a great band all left us just one remains this bands music will live forever always like to watch Larry you just can't help nodding along with him r.i.p canned heat.
Already not that same great band when Harvey Mandel replaced Henry Vestine@Woodstock '69, & certainly not after Alan died, '70. Next 11yrs they're essentially a cover band, w/Bob singing Alan's songs. After Bob died, they became a joke band, w/Fito singing Alan & Bob's songs, Ugh!
From 1976 through 1980 Larry Taylor played bass for arguably the greatest post modern blues band, the Hollywood Fats Band. Shortly before he passed he told me playing in this band ( my band as well ) was one of his crowning lifetime musical achievements. He also played bass for Kim Wilsons All Stars for quite a few years. This band was another great or straight ahead classic blues band and was another band he was proud of working with. Yet neither of these bands are mentioned but pretty much consumed most music working time for 15 years. Why is that ? Because neither band had much of anything to do with pop music and popular culture.
One of the Most Strongest ,consistent Power Bass players since he started playing in the early sixties , from one of the Coolest Bands , Both of whom were Groundbreakers . He Certainly Made a name for himself . Thank You for the Music You Made Us . , Mole ,. R. I. P. I Wont Forget to Boogie !
Interesting stuff. The Blind Wilson dude was considered a blues/musical genius. As for Harvey Mandel he was a guitarist ahead of his time. Now for a useless factoid; either Rock Scene or Cream magazine in 1973 or 1974, before KISS had released their debut album, featured a photo of Gene Simmons with the moniker of Marvey Handel. I thought that was his name until I bought the record in 1974. Call me crazy, but all true. Love the content, and as always have a great day!
Mike Perlowin, an original member of Canned Heat, passed away last week, July 2021. He had gone blind in one eye, had severe type 2 diabetes, and multiple other ailments. He was posting on Facebook right up till the end. He died of heart failure. He was a great exponent of the pedal steel guitar, and one of the few to play classical music on the instrument. I was honored to be able to call him a friend.
Bob Hite would have been 78 in 8 more days. How tragic he was surrounded by people who were more concerned with protecting themselves than saving his life that fateful night.
Bob himself should've been more concerned w/his own life. He did stuff like this all the time. 78, (now 80)? Please. He cheated death for 13yrs;no way would he make 13 more. When you casually risk your life on a regular basis, your so-called friends end up treating it like a joke.
the MOLE..Tom waits used him on tracks for studio too, not sure about live gigs guy was a bass monster..Henry vestine was in the orig mother's of invention but left pre freakout LP release to go w canned heat I believe late 65...guys rocked ..drugs n music days...
He's in some live Waits clips, but not in others from the same era (early 80's) - not sure what the deal was. I've been seeking some Mole stuff for a tribute I wanna do tonight on the radio...
What can you say.All the greats are checking out. Canned Heat had a unique sound. They made my life better. Rip Larry.
Love Canned Heat. Just heard their Woodstock set on the new box set. What a band! RIP Larry "The Mole" Taylor.
Bend Your Knees and Bow Your Heads!!!!!! Rest In Peace Larry Taylor! Canned Heat that was a BADASS band!!!!!
He played at Monterey, he played at Woodstock. For that alone, he gets a hearty "well done" from me. Rest easy.
RIP Larry Taylor. I hope you're up there breaking bread with Alan, Bob, and Henry.....
Great contribution to R&R.
God Bless you Mole- You did us proud.
Thats sad. One of the best American bass players, specially creative when he played with John Mayall
Larry was also the younger brother of Ventures drummer Mel Taylor. Both had some serious chops as musicians.
Most if not all of the Rock Icons from the 60s are in their Golden Years . And unfortunately with that the losses will only continue to mount . Larry will be missed . R.I.P. Bro .
Man, his bass lines were so prevalent on all their stuff. RIP Mole.
Just saw him playing with Canned Heat in late June near Chicago--Great Show!!

Larry is a HUGE inspiration for me. He was an amazing Bassist and he actually played guitar as well in his later years. RIP Larry "the Mole" Taylor
An Excellent Full-Bodied Bass Player (MUSICIAN) Larry Taylor RIP
We have lost so many talented people in the last 3 years bless you all greatly missed!!!
A terrific musician with my favourite band of all time. Canned Heat....
Thanks for putting this up. Didn't realize how much Mr. Taylor had gotten around in his lifetime.
He stole the show with his head banging. Hell of a bass guitar player too.
Canned Heat is so underrated
my band opened for Canned Heat in the Late 80's. Larry and Fito were the coolest. Good times.
Very touching tribute. You did him proud. Mahalo.
RIP brother thanks for the music and the memories!

RIP BROTHER! One of the Greats, KINGS OF THE BOOGIE! Tell Blind Owl & Bob the Bear to get ready to boogie again!!! You'll be missed Larry.......
saw Larry with John Mayall in Seattle's Eagles Auditorium. No drummer, HUGE pressure on the bassman. Larry handled it like the great talent he was.

Great band... great bassist!!!... r.i.p. the mole!.
Almost exactly 50 years later after Woodstock. R. I. P. Larry

He lived in Van Nuys, CA

Soon the '60s and '70s will be erased by time. Better go see and hear, who you can while you can.
RIP Seen him with Mayall at the Fillmore east Oct. 1970.
