I stand by America when she flipped her sh*t for Marlee, and at the same time stand by Maxon for doing what was in his power to not let Marlee and Carter die. The two can coexist right?
America getting angry over what happened to Marlee is one of the only times where her being angry at Maxon is justified lol EDIT: but of course I do also agree that Maxon didn’t really have a choice
@Fantastic Beck honestly, rereading the novel reminded me that America's anger/standoffishness were really unwarranted and unkind at times, but this is the exception
The most unhinged part of this book was America doing a last minute placard presentation on abolishing the fascistic system of oppression propping up the very people she is doing the presentation for. Like imagine the lackluster sharpie drawing and three bullet points on that thing. And people were like 😮 this girl is a GeNIuS
I was so pissed off at the love triangle reading this, not because of how pointless it was (well, not JUST that) but because there are actual stakes and consequences here!!! Like, you know full well that having relations with someone other than the prince is basically illegal. You literally just saw ur bestie get publicly beaten and demoted to the lowest caste of society, yet you STILL decide to risk your life and rank by dicking around WITH A DUDE YOU ARENT EVEN THAT INTO?!!?!!?!! Sorry, that shit had younger me heated bc how you gonna risk everything over a second male lead? NO cute little secret date is worth _those_ consequences. How hard is it to wait just a couple weeks? Again, it's not like he's the love of her life, cuz even when she's in full delulu mode, i can tell she's not really that into him and she knows it even though she lies to herself. She ain't even _trying_ to be subtle. She talks so much about her family yet is willing to risk it all on Aspen. Baffling. Embarrassing. Stupid.

Throw back to when I thought Maxon was dead and America chose Aspen for like half a year, because when the third book came out, it wasn't translated yet, but a bilingual friend sent me some pages from the book in english, the part after the last rebel attack. and well, reading comprehension was.. Not my cup of tea
What a huge coincidence I was cleaning out my childhood closet and found my entire collection of this book series!! I absolutely devoured these books reading each one in like a night!
I remember reading this series recently when I got Covid and I'm someone who hates most romance stories because of love triangles where the outcome is obvious. Every plot point ended up more stupid than the last but I just couldn't put it down because I wanted to know how much bullshit they could stuff into this thing before the finale. Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't read The One! The end of this series was especially chaotic and I can't wait until you cover it because the author killing off the parents for plot convenience AND Celeste just as she got her redemption arc is so insane.
@@megdragon5191 it wasn’t personally my favorite because it removed America’s agency in the conflict with the king. I think it would’ve been more satisfying to see her rebel and succeed verses someone else eliminating the problem for her. But I understand if people like it!

Getting to relive this mess was a treat. I remember reading these books on a summer vacation and every time there was some new event or task I’d think “UGH OKAY how’s America gonna mess this one up”. She was a bit of an infuriating protagonist lol, but Maxon really was SUCH an appealing love interest. Ultimate trashy post-apocalypse YA era boy.
Read the ones about their kid!!! I love the way Maxon and America love each other in the moments they aren't screwing it up in their series but in the next set about their daughter, there isn't a will she won't she about the relationship but rather her main struggle is about protecting the cou try and will she make room for love while serving her country. The love is so much a win in the end. It moved my heart twice as much as America's books.
I remember reading this series with the rest of my canon at summer camp in middle school, literally the book that bonded all of us together. This little story means so much to me 😭😭
i hate love triangles but i love this book series because it's not even a love triangle because you KNOW Maxon is the choice from the SECOND he's introduced
I started the books involving A&M's daughter and I never finished them. They were a bit jarring because they're trying to get us to care about these new characters, but also still progressing drama with the OLD characters. I's just way too much to still have YA drama happening to literally everyone. The books just felt like I was standing on a mile high stack of rugs and having them pulled out from under me over and over. Eventually it's not shocking or even startling anymore, you just want to jump off the pile.
I’m still waiting for them to make this into a series and make it the best nostalgic tv show i’ve ever seen. I need them to make it as clichè and as over the top as possible and i will Eat That Shit UP

I loooove this series. However, the sequel series about America and Maxon's daughter is only worth a read if you're willing to face the same annoying back-and-forth bs that America and Maxon went through as well but just in princess form. Their daughter is quite callous
This series and I have (in my opinion) a very funny history together. It all startet when I was searching for some Zutara fanfiction, and I found this really long one and was like: cool, I’m gonna devour this in a week. So I did. Some time passes, I forget about it. Then I see The Selection trilogy pop up everywhere I look so I decide to read it. After I started reading it seemed suspiciously familiar. Lo and behold it was almost exactly like that Zutara fanfic I read. And while I might have enjoyed the books normally, the fanfic was better and I was left disappointed. I mean, Katara was a badass waterbender who got to fight!!! Unfortunately I don’t remember what it was called or where I read it, but it was very fun :)

America’s behavior is annoying but to be fair, this is how I’d expect a teen to behave when dealing with one of her first romances
SO happy you listened to your bestie :,) I watched pt.1 yesterday after seeing it on my recommended for a few days and it reminded me of how my I loved the series in middle school. I almost bought the second book because I was to impatient to wait for a part two BUT you blessed us today❤😗🫶🏾
Still HIGHLY recommend books 2 and 3!! 1 is slow but necessary 2 is a bop and 3 is a FEVER DREAM
Throw back to when I thought Maxon was dead and America chose Aspen for like half a year, because when the third book came out, it wasn't translated yet, but a bilingual friend sent me some pages from the book in english, the part after the last rebel attack. and well, reading comprehension was.. Not my cup of tea
I am obsessed with this little series. Cant wait for more YA book recaps.
your recaps are giving me life as someone who was obsessed with this trilogy as a teen. loved maxon so much i named my dog after him 😭
omg I found your channel yesterday and now I’m hooked girl😭😭
Oh my god I can’t believe I forgot about that😭
It's what the people wanted lol
@@megdragon5191 it wasn’t personally my favorite because it removed America’s agency in the conflict with the king. I think it would’ve been more satisfying to see her rebel and succeed verses someone else eliminating the problem for her. But I understand if people like it!
your recap of the first book made me start rereading the whole series 😭 its so chaotic that its good 😭 thanks for finishing up the original series!
I watched your first one yesterday and I'm SO happy u posted today omg what a fun surprise lol ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for the 2nd part!! This book series sounds hilarious, but I am certain 70% of that is just the awesome energy you bring! I am never going to read the books, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit to looking for more youtube summaries of the sequel after watching your previous video. So glad you made this! Thank you for feeding my crazy need of quirky YA book recaps!😂
I've never read the series but that climax was so intense through your filter! Incredible. Thank you for this ❤
Highly highly highly recommend reading them anyway theres so much more tea that due to xy or z she just alludes to or briefly mentions that are so chaotic reading them through
Getting to relive this mess was a treat. I remember reading these books on a summer vacation and every time there was some new event or task I’d think “UGH OKAY how’s America gonna mess this one up”. She was a bit of an infuriating protagonist lol, but Maxon really was SUCH an appealing love interest. Ultimate trashy post-apocalypse YA era boy.
girl thank you for delivering this absolutely rollercoster story in such a cool way, felt like listening to my bestie rant and i loved it
Read the ones about their kid!!!
This little story means so much to me 😭😭
keeper of the lost cities and land of stories were my favorite books when I was younger. I’d love to see you do a breakdown on those if you want
Girl, PLEASE MAKE MORE!!! This childhood guilty pleasure content recap is giving me life
obsessed with the way you recap it’s like you’re spilling fictional tea
i hate love triangles but i love this book series because it's not even a love triangle because you KNOW Maxon is the choice from the SECOND he's introduced
PART 3 PLSSS
ITS BEEN THREE HOURS SIR CALM DOWN
Isn't the story finished?
@@frenchgirl5878 theres one more book
@@sunnyisfictional two more actually. Eadlyn might be even more chaotic
I need them to make it as clichè and as over the top as possible and i will Eat That Shit UP
Anytime I hear America’s full name, I think about the Taylor Swift lyric “she told me I looked like an American Singer”. Haha
I literally can’t wait for this to have a movie/tv adaptation. Because it’ll be a hot mess and I’m here for it. Book 2 made me so mad
the ones about her daughter are actually so good! highly recommend
im so obsessed with this unhinged recap, you have no idea. if you've read Allie Condie's Matched series or Lauren Oliver's Delirium series, PLEASE consider doing recaps of those?
I don’t care how cringe it is, Maxon’s “break my heart” line still gets me man 🥹
Fr
THANK YOU FOR DOING A PART 2 i loved seeing you talk about the first book. you should do more of these, your storytelling style x YA novels satisfies some very specific part of my brain
25:38 is ABSOLUTELY ICONIC I had never heard of this series until today but this line I've been familiar with since the dawn of time I swearrrrr
I appreciate so much you summarizing this, I never as a teen but I been young me would had enjoy the drama, current me enjoy hearing the drama without all the extra fluff
Lol! Girl this series drove me crazy but I couldn’t NOT finish it 😩. I love that you’re recapping. This is gold 😂
*I hated what happened to Marlee but that low key should’ve happened to America too. Because she was doing practically the same thing! 😭
girl you HAVE to make a video or two on the sequels oml they’re even more unhinged 💀
ma'am, ma'am, thank you so much! i just found the unaired pilot of a 2013 series, in which William Mosely plays Aspen and watched that and it was so so so bad but it did remind me of this series and then of course i wanted to read the books again but like without losing hours of my life so this was perfect, thank you so much. So highly entertaining and funny, you are so so so right!!!
Thank you for the recap. I was curious about the book but not enough to read it lol.
I have always loved Maxim his literally the only sane person in this series, but unfortunately, their daughter took after America😭😭
I’ve been wanting to revisit this series but these videos were way better than reading them again thank you!
YAY! You did another! dude i was reading this last book at like 3am on the floor of my cousins room, rocking back and forth like a maniac, screaming into a pillow. This made me want to read the books again and relive that experience.
thank you for this series. i’m glad someone was reading these so I didn’t have to. i would always pass on these at the library for some reason, but it’s fun to watch your retelling of it
i was so invested in this series in middle school, like i had all the books, i had the novellas, i had the goddamn coloring book. it was equally as fun to watch this and think back to the books like "that really happened, huh."
Your recapping of these books is so iconic. Like I will forever say these books are my favourite, so these videos just make me so happy :)
YESSSS thank you. I’ve never read the selection but I was so disappointed when part 1 ended and I realized the video was only posted a few days ago.
25:38 what a cardan greenbriar moment LMAO “break my heart it was only ever yours to break!” ok man 😭
book 2 made me wanna tear my hair out, back when i read it as a kid and even more so when i re-read as an adult xd
I remember wanting to love this series so much when I was younger but even as a kid the Bachelor thing with Maxon dating and making out with multiple girls just gave me the ultimate ick
thinking about it. This trilogy was where my thrist for drama started
this eattsssss i had to listen to the full whole audiobook series cuz ur retelling was SO AMAZING
i vividly remember being so gagged when aspen and america embraced after the sleepover broooooo i literally threw my book LMFAOOOO
YESSSS ITS BACK!!!!! Will I ever read these books? No. Do I love the way Amanda disects a chaotic drama? Always
I love this series, i love the ridicoulosness of it, and i love unhinged recaps of things i like where people point out the cringy but honestly funny bits. Do the ruby red series, it’s also a very short trilogy but SO GOOD
i remember LOVING the selection in middle school and your recaps are so good they have me sO tempted to reread lmaoooo
even hearing you give a briefing of america's actions makes me so mad 😭😭 resurfacing middle school rage
I've literally never heard of these books or the plot so I couldn't work out why these videos had been suggested... Till the miraculous image flashed up and I said out loud... "Oh.... That's why."
I enjoyed this loads BTW, thanks for the break down, I might grab the books and have a read to fully enjoy ❤
THIS COULD NOT HAVE BEEN PERFECT TIMING FOR MY DINNER THANK YOU
